We wouldn't need so many pedestrian bridges if traffic lights worked, traffic lights were placed at appropriate junctions and Nigerians knew how to stop for pedestrians at zebra crossings 2 Likes 1 Share |

I'm not a fan of pastorpreneurs But if people stopped giving them money, they would seek other employment. So I blame the gullible followers that would sow more and work less. |

Baba gaan siddan! It's just now you found your voice abi? After Fayose had made all the noise to the point that we were thinking he was running for a third term, now you want to start talking. First of all, go and learn how to be a politician and tell Fayose to go and learn how to be a political godfather. When Tinubu was selling us Fashola, he would talk a little but give Fashola centre stage. Same thing as when he sold us Ambode. That's how patrons work, instead of taking centre stage themselves then being surprised that nobody knows who they're supporting. 2 Likes |

Romance / Re: 'Women Should Stop Getting Married' - Married Lady Advises Single Ladies by boringnigerian: 1:57am On Jul 05, 2018 |
Ah, Nigerians. Never getting context before jumping to outrage! Number one, the lady said her mind. If you agree, is in ya pockate. If you don't, knack ya head on the grand! I agree with her, more or less - marriage in Nigeria is not exactly skewed in favour of women. Not that men only gets benefits either but in the event of a marriage failing, the lady is more likely to walk away more scarred than the man, having been labelled a bad wife by a society that's never looks for a balanced view. Also (though thank goodness this is changing), marriage in Nigeria has been set up in a way to keep a woman dependent on her husband. If the marriage falls apart, the man walks away with his money, his property and all - the kids too, if he is interested. On the other hand, the woman gets nothing or worse, she might be left with nothing, kids to take care of and societal stigma. It's much easier for Nigerian men to remarry too than Nigerian ladies. I feel marriages in Nigeria will get stronger when both parties approach it as equal partners - no heads, no tails; just equals. Equal financial contribution, equal emotional support, equal say in family decisions. People like to list their mothers as examples of how the current system works, forgetting that - 1) It's probably not the system, it's just that your father is a good man too and treats his wife as an equal partner 2) When things aren't going okay, what mother calls her kids and tells them what their father has done. Most times they just swallow it and put up a façade for the kids and you guys come out oblivious to the facts till either the cracks begin to show or the man dies. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Of course, Nigerians would run to the rescue of their pastors with words like "If you don't want to pay tithe, stay at home. They are not forcing you to pay." Well, I don't know if any of you has heard of psychological duress - putting pressure on someone without having to use physical force. Or what do you call words like "If you don't pay your tithes, you won't make heaven" or "Paying tithes is your password to accessing God's blessings". Creating fear in people's minds so they pay without question and still defend you on top. Sure, pastors are not the government but most of our Daddy G.Os of big churches and Imams wield enormous influence over people in government and can actually influence policy. Or at the very least, when our leaders aren't doing something right, our religious leaders should not be afraid to call them out and tell them the truth. But instead they would keep mum so the don't lose their high profile customers. So yes, people calling out rich Nigerian pastors have a very good point and it's sad that Nigerians would rather close their eyes so they don't see it. 4 Likes |

That looks like a lot of responsibilities for one person. Everything you just mentioned are usually given to a team/department, not one person. If you'll do it alone, then 200k is small, especially if you are still going to outsource some of the jobs. 6 Likes |

azpekuliar: Interesting read. It appears most of his failings were human rights violations and wanting to perpetuate himself in power. To be fair, asides a few executions listed, Abacha doesn't seem to have been worse than most of our politicians today - in a fair few cases, even better. It seems those who bore the brunt of his human rights abuses were political opponents and human rights activists unlike today were all these people are suffering and ordinary citizens are suffering too. 1 Like |

You know, I've always wanted to know why people thought Abacha was a bad person. I was still pretty young at the time of his death and I remember walking home from school when the news broke in my area that he was dead. I do sometimes ask - why did the public think he was a bad person? Did he institute anti-people policies? Did he engage in some sort of genocide or encourage xenophobia? Did he leave the country worse than he met it? The questions are endless because I remember slot people said Abacha was a bad man but never said what their reason was for calling him that. Also, I have heard that Abacha was a bad man a lot....but rarely heard that he was a bad leader. I would really like to read more detailed accounts of what he was as a person and what his administration was like 1 Like |

If I'm reading correctly, the state government asked them to leave, it didn't repossess their land or property, yh? Well, they could either sell that property to get money to buy another property at Ojota (which would be cheaper), or hold on to their property and lease it out or use it for some other business. Why are people here asking for free land? If you ask me, it's a good move. Goodness knows the traffic along Jibowu/Funsho Williams Avenue is bad enough without adding those busses to it. 7 Likes 1 Share |
