That is a good one, but what if no previous statement of that sort was made?

That could equally be a question depending on the circumstances it was asked anyway. It could also mean asking you to lay emphases on what makes you different from others or what is that thing (experiences, skills, achievements, etc) we don't know that will make us hire you instead of the others.

In such case, take your time to tell them your skills or achievements, or anything that will make you stand out.

More opinions are welcome on this.

thanks for your concern. But sometimes there are risks you don't just take. Besides, this is not an interview but an aptitude test. I applied on Friday evening and was called on the phone the following Monday evening to come to Lagos on Werdnesday or Thursday. I was not expecting it too soon. I was also hoping that provision will be made for non-Lagos residents to write outside of Lagos. This am still trying to persuade them to do by calling the number that called me.

If it didn't work, then that is not what God wants for me. Good Luck to those that will make it.

I got a call today from one Moji calling from IBTC Plc inviting me for a test in Victoria Island, Lagos on Wednesday or Thursday by 9am. Iam PH so I told her it is too short a notice for me to travel besides i am financially handicapped.

I asked her if it is for the banking section or the stock broking section which I applied yesterday. She said the latter.

Did anybody got any call like that?

On this GTB issue of sending replies to applicants:
I don't think the online form was set up in such a way that you receive a feed back mail into your box acknowledging the receipt of your application. Or has anybody receive any?

I know for sure that previously if you apply online without any advertised vacancy (that is, unsolicited application) you get a reply to your box acknowledging the receipt of such application and promising to call you if there is need to.

But with this present offer, I don't think it works that way. I Submitted mine and got a blank screen with instructions asking if I want to go back to the form. I supposed it went as I never got any message that I am too young or too old to apply. I am 25 but will be 26 in Sept. A B.Sc (2.1) holder in Business Admin. So I wonder why so many people are complaining.

I will advice you take time and apply and also ensure that the computers and servers of where you browse function well. Cos all these sometimes contribute to the problems we encounter when filling online forms.

Like I said, we are learning and this is a forum for learning and nothing otherwise. Romeo, for you to acknowledge that even when your name was not even mentioned is a great thing and very commendable. Very well, I (also Nairalanders) respect your opinion, for everyone is entitle to that. You have just done the right thing and nothing more. I believe that nairalanders have accepted your apology.

That goes also to tell us that sometimes we think we are doing the right thing until we are corrected and ushered back on track. So nobody is above mistakes and correction (even PHB and INSIGHT). Constructive criticisms makes us better in life and everything we do.

The Book of Proverbs 12:1 says that: He who loves correction loves knowledge; but he who despise correction (discipline) is stupid (Foolish) - Rephrased.

This is my own opinion; an article I wrote to a Christian NGO when asked to.
It might be of interest to the house.


WHY SHOULD THE CHURCH RESPOND TO THE HIV AND AIDS PANDEMIC?

For two decades of heroic lab work, modern science is arm-wrestling with HIV and losing. The promise of a safe and effective vaccine against HIV is almost in the realm of science fiction. More people than ever before are using life-sustaining, Anti-Retroviral (ARV) drugs. But the growth rate of new infections outspaces modern medicine by a wide margin.
The condom-dominant prevention strategy is also failing. Researchers are finding compelling evidence that people who engage in high-risk sex may gain a false sense of security anticipating the supposed benefits that condoms and ARV drugs provide. The infection rate is about 14,000 new HIV cases daily. Right now, over 41 million people are HIV positive worldwide, with a greater half in the African Continent. It is therefore obvious that without the participation of the Church and a renewal of biblical values, drugs and condoms alone will never stop this pandemic.

One will then agree, that a suitable and immediate answer to the question on why should the Church respond to the HIV and AIDS pandemic is, because “Jesus Christ would have done so himself, even far more than we would have expected.” If the Church is the body of Christ and Christ is the head of the Church (Eph.5:23, Col.1:18) and the Church preach Christ, then, it is expected that the Church should act and respond to the pandemic as Christ in his compassionate nature would have responded (Matth.14:14, 20:34, Mark 1:41). Most especially as the pandemic is eating deep into the fabric of the Church – because majority of the affected people are members of the Church (Christians) – and because it is hampering the Church from achieving its main duty of soul winning.

