PoliticsSuspected Fulani Herdsmen Attack Kaduna Community Again, Kill 3, Injure Many by broseme(op): 1:55pm On Jan 18, 2017
As shared by Blessing......

'Yesterday evening, some few minutes after 8:00pm, I was with my mum in her room catching up because she had just come back from a journey when we heard the first gun shots. Shots were fired about five times, we paused a little and wondered what it was about and were about to continue gisting when we heard more. This time around, the shots were louder and plenty. We turned off the gen and switched off all lights, came out of the house and heard people screaming and plenty dogs barking. This went on for sometime till we heard the siren of a police vehicle. The shots began to thin out till there were none.

Many phone calls were being made by us and to us. People asking if we are safe. People telling us what they have heard happened or is happening. We didn't sleep much last night in Samaru Kataf because there was and there is a tragedy.

This morning, I went to the market area to see for myself and try to find out what happened.

I met some eye witnesses. They were seated at a spot they usually hang out at. Yesterday was our market day. They didn't know where the shots started from but the shots were aimed at all of them around that area. Three people were shot dead. One had a bullet straight to his head that scattered it. One had bullets around his abdomen and spine. They all laid there helpless and crying out for help till they gave up. These young people... Constance Adankaat, Victor Daniel and Samaila Dariya are no more.

Right now, Aminu Basaki, Christopher Yakubu, Bakam Waje Lajoe (my cousin) and Postguy are in the hospital from gun shot injuries.

I am still not certain about how these gun men/man came to Samaru. I have heard that they came in a vehicle, fired their shots and took off towards Kagoro/Kafanchan. I have also heard that 2 of them came on a bike, fired the shots and took off towards Ungwan Jaba/Samaru Roundabout.

Whatever the story is, people came with gun(s), fired at our people, killed three and injured some then took off.

The police were at their check point but did nothing claiming they didn't hear the shots. The check point is not far from the market area. Nobody in this Samaru can say they didn't hear gunshots last night. Even people as far as Mabushi heard them. Meanwhile one of the eyewitnesses said all the police did was to flash their lights at the area the shots were being fired. I wasn't there.

Well, I saw multitudes of people (mostly youths)this morning. Even I didn't know we are this plenty in this community. The roads are blocked. Everywhere is on lock down. The youths are saying the police and the check point are useless to us since their friends still ended up dead and injured.

I don't know the news people outside Samaru Kataf are hearing. Someone just called my mum this morning and said he heard that WE are killing people. NO, WE ARE NOT KILLING PEOPLE. PEOPLE WITH GUNS CAME, KILLED/INJURED OUR PEOPLE AND RAN OFF. They had a means of transportation. They knew they couldn't stay. They had to be on transit.

Everywhere is quiet and calm now. Nobody is carrying gun and killing anyone. I hear we have been placed on a 24hr curfew. So, we are here.

I don't know how I feel. No, I know I feel so many things I can't express.

Just like that, someone will sit down and decide who he feels should die or live and he goes about accomplishing that with no one to stop him...

How do you even begin to comfort the families of these young people? My cousin is in the hospital now. Injured for no crime he committed.

I feel many things'

We’ll increase Lagos GDP through entertainment – Ambode
Tasks artistes on structured framework to transform industry
Shina Peters, Adewale Ayuba, Salawa Abeni, Tiwa Savage, others hail Gov

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Tuesday revealed plans of his administration to leverage on the vast economic opportunities in entertainment, tourism and arts sectors, among others to grow the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the State and promote talents in the State to compete globally.

Speaking at Lagos House, Ikeja when he received artistes who performed at the One Lagos Fiesta (OLF), who were on a thank-you-visit, Governor Ambode said the creative industry remained a veritable platform to grow the economy, and that government would tap into it and use it to positively engage the bulging youths in the State.

The OLF, which is an annual end of the year revue put together by the State Government, held simultaneously in five different locations across the State from December 24, 2016 to January 1, 2017, and it was adjudged to be very successful with participation of a-list artistes from different genres of music.

The Governor, who thanked the artistes for their partnership with the State Government, said the OLF was a platform put together by his administration to majorly create awareness about the potentials inherent in the entertainment industry, especially in using it to grow the economy and positively develop talents that abound in the country.

He said according to statistics, the State recorded the lowest crime rate during the period of the OLF, saying that the artists contributed significantly in keeping the city secured and scale up the international rating of the State as a safe place.

He recalled the Project T.H.E.S.E (Tourism, Hospitality, Entertainment, Sports for Excellence) which was part of campaign promises to Lagosians, saying that his administration remained committed to using the initiative as well as the OLF to grow the economy of the State.

He said: “We have a bulging youth population dynamics in Lagos. 66 per cent of our population are below the age of 35 and if two third are of below 35, it means there is an economy in that age bracket that government is not seeing. The OLF was used to test run how to bring people together.

“The issue now is beyond OLF, how do we now take that opportunity to become a catalyst for this partnership? On my part, I want to reiterate my commitment. This is an area I love which is underutilized for the societal development of the country.

