VICE PRESIDENT OSINBAJO LEADS NIGERIA'S DELEGATION TO AU SUMMIT IN RWANDA

President Muhammadu Buhari will be represented by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, at the African Union Summit formally opening on Sunday in Kigali, Rwanda.

The 27th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union (AU) is scheduled to hold from 17 to 18 July, 2016, although a retreat of African Heads of State and Governments has been scheduled for tomorrow July 16 ahead of the formal summit opening on Sunday.

The Session has been preceded by the 32nd Ordinary Session of the Permanent Representatives Committee (PRC) and the 28th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the Union at the ministerial level ending today.

The AU summit theme is African Year of Human Rights with a particular focus on the Rights of Women.

2016 is also being celebrated by the Union as the year of Human Rights with the aim of raising awareness on human and peoples’ rights, particularly women’s rights, on the continent and taking stock of progress or efforts made, including major challenges and/or obstacles encountered.

'Despite Lagos State Government’s plan to transform public schools into exemplary places of learning, the students of Immaculate Heart Comprehensive Junior High School are subjected to daily menial jobs whilst they should be busy in classes as early as 9am to 11am.

Instead of employing labourers, the school authority instead orders the students to leave their classes and walk as far as 500 meters to fetch water for the school and teachers as they presently do not have any source of water in their school compound. What is even more scary is that these children who have no sense of danger run into the ever busy Bush Street in Mende where cars move at high speed.

Some of the students said the MAN-NO-WAR in the school usually ask them to go and fetch water for toilet and other use.They also said their Vice Principal is aware, though they said they can’t remember her name.

A resident of Mende Maryland who works in a car wash confirmed that the students come to fetch water from their car wash, he said that the students (including girls) are usually sent out to go and look for water to fetch and they come in batches.

Ironically, Immaculate Heart Comprehensive Junior High School is a stone-throw away from headquarters of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB). SUBEB is in charge of both the Primary education up to the Junior Secondary School level and have a total of 1001-primary schools and 339 Junior Secondary Schools under their purview

Their primary focus is to create a conducive environment for quality teaching and learning through the provision of infrastructure, capacity building and support for Local Government Education Authorities LGEAs in collaboration with stakeholders'.

The leadership of the state chapters in the North West Zone of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by the National Vice Chairman (NW), Amb. Senator Ibrahim Kazaure, today, Wednesday, July 13, 2016 met with the PDP National Caretaker Committee at the temporary Secretariat in Wuse 11, Abuja.

The delegation includes: Chairmen and Secretaries of Kaduna, Sokoto, Zamfara, Jigawa, Kano, Katsina and Kebbi states.

Declaring the Meeting open, Senator Ibrahim Kazaure, pledged their unflinching support and loyalty and promised to work with the National Caretaker Committee led by H. E. Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi, CON.

Senator Kazaure assured members of the Party that Senator Ahmed Makarfi is very efficient to reposition the Party given his track records in Kaduna State as Governor for eight years and also as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The National Vice Chairman reiterated that they are solidly behind the Caretaker Committee and trust that the Committee will organize an acceptable National Convention that will elect new leaders of the Party.

Responding, the Chairman of the PDP National Caretaker Committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi said, "We give gratitude to the Almighty God that all major determination of the Case has remained positive in favour of the decision taken by the National Convention, and that it is not to say that the job is finished. In the past, I have always been saying that the path to peace and reconciliation is dialogue. Legal litigation can resolve issues on legal ground, but as brothers and sisters, there is the need to go beyond that…We will never foreclose the window of dialogue".

The delegation also had members of the Zonal Working Committee and Ex-Officio members of the Zone in attendance .

NIGERIANS ARE YEARNING FOR THE RETURN OF PDP SAYS GOVERNOR WIKE

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has stated that Nigerians are yearning for the return of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, following the failure of the APC to deliver democracy dividends.

Governor Wike further declared that APC will lose the rerun elections of July 30, 2016 in Rivers State, even if Chief John Odighie -Oyegun conducts the elections as returning officer.

Speaking during a solidarity visit by the Grassroots Development Initiative (GDI) Worldwide, Governor Wike said: "It is obvious that Nigerians are yearning for the return of the PDP.

"No amount of intimidation will change the support of the people for the PDP. Nigerians are wiser now".
The governor said his superlative performance in the course of his first year has expanded his support base across Rivers State, making the PDP the preferred choice of the people.

