EducationMass Failure In 2021 JAMB : 961,387 Candidates Score Below 200 by BornorBang(op):
… 168,613 out of 1.13m scored above 200

Update from

The 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, recorded poor performance by the candidates, as only 168, 613 scored above 200 out of the available 400 marks.

A perusal of the document issued by the Board after its Policy Meeting in Abuja early in the week, a copy of which was made available to on Thursday, showed that the performance was a far cry from the 404, 740 that scored over 200 out of the 1.9 million that sat for the examination in 2020.

In 2020, a total of 2.11 million applicants sought admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria, with over 300,000 direct entry applicants who needed not to write UTME.

This year, 1, 428,208 applied and over 300,000 were also direct entry candidates.

The breakdown of the performance of candidates in 2021, as given by JAMB, showed that 168, 613 scored 200 marks and above, 64,323 scored 190-199, and 90, 688 scored between 180 and 189 marks

Others are 117,970 scoring between 170 and 179 marks, 149,421 scoring between 160 and 169 marks.

For the range of 140 to 159 marks, 369,023 candidates fell into that category, while 170,816 scored between 130 and 139 marks.

With JAMB now allowing institutions to fix their own cut-off points, other things being equal, majority of those that may be admitted could fall within the range of those who scored 140 marks and above as there are about 600,000 spaces to be filled.

The cut-off points for 2021 admission are yet to be fully decided by the schools, reports.

Even the admission spaces for year 2020 have not been fully filled as only 551,553 out of the 600,000 spaces were filled as at August 27, this year.

Incidentally, for 2020, 4,948 candidates scored 300 and above and could still hot secure admission because of a number of factors.

Hard hit are candidates who applied to read medicine in various universities, as 1,085 candidates who scored over 300 marks last year were not admitted to read medicine, 4 not admitted for Law, 214 not admitted for Engineering, 92 for Sciences, 43 for Social Sciences, 13 for Administration and one for Arts.

Reasons why they could not secure admission included wrong subject combination, non-acceptance of offer, duplication of application, absence at post-UTME screening etc.

For the most subscribed university, the University of Ilorin, Kwara State had 72, 869 last year and 78, 466 this year, the Kaduna Polytechnic, Kaduna led at the Polytechnic level for two years and Babcock University, Ilisan Remo in Ogun State led at the level of private universities.

For 2021, Oyo State presented the highest number of candidates with 82,521, followed by Osun with 74, 234 and Ogun with 70,971.

Why do you think the failure rate was on the high side this year??

Update from

New Orleans, LA — Dr. Cynthia Kudji and her daughter, Dr. Jasmine Kudji, recently shared a very special moment when they became the first mother-daughter duo ever to graduate from medical school at the same time.

Not only that, they have “matched” at the same hospital to complete their first and second-year post-graduate training positions as doctors.
Cynthia has graduated from the University of Medicine and Health Sciences (UMHS) St. Kitts in Maine, and Jasmine who graduated from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Louisiana.

Now, the two of them have both matched at Louisiana State University, where Cynthia will study Family Medicine while Jasmine will pursue General Surgery.

They will start working at the same hospital system on July 1st.

Cynthia, who is a native of Ghana, came to the US with her family when she was 2-years old. She had always wanted to become a doctor, but she had to put her dream on hold when she got pregnant with Jasmine at the age of 23.

She eventually worked as a nurse for nearly 10 years. At one point, she had a family trip back to Ghana. There, an incident wherein she helped take care of a sick child inspired her to finally pursue being a doctor.

The mother and daughter are both excited that they are together as they face the next chapter of their careers and continue to purse their dreams.

“I always tell people we laugh together, we study together, we cry together,” Dr. Jasmine Kudji told . “I think medical school is one of those experiences that you don’t truly understand until you’re in it. Sometimes people struggle to find someone who relates to their struggles, so for that person to be my mom was extremely helpful.”

EducationJoseph Ugbene : See 65 Years Old Farmer Who Went Back To School by BornorBang(op): 6:34pm On Aug 30, 2021
Update from

A 65-year-old man, Joseph Ugbene, a native of Egede, in the Udi council area of Enugu State, has said he returned to school to acquire secondary education because his children laughed at him when he spoke English and mixed up his tenses.

