Back then at Asaba, I have this friend of mine called Franklin, dude came to my house one Sunday morning requesting that I drop my keys for him to use my place on Monday morning to entertain one of his numerous Female friends because his girlfriend is still at his apartment.

He came with the lady, and after their time together, she left. When I returned from work, I noticed the bedsheets was scattered, so I quickly changed it, then I went to the kitchen, I was shocked and angry at what I saw there.

There were a lot of tears I had to cry through
A lot of battles left me battered and bruised
And now I was shattered, had my heart ripped in two
I was broken, I was broken,
There were a lot of times I stumbled and crashed
When I was on the edge, down to my last chance
So many times when I was so convinced that
I was over, I was over
But I had to fall yeah
To rise above it all

I'm grateful for the storm
Made me appreciate the sun
I'm grateful for the wrong ones
Made me appreciate the right ones
I'm grateful for the pain
For everything that made me break
I'm thankful for all my scars
'Cause they only made my heart
Grateful, grateful, grateful, grateful, grateful
Grateful

I was sinking, I was drowning in doubt
The weight all of the pain was weighing me down
I pulled it together and I pulled myself out
Learned a lesson, learned a lesson
That there's a lot you gotta go through, hell yes
But that's what got me strong, I got no regrets
And I've got only love, got no bitterness
Count my blessings, count my blessings, yeah
I'm proud of every tear, 'cause they got me here

I'm grateful for the storm
Made me appreciate the sun
I'm grateful for the wrong ones
Made me appreciate the right ones
I'm grateful for the pain
For everything that made me break
I'm thankful for all my scars
'Cause they only made my heart
Grateful, grateful, grateful, grateful, grateful
Grateful

There is nothing I would change
Not even one mistake I made
I got lost, found myself, found my way
I'm grateful for the storm
Made me appreciate the sun
I'm grateful for the wrong ones
Made me appreciate the right ones
I'm grateful for the pain
For everything that made me break
I'm thankful for all my scars
'Cause they only made my heart
Grateful, grateful, grateful, grateful, grateful
Grateful

You know that I'm grateful
You know that I care
No time for the wrong ones
I'll always be there
Grateful

Crime / Final Law Year Student Killed In Bayelsa During NANS Election. by BridgePaul: 5:42pm On Nov 29, 2017
A final year law student was shot dead on Sunday in Otuoke, Bayelsa State, during an election organized by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

Magam Elvis, a delegate from University of Uyo (UNIUYO), Akwa Ibom State, was allegedly killed by fellow students believed to be cultists, The Nation reports. Trouble reportedly started last Saturday after the poll organized to elect NANS coordinators in Zone B. The crisis snowballed into a cult supremacy war, following the arrival and accreditation of delegates.

In the violence that ensued, students sustained gunshot wounds, while others were attacked with machetes, axes and other weapons, as members of rival cults engaged themselves in a free-for-all. The premises of Federal University, Otuoke (FUO), where the election was held, was said to have been thrown into chaos. The situation worsened on Sunday when suspected cultists shot into a crowd of electoral delegates in a lecture hall and killed Elvis

Hours before he was killed, Magam posted on Facebook and it was his last. It read: "In case you don't know,I am that small man with a mighty God and a Lit future."

In an earlier post, he mentioned the NANS election, writing: "On political graph NANS Election 2017 ZONE B Aluta continua !!!!!"

After Magam was gunned down, police, soldiers, and operatives of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were deployed in the community to restore law and order. Police Commissioner Mr. Asuquo Amba, who confirmed the incident, paraded students arrested in connection with the incident and others nabbed for robbery and cultism. Among those arrested was Bayelsa State NANS President Mr. Perewari Benjamin, a 400-level student of Niger Delta University (NDU). He was accused of leading seven suspected cultists to rob people.

The Police Commissioner said he deployed 11 patrol teams to provide security during the poll which eventually degenerated into violence. Prior to the election, he said the Vice Chancellor of FUO, Prof. Accra Jaja, addressed the students and appealed to them to be law-abiding.

Amba explained: "Later, gunshot was heard from the crowd outside the hall. Magam Elvis, male, died as a result of bullet wounds. His body was deposited at the mortuary."

He said three suspects, Emmanuel Ebere, Obiakarije Innocent and Inbong Ben were arrested for Elvis’ murder.

