Speak Words That Promote Wholeness Thu, 16 Jun 2022 ‘You have been trapped by what you said.’ Proverbs 6:2 Stormie Omartian says: ‘Early in my walk with the Lord I spoke many negatives… “I’m a failure,” “I’m ugly,” “Nothing ever goes right,” “Nobody cares about me,”… Then the Holy Spirit spoke to my heart… “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” (Proverbs 18:21 NKJV) I had been speaking words of death, not life. One clear example had to do with my speech problems. I’d had them since childhood and was teased about them all through school. When I was old enough to afford professional help, I worked with a speech therapist… I practised day after day, year after year, to gain… little improvement… I still lost my voice… halfway through each speaking engagement… “I’ll never be able to speak right,” I cried… But as I spoke those words… the Lord said “You’re bringing death to your situation because you’re not speaking the truth… Do not speak what you think… or what seems to be truth… speak what you know to be the truth of My Word… ‘The stammering tongue will be fluent and clear’ (Isaiah 32:4 NIV)… ‘I have put My words in your mouth.’” (Isaiah 51:16 NKJV)… Soon after, when I was asked to speak at a women’s meeting, I took my fears to God and spoke His truth instead of voicing my own negative opinions. My talk went so well… an entire speaking ministry opened up… The Bible says, “You are snared by the words of your mouth.” (Proverbs 6:2 NKJV) That includes your self-talk… wipe out words of hopelessness, doubt, and negativity from your vocabulary. They may seem harmless but they affect your body and soul… Speak words that reflect the wholeness you desire.’ |

Unconditional Joy Wed, 15 Jun 2022 ‘Be completely filled with joy.’ 1 John 1:4 When joy is absent from your life, power is also missing (see Nehemiah 8:10). Our happiness shouldn’t be based on what’s happening around us; it should be dependent on our relationship with Jesus. John says, ‘We can be completely filled with joy.’ (1 John 1:4 GWT) Pastor Reimar Schultze notes: ‘John did not say this when all was well, but when… everything had turned to shambles. (1) All his fellow apostles had been murdered. (2) Rome had destroyed the temple [so]… not one stone was left upon another. Flavius Josephus, an eyewitness wrote, “The multitude of those that… perished exceeded all the destructions men or God ever brought upon the world.” (3) Many Jews and Christians became refugees. Average life expectancy was about forty years and 25 per cent of the people in Rome were slaves. (4) John himself lived as a condemned criminal on the Isle of Patmos. He had no earthly comforts… no assurance of living another day. When the cup of misery was full, God commissioned him to show the world the absolute power and triumph of Christianity over everything… His writings, in reference to our daily walk, put a capstone on all that Heaven intended to reveal in the Word: if we have apostolic fellowship, our joy will be full. You do not need pleasant circumstances for this to happen.’ The psalmist said it best: ‘In Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.’ (Psalm 16:11 NKJV) |

Who Advises You? Tue, 14 Jun 2022 ‘Listen to advice and accept discipline, and at the end you will be counted among the wise.’ Proverbs 19:20 You may be good at what you do. Indeed, you may be better than most, but without the help of others you will never be as good as you could be. You will never reach your highest potential without a good adviser. It’s impossible. Why would a world-class tennis player need a coach, especially one who is not as good on the court as he or she is? André Agassi answered the question this way: ‘Tennis requires subtle adjustments crucial to winning and my coach, Gill, is the best at making them. The older I get, the more valuable he becomes.’ Why is that? Because age and experience don’t necessarily make you better; often they just deepen the rut you’re in. In life, as in sports, you never reach the point where you don’t need good input. Yet many of us operate under the misguided assumption that, because we lead, we don’t need to be led. We make the mistake of measuring ourselves against others instead of our own God-given potential and in the end we never become what we could have been. Self-evaluation is important, but the evaluation of others is crucial. A good coach measures your performance against your strengths, not somebody else’s. That’s because he or she knows what you’re capable of and they will push you to your limit. And by the way, good coaches are constantly on the scene observing, not back at the office waiting for a report. That’s because they are personally invested in your success; a win for you is a win for them. Ruth needed Naomi and Timothy needed Paul. Who advises you? |

