President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari on Monday commissioned series of projects in Lagos State, just as he commended the achievements of the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode administration in one year.



Buhari who was represented at the events by the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, said Lagos under Governor Ambode has continued to maintain its leading role in delivering good governance to the people.


Speaking at the commissioning of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Response Unit in Cappa area of Oshodi, his first point of call, Buhari described the facility as not only the first of its kind in Nigeria, but one that would go a long way to improve response time during emergency situations.




He said, “With this special rescue unit, it is evident that we have moved a notch higher. There is no question at all that this facility is a world class facility.”


The LASEMA Response Unit boasts of an initial acquisition of 51 equipment including three Forklifts, one Crane, 13 trucks, 10 Paramedic Motorbikes, two Fire Trucks, Ambulances, among others.

The Ago Palace Way is a link road that connects about four local governments and providing a viable alternative route for motorists trying to access Festac, Mile 2 and Apapa areas of the State with ease thereby reducing travel time.


At the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, where he handed over security equipment purchased by the State Government to the tune of N1.85billion, the President said that it was a testament to the premium the administration of Governor Ambode has placed on safety of lives and property of its citizenry.

Among the equipment commissioned include 140 brand new Ford Ranger Pick-Ups and 335 Power Bikes fitted with communication gadgets, Helmets, Bullet Proof vests and other kits.


The President said, “I have also seen already so much attention being paid to security and just earlier on we were at the LASEMA rescue operation unit which we just commissioned. Also here, we are about to commission several security equipment donation to the police and security agencies. In fact virtually all the security agencies including immigrations and Customs including NDLEA are to benefit from this latest gift of the Lagos State Government.




He said the State Government was blazing the trail with several commendable projects, including the two roads being constructed in each of the 20 local governments and 37 local council development areas of the State.


“I must also say that I am impressed with the fact that the whole effort at security is an integrated one and so we have the Light Up Lagos being an important component of that whole effort. I want to say that the Governor of this State deserves our commendation and all of the praise and support that he is getting”




He assured that the Federal Government would continue to support the State Government to actualise several projects, noting that the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Lagos-Kano and Lagos-Calabar are projects embedded in the 2016 Budget which would benefit the State immensely.


In his remarks, Governor Ambode said that the LASEMA Response Unit, aside the initial goal to significantly bring down response time by responders, the State Government is working tirelessly to roll out dispatch centres across key areas within the State with the goal of further reducing response times.


Governor Ambode, who also spoke at the commissioning of the security equipment, said it was in further demonstration of his administration’s resolve to strengthen the capacity of the security agencies.


He said the vehicles and equipment would be distributed among the 107 Police Stations and 13 Police Area Commands in Lagos State, and all the security agencies would also be beneficiaries of the equipment.


The Governor said, “These items are critical facilities required to address security and emergency challenges peculiar to modern city States like ours. It is our expectation that all these efforts, in addition to the “Light Up Lagos” initiative and the Smart-City project, will guarantee a safer and more secure environment for business and leisure.”


Governor Ambode also said that aside upscaling the security infrastructure, his administration was also giving attention to the welfare of the security personnel through payment of allowances and provision of insurance facilities to compensate for any unfortunate incident while on active duty.


“In addition, officers and men who demonstrate bravery, gallantry and high level commitment to duty are being acknowledged and appropriately rewarded,” he said.


Responding on behalf of all the security agencies, Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase thanked Governor Ambode for the security equipment, and assured that they would be put to optimal use.


Arase, who recalled that the security equipment was the second donation within six months by Governor Ambode, said the donation has led to the reduction of crime in the State.


He said, “When you (Governor Ambode) gave us the first set of equipment, I did promise you that to whom much is given, much is expected and the officers and men of the Command have worked tirelessly and assiduously to ensure that the crime rate in Lagos is within tolerable limit that will attract foreign direct investment and other investment in the State.


“I can’t thank you enough but I can also promise you today that we are not going to rest on our oars. We will continue to work and ensure that the peace and stability of Lagos State is guaranteed.”

