So if you’re wondering whether Taraba State is good for NYSC, you’ve got your answer.

6. Niger State :
Undoubtedly, this is the most “secure” state in the north and pays corpers state allowance.

Generally, feeding and housing are cheap in the entire north, and Niger state isn’t an exception.

Besides that, there are various business opportunities you can start while in the north.

The state has a steady power supply, which can be attributed to the Kainji dam’s presence.

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has kicked against the wicked acts of some officials in the Adamawa State Government as they claim some school materials donated for the vulnerable children have been diverted for private use and were seen sold in the markets, Siggy reports.

The UNICEF consultant for education in Adamawa, Joel Isiah, criticised this development as he described the development as “sabotage.”

He explained that the materials are a donation meant to support thousands of vulnerable children in the state whose parents cannot afford or have no access to these materials, gathers.

Isiah said, “The UN organisation received credible information that UNICEF learning materials supplied and meant for vulnerable children were being sold in markets in the state.

“UNICEF is shocked by this. The learning materials are a donation meant to support thousands of vulnerable children in the state whose parents cannot afford or have no access to these materials.”

He added that UNICEF always works with the Ministry of Education, the Universal Basic Education and local education authorities in the movement of such materials.

“UNICEF finally approved the deployment of the materials from its warehouse to the benefiting local government areas.

“We have so far supplied these materials to eight Local Government Areas and were received by the Local Education Authorities.

“These materials are not to be sold. It is a crime against the education rights of Children, humanity and law,” Isiah stated.

The materials, he said, are school bags, mathematical sets, writing books, cleaners, sharpeners among others.

“UNICEF is pleading with the appropriate security and authorities concerned to, as matter of urgency, do what is right. Any person found involved should be brought to book irrespective of his high position,” he urged.

The school authorities of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Ondo State, has announced that it has come up with a new admission system, one which Niger Delta ex-militants will not need to write JAMB before enrolling into the institution, Siggy reports.

According to the institution’s management, the pre-degree programme run by the institution will assist the federal government in skill acquisitions and vocational training for the ex-militants who are beneficiaries of the Presidential Amnesty Programme

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman Governing Council of FUTA, Amb. (Dr.) Godknows Igali, stated this when he led the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Fuwape and other top officials of the institution on a courtesy visit to the Interim Administrator of Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), Col. Milland Dixon Dikio (rtd).

The Special Adviser, Media to the Coordinator of the programme, Neotaobase Egbe, in a statement on Saturday, said the institution offered the school’s entrepreneurship centres with globally recognized certifications for the training of the programme’s beneficiaries.

The institution also commended the federal government for its new focus to train, mentor and employ ex-agitators in order to sustain the existing peace in the Niger Delta region.

He said that Col. Dikio’s pragmatic leadership was proof of his passion for the region and a testament to his commitment to peace, stability and development of the oil-rich Niger Delta.

He said: “Your vision to train, employ and mentor beneficiaries will bring further development and economic prosperity to the region and the nation at large.

“In line with that, in FUTA we have the capacity to train ex-agitators to become agents of change that will reverse the narrative of a people dependent on stipends, become employers of labour and contribute largely to the economic growth of the region through our centre of entrepreneurship.

We have a pre-degree programme, so they don’t have to go through the JAMB cycle.

Our programme also recognizes JAMB, so we will be able to accommodate a lot of trainees into it.”

Also speaking, the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Joseph Fuwape, said that the institution had the capacity and facilities to support the PAP in terms of research, manpower development programmes, innovation and technology in data management, aquaculture, fish farming, agro-business and agropreneurship, among others.

Responding, Col. Dikio, who acknowledged the importance of technology in national development, commended the management team of FUTA for the gesture and promised to set up a team to evaluate the offer and draw up a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

He said that informal education was just as important as conventional education, noting that relevant vocational and business skills could be learnt and used to transform lives and the mindsets of ex-agitators.

Brittany Lopez-Murray, a 31 year old teacher at Hialeah Middle has reportedly been arrested for allegedly having sex with a 14-year-old student in her car multiple times, Siggy reports.

She confessed to have slept with the male student for two months after she confessed her "feelings toward" him over the phone in August.

She was arrested on Saturday, October 2, and later charged with lewd and lascivious battery, molestation, and engaging in a sexual act with a child, reports the Miami Herald.

The accused teacher has taught students at the school for four years and was hailed "rookie teacher of the year" in 2017.

According to local media, the teacher was exposed after the student’s sister-in-law discovered explicit texts and photos between him and the teacher.

It was also reported that the boy's father came across nude photos of the teacher on his son's phone.

Lopez-Murray and the boy, who is now in high school, exchanged texts detailing "how much they enjoyed the sex with each other," the report said.

It is alleged that she would sometimes pick him up from basketball practice and then the two would engage in sexual acts in her car.

Her lawyers, Landon Ray and Jeff Chukwuma, hadn’t seen her arrest report as of Monday night, October 4.

Landon Ray said: "She is presumed innocent until proven guilty. We hope everyone is patient, doesn’t rush to judgment and respects the family’s privacy."

The Miami-Dade school district issued a statement in the Miami Herald, which said that they were "saddened and disappointed" over the allegations.

It read: "All employees receive training and are expected to abide by the District’s Standards of Ethical Conduct policy.

"It is unfortunate that despite our efforts, the actions of some individuals run contrary to the behaviour that is expected of them.

"As a result of this arrest, M-DCPS will begin the process of terminating her employment and prevent her from seeking future work with this District."
