^^^ Thank you so much. I'll keep to the rules. My hungry supervisor is now the one continuing the project in PH. At least he got what he wanted.

I was just made an object of ridicule for nothing other than greed of my supervisor. It would have been nice if he (the supervisor) has approached me for a sub-contract than to mess up the project just to make everyone look stupid. I knew the game plan but i just choose to absorb all blames to ensure that things were corrected. Well, that's gone now. Wishing him the very best in all his endeavors. One thing I'm so happy about is that I left a very solid foundation behind for him to build on. The building will surely stand.

Yesterday, concrete was poured for the spiral staircase RC base and column. Formwork has been removed this morning and now here it is.

26 masons and labourers will be pouring the slab this morning. No more updates until later this evening. It's time to get busy.

Foreign matter will be a problem for maintenance.
Your point is well noted but I think that place won't remain a forest forever.

You're very right sir. My DIY projects can help you to save money and will also provide the reward of completing a DIY project all by yourself.

It will also help you in choosing items that should be quality upfront in your building project.

egin: I mean the main voltage. In the US, it is 110V and in Nigeria, it is 220V. Can this work with 220V?
Yes, it can work with 220V. It's not the only light fittings that I purchased from the store. There are other light fittings and I've been using them without worries.
PropertiesRe: Brabus DIY Weekend Projects by brabus(op): 5:07am On Jul 16, 2013
egin: What voltage is this? 110V or 220V. USA products are mostly 110V
If I can understand your question perfectly well, you are asking what voltage is the light. As I can understand, lights are either Low Voltage (which may require transformers) and Mains Voltage (110V or 220V). This product is not a Low Voltage lighting. It connects direct to the Main supply.

esoorita: As for the issue of Brabus and jaydacorsair, I think mistakes were made by both parties. The mistake jaydacorsair made primarily was to ignore the advice of seasoned builders in the house who ratified the quote or 11 million Naira he got from the architect. If I were jaydacorsair I would not have ignored the advice of Spyder, Segcy-moor and Chekitaut as to
the reasonableness and fairness of the quoted price. However, jaydacorsair did make a comment about tribal fraternity of the builders in supporting the quote by the architect. Sometimes, the cheapest price is not necessarily the best.
The mistake Brabus made was to make a grave error of under-quoting just to secure the job because I do believe that hewould sort of have a gut feeling that the quote he gave jaydacorsair for the building project cannot be achieved. Also, the moment he saw the anomaly in the size of the blocks he should have duly informed his client about the problem and a solution could have been worked out rather than ignoring what would later cause a serious problem for the building and his reputation as a competent and knowledgeable builder.
As things stand at the moment, I think Brabus will have to do a lot of bridge building to restore the faith of any prospective client on Nairaland and the start of it is to tender a public apology to jadacorsair and for him to accept
the apology publicly and then we can move on and close the chapter of the unfortunate incident. We thank God that no life is lost and no one sustained an injury as a result of what happened. The lessons of life is infinite, we are all human and as such we are bound to make mistakes but we have a duty to learn from our mistakes.
What has happened in this instance shouldn't stop anyone from contracting a building project to Brabus because I believe that henceforth he would tread with caution.
I don't need to say anything now until I finish my current project which is twice the size of the one here and the challenges are so enormous, the design more complex. Then, I'll announce the budget so that we can see that the problem ain't underquoting just to secure the job. Irrespective of how bad the situation might be or the challenges of the terrain, I can never miss a simple job as strip foundation on a flat surface completely. Something is definitely wrong somewhere but I thank God the project is moving on without me.

My major mistake is that I am too trusting. The most damaging aspect of the whole drama is the trauma to my heart from being betrayed by the people (typical hungry Nigerians) that I love and trusted.

I pray we shall all be rewarded accordingly. Whom God has blessed, no man can destroy!

While we sand fill the house and await pouring of the ground floor slab, the iron benders are busy preparing the first floor (decking) slab reinforcement. To this end, we are not lagging behind or moving too slow rather we are working frantically to ensure that we deliver on schedule.

Fence Design - What do you think?

I'm commissioned to come up with a nice fence design that would suit this project, but honestly I'm unsure of what design it should be? Dwarf, High, Solid or See-through? The idea is to have a great looking fence that stops people in their tracks asking my client "Where did you get this design from?", and so that he can proudly hand them my card and say "It was designed and built by NextHome Builders"

I'd love to hear your thoughts. Here are some of my favourite at the moment.

Great Saving!

I got some savings and I'll share with you tomorrow. Every project has its ups and downs. If we are quick to mention how difficult it is to get materials uphill, how hard it is to get materials from nearby store, how mother-nature is talking its toll on us; I think its also fair to mention the good sides, how much savings we are getting from the project.

Today, I got about 27 planks from the trees that were felled in the past week. I forgot to take pictures of the planks which were sawn into sizes (1 x 12 and 2 x 12) by our Chainsaw Operator. Picture update tomorrow.

I just hope my client is not reading this.

tommyvicky: @brabus. I have been following your thread for quite sometime and I am really impressed at the beautiful edifice you have produced from foundation to roofing phase. Please I would like to know the total roof measurement of this building and which of the Gerard roof tile product you made use of for the roofing and installation that cost you N2.2 as mentioned in one of your post.
Total Coverage Area is 520sqm @ N3,200

Please note that the quoted sum includes all the accessories, installation, and transportation

Pre-Plastering Work Ongoing

Preliminary works prior to rendering and finishing of this project are presently ongoing. Meanwhile, last week my client asked me to propose a concept design for another multi-dwelling project. And I've been busy working on it. As of yet a final decision has not been made but I am including this here to give an idea of what's coming up. I think I'm getting the reward the client promised at the beginning of the project (a new project if I was able to deliver on schedule without any structural defect).

The key to a successful business is to persuade a customer to buy again, and again. Mine are doing so and I'm so happy again!

Update from last week

Foundation walls and footings dug last week were been filled in with sand (good load bearing soil). We are also compacting areas which are been filled manually. As at this evening, we are still filling the void, we still have a little more space to sand fill. What this mean to us is that we'd be shifting the casting date by one day (from Tuesday to Wednesday). In the meantime, a lot of materials for the casting are already been moved to site. Tomorrow, we will be starting the first fix mechanical works.

Pictures showing the sand filled foundation and the swimming pool been excavated.

China imitation could be about the same amount or cost more because I got it cheaper than the company price. It cost $259.35 on the manufacturer's website

My Gate light bought in an electrical shop in Lagos. This is not a Chinese product. It's a product from a company called Progress Lighting, in Los Angeles. I paid N10,000 for the two gate lights.

I forgot to mention that I got a very nice gate light for this project. I was actually inspired by the gate light that I found online via Flickr. I was able to get something close or much better at a very good bargain.

Picture will be updated later today. I'm also shopping for a video phone for the gate. Gone are the days of door bells. I don't want to be opening my gate for every Tom, Dick and Harry pressing the bell.
