Fortune Okudaye is a 24 year old lady who narrates to BBC how she used her dispatch riding business to pay her school fees while she was in Lagos. Fortune who is from Delta state said that the worst advice she has got from people was that she is too beautiful to be riding a bike under the hot sun in Lagos state. In her interview, she said they asked her to pick up prostitution instead. The lady came to Lagos in 2017 on the promise her father’s brother made to put her in school. According to the 24-year-old lady, the man said that she would have to pay him back. Fortune later braved it and went job hunting. The lady who has been riding bikes since she was 11 years old said that she went into the okada business because there were no well-paying jobs for her in the state. Fortune noted that the bike riding business is not for the faint-hearted. She revealed that the number of accidents she has had is enough for her to quit already. The lady who has been embarrassed on many occasions said she was once slapped by a female customer. Fortune could not retaliate because of the fear of a sack. The 24-year-old would have loved to further her education to HND level but cannot as most of her income now goes to her mother’s treatment who has cancer. Her story has attracted so many heart-felt reactions from Nigerian internet users. https:///24-yr-old-lady-rides-okada-to-pay-school-fees-shares-experience/

Update from So many secondary school leavers struggle every year to gain admission into universities through JAMB. Even after they make it through the Jamb strive, they still have to take internal screening exams by the university (POST-UTME). Here is a line of hope for every Student seeking to get admission into any University in Nigeria. I will give you alternatives to getting admission without writing JAMB. Let's go! 1. Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) Over the years, Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) has become one of the most reliable ways to gain admission into any Nigerian University without JAMB. If you are tired of writing JAMB multiple times, then JUPEB is one of the ways to gain admission. This program is a proven, approved, and certified 9-month program that is moderated by the University of Lagos. They also have different coordinating bodies across Nigeria. After you complete the JUPEB programme, you would be awarded a certificate. It is with this certificate that you can apply for direct entry in JUPEB affiliated universities for 200 level admission. Before you stand jumping up, please note that JUPEB is also a tough programme. This simply implies that if you want to do the programme, you should make up your mind that you will prepare well for the exam. If you don’t you might not gain admission. It is worth noting that with JUPEB you can actually gain admission into ANY course. That’s right absolutely ANY Course. But like we said above, you have to be ready to READ! 2. Pre-degree/Remedial Programmes This programme has different names (eg, pre-degree, remedial, basic science, UPAS, etc) depending on the school but the end product is usually to offer students admission into their school without having to write JAMB. Upon completion of the pre-degree programme, you would be offered admission into 100 level in your applying university. In the course of this, your O-level results must be complete and you have to be aware that not all the courses are accepted. The result of your Remedial predegree programme expires after one year. Also what noting, is that the pre-degree programme has a duration of 7-12 months and its certification is no substitute to a university degree. 3. IJMB - Interim Joint Admission Matriculation Board, IJMB Third on our list is the IJMB also known as the Interim Joint Admission Matriculation Board. Introduced by Ahmmadu Bello University (ABU) it was one of the few programmes that students could use to gain admission without jamb. At the birth of the IJMB, its primary aim was to help students in northern Nigeria to gain admission without JAMB. Today, the platform is available in universities across Nigeria. So, if you have lesser chances of getting admission into a Nigerian university via JAMB, then make IJMB a must-choose. You can learn more about IJMB on Siggy 4. The National Open University Of Nigeria (NOUN) This program was established in the regime of Olusegun Obasanjo to help Nigerians with advanced age to have university education. The National Open University awards degrees like every other University institution in Nigeria. If you are employed, and want advanced studies, you can apply for the National Open University without JAMB. Since its establishment, it has embraced over ten thousand Nigerian students. NOUN has campuses in almost all the major cities in Nigeria. In other to apply for the NOUN, you have to make an application via their online portal, and then pay the required fees. You would also be required to fill a form, where you would upload your O-level results. The NOUN is a good way to pursue admission without getting to write JAMB at all. 5. National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) A’level Another way to gain admission without JAMB into