On Friday,June 3, 2016, a woman named Fotso Laure Clodin killed her husband, Joseph with a pair of scissors in Douala. According to neighbours, the couple is constantly quarreling. During one of their numerous arguments that same day, the husband asked for the kitchen keys and the wife repeatedly refused to hand them over to him.He tried to forcefully take the keys from her, and she picked up a pair of scissors and stabbed him. Read a statement presented today by Gov. el-Rufai at the event held today below..….. I offer warm greetings to the people of Giwa. Our government team and party leaders are delighted to be in your local government today. We are grateful for your support and your resilience in the face of security challenges. Giwa Local Government area is a veritable breadbasket, and we are undertaking security operations here to ensure that criminal elements do not threaten farming activities or undermine the rural economy. Today, we are delighted to be back here to formally flag-off fertilizer sales for the 2016 farming season. When we performed this ceremony in Kachia on 10th June 2015, we promised to improve on the system of making fertilizer available to our farmers. We stopped the past practice of allocating fertilizer to big men - whether they are the governor, commissioners or traditional rulers, politicians or senior government officials. We directed instead that fertilizer must be sold only at publicly-designated selling points to interested farmers. This was intended to ensure that every farmer in Kaduna, whether big or small, will have equal opportunity to buy at first-come, first-serve basis. All the changes we effected last year could infuse some order and egalitarianism, but only within a context already distorted by subsidy fraud. This year we have gone further. We have pulled the Kaduna State Government out of the waste and fraud of fertilizer subsidy. In its place, we have put our influence and credibility to attract private providers of fertilizer and negotiated a fair price with them on behalf of our farmers. Without putting a kobo of government money, we have made it possible for a farmer to buy fertilizer (NPK and Urea) from private supplies at N4000 per bag this farming season. That is how government plays the role of enabler. Giving the farmer access to a critical input, generating economic activity and saving the government money. We intend going forward to even make this kind of fertilizer sales flag-offs obsolete. Fertilizer should be bought and sold all year round, with government ensuring that that the fertilizer meets quality standards. We have to routinise fertilizer availability, and our success in that will make ceremonies like this unnecessary. Ladies and gentlemen, our commitment to agriculture is a matter of necessity. Our farmers know how to farm, and they provide us comparative advantage. But farm productivity has to be increased, and we need to attract more and younger farmers. We will support the agricultural sector to deliver food and jobs. It is a key investment sector, and a major resource for lifting our people out of poverty. As we bring the big commercial farmers into our state, we will do our duty to support the small farmer. With thriving farms, big and small, Kaduna State will be reinforced as a major Centre for crop and livestock production and processing. It is my pleasure to flag-off the sale of fertilizer for the 2016 farming season. This year’s is predicted to be a short raining season. I wish our farmers a bumper harvest. Thank you all and God Bless. Source: http://www.trezzyblog.com/2016/06/remarks-by-malam-nasir-el-rufai.html

As shared by a Facebook user.He wrote...... 'This is an overflowing refuse bin placed in the middle of Dan Archibong (White House) street in Calabar. This eyesore has been there for more than a week according to residents who say they moved it into the middle of the road since the refuse evacuators have refused to clear the area'. Calabar is adjudged to be one of if not the neatest city in Nigeria. It is not a place where residents can stay and see refuse dumped for some time without acting.

Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has officially unveiled what he called a regenerative plan for Oshodi, the busiest transport hub in the city of over 20 million people, less than a week to his first anniversary. In his key note address on Tuesday, Mr. Ambode at a press conference on the Regeneration of the Oshodi Area at Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja said The proposed redevelopment of Oshodi axis will consolidate all the 13 City and Interstate parks into three multi-storey bus park & terminals situated on 4 floors. The plan involves replacing the confusion in the area with a well designed transport interchange, an iconic, world class transportation and commercial hub. Below is his full statement: Oshodi is arguably the busiest transport interchange in West Africa, with over 5,600 buses spread over 13 different motor parks loading daily. Oshodi has over 200,000 passengers boarding per day, about 1 million pedestrians and 76% of the area is dedicated to transport and related activities. The result of this is chaos, illegal markets, high human and vehicular traffic, environmental and sanitation issues and in recent times serious security challenges. You will agree with me that this Oshodi does not fit into the Lagos of our dreams; a globally competitive Lagos which is clean, safe and prosperous. Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a solution to the Oshodi menace. The Oshodi Interchange you see today will be replaced by an iconic, world class transportation and commercial hub. That is in keeping with the vision of this government to transform the key city centres of the State to reflect the mega city status of Lagos. Many of you would have been aware of the recent demolition of illegal structures and markets in this area. This was not to oppress or deny anybody their livelihood but to start the process of regenerating and recreating Oshodi. Our efforts to redevelop Oshodi is aimed at improving the physical structure, security and more importantly creating the 24hour economy which we promised. The proposed redevelopment of Oshodi axis will consolidate all the 13 City and Interstate parks into 3 multi-storey bus park & terminals situated on 4 floors. Terminal 1, the Mosafejo Market Axis, would be for Inter-state transportation. Terminal 2, former Owonifari Market, and Terminal 3, adjacent to NAFDAC, will be for Intra-city transport activities. These terminals will have standard facilities including waiting area, loading bays, ticketing stands, drivers lounge, parking areas, rest rooms, etc. The development will include accessible walkways and pedestrian bridges/sky-walks to link all the 3 terminals. The development will introduce bus lanes, lay-bys, green parks to soften the environment, proper waste management, fencing and a dedicated security team for Oshodi. When we complete this project, we would have completely rebranded and remodeled Oshodi from a decadent situation to an iconic state. The crime rate in this area will be drastically reduced, if not eliminated. In addition, a shopping mall covering over Two Hectares will be situated in the old Mosafejo settlement. This mall will comprise recreation, entertainment The new Oshodi bus terminal will be delivered with a PPP arrangement. This model allows the effective allocation of tasks and risks in the development of the interchange and also ensures that finance can be easily obtained for the project. I want to commend and thank all the stakeholders that have made this proposal attainable. The market men and women, members of the transport union, NURTW, the traders and management of the various Local Governments and Local Council Development Authorities involved. The regeneration of the Oshodi interchange will definitely redefine the economic outlook of this part of the State. Our goal is to make every nook and cranny of Lagos economically viable and liveable. Thank you.