He pointed out that irrespective of the resident electoral commissioner who conducts the rerun elections in the state, the APC candidates will continue to lose because the people understand that the APC cannot deliver development projects.
The governor noted that the APC Senatorial Candidate for Rivers South East promised Ogoni people projects during his sojourn in political office, but delivered none.

He said: "We promised the Ogoni people during the campaigns and today we are dualizing the Sakpwenwa-Bori road and rehabilitating the Birabi Memorial Grammar School, Bori. Therefore, the Ogoni people know the political party that is committed to their welfare ".

He commended the GDI for working with the PDP to ensure the victory of the choice of the people during the 2015 elections.
Earlier, the President General of GDI, Mr Bright Amaewhule praised Governor Wike for using his mandate to improve the living condition of the people.

Fayose's mouth has put him in trouble

EFCC conducting investigation by “trial and error” – Fayose

Ekiti State Government has said that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has promoted its vendetta against opponents of the All Progressives Congress (APC) government of President Mohammadu Buhari, especially the State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose to the level that the anti-corruption agency was now carrying out investigations by trial and error.

The government disclosed that “officials of the EFCC stormed a popular Guest House on Gana Street, Maitama, Abuja today to seal off the property believing that Governor Fayose owned the Guest House only for the EFCC officials to be confronted with the fact that operator of the Guest House leased the property from its owner for ten years.”

In a statement signed by the Special Assistant the State Governor on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, the government said it was only in Nigeria that anti-corruption agency will first arrest suspect before looking for evidences to prosecute the suspect.

The statement read; “Today, the EFCC demonstrated that it has been lying against Governor Fayose and other Nigerians all along by the failed attempt it made to seal off a property located on Gana Street, Maitama, Abuja that is being used as Guest House just because the governor used to lodge there.

“It was at the point of sealing off the property that the owner of the Guest House told the EFCC officials that he only leased the property for ten years from its owner, a former Chief of Defence Staff, who was also a one-time Minister of Defence.

“The EFCC operatives moved to the next building to the Guest House, which is the residence of the retired army general and they were told by the general’s wife that the building being used as Guest House as well the one next to it belonged to the general and not Governor Fayose.

“It is shocking that in its desperate bid to nail Governor Fayose so as to satisfy their paymasters, EFCC is going about claiming that properties owned by other law abiding Nigerians are owned by the governor and the result of this investigation by trial and error by the EFCC is the embarrassment it faced at Gana Street, Maitama, Abuja when its operatives went there to seal off a property belonging to a retired army general thinking that it belonged to the governor.

“That was the same way they told Nigerians that they discovered mansion in Asokoro, Abuja owned by the governor. Unknown to the EFCC, the mansion being referred to is a property rented by the Ekiti State Government and being used as Governor’s Lodge.”

While insisting that whatever properties owned by Governor Fayose were acquired through legitimate means, the statement said like every other Nigerian, the governor reserved the rights to own properties and can also receive money from people to fund his election.

20 Policemen invading Ekiti to arrest govt officials, assembly members, PDP leaders on Monday - Govt alleges

Ekiti State Government has raised the alarm over alleged invasion of the State by Policemen on Sunday, to begin  indiscriminate arrest of top officials of the government, leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as well as members of the State House of Assembly on Monday based on frivolous petitions orchestrated by the All Progressives Congress  (APC) over governorship election that the party lost two years ago.

The government alleged that the 20 Policemen to be led by one ACP Olusola Oke, a native of Isan Ekiti, hometown of the Minister of Solid Minerals, Dr Kayode Fayemi were already in Alagbon, Lagos ready to move to Ekiti by 9am on Sunday in three white coloured Toyota Hummer buses.

In a statement issued by the Special Assistant to the State Governor on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, the government alleged that All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders like Femi Falana (SAN), Senator Babafemi Ojudu, Yinka Akerele and others were coordinating the invasion in their desperation to destabilise the State because of Governor Ayodele Fayose’s perceived opposition to the  inhuman policies of the federal government.

"We have been reliably informed that the latest onslaught against the PDP government of Mr Ayodele Fayose is to begin on Monday, using the police to arrest top government officials, PDP leaders across  the 16 local government areas and members of the House of Assembly.