The police commissioner said: "Information has it that two factions that came from UNIUYO were at war. Security is still in place. The situation is being monitored. Investigations are on."

He alleged that the NANS president was arrested with Asari Enabong, Suoguai Bina, Ibe Ogbonna, Igbanibo Tari, Ekperi Kenneth, Kemefie Ebimene and Chukwuma Lawrence. Amba said besides Lawrence, a student of Imo State Polytechnic, others were 200 to 500 level students of NDU. He alleged that the suspects robbed and injured Ayo Kehinde, Jamiu Salahudeen, and Nwanya Chinonso at about 11 a.m. on Isaac Boro Expressway, Yenagoa. The police boss alleged that the victims were conveying the suspects to the NANS election in Otuoke, when the students hijacked the vehicle at gunpoint and robbed them. He added that the suspects robbed their victims of phones, cash and other valuables.

"They were arrested with two locally-made single-barrel pistols, two live ammunition, and charms."

Religion / Deeper Life Pastor Arrested, Detained By Masquerade by BridgePaul: 9:52pm On Oct 25, 2017
A Pastor with Deeper Life Bible Church in Ubahu, Ihembosi Parish, Mark Okeke, has narrated how he was detained and tied in a shrine by a masquerade in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Okeke said that he was flogged, “arrested” and dragged to the masquerade’s shrine in Otukwe village where the masquerade and his accomplices stripped him naked and tied him to their shrine, probably to use him for human sacrifice.

He said that on the fateful day, he came out of his house where the masquerades accosted him and began to flog him and ignored all his pleas.

Okeke said that he told them that he is the pastor with Deeper Life Bible Church in the next village and that since he gave his life to Jesus Christ, he had renounced his membership of the masquerade cult as a born again Christian.

According to the pastor, the flogging and beating did not stop as they dragged him to the shrine (Oda Mmanwu) where they removed his clothes, tore them into shreds and tied him naked in the shrine.

Okeke said that when he saw them with machetes, he concluded that the end had come for him and thanked God they changed their mind and locked the shrine leaving him naked and tied.

The clergyman added that as the masquerade and his accomplices were leaving they vowed to deal with him when they returned. He said that since he could not figure out what may happen when they came back he prayed and God intervened.

Okeke said that the ropes they used to tie his hands suddenly snapped and when he realised that his hands were freed, he used them to untie the ropes on his waist and legs and escaped.

According to the pastor, he first called at the house of his sibling, a sister who is married to a man living in Ozubulu, a border town with Ihembosi. He said that he was later told that when the masquerade returned and discovered that he had escaped, they were infuriated and stormed his residence where they went on rampage.

His ordeal has been widely condemned by groups and prominent people in the area.

The President-General of Ihembosi People’s Assembly (IPA), Barr Chika Dumije, deplored the action of the masquerade and sued for peace.

Also, the Ihembosi Born Again Christian Organisation (IBACO), an umbrella body for the Pentecostal/Evangelical churches in Ihembosi and the Scripture Union (SU) Nigeria has vowed to use the incident to put an end to the intimidation of its members by the masquerades.

The Chairman of IBACO, Mr. Gab Ugwumba, said that the group had twice signed agreements with the Masquerade Council, but were violated. He said that since there is freedom of worship, association and movement as enshrined in the Constitution of Nigeria, the masquerades should allow born-again Christians to worship God as they wish.

He appealed to the Anambra State government to call the masquerades to order and ensure that the fundamental rights and dignity of the human person are respected.

An IBACO official said that certain government officials, an ex-minister in the First Republic and a Roman Catholic priest were behind the recent revival of the masquerade cult in Anambra.
Health / Man Who Spends 3 Whole Years Living On Top Of Coconut Tree | Photos by BridgePaul: 8:44pm On Oct 25, 2017
A man shocked the world with his weird decision to leave the comfort of his home and live on top a really tall coconut tree for three long years.

Gilbert Sanchez, a 47-year-old man from La Paz, in the Agusan del Sur province of the Philippines, had last felt solid ground under his feet in 2014, before climbing a 60-foot-tall coconut tree near his house.

According to Oddity Central, he had never come down since, and would have probably stayed atop the tree till the end of his days, had authorities not rescued him by force recently.

The man had apparently left his home to live atop a nearby coconut tree three years ago, after being hit on the head with a gun, during an altercation.

