Is Deposit important? Yes.
Does a branch thrive on just deposits? No
That is my point.
Yes, a branch won’t make as much money on only deposits. But a branch with deposits has more chances of making more profit than a branch without.

They can always borrow from the pool.

Targets are just targets. How many percentage of an RM's KPI is this deposit target? How many percentage is PBT/revenue/risk assets...etc?

There are branches with poor deposit, plenty transactions and they do fine. Plenty deposit, poor transaction = loss making branch.

Other income lines do not flow in naturally. It isn't easy to get people to take loans. With high interest rates? It doesn't come naturally at all. The highest you might get is all these petty commissions and fees.

The Head Office just wants to build their deposit base and trade with those monies. While the branches struggle to meet up.

Do deposits itself reflect on a branch's PBT/revenue? I have never seen, maybe I haven't been looking right. Branches that do well are transaction branches, not deposit branches.
If you are speaking from the head office perspective, the pool you are talking about come from deposits. If you look at the balance sheets of banks, their loan to deposit ratios hover between 40 and 50%. Why?

Most times, you don’t need to beg customers that deposited money with you to do transactions like transfers, e-banking and rest of them compared to trying to get them to deposit the funds with you.

While a branch can make some money doing transactions, the most profitable are the ones with biggest deposits. You can easily earn pool income on those deposits if you don’t have plenty transactions.

It’s no coincidence that the biggest banks are banks with the largest deposits.

Have you or do you work in a Bank?

Lmao, I am not fighting with you. I even had to edit my post to be more subtle. grin
Your tone seemed like you wanted to fight o.

I wasn’t saying Banks don’t earn income from other transactions. What I meant was that deposits LET you do the other transactions. So, yes deposits are the most important for any Bank.

You are right that they won’t earn anything if they just sit on the deposits but if the deposits are not there, how do the fees from transactions come in?

That’s why they give huge targets for deposits because they know once the monies come in, other income lines will naturally flow through.

Ah, God.

You guys shouldn't give me headache. Please read a post and understand. Yes, bankers love deposits, but deposits without transactions is nothing!

If you had read further, you will see where I said, deposit is good to trade and avoid pool borrowing. So, yes, money for risk assets comes from deposits. But deposit isn't the all and all of any branch.

You deposit money, they pay you interest. The customer is even the one gaining. So how exactly do you get back from this customer? Because banks are there to make money.

What is the core function or definition of banking? How do banks make money? Deposits? NO!
Okay, I’ve heard you. It’s not fight.

You're right o, without even mentioning account maintenance charges, USSD and other DIY charges. Banks make money through several channels. How banks like Diamond, Skye etc. failed is still beyond my understanding. I can't manage that business and fail.
Bad loans killed them

But tbh, deposit is nothing in the long run. It helps, but it doesn't really impact on the bank's revenue.

What banks love is risk assets or transactions that bring quick money. Like dorm transfers and all. What is deposit? Deposit is just to avoid pool borrowing and probably trade. It doesn't pay salary... grin
Trust me, what bankers love most is deposit. If there is no deposit, where will the money for risk assets come from? If there is no deposit, which funds will customer want to transfer?

Sit down gently while I run you through the wondrous adventure in the beautiful land of Accra.
APRIL 9, 2019 will surely be a memorable date in the history of AVO WhatsApp Group because there are lots of things that made this day peculiar. Is it the theory, guess or speculations that we are made to believe that AVO closes shop to EE Application processing immediately after March to focus on other Visa classes or the MAJOR BOMB that exploded setting free a WHOOPING 14PPRs (associated to our group) + others that are unknown. The WhatsApp Group was balling, even SRAA (Silent Readers Association of Accra) plus their neighbours SOAA (Silent Observers Association of Accra) all came to the Party. I can officially tell you that GOD Opened the flood gate of heaven for the sake of our PPR that day.
Now let’s begin time,
Congratulations

Quite sad, so many people are excited to flee their motherland to help grow and build up a white man's land. It's just like what my friend used to say, 'immigration is modern day slavery except this time they do not have to forcibly chain able bodied men to slave ships or rape our women, they just make it easier for your youngest and brightest minds to simply emigrate in droves'. Who will build this country if you all leave, have you ever thought of that? You think once you run to Canada you will still have any reason to return home? How about your kids? Do you think by taking them to Nigeria for 3weeks vacation will entice them to one day relocate to their father land? Sure nobody thinks about these things. The biggest problem the black race has is selfishness while the white man thinks about the greater good of a community. Everyone only thinks about what will benefit them and their family and that's where it ends. Even in the so called abroad, your fellow Nigerian will not want to accommodate or guide you because they think you will be better than them. Common info about schools, work or getting certain government documents, your fellow Nigerian in the diaspora will not help you. White countries and white people In general are successful because they collaborate and help each other. U.S, Canada and the UK are amongst the most developed countries today due to strong trade and military alliance. A white employer will hire a fellow white man for a lucrative job position before he hires an immigrant with the same credentials.

