Health › Gynaecologist Warns Women Not To Remove Their Pubic Hair by BornorBang(op): 3:04pm On Aug 06, 2021 |
A gynaecologist has warned against waxing or shaving pubic hairs because it can cause “microscopic trauma” that can lead to infections.
Dr Jen Gunter, the author of The Vagina Bible, has urged women. While the purpose of pubic hair is somewhat of a mystery, going “au naturel” is necessary to protect the skin by acting as a barrier against the outside world.
Getting a Brazilian may also reduce sexual pleasure, with pubic hair being connected to nerve endings that might help arousal, Dr Gunter added.
Pubic hair “grooming” has almost become the norm, with many blaming the porn industry.
Scientists from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), asked more than 3,300 women about their downstairs grooming.
Of which, 83.8% claimed to wax, shave or epilate their pubic hair, with just 16.2% leaving it intact.
“Hygiene” was the most commonly reported reason (59%) for women removing their hair.
But Dr Gunter warns waxing, shaving or “sugaring” – mixing sugar, lemon juice and water to create a wax-like gel – may do more harm than good.
“You are causing microscopic trauma to the skin,” she told the BBC.
The gynaecologist added she sees women with cuts, grazes and even infections when hair removal goes awry.
“Pubic hair has a function, it is probably a mechanical barrier and protection for the skin,” she said.
“It may also have a role in sexual functioning because each pubic hair is attached to a nerve ending, that’s why it hurts to remove it.”
Why do we have pubic hair?
The role of pubic hair is not fully understood.
Most experts think it is involved in the release of pheromones, chemicals that trigger arousal.
Pheromones are thought to be “get trapped in pubic hair when glands release an odourless secretion on the skin that combines with bacteria decomposed by the secretion of (other) glands”, according to an expert from Columbia University in New York.
This produces a scent that varies from person-to-person.
Some studies suggest women are attracted to pheromones that differ significantly from their own because it suggests genetic diversity, the expert added.
Other theories as to pubic hair’s purpose include warmth or helping the vagina stay “clean”.
“Pubic hair prevents dirt and particles from entering the vagina,” the Columbian scientist reported.
Critics argue, however, if warmth was the reason, men would surely have more hair along their penis and around their scrotum.
The protection theory also falls short because men do not have similar cushioning around the opening of their urethra.
Humans are thought to have removed their hair as far back as prehistoric times.
“Tweezers” made of shells have even been found in ancient caves.
The Egyptians also reportedly associated body hair with uncleanliness.
Removing pubic hair may have some benefits, by protecting against body lice.
The tiny insects live on coarse human hair, like that found around the genitals, according to the NHS.
Pubic lice
Find out about pubic lice, including what they look like, how you get them, symptoms when to seek medical advice…
Body lice spread via skin-to-skin contact, usually sex.
As well as thriving on the genitals, the insects can also set up home on the armpits, legs, chest, abdomen, back, face, and even the eyebrows and eyelashes.
Basically, anywhere with hair, aside from the scalp.
These days, women are less likely to remove their pubic hair out of fear of lice.
“The increased prevalence of pornography that depicts bare Instruments, popular magazines and television are primary drivers of the trend in the United States,” the UCSF scientists wrote in the journal JAMA Dermatology.
In their study, 875 women (31.5%) claimed they groomed their pubic hair because they felt it “made their genitals more attractive”.
And 586 (21.1%) said it is their “partner’s preference”.
Asked when they would remove their pubic hair, most (55.6%) said before sex.
This was followed by before a holiday (45.7%) and to prepare for a “healthcare professional visit” (40%).
For those who still want to go hair-free “down there”, Dr Gunter urges them to use a clean razor and shave in the direction of the hair.
Going “against the grain” increases the risk of ingrown hairs, which can become infected.
And for those who go for a wax, ensure the technician does not “double-dip” the wooden sticks used.
This could spread bacteria between clients, Dr Gunter added. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2021/03/warning-dont-remove-your-pubic-hairs-gynaecologist-urges-women/amp/

Education › Babatunde Babajide: Even While Fasting, I Read A Minimum Of 8 Hours A Day by BornorBang(op): 10:06am On Aug 06, 2021 |
Twenty-one-year-old Babatunde Babajide, an Accounting graduate of Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) has set a record from 3.80 GPA in 100 level to 4.68 CGPA in his final exams and bagged First Class. In an interview with , he explained the secret of his success and how he overcame some challenges to bag First Class.