How To Build A Great Marriage Monday 13th June 2022 ‘Place yourselves under each other’s authority out of respect for Christ.’ Ephesians 5:21 GWT If you want a great marriage, you’ve got to work at it every day. The Bible gives us God’s blueprint for one: ‘Place yourselves under each other’s authority out of respect for Christ. Wives, place yourselves under your husbands’ authority as you have placed yourselves under the Lord’s authority. The husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the Head of the church. It is His body, and He is its Saviour. As the church is under Christ’s authority, so wives are under their husbands’ authority in everything. Husbands, love your wives as Christ loved the church and gave His life for it. He did this to make the church holy by cleansing it, washing it using water along with spoken words. Then He could present it to Himself as a glorious church, without any kind of stain or wrinkle-holy and without faults. So husbands must love their wives as they love their own bodies. A man who loves his wife loves himself. No one ever hated his own body. Instead, he feeds and takes care of it, as Christ takes care of the church. We are parts of His body. That’s why a man will leave his father and mother and be united with his wife, and the two will be one. This is a great mystery. (I’m talking about Christ’s relationship to the church.) But every husband must love his wife as he loves himself, and wives should respect their husbands.’ (Ephesians 5:21–33 GWT) That’s how to build a great marriage! |

God’s Faithfulness To You Sun, 12 Jun 2022 ‘If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot disown Himself.’ 2 Timothy 2:13 Here is something you should be very glad about: God’s faithfulness to you doesn’t depend on your faithfulness to Him. The Bible says, ‘If we are faithless, He remains faithful.’ Your mistakes may take you out of God’s will, but they will never place you beyond His reach. Catherine Marshall tells of a great personal struggle she experienced after writing a novel titled Gloria. She began the book in 1969 and abandoned the project two-and-a-half years later. To her, the shelved manuscript was like ‘a death in the family’. Attempting to reconcile her conflicting thoughts and feelings, she spent time at a retreat house. And while there, she reread the Bible story from Numbers about a time when poisonous snakes filled the Israelite camp. The people recognised the snakes as punishment for their sin, and cried out in repentance. The Lord told Moses, ‘Make a [bronze] snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live.’ (Numbers 21:8 NIV) Catherine realised that just as the Israelites took that which had hurt them, lifted it up to God, and were healed, we can take our mistakes and sins, lift them up to God in prayer, and trust Him to heal us. She writes, ‘When any one of us has made a wrong (or even doubtful) turning in our lives through arrogance, lack of trust, impatience, or fear—God will show us a way out.’ Even when you stray, God loves you so much that He will draw you back to Himself again. ‘If we are faithless, He remains faithful.’ |

You Must Tell Your Children Sat, 11 Jun 2022 ‘Tell it to the generation following.’ Psalm 48:13 Here is a sobering verse: ‘Another generation arose after them who did not know the Lord.’ (Judges 2:10 NKJV) How did it happen? Their parents failed to tell them. Read these three Scriptures carefully and prayerfully: (1) ‘Tell it to the generation following. For this God is our God for ever and ever: He will be our guide even unto death.’ (Psalm 48:13–14 KJV) (2) ‘We will not hide them from their children, telling to the generation to come the praises of the Lord.’ (Psalm 78:4 NKJV) (3) ‘One generation shall praise Your works to another, and shall declare Your mighty acts.’ (Psalm 145:4 NKJV) You say, ‘We need better government.’ Perhaps, but governments don’t raise children, parents do. You say, ‘We need better school systems.’ Maybe, but schools don’t raise children, parents do. As a parent, you’re called to govern your own home. As a parent, you’re called to educate your children in the ways of the Lord. You get the first bite of the apple! So give your children deep spiritual roots, starting as early as possible. Will they rebel? Possibly; the Prodigal Son came from a good home and he rebelled. But he ‘came back’, because he had memories and values to return to. Approaching the end of his life, Joshua called the nation’s leaders together and said, ‘You yourselves have seen everything the Lord your God has done.’ (Joshua 23:3 NIV) Then he instructed them to tell their children. Did they do it? No. And what was the end result? Their sons and daughters ended up adopting a sinful lifestyle. Don’t let that happen to your children. |
It's such a fair deal. Congratulations |
Prove Yourself Faithful Fri, 10 Jun 2022 ‘There is no other god who can deliver like this.’ Daniel 3:29 The story of the three Hebrew children in the fiery furnace teaches us these four lessons: (1) Doing God’s will can land you in trouble. Don’t expect the world to appreciate you. Look at Jesus: ‘In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.’ (John 1:4–5 NKJV) (2) God will be with you in your trouble. When Nebuchadnezzar looked into the fire, he said, ‘I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.’ (Daniel 3:25 NKJV) Instead of destroying them, the fire destroyed the ropes that bound them, setting them free. Be encouraged! It may look like circumstances have you locked in, but God is going to vindicate you and bring you out victoriously. (3) It’s your trouble that produces your testimony. People are watching you. The things they’re trusting in don’t work, and they’re wondering if what you’re trusting in does. Your faithfulness to God and His intervention on your behalf will touch their lives in ways your theology never will. Everyone in Babylon knew what the Hebrew children believed. But they wanted to know, ‘Does it work when you’re in the fire?’ It does! (4) The greater your trouble, the greater your blessing. ‘Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego in the province of Babylon.’ (Daniel 3:30 NKJV) Here is a Scriptural principle you can count on: when you prove yourself faithful in times of trouble, God will promote you to higher levels of blessing. |