a Nigerian University is through the National Business and Technical Examinations Board, (NABTEB) A” Level program. Most students don’t actually know about this program, hence the few that knows it, usually gain admission. Like any other A’ Level examination, allows students to secure admission into 200 Level in the University through Direct Entry. The NABTEB Advanced Level programme runs for a period of two semesters, after which a successful NABTEB A’LEVEL student graduates into 200 level in the University through direct entry. All courses are available for NABTEB A’LEVEL programme. Candidates seeking admission into the NABTEB A’LEVEL programme must possess a minimum of 5 Credits in relevant o’level subjects from WAEC, NECO or NABTEB in not more than two sittings. Awaiting result can also apply for the NABTEB A’LEVEL programme. Lectures on NABTEB A’LEVEL programme are guided by the approved NABTEB A’LEVEL syllabus and the contents of the NABTEB A’LEVEL syllabus cover University 100 level syllabus and above, which must be taught within a period of two semesters. The entire NABTEB A’LEVEL examination process is moderated by the NABTEB A’LEVEL headquaters, Benin, together with JAMB-approved moderators at the approved NABTEB A’LEVEL accredited institutions. Unlike the JUPEB programme, NABTEB A’level programme is actually for just science students. Most Art Courses are not available. https:///5-alternatives-to-gaining-admission-into-a-university-without-jamb/

Update from The Taliban have ordered the exclusion of females from Afghanistan secondary schools as only boys and male teachers are expected to return to the classroom. Schoolgirls said they were devastated not to be returning. “Everything looks very dark,” one said. A Taliban spokesman said there were plans to open girls’ schools soon. But there are fears Afghanistan is returning to the harsh rule of the 1990s when a similar ban on girls’ schooling was in place. A statement issued ahead of Afghan schools reopening on Saturday said: “All male teachers and students should attend their educational institutions.” Secondary schools are usually for students aged between 13 and 18, and most are segregated. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid was later quoted by Afghanistan’s Bakhtar News Agency as saying that girls’ schools would open soon. He said officials were currently working on the “procedure” for this, and details including the division of teachers. But schoolgirls and their parents said prospects were bleak. “I am so worried about my future,” said one Afghan schoolgirl, who had hoped to be a lawyer. “Everything looks very dark. Every day I wake up and ask myself why I am alive? Should I stay at home and wait for someone to knock on the door and ask me to marry him? Is this the purpose of being a woman?” Her father said: “My mother was illiterate, and my father constantly bullied her and called her an idiot. I didn’t want my daughter to become like my mum.” Another schoolgirl, a 16-year-old from Kabul, said it was a “sorrowful day”. “I wanted to become a doctor! And that dream has vanished. I don’t think they would let us go back to school. Even if they open the high schools again, they don’t want women to become educated.” Earlier this week, Siggy reported that the Taliban announced that women would be allowed to study at universities, but they would not be able to do so alongside men and would face a new dress code. Some suggested the new rules would exclude women from education because the universities do not have the resources to provide separate classes. Barring girls from secondary schools would mean none would be able to go on to further education. https:///females-excluded-from-secondary-schools-as-afghanistan-schools-resumes/

Update from A video has surfaced online showing a Lancaster female student getting pinned down as the officer works to restrain her. The officer had slammed the girl to the ground just moments before, Siggy reports. The student was eventually detained and removed from the school by the officer. The student involved in the scuffle with the officer joined her mother, fellow students, activists and civil rights attorney Lisa Bloom Wednesday afternoon at a news conference outside the school. "What we have heard from the sheriff's department is that my client was a 'threat.' What was the 'threat'? We haven't been told specifically," Bloom said. Bloom says her client told her all she did was walk up to the school resource officer and question him why he was looking at her a certain way and if everything was OK. Soon after, Bloom says her client claims things quickly turned violent. Bloom says sheriff's officials told her foul language was used in the altercation and things escalated from there. "My client says she didn't use any foul language, it was her friend. At any rate, the foul language was not a threat," Bloom said. Bloom claims her client attempted to walk away from the officer despite his commands for her not to leave. "The sheriff's deputy says she was walking away from him and that's why he had to take her down. That is not a justification to take down a child. It is not a justification to take down an adult," Bloom said. The school district issued the following statement: "The District, in conjunction with the L.A. County Sheriff's Department, is reviewing the incident. The District and Sheriff Department have a shared commitment to ensure the safety of all our students at all our schools." Bloom says she's looking at all legal options for her client, including filing a civil suit against the district and the officer. "The only justification for physical violence, under the law, is if the officer or another person is being physically threatened with bodily injury or death," Bloom said. "A teenager simply walking away does not meet that criteria." https:///police-officer-body-slams-female-student-usa-community-protests-video/