“Government is now willing to use your industry to grow its GDP because so far entertainers are working, we would have more visitors coming to Lagos; they will stay in our hotels; they will buy clothes; they will go out in the night and buy our drinks and the ultimate thing is that more taxes come in for the state.

“So, there is a concentric cycle around the energy of entertainers and so what I want is a structured framework. What is it that we should do as government to grow the industry? Why should we go and be doing video shoot in South Africa for instance? I want a win-win partnership not just to use artistes and dump them till another December. I want a year-round partnership that is built around a framework,” he said.

Going forward, Governor Ambode tasked artistes to come up with a structured framework to grow the economy, while government will provide infrastructures and initiatives to help the sector.

“The challenge for our artistes now is to come up with a framework of how government can intervene. We are willing to support and we are willing to draw up a programme to support you but how do you want to fuse into that to make Lagos the entertainment hub in Africa? That is the challenge but I want to thank you for honoring us,” the Governor said.

Many of the big names in the entertainment industry including Queen Salawa Abeni, Adewale Ayuba, Tiwa Savage, Adekunle Gold, Sir Shina Peters, Sound Sultan among others, lauded Governor Ambode for the OLF initiative and his commitment to grow the industry.

Other notable names who were part of the delegation included Folarin Falana (Falz), M.I Abaga, Patoranking, Obesere, Tony Tetuila, Dr Sid, Idris Abdulkareem, Aramide, CDQ, Sulaimon ‘Atawewe’ Adio, Reekado Banks, Humblesmith, Dammy Krane among others.

CrimeHausa Men Attack Villagers In Akwa Ibom Over Stolen Generator (Pics) by broseme(op): 3:01pm On Jan 11, 2017
The peaceful community of Itiam Etoi in Uyo Local Government was on Tuesday night thrown into chaos when a number of Hausa men attacked them, leaving a number of them wounded.

According to a source at the scene of the incident, who preferred anonymity, "the attacks began at about 10 pm when some people had slept. It would have been worse if there were many people on the street. They started cutting anybody they met on their way with machetes. Some of them carried iron rods and other forms of weapons with which they beat and wound people. They also destroyed the properties of people selling shops in the area".

Sources say the incident was caused by a case of a stolen generator which was sold to one of the Hausa men. When the owner of the generator found out that the generator was sold to the scrap collectors, he apprehended them and the case was thought to have been settled until last night.

Sources say the problem started when the man who bought the generator accused his Hausa kinsman of selling him out by reporting him to the owner of the generator. They began to fight. An attempt by an Ibibio man in the area to separate the fight led to one of the fighting parties insinuating that the Ibibio man sided with his brother to beat him. He then went to his people to tell his brothers, who reinforced and went with him to attack anyone they met on the street.

One of the victims, Mr. Itoro, said "I was sitting in front of our house when I saw them running with machetes towards me. But because I didn't have any problem with anyone I was not afraid, only for them to cut me in the face and continued to run on".

Another victim, Mr. Ezekiel, said "I went to see my friend in the area only to see them running towards my direction. Since I did not know there was a problem, I was just walking on the street going back to my house. One of them lifted his machete to cut me in the head and when I blocked it with my hand, he cut my hand again and again. That is when I knew the matter was serious and started running".

The man with the highest level of injuries, Mr. Ubong Okon, said they met him on his way back from work and descended on him. "I sure they wanted to kill me, but God saved my life as some youths who were drinking nearby came to my rescue. I thank God that I am still alive".

When news men contacted the village head of the community, Eteidung Effiong Asikpo, he declined comment. But, the Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Rev. (Dr.)  Ndueso Ekwere, while speaking to journalists called for calm as everything will be brought under control "I want to urge the people to stay calm as the police and the authorities have waded into the matter. I also want to urge all law-abiding citizens to go about their normal duties as culprits will be made to face the full weight of the law".

Meanwhile, youths in the community have declared that they don't want the Hausa men in their community again. The youths who came out in their numbers chanted war songs, calling on the "abokis" to evacuate their communities since they are no more safe in their own land. "Aboki must go... Aboki must go... Aboki must go ..." they chanted.

Meanwhile, some shop owners in the area have closed their shops, fearing another spate of attacks.

The Hausa men have been evacuated from the community by the police to an undisclosed location.

TravelMany Feared Dead As Petrol Tanker & Passenger Bus Collide Along Naze,Owerri(pics by broseme(op): 9:13pm On Jan 06, 2017
News has it that unconfirmed number of persons have been reported dead following a head-on collision between a petrol tanker & passenger bus.

Few hours ago,an eye witness Chigozie Iheanacho wrote on his Facebook wall;

"Happening now at Naze Aba road, Owerri, just after shangrilla hotels ,many confirmed dead!  The express road is a death trap and needs expansion... Government should do something about this, though it was the reckless bus driver's fault.God save your people"

There is no gain saying that, drivers have no reason to be in a haste even as more passengers are built to be returning to the city after the festive season.

It is therefore imperative for passengers not to close their eyes and watch reckless drivers end their lives whereas they should draw attention of such drivers to the avoidable dangers while they over speeding.