Will You Wish You Had Given More? Thu, 9 Jun 2022 ‘God loves a cheerful giver.’ 2 Corinthians 9:7 The film Schindler’s List tells the story of one man’s efforts to do good in a desperate situation. As the director of a munitions factory in Poland, Oskar Schindler decided to use his position to save Jewish lives. By employing them in his factory, Schindler rescued many condemned Jews from the gas chambers. But keeping them employed was costly, and little by little he liquidated his personal property to keep his business afloat. At the end of the story, the Nazis are defeated, and the full impact of Schindler’s efforts is revealed as the dead are counted and the living stagger back to freedom. In one scene, kneeling by the railroad tracks that had carried thousands to their deaths, Schindler had a startling realisation. He could have saved a few more! Overwhelmed with regret, he laments keeping the few personal assets he still owns. If only he had known when the war would end, he would have done more. Now it was too late. Oskar Schindler was a hero. He saved over a thousand Jews during World War II. But interestingly, all he could think about was what he didn’t do. He wished he had done more. A powerful lesson in Schindler’s story is this: even joyful givers will look back on their lives and wish they had done more. There are also others who gave less than they could have given, or who never gave at all. Can you imagine their thoughts as they stand before God, giving an account of how they used their resources and to be rewarded accordingly? ‘God loves a cheerful giver,’ so today look for opportunities to give. |

Keys To Answered Prayer (4) Wed, 8 Jun 2022 ‘Let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God.’ Hebrews 4:16 Boldness. Boldness isn’t arrogance, presumption, or a sense of entitlement. It’s confidence based on who you are in Christ. Paul writes, ‘Let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive His mercy, and we will find His grace to help us when we need it most.’ (Hebrews 4:16 NLT) As God’s redeemed child, you have a right to approach Him at any time. And understanding that enables you to overcome Satan’s attempts to make you feel unworthy. It removes your natural inclination to say, ‘I know God can do it, but it’s hard to believe He will do it for me.’ You think like that when you feel unworthy. But the glorious truth is—Jesus has made you worthy! (See Colossians 1:12.) Note also, ‘We will find grace to help us when we need it most,’ and grace is simply undeserved favour. In other words, God will give you what you don’t deserve when you’re confident enough to ask Him. Plus, you’re asking in Jesus’ name, not your own. You’re presenting to the Father all that Jesus is, not all that you are. And here is another thought: when you have hidden sin in your heart, you can’t pray with confidence. Unconfessed sin locks you in and shuts God out (see Psalm 66:18). But the good news is, when you ask God to reveal your sin, He will. And when He does, you must deal with it if you want to keep the lines of communication open. If God reminds you of a situation in which you didn’t do the right thing, don’t try to sweep it under the rug. Acknowledge it, receive His forgiveness, and then you can pray with confidence. |
Keys To Answered Prayer (3) Tue, 7 Jun 2022 ‘When you do pray, your prayers are not answered, because you pray just for selfish reasons.’ James 4:3 Right motives. The reason you pray is much more important than the words you say. The motive is the why behind the what. And having a pure heart that loves God and loves people is always acceptable to the Lord. On the other hand, selfishness is unacceptable, revenge is unacceptable, manipulation and control are unacceptable, jealousy is unacceptable, pride is unacceptable, and praying to win the lottery is unacceptable. In fact, anything that’s selfishly based is an unacceptable motive. Somebody once asked a little boy if he said his prayers every night. He thought about it for a second and replied, ‘No, some nights I don’t need anything.’ Sound familiar? The first and foremost reason for prayer is to develop an intimate relationship with God. Think about it: how long do you think your marriage would last if you only came home to see your spouse when you needed clean laundry, a good meal, and a little loving? Not very long, right? The same principle applies to prayer. Jesus said, ‘If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.’ (John 15:7 NKJV) When you focus on ‘abiding’ in Christ, you will get a response to your ‘asking’. James writes, ‘Your prayers are not answered, because you pray just for selfish reasons.’ The truth is, we’re innately self-centred. That’s why we need to purify our hearts on a regular basis—and that calls for examining our motives. It may be painful at first, but you must do it if you want to see your prayers answered |