Give a brief background of yourself
My name is Babatunde Babajide Mercy. I am popularly addressed by the virtue of political and social nomenclature as, BBM (alphabetism of my name). I was born on February 23rd, 1998. I am an indigene of Ilora, Afijio Local Government of Oyo State and from a middle-class family, though my parents are not educated they have great zeal for academics and they ensure that their children are well educated. My father, Mr. Amos Babatunde is into tailoring and owns a small scale poultry farm. My mother, Mrs. Joke Babatunde is a hairstylist.
How did you write WAEC and UTME?
To the Glory of God, I have never written any exam twice, by implication, I made both WAEC / NECO and UTME at once withn in the range of B3-C6 in WAEC / NECO in 2014 and 231 in UTME in 2015. I did not write UTME in 2014 due to fear and financial unhealthiness. So I judiciously used the period in learning computer and engineering skills. Although I am not the type that usually read during my high school days God helped me. This testimony won’t be complete without talking about how I entered FUTA. I picked FUNAAB (Abeokuta) in 2015 UTME as my choice of institution to study Accounting and The Polytechnic Ibadan (TPI) as the second choice. Having passed UTME with 231, I read with all my strength for about 10hours in a day to study for the post-UTME but I had 45 percent. I was so sad and worried but decided to move on, trusting the process and getting ready for the next phase. In a nutshell, Poly Ibadan offered me admission and all of a sudden, I heard about the announcement of the sale of post-UTME form in FUTA and I applied with the money I was supposed to use to pay my acceptance fee in TPI and traveled to Akure. I had 74 percent in the post-UTME and was offered admission. It was actually God, out of about 22,000 candidates that sat for the exam, only 900 were selected.
Social life and politics on campus are two things that distract students, which one nearly affected you? Politics! A game of the wise. I served as the pioneer General Secretary of the Nigerian Universities Accounting Students’ Association (NUASA) for the 2016/2017 academic session led by Ibrahim Oluwanifemi. It was indeed a nice experience as I was exposed to leadership and communication skills. Serving as the scribe did not in any way affect or distract me, and to the glory of God, I had my first 5.00 GPA while serving in the office (200 level first semester). I have also served in various appointed offices for one post or the other. I also supported Comrade Ibrahim Oluwanifemi while he was contesting for the post of FUTASU president. And he won! About my social life, most of my friends do say I am not really social because I am always occupied with works and other offices, most especially, being the national president, Junior, and Intermediate, Royal Ambassadors of Nigeria of the Nigeria Baptist Convention.
What role did this four-man squad contribute to your success?
Garuba Yusuf Olatunji, Odeh Emmanuel Ikande and Yekini Usman Olawale… These guys are so wonderful, talented, diligent, brilliant and passionate about success in life. This set of people actually helped me in discovering myself. During our first year in school, we shared everything together. And I must say, if not for them and God, I might not have been able to achieve what I have today, most especially, Odeh Emmanuel Ikande, this guy challenged me in diverse ways. But I am so sad that we were unable to keep the squad till the end as there was a misunderstanding between us in 200 level second semester. Nevertheless, my utmost joy is that we all finished successfully and creditably. Odeh and Garuba also made a First Class while Yekini made a Second Class Upper. Kudos to you guys.
You were disheartened with a 3.80 GPA in your 100 level first semester exam, why?
I was so disheartened for some time is the fact that, firstly, I had the lowest result of 3.80, Yekini had 4.00, Odeh had 4.50 while Garuba had 4.55. Secondly, I had no Android phone during the period, so I couldn’t read some of the materials for the exam. Only Futarians can understand better how FUTA diversifies her teaching strategies and methodologies through the use of PDF and Slides and I had no cash than to have them printed. I was pained. And lastly, I hate being the least in anything I do and as a matter of fact, it is my all-round vision in life to “be the best in all that I do.”
So, at 200 level what did you do to boost your GPA?
