MyOgaFromHR, I meant to say was no significant colonial power like the UK.
Your argument therefore is:
Because the UK colonised a lot of places, the UK must now accept people to jump into inflatable boats and come to the UK? Is that it?

You colonised us. It is now your responsibility to let us into your country illegally on boats. And if you say no, or put a stop to the illegal boat crossing, then you are racists.

Is that your point?

Why the complaints, didnt GB colonised India, Pakistan and Bangladesh? Germany that never colonised any country is accommodating more foreigners of different immigration status including asylum seekers than the UK does.
The Problem with UK stems from this elitistic and aristrocastic system.
This system is systematically crumbling the society by breeding juveniles of poor or total lack of parenthood. It is just natural that the locals are becoming xenophobic because you See increasing numbers of Locals turning miscreants , many more are living on social benefits while the foreigners seem to be progressing,
The solution therefore is to let anybody to Jump into a boat, come into the UK and live happily ever after.

Is that it?

And if the UK says no. We need to stop the nonsense then… The UK is racist right?

A racist policy. If a Ukrainian came by boat from France, would they send the Ukrainian to Rwanda? Why is it just black and brown people they send to Rwanda?!

I and many immigrants in the UK are economic migrants. The only difference between us and the refugees crossing the channel is simply sheer luck. We were lucky to come in via the boat of university migration, and we were lucky to have the funds to pay tuition fees, visa etc.

If a book was written about the sheer hypocrisy of a small minority of black and brown people speaking/acting against black and brown refugees escaping their countries to seek a better life in the UK, that book will be a best seller.
I really doubt if a Ukrainian fleeing Putin’s bombs will run away from Mariupol, get on a coach to Poland or Hungary. Then get on trains through other safe countries. Arrive France. Then pay smugglers thousands of £££ to hop into a dinghy boat and cross the channel.
In any case, there is no evidence to show that a Ukrainian who is smuggled in illegally, arrives on a boat via the channel will it be on The Road to Kigali.

I once shared a flat with a couple of Caucasians in London. Our flat was raided one early morning. Two of my flat mates ( including 2 others who had been living with them - I didn’t know those ones sef) where whisked away. To cut short story long, they were deported for being illegal immigrants.

I guess my point is, stop all this talk about Racism. Every country in the world (including Black and Brown countries) have border policies.

Ukrainians fleeing war are mostly Children, Women and the Elderly. Black & Brown people fleeing ‘wars’ and arriving in inflatable boats are almost exclusively Young Men and Pseudo-Children - Virile young men in late twenties/early 30s who arrive and claim to be 16.

The reason for the denial was that the information the person filled in on the visa application form is different from the answers given at the border when interviewed.

But the document didn't mention any ban, only mention that the visit visa was cancelled. Can the person contact the home office to know if there is a ban? This would guide the person in future applications
For example: while filling the forms, ‘mama wrote’ that she was going to the UK for holidays, to rest, visit places and spend some time with the (new) grandchildren and have some fun with them.

At port of entry, mama said she was coming because her daughter just gave birth to baby number two, and the burden is huge so she is coming to be taking care of the children while the parents are at work…..

Something like that right?

Good day all,

Please for someone that came to the UK on a visit visa and was returned back to Nigeria from the entry border at the airport with the visit visa cancelled, does this mean a ban for the person? If yes, how many years?

The document given to the person at the airport does not mention anything on the ban, just want to check if anyone has experience with such a thing

Thank you
…the document must have mentioned EGG-ZAKLY the reason for refusal of entry.

When the person is completing a visa application next time there will be a question thus:

Have you ever been denied entry into the UK at the port of entry?
If No. good for you.

If yes……
When were you denied?
What was the reason?