"ACP Olusola Oke, who is to lead the over 20 policemen to carry out the operation is said to be a native of Isan Ekiti, hometown of the Minister of Solid Minerals, Dr Kayode Fayemi. ACP Olusola Oke is equally the immediate past Assistant Commissioner in charge of Operations and now the AC X-Squad, FCID, Abuja.

"The operation is allegedly being funded by a former governor from the South South while a prominent aide of President Mohammadu Buhari is said to be directly coordinating.

"ACP Olusola Oke will be accompanied by CSP Ayodele, CSP Enang, four Inspectors and others," the statement read.

The government said all attempts by the APC to return to power through the backdoor will fail, adding that the party should rather prepare for 2018 instead of running from the Army, DSS, EFCC and now the police.

The government also cautioned the APC led federal government not to destroy democracy in the country by muscling opposition,  alerting the international community to take note of the danger facing democracy in the country.

Rivers State Governor, Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has charged Moslems in the State to always exhibit religious tolerance and ensure peace, unity and prosperity of the Nation.

Governor Wike gave the charge today, while addressing a delegation of Moslem Community in the State who paid him the traditional Sallah courtesy visit at Government House, Port Harcourt to mark the Eid-El-Fitri celebration.

Represented by his Deputy, Dr. (Mrs.) Ipalibo Harry Banigo, the Governor reminded the Moslem Ummah to see Nigeria as our heritage, stressing that it is the responsibility of all Nigerians irrespective of their religious, cultural and Political differences to ensure that the Country remains a strong entity.

He enjoined religious leaders to proffer solution to some of the social problems facing the Nation, particularly the issue of Security which is impacting negatively on the Nation’s economy.

Governor Wike said that the renewed war on cultists and kidnappers in the State is a deliberate effort by Government to root out criminal elements to create the enabling environment for investment as well as ensure that the People can sleep with their two eyes closed.

He disclosed that the State Government is sponsoring over a hundred Muslim pilgrims for this year’s Hajj as a demonstration of its support for the spiritual revival of Moslem faithful’s in the State.

The Governor who enjoined them to use the occasion of the Sallah celebration to pray for the continued peace, unity and progress of the Country and Rivers State in particular, urged Moslems in the State not to involve themselves in criminal activities as the ongoing onslaught against criminal elements has no boundary.

He commended the Moslem Ummah for the prevailing peaceful co-existence between Christians and Moslems in the State and expressed the hope that the tempo would be sustained.

Earlier in his speech, the Rivers State Islamic Leader and Vice President General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Nasir Awhelebe Uhor, commended the State Chief Executive for his developmental strides within one year as well as the State Government’s resolve to fight the issue of Cultism and Kidnapping in the State.

He conveyed the appreciation of the President General of Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammaad Sa’ad Abubakar to the Governor for his interest in the welfare of Muslims in the State.

Sheriff's agenda to destroy PDP now evident
....alerts members to beware of Greek gifts

The Peoples Democratic Party PDP says its now evident to all discerning minds in the country that its former acting National Chairman is on a designed mission to kill and destroy the party and all its gains in nurturing and sustaining democracy in the country.

The party said intelligence available to it shows that Senator Sheriff in league with some agents of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC having nothing to lose and everything to gain if it helps destroy the PDP has continued to enjoy the support of non PDP members to carry out their nefarious acts.

Interim Spokesman of PDP, Prince Dayo Adeyeye said in a statement issued at the weekend that members of the party across the country are already aware of the evil desires of the former Borno state Governor and have chosen to ignore him.

PDP said that Sheriff and his group have been shopping and approaching law courts with dubious information for interlocutory orders to keep them afloat until it frustrates its gubernatorial elections in Edo and Ondo states as designed by their sponsors.

"Legitimacy in politics is not given through a procured interlocutory injunction but through the mandate of the people and Sheriff and his cohorts will soon realize this.

"We are aware that Sheriff sponsors have urged him to sustain his illicit role for a while and create a semblance of a faction in the party to give
way for some elected PDP members to take the advantage to decamp but unknown to them members of our great party are aware of their game and have vowed to resist them.

PDP then urged the judiciary to be wary of dubious information and always block anything that would diminish their enviable role as the pillar in the sustenance of democracy in the country.

Finally, PDP assured its members that the caretaker committee under Senator Ahmed Markefi remain committed to discharging the assignment given to them by members and have refused to be distracted even as it warns members to beware of Greek gifts being offered by agents whose mission is nothing but to kill this great party.