I did not do anything special, it was just that God partnered with me, and made studying easy for me. Conveniently, I do read for a minimum of 8-10 hours a day without any difficulty, even while fasting. I used the library so well that it got to the extent that I became familiar with the library staff and was allowed to benefit from things that a normal student could not have access to. Colleagues in the department, faculty, and fellowship often address me as ‘Ilemobade’ or ‘Albert’. Also, I devised some reading plans for myself, I had a well structured, flexible and realistic timetable for reading and became more diligent in all my endeavours.
How did you cope with your professional exams and studies?
As a student who is ambidextrous and does not only read to pass but to also build myself, I was able to handle the two without one affecting the other. Also, I never attended any ICAN tutorial class as the two activities are interwoven, some things were being taught in class and also, new things that were being learned in ICAN were also useful in class. And to the glory of God, I wrote all my papers (ICAN) at once.
Aside, professional exams, what other challenges did you face during your studies?
I had other challenges during my studies, as there is no success story without some challenges. While going through the process, one of them is the finance aspect but many thanks to Adeleke Israel Olaoluwa, the best graduating student in my department and faculty, we hustled and ran some businesses together so as to get some cash and finance ourselves (e.g graphics design, computer engineering, project/data analysis, and others).
As a First Class graduate from a public university, can you compete with your counterparts in private universities?
Smiles, I think it won’t be ethical for me to be boasting about my strengths. I don’t need that. It’s not that I am the best, of course, no, I still have bosses. Perhaps, if such a situation occurs and I am to compete with other counterparts in private universities, I will. And I am so confident about myself that I will do my best to prove my worth and deliver well. I engaged in some inter-university debates during my undergraduate and they were memorable moments because my team and I proved that #WeAreFutarians. And Futarians are known for something, Resilience!
From a 3.80 GPA in 100 level to 4.68 CGPA, how did you make it?
I will not make the mistake of taking the glory by saying “I made it on my own”, he told . With the help of scholars like Iwuchukwu Margaret Bernadette (best female friend), Adeleke Israel Olaoluwa, Fadare Israel Mercy, Olatunji Timilehin and others, and most importantly and paramountly, by God, I made it. Although I carried out a huge part of the task by taking my time to study and make more research. I spent most of my time in the library (Albert Ilemobade Memorial Library) doing one thing or the other. I set minimum reading targets for myself, 8 hours a day, with an average of 10-12 hours and I once read for 16 hours (maximum so far) in a day. People often ask me how I was able to actualise this, I was actually inspired by the life of Dr. Ben Carson, who spent about 23 hours in the operation theater and I was of the opinion that if this man could create such time for something he likes doing, then I should try doing such as well https:///even-while-fasting-i-read-a-minimum-of-8hours-a-day-futa-first-class-graduate/

Education › I Would Have Graduated Today If Not For SARS – Final Year Student Cries Out by BornorBang(op): 9:14am On Aug 06, 2021 |
A final year student who hoped to be graduating with his course mates might have to spend some extra time in school after he missed his last exam. According to , he was arrested by operatives of the special anti-robbery squad, (SARS), a disbanded unit of the Nigeria Police Force, on Wednesday just as he was going for his final papers. A Twitter user identified as Harrison Mbamara shared the young man’s story on the micro-blogging social network. The student reportedly spent most part of the day in detention on August 4, unfortunately by the time he was released, the examination had already been concluded. In a silent protest over his pitiable situation, he explained on his T-Shirt the reason he is unable to graduate. He was meant to wear the shirt for his signing out session. On the shirt, he wrote; ”I would have graduated today, but State-CID said No!!. Boardman” On Wednesday, Harrison shared a photo of the final year student wearing the shirt and wrote; ”He is reported to have been taken away by SARS early this morning even as he was supposed to write his last paper today, Well he’s regained his freedom” https:///i-would-have-graduated-today-if-not-for-sars-final-year-student/

At least it's a relief to know that progressive changes are being made to insecurity in Kaduna and Borno. |
Education › Why We Stopped Negotiating With Kidnappers Of Students – FG by BornorBang(op): 7:02pm On Aug 05, 2021 |
The Minister of State for Education, Chief Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, who disclosed this to State House correspondents after the federal executive council (FEC) meeting, said the bandits used ransom money from to equip and rearm themselves.
