Very true but Nigerians like to act as if they're somewhat Demigods in the IT space

The average Indian does not have distractions like women /relationships when growing up.. Everything is book and more book as that's about the only way they know to succeed

Their environment also is enabling as there's reward for hardwork, plenty light, cheap Internet and skilled teachers who actually want you to know what they're teaching you

I don't know about 2 year programs. But I guess that will have internship opportunities which could be an advantage.

why are they scared of sponsoring post study visa holders?
Is this associated with the money they will pay? Or is their any other thing hindering them from sponsoring?
If money is the problem, what if a post study visa holder decide to cover the cost that will be incurred will this be legal?

I am seeing everyone saying jobs in IT this and that. If you think its easy do 10 interviews. You might not even get 1 offer. Lots of jobs means they are going to probably take people from other up companies as their is a lot of job migration going on.

Also have to point out that, for post study visa these companies are offering you 2 years contract instead of full time in order to dodge the sponsorship thing.

So please be careful and look for people successful in your area before venturing into the field. Always good to have a mentor.

Mentioned doing sensible courses o the other thread but it seems many people are looking at japa and not planning the end of the japa itself

You are absolutely right.

The U.K has made it somewhat easy for students to come study, but hard for them to stay back after studies. Vice versa is the case for Canada.

One has to start thinking about the end in mind especially after the expiration of the post study visa.

From my research, these are the options I've narrowed it down to.

1. Get a Tier 2 sponsored job, outside I.T and Healthcare, other people who seemed to have clinched it seems to be based on luck/favor/grace.

2. Marriage.

3. Moving to other countries: I feel this is the most viable option.

I'm welcome to other suggestions.

How will changing jobs to a company willing to sponso your visa affect your CV?

I also got my Engineering role before I finished my masters and I know several others in my school too who got jobs aafter our first semester. Just make sure you utilise your schools' career services and open your eyes.

All the Gurus in d house n Bales of this thread ... please oo do UK employers call your previous employers in nigeria ... like all the places you stated in your cv you worked.. will they call them? I'm asking because I left some nonsense 40k n 50k jobs in the past oo, though all those places built my experience but wen wahala too much and work wan keel awa enemy I left without resigning oo... please don't criticize me leaving those jobs d way I did... if they treated me right .. I would have resigned properly...I no give 2 weeks notice so dat my money no go hang..... and dem begin post me like postinor

1. I did not start the job until after my MSc. So the way it works is this: grad jobs will be advertised from September to Janauary but you won't have to start the job until the next September.
2. It was full time. Like I said above you will have the job offer but you will start after your MSc.
4. Age does not really matter. Even over 50s get jobs.

Coming in January means that it might take you longer to get a job as most grad jobs would have closed by then. There will be still some few ones still open though.

Regarding competency questions, you will need to take time to think about your past experiences where you have demonstrated different soft skills and then document them. That will help you whenever you are doing applications and telephone interviews.

I will suggest you explore a Masters in your field of engineering with a form of specialization, rather than switching your career totally. It is easier to build on your current knowledge than starting another career entirely, Engineering jobs are also in high demand in UK, though not as much as Nursing and other medical jobs.

What dupyshoo was saying is that she got her job before she finished her masters and she was giving you the tip on how to go about it. She didn't have to start the job until after the completion of her masters. That's the way it works most of the time. Before the introduction of PSW, most students complain they only have 4 months after their studies to look for sponsorship and it's inadequate, that is wrong. The UK gives you about 16 months to look for job. Your graduate job search starts in September when you resume and hopefully by January of February after your first semester exams, you would have gotten a job offer to start in September of that year. That leaves you to then concentrate on your studies (2nd semester and project). Most big companies advertise their graduate positions for the following year September start between September and December the year before. The effects of COVID-19 on the engineering job market is relative. While some sectors were shut down during the peak of the pandemic, others were on full steam. But the demand has always been there for engineers throughout the pandemic.
Let me use ill working throughout the peak of COVID-19. And the company I work with has recruited over 3500 engineers nationwide so far since the pandemic. I also have a friend who is a wind turbine engineer and was working through the pandemic. In summary, engineers are as essential as doctors and are always in demand