His mother remembers that he was so afraid that someone would come to kill him that he felt that the only way to stay alive was to climb the tallest tree he could find and stay there. And that’s exactly what he had been doing for the last three years, surviving only on the food and water his mother brought him every day, which he would pull up in his tree haven with an improvised rope. He would relieve himself from the top of the tree, and not even the raging storms, the blistering heat or the ruthless insects could get him to come down.

Winifreda Sanchez, Gilbert’s mother, had been trying to convince him to come down from the tree at least to get a bath, but he always refused. All she could do for him was deliver food, water, clothes and cigarettes to him every day, hoping that they would at least keep him alive. She would shout to him to lower his rope, tie the supplies tightly, and he would hoist them up to his tree-top haven.

Aldrin Sanchez, Gilbert’s brother, said that both he and the other members of their family had been constantly pleading with him to come down, but he just waved them away.

“One time, I asked him to come down,” Aldrin told KMJS Exclusives. “He said ‘Be quiet, I won’t go down. Someone would kill me if I do.’”

A widower since 2000, when his wife died giving birth to their second daughter, Gilbert Sanchez didn’t even come down from his tree-top home when his mother told him that she was too old to take proper care of his children, and that they didn’t even go to school anymore.

Even though everyone in La Paz knew Gilbert Sanchez’s story, no one did anything about it until an obscure article about him went viral on social media and was eventually picked up by major news outlets in the Philippines. They sent film crews to his village, and their coverage finally convinced local authorities to help the man’s family get him down from his tree.

On October 11th, a team of 50 people along with Gilbert’s family tried convincing him to come down voluntarily, one more time, after which they started cutting down the coconut tree with a chainsaw. It was a difficult operation, as one wrong move could make the difference between bringing the man down safely or killing him, but in the end, everything went as planned, and Gilbert was once again on solid ground, after three long years.

Videos doing the rounds on Facebook show Gilbert Sanchez’s body covered in blisters and insect bites. He also suffers from muscle atrophy and his spine has become deformed after so much time spent crouching in the coconut tree. But the man’s mind is by far the most damaged.

According to a psychiatrist’s initial assessment, the 47-year-old exhibits symptoms of psychosis, including delusions, hallucinations and the fear that someone is trying to kill him. He has been put on a medication, and will have to take it regularly in order to have a normal life.

Gilbert’s tragic story made quite an impact on Filipino social media, with many users asking how they could help him and his mother get their lives back on track.

A bank account in Winifreda Sanchez’s name was set up so people could donate whatever they could to their cause.
Health / What Can You Eat During Pregnancy? by BridgePaul: 12:50pm On Oct 24, 2017
Now that you know what not to eat, let us see what you should eat during pregnancy. They supply essential nutrients required for the growth and development of the fetus (32).

Fresh fruits and vegetables – apples, berries, oranges, papaya, melons, strawberries, broccoli, cabbage, sweet potatoes, kale, spinach, and Swiss chard
Dairy foods – pasteurized milk and yogurt, cooked soft blue cheese (gorgonzola)
Cereals and whole grains – rice, wheat, oatmeal, and bread
Thoroughly cooked eggs
Chicken and meat – chicken breasts, lean meat, and fat-free red meat
Dried beans and lentils – black beans, pinto beans, and chick peas
Be selective and cautious about what you eat when you are carrying. Remember that your food defines your as well as your baby’s health. You can make dull and mundane food tasty right at home. So indulge in some cooking too.

Do you have any foods to add to our list? Share them with us in the comments section below.
Health / 27 Foods To Avoid During Pregnancy by BridgePaul: 12:42pm On Oct 24, 2017
1. Fish containing mercury:
Fish such as shark, swordfish, king mackerel, and tilefish have high mercury levels and must be shunned. Mercury, an element found in oceans, streams, and lakes, converts into methylmercury in the human body. It is a neurotoxin and is linked to brain damage and developmental delays in babies. You could choose fish such as salmon, catfish, cod, and canned light tuna, which have low mercury levels. According to the US FDA, you can eat up to eight to 12 ounces of fish per week, which is two to three servings. Consumption of white tuna (albacore) should be limited to six ounces per week (1).

Solution: Choose fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids and low in mercury as the high protein, low saturated fats and many essential nutrients contribute to the child’s heart and brain development, and aid in proper growth. You should, however, check with a doctor to know about the fish you can eat.