Before anyone says I'm ranting because I was denied Visa or whatever PPR thing you guys relish here like a lottery ticket, I also used to think abroad was the be all end all after graduating from university. I also hustled and eventually left Nigeria. I made $265,000 that year working several overtime hours (I have the W-2 and tax return forms to prove it) but I was never really satisfied because this part of me kept feeling like I betrayed my country. It takes a special kind of person to self reflect and then decide to walk away from a lifestyle of adequate security, good health care system, great schools, cheap food and law & order but without any sacrifice, Nigeria will perpetually remain a 3rd world cesspool. I moved back, got a job and started a mentorship and scholarship program where we find youths whose families are unable to pay their elementary and secondary school fees and we partner with local businesses to raise funds for these kids. School isn't for everyone, we also train several kids in IT, carpentry, plumbing, construction and mini importation. Has it been easy? No. Do I sometimes miss the convenience of my 2 bedroom apartment in north Los Angeles? You bet I do. But do I feel accomplished knowing that I'm making a positive change in small ways that will alleviate poverty, possibly reduce crime and put more food on the tables of a few Nigerians? Certainly.

The UN needs to look into countries like Canada that take advantage of the dire situation in Nigeria and prowl on our brightest and youngest minds for the sole purpose of developing their country and replacing their aging workforce. Just today, their Prime minister was begging President Buhari to give him 1 million Nigerians. This just sounds like the year 1756 where the white man met with local chiefs and traded silver, mirrors and gun powder for African slaves. While I know most of you have made up your mind to flee your motherland, the least I can urge you to do is to find reputable charities and NGOs in Nigeria and donate to them once in a while. Goodluck.
Congrats on your great sacrifice

Hello Chief gazzuzz,

Kindly advise me appropriately on this. My mechanic said I should be driving my car around without thermostat.

Let me provide some background.

My usual mechanic wasn't available, so I called Mobilemechng guys (don't know if they are on nairaland but that's their IG handle) to work on suspension issues on my car like 3 weeks ago. The mechanic they sent somehow broke a pipe at the radiator head, which leads to the engine and feigned ignorance.

I noticed the temperature going up on 3mb and pulled over. Luckily for me, I was close to Iyana Oworo already. Some guy helped push it into the bus stop and bought 4mins glue to seal it up, to at least get me home. I have always used toyota coolant but had to top it up with water that day.

The following day, they came around, glued it up some more and said it will hold. I drove it around for a few days before I saw the check engine light come up while driving. I pulled over into a filling station to check what could be wrong only to notice the car overheating again but alarmingly, the temperature knob was at the middle.

I popped out my mobile scanner to read and got one error relating to coolant temperature sensor or overheating (cant really remember if it was the P0128). Anyways, the radiator was almost empty and I noticed the leak was from the glued up joint. I patched it up and filled with water to keep me moving. The check engine light went off after the engine cooled down.

Following day, I went to my usual mechanic and he said he has to change the radiator head and I told him to do it.

The check engine light came up after a day of driving and upon scanning, I received the P0128 error code - Coolant thermostat (coolant temperature below thermostat regulating temperature). I called the mechanic and he said he forgot to tell me that he removed the thermostat. He said because of the previous overheating, the thermostat reading will affect the engine. I asked if he needed to replace it but he told me there is no need that the car will work fine.

He has always treated my car well but for some reason, I don't trust his opinion on this one.

Advise me please. its a Toyota matrix

Thank you.

I was advised by someone to use hellofax. But WES specified, by postal mail or courier. Are they the same?
hellofax is okay for copy of degree certificate alone, transcript must come from school and WAEC verification must come from WAEC.