Ugbene, who said he dropped out of school after the Nigeria-Biafra Civil War that ended in 1970, stated this during the graduation of the Adult Education Programme, Egede, which marked the completion of his Junior Secondary School education on Sunday.

The farmer noted that his dream to acquire basic education was shattered by the civil war.

He said, “I was in class one in secondary school when the civil war broke out and after the war, things changed. I had no means of going back to school because my father died.

“So, that was why I said I needed adult education to complete my secondary education and continue. I am now a father of seven children and I trained all of them. They are all educated.

“You see, before I started this adult education programme, when I spoke English my children would laugh because of my tenses. That also motivated me to go back to school.

“So, I must climb that level and I am determined to acquire that education. It is helping me a lot now because I can buy drugs and administer to birds, courtesy of what I learnt in school.”

The Proprietor and Executive Director, Better Life for Rural Dwellers, Mrs Bibian Agada, commended Ugbene and eight other graduates for their desire to learn.

Agada disclosed to that the adult education was set up in 2018 in response to the high level of illiteracy she observed among the people in Egede.

She said, “I wanted those who dropped out of school to complete their education free of charge.

“To achieve that, I bought all the recommended textbooks, exercise books and everything needed by the students and teachers, down to erasers and sharpeners. The initial response was great. Seventy-seven adults signed up for the programme.

“Some who thought that they would be paid to go to school were the first to drop out when all they got were books and materials for their study.

“Others dropped out because they were distracted at Ama-ukwu on their way to school, which is why we are seeking accommodation away from the market square.

“Another set that dropped out were those who could not sustain the rigour of going to school while providing for their respective families. A lot of the younger ones who did not respond to the programme questioned the need for education when they could not get jobs with it.”

She appealed to residents who were not educated to take advantage of the programme and learn for free.

Update from

No fewer than 14 pupils of Central Primary School Karabonde, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, are alleged to have been raped and defiled by one Alhaji Usman Galadima, a grade 2 teacher of the school.

The teacher who was said to have threatened to kill the pupils, should they ever reveal the despicable act, was summoned in July 2021 by the school headmaster after two of his victims reported the molestation.

According to the kids, the teacher had instructed them to be in school very early and he took advantage of their early arrival to sexually molest them. Some of the kids revealed that Galadima asked them to kiss him and play with his male member, while others said he raped them, gathers.

Galadima, however, denied the students' claims and maintained his innocence until a delegation sent by the traditional head of Karabonde, arrived at the school to complain that some girls from grades 2 and 3 of the school had told their parents that they were touched by the teacher.

The teacher finally confessed to having assaulted only one of the girls and eventually changed his statement multiple times, claiming he only abused two of the girls before later admitting to abusing 5 of them, after the council promised him leniency should he confess.

After the revelation, the girls were taken to the hospital where it was discovered that the teacher who molested them is HIV positive. A source whose relatives are among the abused pupils revealed that the families of the victims are worried the children may not get justice as it appears some elders in the community are trying to protect the accused.

Career10 Big Secrets To Making Straight A’s In Higher Institution by BornorBang(op): 1:47pm On Aug 29, 2021
Behind every successful student, is a laid down simple but strict rules. For some students, these rules are called SECRETS. I have gone through books, interview, videos and excerpts and concluded on these rules as the best and sure way to make straight A’s in higher institutions like Universities, Polytechnics, Colleges of Education, etc.

Before I list out the ten secrets, there are two important things I would like to share with you! Firstly, be aware that making parallel A’s in higher institution is POSSIBLE. Some students have done it! Why not you? Example of such students are, UNILAG ‘016 best graduating student with 5.0 CGPA, UNILAG ‘017 two best graduating students, Taiwo Bankole and Oyindamola Omotuyi with 5.0CGPA, UI ‘017 best graduating student Nkemelu who graduated with 7.0CGPA, to mention but few. 5.0CGPA and 7.0CGPA means these students, never got a grade below ‘A’ in their courses. They had parallel A’s from their first year to final year shocked shocked

And Secondly, always bear in mind that it also takes the Grace, Love and favour of God to excel in everything you do in life! Baba God is the “Boss of all Bosses”; do not ever forget to commit your dreams into his hands! He never fails.

Before we continue, take a deep breath, straight your legs because am about to help you smile on that your graduating day grin grin

Let’s start listing the secrets! Viz :

1. Change your Mindset :
This ranks my list because students usually get it all wrong when they just want to make first class. It is pertinent to mention that you ought not to read just for A or first class in examination. Let us face the truth, you’re in university to acquire knowledge, and be learned!

