Few days ago,we wrote about late football legend Rashidi Yekini's aged mother who sell bread to sustain herself.Well-meaning Nigerians have started drumming support for the mother of the late football legend.

In a wonderful show of affinity, a small group of Nigerians have set the ball rolling as they have embarked on a humanitarian programme to help the mother of legendary football star, Rashidi Yekini.
According to information shared by Helpline Foundation Abuja, they paid a visit to Yekini's mother and donated gifts to her.Read what they posted below.....

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 arraigned the duo of Air Vice Marshal Saliu Atawodi (retd.), a former chairman, Presidential Implementation Committee on Maritime Safety (PICOMSS), one Rabiu Hassan and his company, Hypertech Nigeria Limited, before Justice U. P. Kekemeke of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja on a three- count charge bordering on conspiracy, abuse of office and misappropriation of public funds.



They accused persons allegedly defrauded the government to the tune of over N600m through suspicious contracts to procure military boats.

One of the counts reads: ‘‘ That you, A.V.M. Saliu Atawodi (retd.), whilst serving as the Chairman of the Presidential Implementation Committee on Maritime Safety and Security (PICOMSS), Rabiu Hassan and Hypertech (Nig) Ltd on or about the 28th day of November, 2011 in Abuja within the jurisdiction of this Honourable court with intent to defraud did conspire to obtain property by false pretence to wit: the sum of Six Hundred and Twenty Million Nine Hundred and Ten Thousand Naira (N620,910,0000 , property of the Federal Government under the pretence that the money represents payment for the supply of six piece of K-38 Armored patrol boats to Presidential Implementation Committee on Maritime Safety and Security (PICOMSS) and which pretense you knew was false.’’

The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to them.

In view of their pleas, the prosecution counsel, Mohammed Bello, asked the court for a trial date.

However, counsels to the first defendant, Karina Tunyan, SAN, prayed the court to grant his client bail pending his trial.

Also, counsel to the second defendant, Shareef Mohammed, urged the court to grant his client bail, maintaining that the defendant, whom he described as a whistle blower, had not jumped the administrative bail granted him by the Commission.

The prosecution counsel, however, had filed a counter affidavit to both bail applications, stating that “I agree that the complainant granted an administrative bail to the defendants and they did not jump bail. However, it is because they do not know what they are up against and bail is at the discretion of the court.

‘‘It is true that the second defendant is a whistleblower, but the EFCC is an investigating agency; it investigates to establish a prima facie case and a prima facie case was established against the second defendant from the proof of evidence.’’

Justice Kekemeke adjourned to May 16, 2016 for ruling on the bail applications and ordered the defendants to be remanded in Kuje Prison.

Nigerians continue to get all the recognition they deserve abroad, the latest being the famous doctor, Bennet Ifekandu Omalu, the man who discovered chronic traumatic encephalopathy (or CTE) after he conducted autopsy on former NFL player Mike Webster.

Yesterday, Ifekandu took to Twitter to announce that he has received a honorary Doctor of Science degree from the Xavier University in Louisiana in the United States, for massive contributions to science.

Bennet Omalu ‎wrote.....

'Got Honorary Doctor of Science degree from Xavier University of Louisiana today. I am deeply grateful and thankful'.

The school detailed his battles with the NFL which tried to discredit his earlier discoveries, Omalu’s refusal to back down, and finally gaining the attention of Hollywood’s Ridley Scott, who proceeded to work on a feature film telling Omalu’s stories with Will Smith starring as the doctor.

Last December, Concussion, the true life story of Omalu’s battles hit the cinemas, with hopes that it would draw attention to the link between the football head injuries and early onset of dementia that could lead to death, and more importantly, how this has continued to be a bone of contention within the NFL. Finally, in March, the NFL admitted that there’s link between football and brain damage.

Now, Omalu is gaining all the recognition he deserves, and as he said on Twitter, “Got Honorary Doctor of Science degree from Xavier University of Louisiana today,” he wrote, adding, “I am deeply grateful and thankful.”

As the International Day of the Midwife is celebrated worldwide, the President of Senate, Bukola Saraki attended and cuddled babies at the Midwifery Conference in Abuja. Saraki congratulated the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the WellBeing Foundation Africa for their contributions in welfare of people.



“As a medical doctor by profession, I personally appreciate the contributions of Midwives in saving lives. Over the years, Midwives have helped to improve the maternal health of the Nigerian woman.
According to available data, the risk of a woman dying as a result of pregnancy or childbirth in Nigeria is still high compared to developed Nations.

As we declare the inaugural international Midwifery Conference in Abuja open, the 8th Assembly under my watch will partner with these organizations and others to provide legislation that will help to strengthen the efforts of Midwives in Nigeria to enable them provide better support for expecting mothers and also to other health practitioners,” Saraki concluded.

On Monday, 4th of May, 2016, the Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Adeniji Kazeem, made it known at the Ministry of Justice Conference room that the DNA forensic Lab agreement has been finally signed. A group of youths popularly referred to as "area boys" attacked and robbed residents of Makera Assada area of Sokoto and in the process assaulted one Mustapha Makera and his son. Mustapha Makera had just returned from Dala orthopaedic hospital where he underwent a surgery to treat his leg which was broken due to an accident he was involved in last year.

The attack left Mustapha and his son wounded due to machete attacks he received from the hoodlums all over his body and that of his son whom he shielded from more attacks. The hoodlums also tempered with the broken leg when they tried to loose the equipments used to aid the treatment which resulted to the undoing of the whole operation.



Wife of Sokoto state governor, Mairo Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has pledged her commitment to take over the case and foot the bills of his treatment and that of his son and has also ordered her aides to facilitate the admission of Mustapha at the Sokoto state Orthopedic hospital, Wamakko.