And the ECO will then make a decision on whether or not the person deserves a second chance.

with the situation of things i rushed out of the country due to the nature of my recruitment for my job so i couldn't do the necessary waka as it relates to introducing my girlfriend to my extended family and then me to hers . i am on tier 2. i want to ask if there is a way she can join up on dependent visa? pending when we can gather enough to get married .weve been together for 3 years.
Your Biggest issue is that you have confused MARRIAGE with WEDDING CEREMONY.
You do not need ‘enough money’ to marry her.
If her parents (and village elders) can allow her to ‘Wa-Jo-Ko’ with her to the UK pending ‘WEDDING’ then it means they will have absolutely no problems with you MARRYING her.

My 1 Kobo:
Go to marriage registry in your state. Marry her at the registry. All you need is blessings of her parents and yours. Take a couple of photos with both parents - and as many friends that your small money can afford.
Done! Marriage don set.

What you need for UK application is MARRIAGE not WEDDING certificate.

And yes, I am speaking from Experience.

To the people who have constantly made my post a credit issue when I clearly stated multiple times that it wasn’t the case. I’ve ordered the same laptop from Curry’s (without opening an account with them) using the PayPal pay in 3 option and the order was approved, I’ve been debited and the order has been dispatched. Please let the credit talk rest, that was not my issue with JL. And I did not "apply for credit" with PayPal, it’s a service open to everyone without any application on select stores.
We can rest now.
Curry’s sold to you Despite/Inspite of being Black, & African.
Great!
Turns out John Lewis did not refuse to sell due to your black ness and African ness. Yes?
Not everything is about race.

Meanwhile, Any Buy Now Pay Later is actually a ‘credit issue’.

Lots of folks here previously mentioned that they got rejected for credit cards, it wasn’t given any ‘ulterior’ motive.

Someone jejely came here and said ‘I have been in the uk less than 7 months, and I got a credit card from Barclays’.

Fair game.

The same Someone was rejected by John Lewis for what was essentially a credit application.

First, Someone now played the race card , insinuating they were rejected because they were black and African.

Same Someone now wants to conflate that occurrence with GDPR and the viewing of their LinkedIn profile.

For those of us saying Someone has a good case. Question: on what basis? On discrimination based on race? Or on GDPR breach?

It will take less than 1 second for any judge worth their salt to thrash that case.

I should be airbound for UK by tomorrow evening
I have weighed my luggage and the total aside hand luggage is 76kg whereas I am expected to carry 23kg x 2. (46kg)
now I have an excess of about 30kg.
I am not willing to drop my foodstuff or cloth .
how can I pay or go about it.
Turkish airline says 160GBP.
thats much.

GURUS is there any way around this.
someone told me booking for extra luggage online is cheaper. but that 160GBP dosent seem to me like 'cheap'
£168 = NGN 131,040.00

Are the contents of the bag greater than 131,040.00 naira? If yes then £168 is cheap.
If no, then kuku ma stick to your 23kg x 2.
As someone said, if you have packed plenty of 'funny' clothes, just return them. 2 months down the line in the UK, you will realize you don't need them.

You’re welcome. I haven’t been here for up to 7 months and I got pre approved for a Barclays credit card and my account with them is just 5 months old. Just walk into your bank and see if it’s possible.
I would suggest caution. And this is not only from My experience, but from that of many others too.
If by ‘pre approved’ you meant that Barclays Bank popped you a letter in the mail box, telling you to apply. That is not pre approval. Your application for credit card will still be subjected to credit checks. And if you do not have a credit file/credit history. You could be denied.

Like I said her before, a credit card may be important, but having a credit file is important-ter.

Let me give you an example.
Miss A arrived the UK in 2020. She picked up a free Giffgaff SIM card from a shop. She strictly uses PAYG. She lives in an All Bills inclusive flat share hence her name is not on any utilities. She isn’t registered to vote. She hasn’t registered as a resident on the Council website.

Mrs B arrives in January 2022. She had her name on utilities bill, registered to vote after 2 days of arrival in the UK. Went to her local branch of HSBC and opened a bank account. She took a 12-month SIM Only contract with O2 mobile for £7 per month. She now applied for a provisional drivers licence, and by end of February, she has a Council tax account with the council where she lives.