When you bear this in mind, you try to understand the concept of each course and not just cram your textbooks. Read as if you must defend your course in Real World. When you read to acquire knowledge, you will be forced to see parallel A’s in all your courses. It’s not magic, it’s reality!

2. Prior Study
Prior means “before/earlier”, merging Prior with Study, it means study before…
Yes! You have to study before each lecture. It mustn’t be a day before the lecture. Just make sure you literally prepare for each lecture. This will increase understanding of the topic and create a medium to understand problematic questions you encountered while reading.

Do not joke with this! I did and guess what… “In the first semester of my first year in University of Nigeria, I consciously ignored this point. I was like, “I will understand the course in lecture hall, LET ME ENJOY MY SLEEP JOR!”. Like you expected, I had poor grades. The next semester, I changed my philosophy, I studied before any lecture, and the magic worked! I made excellent grades and got featured on

3. Always Attend Lectures
As simple as this sounds, yet some students seems to underestimate the power of this point. In University of Nigeria, and some other schools, attendance to lectures has its own mark. Some schools will use the attendance list to admit students to the examination hall. This means if your name is not in the overall attendance list, you will not write the examination!

Now besides attending classes for the aforementioned reasons, in classes you will be opportune to ask problematic questions, answer problematic questions and most of all makes you appear responsible to your lecturer.

Since you have decided to always attend lectures, then I must advice you to stay in the first three sit in the class. This very helpful to facilitate the point!

I hope I am still communicating?? If YES, let me see your teeth…Thank you! Let’s continue…

4. Self Assurance :
Self assurance and self confidence works together. Believe you can break past record; believe you can also be among the best students. To be sincere with you, University courses are not just that easy! Some lecturers can be so threatening, some might even tell you guys in class that “You Just Can’t Make ‘A’ in this course”. The scaring part is when few students still believe they can still make ‘A’ in that course, after a test or quiz, they see 3/30 as their score. If you happened to be in this category of students, you need to reassure yourself you can do it! You need to believe in yourself! You have to be confident that you can still make that 70%. Oyindamola Omotuyi's story on , a 5.0CGPA graduate of UNILAG is a good example.

Just don’t get discouraged when you fail test/quiz.

5. Do Not Cheat Nature :
Don’t cheat nature?? How do I mean?? This probably should be your question. It’s all right; I will answer it right away! ….A little story… I had a friend in High School, during our early years, he always reads 10hours (7.00pm – 5.00am) per day. After reading, he takes just two hours sleep and most times do not eat till 12.30pm. When I approached him, he said he is doing FASTING/PRAYING. I tried to convince him to help himself, I used to be like…”My guy eat very well since you’re reading very well”, his response will be “Bros, don’t worry about me, My God can do all things, He is a God of impossibility…” You know what I did? I never talked to him about it again. Towards the end of the semester, he got ill and was admitted into Our general hospital. He barely wrote the exams he has been preparing for. Results came out and like I expected, he had poor result! It’s not that His philosophy about God is not true, but the point is HE WAS CHEATING NATURE… Some will say give to Ceaser what belongs to Ceaser and to God what belongs to Him.

If you’ve some church activities, cut down your reading hours, have some nice sleep. Sleep at least 5 - 6hours a day! Eat healthy foods and exercise your body!

Lest I forget to complete my story, the next session, I met that my friend and after sympathizing with him, I told him not to cheat nature. It worked perfectly for him.

6. Study in a Suitable location
Some students prefer reading in a cool environment while some others love reading with music playing at the background. Whichever, case you find yourself, take advantage of a good study location. Do not go to the library because your friend always reads in library.

7. Have Smart Friends :
I have come across students who always say “I people do not influence me, rather I influence people”. I understand this might appear true but do not be deceived because “the good are easily influenced”. You just have to get a friend that has same vision with you. When you guys share the same vision, you achieve same vision. Make friends that are smart, brilliant and intelligent.

8. How Many Hours to Read :
Many will advice you read 10 or six hours but this solely depends on personality. One might read 2hours and understand the concept while others needs more time. The necessary point should be, make sure you read prior to lectures. Revise the notes you made in lectures. Do not procrastinate it!

