Solumtoya: I wanted to bring up this point but thought it might be a little complex to explain via text here.
The person earning high in the South that buys the expensive property isn't foolish: he is able to build equity much faster which he can use to buy cheaper properties to let up North. So that statement yesterday about earning less and doing better in the North all because housing is more affordable was just a little funny to me.
As for Wales, it's not an edge case o. I know so many people who live in Wales and do a 90-min train ride or a 3-hour National Express trip to London on days they go to the office. 3 hours no reach Lagos traffic na. I am interested in that £8 one Biko.. |

erico2k2: Vast majority of people who live in them cities you just mention live there but work in London as they commute via train, driving is a no no for them. If you are professional in a certain discipline or trade then you can live anywhere and still earn as if you live in London, if not London it is. take for example if you are from Niger republic and want to come to Nigeria for work, it would be Lagos, Abuja and PHC isnt it? Imagine a tiler or mason who leaves Benin Republic or Togo and migrates to Nigeria, looking for greener pastures. Such a person now goes to Omu-Ekiti or Damasak or Kazaure or Oturkpo or Oji River to live, simply because houses in those places are a fraction of Lagos, Abuja or PHC prices… Well, they can get big house first cheap. But where dem wan see jobs? |

Lexusgs430: This is the beginning of attempting to catch a monkey, on a tree ..........😛😂
Loads of other cities available........ Explore wider options .......... We can't all reside in London......😜😭 Oga Lexus… This your thought process is like asking people to migrate to Dutse (Jigawa State) or Nguru (Yobe state) or Zungeru (Kebbi State) or Monguno (Borno state) or Oye-Ekiti (Ekiti State) or Abatete (Anambra State) or Nembe (Bayelsa State) etc…. In ALL the places I mentioned above, they can get a 5 bed bungalow for less than the price of a 1/2 bed face-me-I-face-you in Abuja or Lagos. Question is: Are there jobs? What (really) is the point of moving away from London to Hull or Sunderland or Middlesbrough or Newcastle or Durham or etc… and there are no jobs there? You buy/rent cheaply, but there are no jobs. What’s the point? |

BorisJohnson: On Building Credit in the UK
A fundamental mistake I have seen a lot of folks here make is the assumption that a Credit Card is 'a must' to improve credit score. I dare say this is not necessarily true. Whereas having a credit card is a 'plus' it is not the 'koko' thing.
People should note that there is something called: CREDIT FILE. This is more important than a credit card. You can have a fantastic (impeccable) credit score - Excellent without a single credit CARD.
Things to do: 1. Get your name/records into the 'system'. Apply for a provisional driving license (even if you don't intend to drive). It is a fantastic means of identification.
2. Discard that Lebara or Lycamobile PAYG SIM which you have heard so much about. Get the cheapest SIM-Only contract (O2, Three, EE, Virgin, Vodafone etc...). These can be as cheap as £5 per month (with unlimited calls and SMS, and up to 3GB data).
3. If you are a Nigerian, you are qualified to vote in UK Elections. Register to vote.
4. It is a great idea to have at least 1 utility bill in your name (water or electricity or gas).
5. If you are so hard-pressed on getting a 'DEBT card' (aka ~Credit Card), do not despise the days of little beginnings. See if you can get a Store card. For example, my first 'credit' card was Argos store card. I went to buy £12 worth of hair clipper. They lady at the till suggested that I can buy now and pay later. with zero fees. That was how Argos gave me my first credit card - loaded with £200. As of today, I have a combined credit limit of £32,000 (across 4 cards).
Bottom line: Get your details into the system. So that when "credit checks" are performed during your credit card application, they will find your name, linked to an address. @Cigie, I wrote this sometimes back. You may find it useful. |

Joyfuljoyful: Hello everyone,
We live in a 2 bed Apartment and we got a mail saying they wanted to inspect the apartment. When the rep from the agency came he took pictures of the walls saying that we repainted the walls and they were not evenly painted and that we werent supposed to touch the walls. I felt bad that we painted. I specifically didnt hang anything on the walls. He also mentioned that the carpet was not as it was when we moved in. (8mnts ago).
Now we got a mail from them saying we didnt keep the apartment clean enough and asking us to start looking for another place. We did call their office the next day and were told to move and that our deposits will be used for the repainting and a new carpet. There were no stains on them. I usually clean any stains out immediately. But she said we bleached the carpet which we didnt. I argued that surely it shouldnt be all the deposits but the lady said except we dont want their references for when we get another apartment. She also mentioned that its best we move now so they can give us a good reference. And that if we dont move they would give us a quit notice to leave in 2 months. I'm so sad as I just had a baby and moving can be stressful.
I want to know if there's anything we can do as tenants. Maybe any rights we have? We are on tier 4 and we don't want to rock the boat. I really dont know what we can do at this time. Can we argue this with them or we should just move? I know we are at fault about the painting but everything else was intact and they even mentioned that we are low maintenance and that our rents comes in even days before the due date. I just need clarifications pls.
Thank you. Did you have a contract at move-in? Did you read the contract? Did you sign a contract? Do you have a copy of the contract? Have you read the contract again? |