2. Smoked seafood:
Do not take smoked and refrigerated seafood, which are labeled as lox, jerky, nova style and kippered as they contain Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. This bacteria causes listeriosis (associated with symptoms such as diarrhea and vomiting) that could lead to illness in newborn and even miscarriage or stillbirth. Moreover, processed seafood contains high levels of salt which can lead to increased blood pressure and swelling of the body parts.

Solution: You can include canned smoked seafood as well as cooked varieties.

3. Fish exposed to industrial pollutants:
Fish from local streams, lakes, and rivers contain harmful levels of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). On exposure to these contaminants, the babies may have low birth weight, smaller head size, learning disabilities, and memory problems. Avoid eating locally caught striped bass, pike, bluefish, salmon, trout, and walleye.

Solution: You can choose fresh water fishes.

Also, follow a few tips when picking fish from a local stream, lake, or river. Firstly, check the advisories related to that water body. You can get the information from the fishing regulations websites or at a local health department. This information would be regarding fish caught from local waters and not the ones available at local groceries. Avoid raw fish as it is more likely to contract food borne diseases.

4. Raw shellfish:
Avoid eating raw shellfish such as oysters, clams, and mussels to stay away from seafood-borne illnesses and food poisoning. They contain harmful bacteria, viruses, and toxins that will make you ill.

Solution: Instead you can eat cooked shellfish ensuring that you cook them with their shells open.

5. Raw or undercooked eggs:
You should not eat raw, undercooked, or soft-boiled eggs as they contain harmful salmonella bacteria which cause food poisoning. You may experience diarrhea, severe vomiting, headache, abdominal pain, and high temperature. All these symptoms are unlikely to harm your baby, but your immune system will become weaker, which may impact the baby’s development.

The following foods contain raw egg and must be avoided:

Homemade Caesar dressings, custards, ice creams, mayonnaise and Hollandaise sauces, Béarnaise sauce, Aioli sauce, desserts including mousse, tiramisu, and meringue.

Solution: Buy pasteurized egg products. You can choose commercially manufactured ice cream, mousse, eggnog, and dressings. Eat cooked eggs that contain firm yolks or a well-cooked omelet, and salads.

6. Raw meat and poultry:
Having undercooked/raw meat and poultry, such as pink or raw meat that is bloody, can cause toxoplasmosis as it contains Toxoplasma parasite. It leads to flu-like symptoms that develop a few weeks after consumption of that food. It can lead to miscarriage or fetal death during delivery.

Undercooked meat also contains harmful bacteria salmonella, which increases the risk of food poisoning.

Solution: You must have well-cooked and hot meat and poultry. Eat home-cooked varieties where the temperature should be around 160°F for ground meats, 145°F for whole cuts, and 165°F for chicken breasts.

7. Deli meats:
You should avoid deli meats, also called ready-to-eat meats, such as sandwich meat, cold cuts, lunch meat, hotdogs, and sliced meats. They are known to contain listeria bacteria, which can readily move from the mother to placenta causing serious complications including fetal death.

Solution: Pasteurization and cooking at a high temperature kill listeria. Thus, you should eat deli meats only after reheating until they are steaming hot.

8. Unpasteurized milk:
It is unsafe to drink unpasteurized or raw milk during pregnancy. It has no nutritional advantage, and raw milk and its products account for a higher proportion of food borne diseases. They contain harmful bacteria such as salmonella, listeria, E.coli, and cryptosporidium that can be dangerous to you and your bab.

Solution: Buy pasteurized milk and its products only. In pasteurization, the milk is subjected to a high temperature that kills the disease-causing microbes. You can also choose non-dairy milk such as soy milk, rice milk, almond milk, and oat milk as they are safer and contain similar nutrition.

9. Soft cheeses:
Do not eat soft cheeses such as Camembert, Roquefort, Gorgonzola, brie, feta, blue cheese, queso fresco, queso blanco, and panela unless they are pasteurized. Unpasteurized soft cheeses contain listeria.

Solution: Eat hard cheeses (Cheddar or Swiss cheeses) as they do not contain water unlike soft cheeses. Therefore, these cheeses are less likely to harbor any bacteria. All non-imported soft cheeses that are pasteurized are safe to consume.

10. Unwashed fruits and vegetables:
Unwashed fruits and veggies carry Toxoplasma parasite that harms the developing baby. Toxoplasmosis contaminates the soil where fruits and vegetables are grown and you may ingest the harmful microbes if you eat them unwashed.