Between Miss A (who is now a UK ‘ancestor’ and Mrs B who is a ‘JJC’ if both apply for a credit card. There is a much, much higher chance of Mrs B getting accepted as compared to Miss A.

I don talk my own - from my experience, and that if others.

I made a post a couple of pages back. I mentioned something about being in the system.
To your ‘naked’ eyes, no checks were made. But that is not so. The OP may not have submitted any documents to the Credit card company directly. The OP however MUST have had a credit file, with address history, credit history and etc.
This is not Nigeria where you do biometrics for MTN SIM, you do biometrics for Glo SIM, you do biometrics for Etisalat SIM, you do biometrics for Econet SIM. you do biometrics for Pantami’s NIN, you do biometrics for voters card. You do biometrics for BVN. You do biometrics for passport. Yet, none of these is connected. No data sharing. No central server. No nothing.

So… banish the thought.

MOST rents are paid via Direct Debit. Or with sort code and account number. Except if your landlord is so techie that they accept credit card payment.

On Building Credit in the UK

A fundamental mistake I have seen a lot of folks here make is the assumption that a Credit Card is 'a must' to improve credit score.
I dare say this is not necessarily true. Whereas having a credit card is a 'plus' it is not the 'koko' thing.

People should note that there is something called: CREDIT FILE. This is more important than a credit card.
You can have a fantastic (impeccable) credit score - Excellent without a single credit CARD.

Things to do:
1. Get your name/records into the 'system'. Apply for a provisional driving license (even if you don't intend to drive). It is a fantastic means of identification.

2. Discard that Lebara or Lycamobile PAYG SIM which you have heard so much about. Get the cheapest SIM-Only contract (O2, Three, EE, Virgin, Vodafone etc...). These can be as cheap as £5 per month (with unlimited calls and SMS, and up to 3GB data).

3. If you are a Nigerian, you are qualified to vote in UK Elections. Register to vote.

4. It is a great idea to have at least 1 utility bill in your name (water or electricity or gas).

5. If you are so hard-pressed on getting a 'DEBT card' (aka ~Credit Card), do not despise the days of little beginnings. See if you can get a Store card. For example, my first 'credit' card was Argos store card. I went to buy £12 worth of hair clipper. They lady at the till suggested that I can buy now and pay later. with zero fees. That was how Argos gave me my first credit card - loaded with £200. As of today, I have a combined credit limit of £32,000 (across 4 cards).

Bottom line: Get your details into the system. So that when "credit checks" are performed during your credit card application, they will find your name, linked to an address.

This thread has really bn very helpful, I had to create an account.
We (a family of 4) moved to UK last September thru student route, We have a thriving business back home, so my husband is off and on UK.
Please I will like to ask if there is a way I can get a tier 2 sponsor job
Thanks
Most (legit) Tier-2 jobs do not come ‘at-a-cost’ (as per Nigeria parlance).

The way to get a tier-2 job is through applying for the job. You should also be able to prove that you have the brains, the ability & capacity to perform.

I would advice that you totally delete that ‘at a cost’ mindset from your brain.

It’s actually quite straightforward. The question isn’t if you are under immigration control. You are past that point, because you are exempt from immigration control. You don’t need a right of abode to have access to public funds.

The question is can people who are exempt from immigration control have access to public fund and the answer is yes. If you have no access to public fund then it would state it in your vignettes clearly.
Please, kindly do not say this as if you are sure.
You do not know the basis for the exemption (in this case).

Before you let someone confuse you on this forum, I hope you know that there is an aspect of this whole thing that it's only you that knows? So far on this forum, it's only you that knows the precise reason why you have that exemption vignette. Again, I will say it. Although I am tempted to ask, but I will not ask you which of the categories is your exemption based on.