Meanwhile you can create an account with hmrc to get your CTR and you will see your earnings and tax paid to date plus your tax code. It is not difficult. Please new immgrants should stop taking nonsense from employers just because they sponsored them. You are assuming that ‘New immigrants’ dey pure. Imagine if there was some ‘dealings’ between CoS issuer and ‘new applicant’. Don’t assume that ‘new immigrant’ is holy and Employer is rogue. If you read OP’s initial message, there was somewhere that appears to suggest some kurukere movement before they got the CoS. If sh*t hit ceiling, worst case, licence will be revoked. Care home /agency closed. ‘New Immigrant’ will now have to get a new sponsor, or Home office will send them a letter. Trust me, ‘New immigrant’ would not like the content of Home office letter. If I was you, I would just request for a new BRP. I am 1000000% sure whether or not there is a new number, it will not matter. But… no points deducted, no fixed penalty, no nothing. His sins were all forgiven, just as sins in Nigeria are forgiven once you join the APC (no be me talk am ohh na APC chairman Oshiomhole talk am that year) Meogom: So I got a response from the police and was given one of three options 1) Attend a Speed awareness course 2) Fixed penalty charge 3) Going to magistrate court Abeg which option is the best o. From my little research, looks like option 1 is the best as there will be no points deduction. But I thought I should still sample the opinion of the elders in the house. Thanks |

Hello Chreze, Just out of curiosity. You said there are ‘not-so-expensive’ tests to check the genotype of the foetus in-utero. Brilliant! This check is done post fertilisation and conception, yes? What would have happened in your own case if the results showed SS? The pregnancy will be terminated. Yes? No? Let’s assume yes. What happens if the second pregnancy is SS too? Repeat termination? And the 3rd and the fourth etc until an AA or AS comes along? You machine the emotional trauma, and the cost. Chreze: Bolded is very true, I can’t deny that. Have an in law who has 4kids and the last is the SS. Very expensive to manage.
The AA part is to also mention that an AS and AS can get married and give birth to an AA. Most of us know it’s possible but we don’t always hear about it. There is this general believe that when AS couple, it will always result in an SS.
There are resources that are not all that expensive, like having the sample test before baby development. We can’t keep making it look like it’s not possible.
There are no definitive percentage of the total number of AA in Africa and Asia (since these cases are common in those region). So what happens to the likes of us that are AS, we won’t get married if we don’t get an AA partner?
We have to live beyond these fear and work with researches to live a happier life. Ask yourself why I don’t want to go above my 1child or why I don’t really have issues adopting a child if I can’t have one? Life has to go on.
Just a friendly question, at what point of dating do we ask the genotype and blood group question? @Lexusgs430 please help with this question too. And anyone that has an answer. |

If you wait till more than 6months before updating your full licence, then the price could reduce. (I might not be totally right) What insurance will you be on for those 6 ‘extra’ months? |

Viruses: Does anyone have an idea on this?
If I take out insurance on provisional licence, will the price change (go up) if I up get my full license few months later and update my record.
Currently I'm getting about £800 if I fill the form with my provisional licence, but if I change the license to full (other details remain the same) the price goes up to about £1,500. I'm yet to take my driving test. YES. Your insurance premium goes UP (not down) when you move from Provisional to Full Licence. The rations makes a lot of sense. As a provisional licence holder, you were less at risk of accidents. As a new full licence holder, the chances of accident becomes higher. |

Dear Nigerian in the UK (Student Visa Chapter),
Working long hours in the UK, earning ££.
Selling £1 to NGN900 at Aboki Forex rates.
Applying to Nigerian bank to pay school fees via Form-A at CBN rate of £1 = NGN520 sounds like good business sense, where you are able to somehow nearly double your money without MMM or any Ponzi scheme.
It is a High Risk, ‘high’ reward venture.
Problem arises when Form A now takes 6-9 months to process…. That’s where stories that touch can crop up.