Solution: Rinse the fruits and vegetables thoroughly under running water. Peel away or scrub the surfaces and cut off the bruised areas as they are prone to bacteria. Cook the vegetables, especially the leafy ones.

11. Raw sprouts:
Do not eat raw sprouts including clover, alfalfa, mung bean, radish, broccoli, sunflower, onion, soybean, and snowpea sprouts. They are highly prone to listeria, salmonella, and E.coli bacteria. As you know, listeriosis could lead to premature birth, miscarriage, stillbirth, and infections in newborns. Salmonella and E.coli can lead to severe illnesses.

Solution: Consume cooked sprouts.

12. Certain fruits and vegetables:
The Below Fruits Should Be Avoided During Pregnancy:

Papaya (rich in latex that could lead to uterine contractions)

Black grapes (build heat in the body that is harmful to the baby)

Pineapple (rich in bromelain that could soften the cervix leading to early labor).

The below vegetables should be avoided during pregnancy:

Cabbage and lettuce (as they carry foodborne illnesses)

Eggplant (for of its property of stimulating menses which may lead to abortion)

13. Foods that cause allergy:
Soy, wheat, cow’s milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts (almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts, more), fish, and shellfish should only be consumed if you are not allergic to them. However, a few studies say that taking these foods during early pregnancy may decrease the chances of the baby developing allergies and asthma later in life. But, you cannot be sure about this.

Solution: As not all studies support this claim, it is best to check with your doctor what is safe and what is not, especially when it comes to allergies.

14. Restaurant-made salads:
Say no to restaurant-made salads such as Caesar salad dressing, pre-made meats (ham, chicken salads), and seafood salads as they carry harmful microbes. The raw eggs, vegetables, and leaves used in salads harbor salmonella and listeria bacteria, which could lead to food poisoning. Eating contaminated salad can cause flu-like symptoms in the mother and severe health complications in babies.

Solution: Make salads at home by following food safety basics. Make sure to clean and chop fruits and vegetables in clean surroundings, and cook meat, and eggs properly.

15. Unpasteurized juices:
Unpasteurized fruit and vegetable juices, including packaged ones, may carry harmful E.coli and salmonella bacteria. Not only that, a glass of freshly made juice may also pose a risk if the fruits or vegetables are not washed well.

Solution: Choose pasteurized juices or make some at home. You must wash the fruits and vegetables thoroughly under running water and use a brush to scrape away the dirt, and cut off any bruised areas.

16. Excess caffeine:
Higher amounts of caffeine could increase your chances of miscarriage and low birth weight babies. You should limit your intake to 200mg a day. Caffeine is also found in tea, chocolate, and many energy drinks. Some research studies reveal that caffeine is associated with premature birth and withdrawal symptoms in infants.

Other drinks to avoid during pregnancy are soft drinks, diet soda, alcohol, and iced tea.

Solution: Opt for decaffeinated beverages, especially in your first trimester as the risk of miscarriage is high.

17. Herbal teas and supplements:
Herbs used for tea, seasonings, or as supplements could harm both the mother and fetus. Certain herbs such as ephedra, angelica, kava kava, yohimbe, black and blue cohosh, dong quai, borage oil, pennyroyal, and mugwort are uterine stimulants, which should be completely avoided during pregnancy.

Comfrey, black walnut, cascara sagrada, fenugreek, echinacea, goldenseal, horsetail, licorice root, saw palmetto, senna, motherwort, St.John’s wort, shepherd’s purse, wormwood, tansy, and uva ursi may lead to miscarriage.

Other herbs that are unsafe to use or ingest are aloe, ginseng, and evening primrose. Also, avoid green tea and wheatgrass juice as there is not enough evidence about their safety during pregnancy. You should also check with your health practitioner before taking too much of nettles, dandelion, or chamomile teas.

Solution: It is better to have a hot cup of regular chai or tea rather than herbal tea. If you are worried that you are losing out on any benefits of herbal tea, then ask your doctor to prescribe a health tonic or multivitamin.

18. Canned foods:
Canned foods, including fruits, vegetables, and sodas are harmful for two reasons:

The lining of the food cans contains Bisphenol A (BPA), a toxic substance that affects the fetal endocrine activity and causes fertility problems, cancer, liver ailments, and heart diseases in pregnant women and the tinned foods might be too old to eat and harbor harmful bacteria due to their long shelf life.
Canned pasta, soup, and infant formulas contain high BPA levels. Also, canned tuna and tuna salads contain high mercury levels that are poisonous for the mother and the fetus.
Solution: Opt for fresh vegetables, fruits, and fish or you can find varieties where BPA is not used. Wash the canned fruits and vegetables thoroughly before consumption. Choose seasonal choices so that you get to eat fresh fruits.