“We want to use the concert to further draw the attention of the international community to the sufferings of our people back home in Agatu and other villages razed by Fulani herdsmen.

“After the protest which shook the nation, we felt there was a need for us to organise a concert to create further awareness.

“Our people have been rendered homeless. Our crops have been destroyed by these cattle breeders. Our children are dying. Agatu is a ghost of itself.

“The peace concert would be used to generate funds for the victims of Agatu crisis".

Other invited guests for the event include senior pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Paul Enenche; former Senate president David Mark; minister of Agriculture, Audu Ogbeh and other prominent Idoma citizens.

Son of the Deputy Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Rivers state chapter, Mr. Peter Odike, has been arrested for alleged killings and kidnappings in the state. In a statement released by Rivers PDP, the opposition party said the arrest vindicates PDP. The statement also urged the army not to sweep the matter under the carpet. Read statement below;


The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, says the confirmed arrest of the son of the State Deputy Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Mr. Peter Odike, by the Nigerian Army is commendable and goes further to vindicate the PDP’s position that leaders of the opposition party in the State, the APC, cannot deny their link and sponsorship of violence and criminality in the State.

The PDP said the arrest of Mr. Odike’s son did not come to the Party as a shocker, and that his reported confession to the crimes would make it easier and quicker for the process of investigation and prosecution by the Army and the relevant security authorities to be concluded.

The Party commended the courage and decision of the suspect in confirming that he was actively being supported by his father, Peter Odike, the APC Rivers Deputy Chairman, describing the action of the APC leader as unpatriotic, shameful, wicked and serious embarrassment to the State.

The PDP said it’s been made to believe that the security agencies are aware of its consistent alerts on the fact that some APC chieftains are hell-bent on causing violence and creating insecure atmosphere in the State, in addition to the charge on their supporters to take up arms against perceived opponents in the State and outright release from detention of hardened criminals who were being charged in court for killings, kidnapping, armed robbery and cult-related activities during the administration of former Governor Amaechi .
The Party calls on the Army authorities not to sweep this particular arrest of Mr. Odike’s son under the carpet but to ensure that thorough process is followed in bringing him to justice to serve as deterrent to others in the State.
The PDP also appeals to other security agencies to redouble their efforts in tackling insecurity, violence and criminality in the State, as it is aware of the frantic efforts the APC leaders are making, apart from the blackmail, to incite, cause violence, insecurity and declaration of state of emergency in the State.

In furtherance of the ongoing efforts to enhance operational effectiveness and service delivery, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has commissioned new sets of facilities in its units at Makurdi and Benin City. Some of the newly commissioned projects were named after deceased personnel who died in the ongoing counterinsurgency operation in Northeast Nigeria. Those honoured with the recent projects are Flight Lieutenant Ebitimi Owei and Flight Sergeant Awodi Emmanuel Adakole who died on 10 October 2015 and 25 August 2015 respectively.

The newly provided facilities in Makurdi include a Bulk Fuel Installation (BFI) with 2,000,000 litres capacity, crew/briefing room for    F-7Ni pilots, 12 units of 3-bedroom flats for Senior Non-Commissioned Officers, and sporting facilities for the use of NAF personnel, family members and host community. Also, a block of 4 units of 3-bedroom flats was commissioned for officers serving at the 81 Air Maritime Group, Benin.

Meanwhile, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Baba Abubakar has called on the beneficiaries of the new facilities to reciprocate the gesture by the Federal Government, who made the necessary funds available for the projects, by rededicating themselves to their duties. Air Marshal Abubakar reminded the personnel that “the whole essence of government’s commitment to their welfare is to bring out the best in them”. He therefore urged them to remain selfless and committed in the pursuit of their assigned statutory duties”. The CAS was represented at both occasion by the Chief of Policy and Plans, Air Vice Marshal James Gbum.