Update from Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have stormed three hotels and arrested student and youth leaders in a security meeting in Enugu State. But officials of the Department of Security Services (DSS) in Enugu State averted what could have been a major protest against EFCC over the incident. The Nation reports EFCC operatives invaded a hotel off Ogui Road, Castle Majestic where leaders of Ohaneze Ndigbo Youth Wing, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Nigerian Youth Congress (NYC), Association of South East Town Union Youth wing (ASETU) and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) were holding a meeting over the current insecurity issues in the region. The youth leaders, numbering over 80 from across the Southeast region, were also lodged in the hotel when the officials of the anti-graft agency raided the venue, shooting sporadically and bursting into their rooms. The EFCC officials, eyewitnesses alleged, also manhandled, teargassed and marched the youths and all the hotel guests into seven waiting Coaster Buses, which drove them into the EFCC office in Enugu late Thursday night. Addressing journalists on the incident, Deputy President, National Youth Council of Nigeria, Comrade Innocent Nduanya, described the EFCC attacks as crude and unacceptable to the youths of the Southeast. He demanded a written apology from the commission within 48hours to Igbo youths and offset medical bills of injured members. He said “We were here having our meeting. Suddenly, some of our people came up, they went to ease themselves downstairs, they came up and told us that EFCC officials have arrested some of our guys. “When we came down to know what is actually happening, they began to threaten that they will shoot us and instantly they started shooting and spreading canisters us. “They couldn’t explain anything to us but only said that they were here on official duty. For me if they are acting on intelligence, there is no need for anybody to know that they are here. “If they have a suspect they should go direct to the person’s room and pick the person and not disrupting and attacking these youths that have come to show solidarity to what we are doing here today. “We have been here for today and it’s for the interest of Igbo people and the security of the security operatives. For long now there have been sit-at-home every Monday and the future of this country is in the hands of the youth and that is why we have gathered here and it is an embarrassment to us that EFCC will come here to disrupt us. It is not done in any part of this country”, he said. It was gathered by Siggy that as more youths were gathering for a protest match against the action of the EFCC, leadership of the DSS in Enugu State, invited them over to its office where they were discouraged from embarking on the match against the commission. But the EFCC described the raid of the hotel and two others in Monarch area and New Haven Extension in Enugu metropolis as a sting operation from which it arrested 16 suspected internet fraudsters. A statement by its Head Media and Publicity Wilson Uwujaren said the suspects were arrested following verified intelligence on their alleged involvement in internet-related fraud activities. “Part of the intelligence indicated that suspected internet fraudsters were operating from Castle Majestic Hotel, Enugu. Based on the intelligence, and weeks of surveillance, a search warrant was executed on the facility on Thursday September 16, 2021. “In the course of the operation, the operatives encountered a group that identified themselves as members of the National Association of Nigerian students, NANS and Ohaneze Ndi Igbo Youth wing. The leaders of the group duly identified their members and carried on with their activities. “But the target of the sting operation were arrested and brought to the Enugu Zonal Command for questioning. “Among the suspects arrested are: Agbo Paschal, Anthony Ogbu Uzochukwu, Ejiofor, Uchenna Ejiofor Chikora, Ezihe Victor, Nnaji Onyedikachi Christian, Eke Ike, Ogbodo Arinze, Ogbodo Ebube, Ogbu Chinedu, Ossai Chinedu and Udey Ifeanyi. “Some of the items recovered from them include one Lexus ES 350 car with plate number BLF 722 LD, one Yellow Fever travel documents, several laptops, mobile phones and other incriminating documents. “The suspects will be charged to court as soon as the investigation is concluded,” Uwujaren said. https:///efcc-storms-three-hotels-arrests-students-in-enugu/