Long post alert on my ielts exam. I took the computer based ielts on Tuesday 12th March, 2019 at workforce group in Gbagada. British council. My experience as follows:
Listening: I was anxious using computer for listening so I took a pen to write on the log on paper but I didn't need it as there was ample time to type directly on the system. All my questions were not more than 1 word. I had a map with 3 questions. Overall, the listening was good. I only missed 1 answer.
Reading: Questions 1-6 were true/false/not given questions. 7-28 were not more than 1 word from different passages. Section 3- six paragraphs for matching headings. The passage was about an animal called Otter. 3 questions were mcq on the writer's feelings. 38-40 was not more than 1 word from the passage. Overall, reading was good.
Writing- Task 1 was letter to local newspaper editor. The old theatre building has been closed down.
-how do you feel
-suggestions on future use
-advantages of your proposal
I wrote it semi-formal style 262 words
Task 2 was people believe that manual labour workers should be paid twice more than skilled professionals. Do you agree or disagree? 322 words. I wrote in favour of skilled professionals.
Speaking-Part 1 was questions about tea or coffee.
Part 2 - tell me about the most handsome/beautiful person you've ever met
- who is the person
- when and where did you meet the person
- how's the personality of the person
- why do you think the person is beautiful/handsome
I spoke less than 2minutes for this part.
Part 3- follow up questions about beauty perception in the society.
Overall, I think it was a good speaking experience. The lady was nodding and smiling at intervals.
My ielts exam experience was generally positive. Fingers crossed for results next week.
I think computer based ielts is very good. We were given umbrellas.
Hope it came out positive

Who will buy my Corolla, tired of this business.

07 Corolla. N1.3m

Price is firm, no pricing. Vehicle is around Ogudu-Alapere

SOLD
In general, the e-hailing vehicle rental business wasn’t really a bad investment but fell short of expectations. It became worse since the turn of the year and I chose to exit before drivers run me mad. I decided to take stock and summarised below:

Cost.
Vehicle purchased in July, 18 (lucky to get a very good deal) – N1m
Repairs and maintenance (tyres, tracker, insurance, servicing for 7 months) – N300k
Total expenditure – N1.3million

Returns.
Total receipts for 7 months from 3 drivers – N586k (average of 83k per month..chai...instead of 120k)
Car retired and sold in March – N1.2m
Total receipts - N1.786m

Net profit – N486k.

Imagine if I was unable to sell the car at a good price, na loss be that.

The current state of the business is manageable for drivers driving their own cars. Between January and February (9 weeks), I received only 120k, which makes an average of 13k per week (even after I reduced rentals to 20k/week). Sharing between drivers and owners on rentals will continue leading to fight, as a driver will only pay after satisfying himself.

Wish y’all good luck, I’ve jumped to the other side of the fence.

Again this write-up isn't for everybody, but I just thought it wise to share for those of you who might be in my shoes. Please excuse my typo, doing this with a bit of tiredness from work.

Unfortunately my Canada immigration pursuit has been truncated for now...NOT TRYING to DISCOURAGE anybody from immigrating to CANADA

I only started comtemplating to relocating out of the Nigeria on March 25th, 2016 after I had sensed in my spirit that God wanted me to leave Nigeria (again, I didn't say I heard God's voice oh!). Meanwhile I was working for a multi-national company in Lagos, salary was okay, bla bla but I never took any action towards relocating.

My belief is that God has a plan for me and I only want to go where He wants me to God, so for the next 1 and half years I was ruminating with the idea and checking my heart for peace. Eventually, I decided to move to Canada after it became clear that it was time for me to leave Nigeria in early 2018. I did the whole shebang - WES (BSc) & IELTS. My first IELTS score was LRWS - 8,8.5,6.5,7.5 with a CRS 0f 376.

The application for my IELTS remark was denied and I only had the option to re-write the test inorder to boost my CRS score. I didn't have the morale/nudging to study for IELTS again, instead I had the convinction to start believing God for a job. Getting a job offer in Canada would go a long way in actualizing the dream, so I started checking with my company's Canadian offices if they had an opening for my role, but unfortunately someone was hired from our Mexico office to Toronto a few months before and the office didn't have any more slots.

Not long after, I found an internal job listing in one of our offices in Western Europe (decided not to mention the exact country becos I want to remain anonymous), after checking my heart if this is what God wants for me and discussing with some people I respect, I applied for the role. Did the interviews and got the job offer late last year. Finally moved/transferred to the new office in January this year.

My brothers & sisters, I'm writing from this Strong western european country where I now live & work. The company I work for practically took care of the costs from visa, air-travel. I also got a relocation allowance and even had the option to move my furnitures & other house hold items with a sea & air shipping company all expenses-paid. Did I mention that I'm also single with only a Nigeria BSc :-). Life for me here is great and I can work in this new country for as long as I want to. Weather is less colder than Canada and I can be back in MMA2 within 6-8 hours.

So what's the moral of the story? Again, this is not for everybody. So here it is - I could still be back in Nigeria wasting time trying to get to Canada, whereas God has already prepared a much better place for me here in this Strong Western Europe country. My parting comment - always check your heart for peace and be open minded to God. I'm not trying to discourage any body from chasing the Canada dream, all I'm saying be open to other options and enter your God given destiny.
you sound familiar DA smiley