A witness in the ongoing trial of the Executive Director Maritime Labour and Cabotage and the Personal Assistant to the former Director General of Nigeria Maritime And Safety Agency (NIMASA), Patrick Akpobolokemi, today 17/5/2016, told the Federal High Court Lagos how the Executive Director Calistus Nwabueze, used his company to siphon money from NIMASA. At the last adjourned date, the prosecution produced six witnesses out of which PW3 was stood down thereby leading only five individual witnesses.
At the resumed hearing today, witness Ugochukwu Obi, a Special Assistant to the Executive Director, disclosed before the court how a company he owns, Knight and Sheriff, was used by his boss Barrister Calistus Nwabueze to launder several millions of naira to the tune of N61,100,000 (Sixty One Million, One Hundred Thousand Naira) only between March 4, 2014 and May 7, 2015.
Obi confirmed to the court, his knowledge of the Technical Committee for Ratification of MLS 2006. He said in the course of his work with Nwabueze, he usually received withdrawal instructions from the boss to withdraw money from the account of the said Committee which he usually brought back to his boss as directed. He explained that on four instances, Calistus had asked him to make withdrawals of N3,000,000 (Three Million Naira) only on each occasion and paid same into his own account. The case was adjourned to 6th and 8th June 2016 for continuation of trial.

In continuation with the special clearance and rescue operations otherwise known as Operation CRACKDOWN, within the Sambisa forest, troops of 7 Division have yesterday Tuesday, 17th May 2016, cleared Boko Haram terrorists out of their Njimia camp within Sambisa forest.


While advancing earlier in the morning on the same day, the troops also cleared Boko Haram terrorists camps at Alafa, where they encountered heavy resistance from Boko Haram terrorists and killed 15 of them.


The troops continued their advance through Alafa Main , Alafa Extension and Alafa Yaga-yaga, where they cleared remnants of the Boko Haram terrorists hibernating there before arriving at their main objective, Njimia.


Apart from destroying the camps, the troops rescued 41 hostages who were mostly women and children. The troops also recovered 2 Dane Guns, several vehicles, motorcycles and bicycles belonging to the terrorists.


One significant aspect of this feat today was the combination of ground forces assault, Nigerian Air Force Jets provision for combat air support and monitoring of the operation directly by the Acting General Officer Commanding 7 Division, Brigadier General Victor Ezugwu on board Air Force reconnaissance aircraft

Yesterday, the photos of President Buhari meeting with the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, surfaced on social media. This came after the revered clergyman’s statement on the integrity of the Nigerian president.

The heartwarming photos sparked conversation on social media and one of those who spoke out was iconic comedian, Ali Baba. The comedian posted the photos on his Instagram page and cheekily accused the president of trying to ‘Christianise’ Nigeria.

“Buhari is trying to Christianize Nigeria!!!! Look at these pictures,” he said, referencing the old notion that the President would Islamise Nigeria.

Recall that in February of this year, Governor Ayo Fayose, while speaking at an interdenominational thanksgiving in Port Harcourt, accused President Buhari of trying to Islamise the country, a claim he made after the photos of the President in Saudi Arabia surfaced. Gov Fayose called it the ‘big secret’ about the Buhari led, APC government, and said that the President will fail in that effort.

“Why did five of them (state governors) go to Saudi Arabia to wait for our man there (referring to President Buhari) if they don’t have agenda?” The Governor asked, adding, “They have started subtle moves to make Nigeria an Islamic nation, but God will stop them. This was done in 1984, it failed, it would fail again.”

“The agenda is coming small small, but we will resist it,” the vocal politician continued. “Nigeria is a free nation where we proclaim the name of Jesus Christ freely, and we believe in Allah for those who are Muslims. This nation will not be taken for an Islamic nation.”

And so, when the photos of the President and the Archbishop of Canterbury was published, Ali Baba shared same on Instagram with the subtle shade, and his fans caught on quickly. See the reactions above

An Instagram user Uju Stella is currently accusing singer Burna Boy of getting her pregnant. From the statements made in his comment section, Stella insists she had relationship with the reggae-dancehall singer. She claims that after she told him she was with child, he wanted nothing to do with her. And so, she took to calling him out on Instagram.

“Please kindly come and take responsibility for your actions,” she wrote him, adding, “I can’t take the fact that I am expectant and you [aren’t] picking [up] my calls.”

In a different comment, she accuses him of wanting her dead.