19. Nitrate-rich foods:
Avoid cured sandwich meats, bacon, deli meats, sausages, salami, and hot dogs as they contain nitrates. Nitrate enhances the food’s color and improves shelf life. But on consumption, the nitrates turn to nitrosamines in the bodies, increasing the chances of cancer in mothers and abnormalities in the fetus. Nitrate-rich foods also contain sodium and saturated fats which may be badduring pregnancy.

Solution: Eat well-cooked and lean cuts of your favorite meals to be on a healthy and safer side.

20. Sugar-rich foods:
Cut down on sugar-rich foods such as desserts, candies, cakes, ice creams, biscuits, chocolates, and sweetened beverages. They worsen pregnancy discomforts (nausea, vomiting, constipation, heartburn), increase weight, contribute to gestational diabetes, increase the risk of preterm labor, preeclampsia, and increase the risk of metabolic syndrome in babies.

Solution: Choose healthier sugar food options such as pears, grapefruit, dates, and apricots as they make great alternatives to foods containing added sugars. They are sweeter and healthier choices.

21. Street foods:
You may be craving for those sweet, sour, and spicy treats. They can increase the risk of infections, stomach problems, and food poisoning. They are harmful because of the poor food and water hygiene standards. Some examples of the street foods include hot dogs, burritos, churros, cotton candy, soft pretzels, simit breas, corn in a cup, chicken rice.

Solution: If you like street food, find recipes of these foods online and make them at home! It will be fun.

22. Fatty foods:
Avoid trans-fats or hydrogenated fats including fast foods, processed foods, and takeaways such as crackers, cookies, frozen pizza, fried foods, margarine, and frosting. Also, the American Heart Association recommends limiting the trans-fats to less than 1% of your total calorie intake (24), to avoid the risk of heart diseases, obesity, increased fetal growth, and preterm labor.

Solution: Discuss fat-free options with your doctor for proper advice and recommendations. Foods containing omega 3, 6, 9 fatty acids are vital as they are essential for you and your growing fetus. They are abundant in olives, nuts, avocados, flax seeds, and fish. However, do not binge on them.

23. Artificial sweeteners:
The safety of artificial sweeteners, including aspartame and saccharin, is controversial as some health practitioners believe that they are safe if used in moderate amounts while some others differ. You should avoid aspartame if you have a genetic disease phenylketonuria (PKU). Your body cannot digest phenylalanine (a compound found in aspartame), which can, therefore, lead to birth defects. Saccharin is known to remain in the fetal tissues and shows no evidence of risks.

Solution: Use natural sugars but in moderation. Check with your doctor about the safety of artificial sweeteners if you have been using them.

24. Excess of vitamins:
You will have to increase the intake of certain nutrients (such as folic acid, iron, and calcium) during pregnancy. But be careful about the recommended dosages Avoid taking extra dosages of both fat-soluble and water-soluble vitamins.

Excess fat-soluble vitamins can be stored in your body fat and liver, leading to harmful effects on the mother and the fetus . Likewise, water-soluble vitamins taken in excess can show irritating effects on the digestive system.

Solution: Have more natural sources of vitamins rather than supplements.

25. Homemade goodies:
Do not eat homemade cookies as the raw dough used for cooking may harbor bacteria, leading to food poisoning. This is true even in case of homemade ice-creams.

Solution: If you just can’t keep your hands off the baked treats, go for the treats from reputed brands.

26. Licorice:
Avoid licorice (mulethi) during pregnancy as one of its components, glycyrrhizin, is associated with several fetal developmental issues. The component impairs the placenta allowing the stress hormone to enter the baby, affecting its IQ. Research shows that ADHD issues in children and early puberty in girls are also side-effects of licorice. It also leads to higher blood pressure and preterm labor.

Solution: It’s best to avoid licorice in all its forms during pregnancy.

27. Leftovers:
Stay off from hot or cold foods that have been at room temperature for more than two hours. They are likely to harbor bacteria.