This is so because, the Church can not successfully achieve its mandate of meeting the spiritual needs of the people and winning souls for Christ by neglecting the material, physical, emotional, and psychological needs of its members. While acknowledging first and foremost his mission on earth (Mark 1:38 ), Jesus Christ never failed to realize the importance of healing and feeding people (Mark 1:30 -34, Luke 9:11 -17, Matth 15:32 -38), at the same time preaching the Kingdom of God . Therefore, God’s church must address the HIV/AIDS pandemic and engage every possible resource with courage, commitment, and total resolve.

There are many ways to start. If leaders in our churches talked about the realities of HIV more openly, it would reduce the shame associated with having the virus. If Churches helped people get free, confidential testing with counseling – if churches created within their buildings an open-to-all place of safety and emotional shelter – people with HIV would come to experience the Church as the body of Christ. If Christians through their churches would befriend persons at high risk for HIV infection, those individuals might think twice about engaging in high-risk sexual behaviours. If churchgoers routinely visited people and families with HIV/AIDS, the passionate concern of Christ for the sick would be made real to them.

It is in the same view that, Rick and Kay Warren – pastors and founders of the Saddleback Church in Lake Forest , California – and other Speakers in a conference spoke of the urgent need for the Church to respond to the HIV/AIDS pandemic. In responding to HIV/AIDS, churches should follow the example of Jesus, who cared for the sick, touched them, and healed, Warren said. ”Our responsibility as his followers is to do what he would do and go where he would go.” Kay Warren and other speakers challenged churches to respond to the AIDS pandemic in six (6) main ways, outlined in the acronym C.H.U.R.C.H.:

1. CARE: This is the first step necessary for responding to the plight of those living with the virus. It is proper for someone who wants to follow Jesus’ example. Many Bible verses recorded that Jesus was filled with compassion when he met someone who was sick. He never asked, “How did you get it?” In tangible ways, therefore, Christians (the Church) need to demonstrate and show love (John 13:35 ) and probably adopt the slogan: “Love the Sinner and Hate the Sin” or better still “Love the Victim and Hate the Virus.”

2. HANDLE TESTING AND COUNSELING: In some Nations, Churches could be permitted to administer HIV tests themselves. In other Nations, a Church might host medical professionals to administer the test while church members volunteer to counsel or pray with people being tested. By getting involved in HIV testing, the Church lets the world know that it is not afraid. And when a Pastor is tested, people recognize the Church as a safe place of hope for those who are HIV positive; a place where people can come and meet Jesus.

3. UNLEASHING A VOLUNTEER FORCE OF COMPASSION: Christians must fight HIV because it is an evil virus that destroys individuals and families, Warren said. “It’s not a battle against people”, she said. “It’s a battle against Evil, the enemy of our souls.” The Church needs to get involved because it’s the only group that will last forever. “It’s the Church of Jesus Christ that will outlast every government and business”, she added. To care and exhibit this compassion, churches should be involved in HIV prevention, treatment, care, and support.

4. REMOVE THE STIGMA: Stigmatization (even in the Church) is one aspect that has led to the death (psychologically) of people living with HIV/AIDS before their actual death. One lifelong Nigerian Christian confided in his pastor about being HIV positive. On the next Sunday, he was publicly banished. He said, “A lot of us from the Church are rejected, despised, frustrated by the very Church where we are expected to love [and be loved].” I think the first question a church should ask of someone who is HIV positive is “How can we help?”, and not “How did you get it?”

5. CHAMPION HEALTHY BEHAVIOUR: The Church is called to champion healthy behaviours by promoting sexual abstinence – purity – for the unmarried and strong, mutual faithful marriages. It should also promote people getting tested to know their HIV status for healthy choices. This can only be achievable through constant information dissemination. Pastors should talk with their congregations about abstinence and sex, inculcating biblical values in members and letting people know that God has a plan for sexuality that can be learned and lived out within and outside the Church.

6. HELP WITH NUTRITION AND MEDICATION: If the Church is to be pro-life, then it has an obligation to preserve life by assisting people to get the food and medicine they need. When food needs are not met, those who are HIV positive get sick more quickly. And though most of the world has no access to antiretroviral medications, those with medications often fail to take them because of the difficult side effects. To take the medications, they need a community of supportive people around them.