9. Do the Right Thing at the right time :
Oh yes! Don’t play with this guy! It can be very tempting and most time begs you to compromise him. Do not wait until the last minute before you do your assignments, tempapers, seminar, mini-project, projects e.t.c

10. Dream Big, Think Big :
Do not limit your vision to just being a good student, aspire to be the best student. Do not just limit yourself to having a good grade like B or C, aspire to smash A’s in all your papers and more importantly, do not just read to pass examination, read to understand the concept and for KNOWLEDGE!

That’s all! I hope this will be helpful! Best of luck in your academic pursuit.

Ways You Can Make Money On the Internet in Nigeria is a very useful for all youths in Nigeria seeking for channels to meet end needs. The unemployment rate in Nigeria is on the high side every year as more students graduate from tertiary institution annually.

Below is my list of the top Ways You Can Make Money On the Internet in Nigeria. Read Along!

1. Cryptocurrency : Cryptocurrency is still on the rise. Gradually, many businesses are accepting Cryptocurrency as a form of payment. You should consider investing in Cryptocurrency.

All you need is study and understand the market. Buy when it is low and sell when it is high. There are many ways you can make money with Cryptocurrency. If you got low capital, invest in minute coins like doge, shiba, Ada, ethereum, etc Buy Bitcoin only if your capital is high.

2. Affiliate marketing : It is all about recommending products to people online, if they buy through you, you get a commission. Just find an affiliate network & join, then pick products to promote. You can promote them on your Facebook, Instagram, any other social media or blog.

If you are the type of person that is good with conversation, or you’re good with marketing, you should seriously think about affiliate marketing. Imagine you promote a product that is worth N15,000 with a commission of 20%, Now you have about 5000 friends on Facebook, 5000 on Twitter, 5000 on Instagram, some via WhatsApp & other social media networks. You promote the product to them & about 1000 of them purchase through your link. That means your total sales will be N15, 000 X 1000 = N15 million. And your commission which is 20% will be N3M.

Take it or leave it, many people buy products online these days. You can key into it and make money via affiliate marketing. The most popular affiliate networks; Jumia Affiliate, and Konga Affiliate.

3. Tiktok, Instagram & YouTube videos : if you love making videos on your Phone or with a camera, you can make money uploading those videos on those platforms. It can make you rich and also popular. You can make videos about anything. You can talk about anything.

Just upload them to YouTube and share them across your social network. Build your brand. As you get views and traffic on your pages, you get money too. A lot of IG influencers, skit makers are millionaires today as a result of this.

4. Creating an online shop : It could be your WhatsApp status, Instagram page or any other platform. It is about buying and selling products online. You can create your own online store and sell products online. You could be the next richest person in your city.

I know people who use these platforms to sell hairs, clothes, shoes, lip glosses, social media accounts to mention a few.

Even if you don’t have capitals to store products, you can still do this business, you get pictures from online shops which got the products, add your amount to the initial price & promote the post if possible; once you get buyers, you order for it & sell.

The authorities of the Rivers State University, Nkpolu-Oroworokwo, Port Harcourt, has expelled a 300-level student, Suanu Wisdom Nwiyara, for the alleged murder of a final year student of the institution, Osundu Chimela.

Nwiyara, suspected to be a cultist, allegedly shot Osundu on August 19, 2021, while he was sitting in front of the Faculty of Management Sciences of the University.

The suspect, a 300-level Architectural Science student of same institution as the deceased, was arrested by the police while attempting to escape after allegedly killing Chimel, who allegedly had a gun hidden in his panties before he was shot.

RSU, in a statement signed by it’s Registrar, Dr. Sydney Enyinda told that the move to expel Nwiyaara was necessary as the institution has zero tolerance for cultism and all forms of violence, especially within its premises.

Meanwhile in the same university, an automated teller machine stationed at a branch of a new generation bank in the university has been allegedly broken into and emptied by unknown gunmen in the wee hours of Wednesday.

The robbers who, eyewitnesses alleged, were dressed in police uniform, stormed the campus at about 3:00am after ordering the school’s security guards to open the university’s main gate.

Proceeding to the motor park where the bank is situated, they tied up the bank’s security guard and some drivers sleepiníg in their mini buses.

gathered that the robbers went about their business unchallenged, completely emptied the contents of the ATM, and got away in one of the mini buses.