Solution: Eat freshly cooked foods. If required, store the leftover in the fridge and reheat thoroughly (up to 165°F) in clean utensils.

Disclaimer: Before you include or avoid any of the foods mentioned in the above list, consult your gynecologist or healthcare provider.

Also, follow a few safety tips to ensure that you have a healthy pregnancy.

Head coach of the Argentina national team, Jorge Sampaoli, has explained why they picked Nigeria as opponents in next month’s friendly game in Russia.

The two teams will take on each other on November 14, as they prepare for the 2018 World Cup.

Argentina will play their first warm-up game against Russia, before taking on Nigeria four days later.

Sampaoli has already released a list of foreign-based players for the encounter, with names like Lionel Messi, Paulo Dybala, Angel Di Maria, etc. included.

“They (Nigeria) are a very physical side, and also technical in their style of play, which is totally different from the teams we faced during the World Cup Qualifiers. Nigeria also have some very good players.

“For now they are one of the best team in Africa, which tells a lot about their qualities, we are expecting a very challenging game from Nigeria. They are good in several ways,” Sampaoli said in Argentina.
Politics / Breaking: Southern Govs Unite On True Federalism, Devolution Of Powers by BridgePaul: 8:58am On Oct 24, 2017
For the first time in 12 years, Governors of the Southern States of Nigeria on Monday met in Lagos, where they unanimously reiterated the call for true federalism and devolution of powers to States.
The Governors, in a communique at the end of the meeting read by the host Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State, also resolved to collaborate with one another for the growth and development of their economies. Aside Governor Ambode, the meeting was attended by Governors of Ogun, Senator Ibikunle Amosun; Oyo, Seantor Abiola Ajimobi; Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Ebonyi, David Umahi; Edo, Mr. Godwin Obaseki; Ondo, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu; Abia, Mr. Okezie Ikpeazu; Enugu, Mr. Henry Ugwuanyi; Bayelsa, Mr. Seriaki Dickson and Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose. Governors of Cross River, Anambra and Delta were represented by their Deputies – Mr. Evara Esu; Dr. Ikem Okeke and Mr. Kingsley Otuaru respectively. Continuing with the communique, Governor Ambode said the Governors after extensive deliberations, also emphasized priority on security and lives and property of citizens of the regions, while also resolving to work on effective linkage on good infrastructure across the 17 States in the region. At the meeting, Governor Ambode was unanimously appointed as the Chairman of the Southern Governors Forum (SGF) while Governors Seriaki Dickson of Bayelsa and David Umahi of Ebonyi States were appointed as Co- Chairmen of the Forum. The Forum also scheduled the next meeting for Port Harcourt in a yet to be announced date. Earlier, Governor Ambode, while welcoming his colleagues to the meeting, reflected on the clamour for true federalism and devolution of powers, saying that states will benefit from the envisaged restructuring. He said the goals of true federalism, which included the strengthening of autonomy and the enhancement of fiscal viability will enable the states to develop at their own pace and based on their peculiarities. He said the forum had achieved an increased awareness on the sustenance of the national question germane to peaceful co-existence in the country. However, he said there is a lot to be done and achieved, stressing that true federalism required urgent, meticulous and proactive attention by the forum. Ambode frowned at what he described as the non-periodic review of the revenue formula as provided by the constitution to reflect evolving realities. He said the review is crucial to enhance the viability of states and local government and their capacity to fulfil their developmental roles in the polity. The governor added: “States are disparaged for always carrying begging bowls to Abuja in quest of hand-outs from the Federal Government. This is a function of our present national constitution that burdens the Federal Government with activities and responsibilities that rightly fall within the province of states. “The productivity and revenue-generating capacities of most states are thus stifled, thus turning them into no better than street beggar states incapable of even meeting routine obligations of paying workers’ salaries and pensions without federal support.” Ambode recalled that Lagos State had fought and won several legal battles since 1999 that have systematically strengthened her autonomy and enhanced her fiscal viability. He noted that the state had won the legal control over the management of its environment, the control of urban and physical planning, the regulation of overhead masts, the registration and regulation of hotels and restaurants, and the control of inland waterways. Ambode said these victories belonged, not only to Lagos, but also to other states, adding that, if Lagos could achieve so much by fighting alone, the Southern Governors’ Forum will accomplish more through collective planning and strategy. The governor said the forum has been reactivated at the time the National Assembly is harmonising its differences over the 1999 Constitution amendment, which will soon be transmitted to the Houses of Assembly for approval He said: “It is important for this forum to comprehensively look at the proposed amendments with a view to working with our respective Houses of Assembly to ensure a coordinated response on our part that will strengthen the practice of democracy, federalism, constitutionalism and the rule of law. Ambode clarified that, while pushing for greater devolution of powers, responsibilities and resources from the centre to the states, the goal of the forum is neither to a weak centre and strong states and vice versa. The governor paid tribute to former Lagos State Governor Bola Tinubu for his initiave, recalling that he hosted the first meeting of the forum in Akodo Beach Resort, Ibeju-Lekki, whe he was at the helm of affairs. He said while the initiative was received with mixed feelings at the time, Tinubu was vindicated later because of its achievements as the forum became a vocal voice on maters of critical importance, not only to the Southern Nigeria, but to the country as a whole. Ambode hailed the forum for advocating for a special allocation to oil-producing states in the Federation Account, adding that its agitation led to the current 13 per cent revenue derivation and allocation from the Federation Account. He said: “Another major victory won towards strengthening the country’s practice of true federalism was the declaration by the Supreme Court in 2002 that the then prevalent practice of the Federal Government deducting monies from the Federation Account as a first charge for the funding of Joint Venture Contracts, the NNPC priority projects, servicing of Federal Government’s external debt, the judiciary and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and other federal obligations were illegal and unconstitutional. “The Supreme Court in that case abolished the special funds created by the Federal Government to enable it draw funds from the Federation Account to pay for matters that fell within its exclusive responsibility before sharing whatever was left with states and local governments.”