The Federal Government has explained reasons why it stopped negotiations with kidnappers of students.
The minister was responding to a question on what the government was doing over the video that went viral where some of the kidnapped students in Kaduna State were being tortured by kidnappers.
The minister reassured Nigerians that efforts were being made to rescue the children.
According to him, negotiations had to stop because it’s been established that ransom payment was fueling and escalating insecurity in the country.
He said, “Truly speaking, it is disheartening anytime any of our students are taken at any point, I can assure you that the federal government is doing all that it can. We have held several meetings with our security personnel and that whole region.
“Insecurity at the school level, you may understand, stems from insecurity around the area. Before we had Chibok, there was Boko Haram in the area. It is the success of the military more or less, in incapacitating Boko Haram in the northeast, that led to some level of insurgents in the Northwest. And as bandits appeared they started striking randomly at some of our schools from Jengebe, Kangara. You know, everywhere. And the places where they’ve had to go, we’ve pursued them.
“But the containment policy of the military is actually in response to what we also did as the humanitarian element that surrounds it, because the way the military will engage bandits once they have our citizens will not be the same way they will engage them ordinarily. And therefore, they may not just go into the forest shooting at everything or everybody they see
“And that has enabled the bandits use some of our citizens as human shields.
“We are constrained to stop negotiations with bandits because we’ve seen that every time they get any payment, it leads to further escalation, because they reequip and they rearm and then they go back.
“Because if you notice what happened from the kidnap at the College of forestry, in Kaduna, this was prior to the kidnap at the Baptist College and at Usman Polytechnic before they got the university children. Now, there is none of our students that will be held that we’re happy at all. It doesn’t matter which level. One is even too many at any time.
“So yesterday (Tuesday) the military returned with our children that they were able to rescue. We’ve seen the videos you alluded to, and while we cannot attest to their veracity with how authentic there is, it is still concerning, and we are in touch with the military authorities. They are in continuous pursuit of them.
“I was in Katsina to discuss with the detachment that is overseeing that area and all the way to Buni Yadi in Kebbi state where we have some of our children still held. Tigana boys are the ones in Niger state, the Islamia school.
“We are continuously engaging, there is no such thing as federal government not engaging, almost day and night we are engaging. From anywhere that we are in the world we’re trying to engage and I’m just trying to assure Nigerians that as distressing as it is, we are on top of it. And we will keep doing all that we can possibly do to get our children and keep our students safe.”
Asked what measures are in place to ensure that federal government schools are not attacked by bandits, the minister told : “I had already said that the whole of government approaches to security exercise is not just limited to our schools. Yes, the federal government owns a few federal colleges around Nigeria, out of the 25,000 secondary schools, federal government owns only 120 of them. And we are constantly policing each of our parameter areas.
“As far as we’re concerned, we have policemen, we have Civil Defence, we are collaborating with the Ministry of Interior, the police to have personnel, boots on ground everywhere.
“But we’re not limiting ourselves to our own institutions at all, that we’re looking at the security as a national policy is a whole of government engagement.
“And we already had worked out with the rest of the governors and security operatives around the country on how to do this. And I just explained that if you look at a place like Kaduna state, with 512 secondary schools, we’ve had to look at those who are most prone, which from our analysis are exposed, girls secondary schools with boarding facilities are most at risk.
“So what we’ve done is to look at the radius from response time at the security agency stations to where the schools are, and if it exceeds the maximum reaction time that the military and us have worked out, we close down those schools and have them come and recite with or co-locate them with schools that are within the prescient of what we determined are safe at the moment.
“If you go to Sokoto State for instance, we’ve done buzzers we’ve done alarm systems, we’ve done perimeter monitoring, we’ve done community engagement platforms, we’ve done the SBMC procedures, which we put on school management bus and then attach security compliance officers alongside them, we are engaging everyone.
Well, if you look at what we’re doing in Borno state, and all other places where we are at risk, because even in reopening the Chibok school, if you see what Governor Zulum did there, what we did was to first of all, get all the security apparatus around the area to be able to stay within response zones.” |