ONE CHURCH, ONE DISEASE.

Taking for example what one organization has done to defeat one disease. Rotary International has been fighting Polio since 1979. It has developed a global volunteer force to partner with health agencies to eliminate a single disease. In 1988, there were 350,000 Polio cases. At the end of 2005, there were 1,670 cases worldwide – better than a 99 percent reduction.

There are 1.2 million Rotarians around the world. Then, imagine what 2 billion Christians might accomplish as one faithful force against one disease. Imagine the possibilities for proving church-mocking skeptics wrong. Imagine closed doors opening for the gospel. Imagine lives saved. A world in the ever-tightening grip of HIV doesn’t stand a chance without us – The Church. Otherwise, if members of the church suffers because of its inaction, the Church suffers too (1 Corinth 12:26 -27).

Finally, in the words of Christ to his followers (the Church), he said, “You are the light of the world – like a city on a mountain, glowing in the night for all to see. Don’t hide your light under a basket! Instead, put it on a stand and let it shine out for all. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” (Matthew 5:14-16, NLT).

I was at the office of ICSL in PH today with a friend who invited me. On getting there I was told that they don't conduct test or recruit B.Sc. holders for Access Bank, only HND holders. So I was turned down because I have B.SC Business Admin - 2.1. But the lady asked me to go and submit my CV at Access bank's regional office. Meanwhile, my friend was allowed and test conducted for him because he has HND. Already, I have submitted my CV at Access bank.

According to what my friend told me, before the test you will have to fill in your particulars in their databook in which a column was created for you to fill in the name and phone no. or address of the person who referred you to that place. He actually gave me the name of another friend of his who now works in GTB through the same ICSL as my own referee. What this implies is that you have to know someone to sail through ICSL. But I can not prove it.

In all this, I still believe that with God all things are possible, just do your best and sometimes your performance will speak for you. Therefore, If you stay in PH and you are interested. Do either of the following:

B.Sc Holder, 2.1:
Go to Access Bank in Olu-Obasanjo Road, Before SKYe bank and submit your CV there for they are accepting Cvs now. Go up stairs and ask of Ifeanyi. If you have less than 2.1, also give it a trial but am not too sure.

If you are an HND Holder:
I dont know of grades. Go to ICS Limited, No. 9 Ohaeto Street, D/line, Behind the ECO Bank along Aba Road, Before Garrison Bus-stop, PH. First floor by the right. Go with you original credentials, birth cert or age decleration, writing materials and a passport photograph. I don't know of other days but certain of Thursdays. They will immediately conduct a test for you if you are certified, whether you are the only one or not. If you are asked who referred you, tell them you went to Access Bank and Ifeanyi directed you there.

Give it a trial: with God all things are possible.

That is why we need to get better

Someone said that criticism ( constructive ones) helps you become better.
I also believe that anything worth doing is worth doing well. Whether in Igbo, Yoruba, or Hausa; locally or internationally. If you want to go local, do it well; if you want to go pro, do it professionally well too.

The ad is great, but if mistakes are noticed and pointed out it is to make them better.
Aloofaa has noted those errors, especially that of the use of Air product because he has a good eye for good adverts. If tomorrow that ad wins another award in the country, don't we think that Nigerians will be laughed at if it goes international.

As for the grammar, I want to view it from the perspective that SPORA looked at it even though I have not seen it.
Most times communication is breached because the audience could not align their perspective with that of the speaker in order to get the message passed acrossed; whether with the use of Nouns in place of Verbs and vice versa or not( going by the instances given by Spora). English language is dynamic, so is the grammar that we speak. Things change everyday.

For those that use this medium to abuse and insult one another, you better desist from such. It is uncalled for to beef one another over things that does not really concern you. What is PHB and Insight Communications got to offer you for beefing yourselves? We are bound to disagree on issues but not to the length of raining abuses on one another. Handle issues maturely and avoid threads and posts that might provoke you.

It is better pay and packages are tied to performance than just being there on paper. If you have the stamina to put in extra effort to earn it good and fine. When earned it should be paid. And not when it is written on paper without implementation, that will be devastating.