Sports / Watford Punish Isaac Success After Affair With Prostitutes, Police Arrest by BridgePaul: 12:49pm On Oct 23, 2017
English Premier League, Watford Football Club have scolded Nigeria’s Isaac Success following is conduct after an angry bust-up with four prostitutes who he accused of cheating him out of £2,000
The 21-year-old striker, who is currently injured, was detained by police last month after four prostitutes at an hotel in Hertfordshire reported that Isaac Success was demanding £2,000 back(the money he wired to their account) after he downed two bottles of Baileys and then flopped in bed.

On Friday www.bbc.com reported that Watford coach, Marco Silver had handed a strict warning to his footballers literately using success as a ‘scapegoat’ making reference to the case which put the player and the club into an ugly spotlight.

He said, “He needs to be careful – everyone needs to be careful – and know the right way,” said the Portuguese Silva.

“Everybody at the club knows the rules and their obligations as a professional.”

“What we are talking about is one situation in September,” added Silva, who refused to reveal whether Watford would discipline the Nigerian striker.

One would hope that Success who joined the Hornets for a then club-record fee of £12.5m from Spanish club Granada in August 2016, signing a five-year contract would adhere to the warning as his future with the club maybe put on the line.

Isaac success has yet to future for the Premier League side this season. He managed just one goal from 19 games last season, netting against Bournemouth over a year ago. However, he now faces eight weeks out with injury following a knee injury sustained in training.

“We expect six to eight weeks,” said Silva. “It’s a knee injury, a problem he had in one session here.”

“It was a normal situation and looked nothing special at that moment but after examinations, the problem is bigger and now we need to wait for him.”

Success’ sole appearance for Watford this season came as a second-half substitute in their 3-2 defeat by Bristol City in the Carabao Cup in August.

- Surgeons separated them when they were seven weeks old

- Despite immense challenges, they are still fighting to stay alive two years later

Formerly conjoined twins in Kentucky, US are bravely fighting to stay alive despite immense health challenges two years after they were separated.

Miracle and Journee Brooks were born conjoined from their chest down to their belly button, a situation known as a thoraco-omphalopagus.

Surgeons performed surgery to separate them when they were just seven weeks old. It was extremely risky because only about five to 25 percent of conjoined twins survive it.

Miraculously, the two are still alive two years later. Journee is however still in hospital while Miracle was able to recover faster and was discharged.

However, both are without a sternum. This means that they have to be on a ventilator for the foreseeable future in order to breathe. They are also unable to eat on their own.

Their mother Jasmine Brooks has appealed for help to cover their medical bills through a GoFundMe page. The twins also need full-time nurses to care for them.

In an interview, she said: "It's been chaos all over the place trying to get everything figured out for Miracle being here, and then going to Louisville to see Journee, and all their medications and support they have to have."
