When will a police chief ever resign in Nigeria
You sound like this was his first posts and his resignation was voluntary but I know you are far more sapient than that.

To answer your question, when we the Nigerian people make a police officer resign just like public opinion of the Americans made Lang Holland resign and as we made Babangida resign, and if they don't resign we fire them with our democratic vote like trump was fired! We just need to understand that......

A reminder of what Nixon went through despite resigning.

Spanberger’s view was echoed by Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) on “Meet the Press”: “I don’t think the American people want to sign up for the Green New Deal. … I don’t think they’re interested in Medicare-for-all or higher taxes that would slow down the economy.” But this diagnosis is at odds with the numbers. A near-majority of voters in swing districts supported the Green New Deal. Fifty-three percent of Americans support Medicare-for-all (and 70 percent support a public option). In exit polls, 57 percent of voters expressed support for Black Lives Matter. In Florida, while moderate Democrats up and down the ticket fell flat, voters passed the $15 minimum wage that the left has been pushing for years. As Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) observed, every swing-district House Democrat who co-sponsored Medicare-for-all kept their seat.

I used to believe this as well, but I'm not longer convinced by the idea. Most people who voted for Trump had been white men and women and I bet most Latinos who did, had been white passing. The percentage between people with and without a college degree wasn't that drastic.

I believe white people can afford voting for a person like Trump. I mean, let's be honest who is president doesn't affect them much. Politics will aways favour them. Minorities are usually the ones asking themselves, will it favour us too?
Most people who voted Biden were white too and in fact more of them than voted for trump. And it very much seems to affect white people when a black person is beat by police as we saw with whites yelling "Black Lives Matter", and that's apart from Roe v Wade, so I think politics very much affects them. You just need see how rejoicefully they are dancing on the street after collectively affecting trump.

I'm going to wait for proper demographics on this election. The polls have taught me there's often noise, but education is not "college degree". In UK, we teach it in kindergarten at age 3. Below is some parents saying, "don't teach it to my child!"

Well it's a progression and America is not ready for it at this stage. Let some older people pass on first and the new generation may be open to these ideas in 30-40 years like Obalgwe1 stated. You can't rush anything in life. These ideas were illegal just 60 years ago under McCarthyism so you have to give it time. Europe was able to implement these ideas immediately after the 2nd World war because many people had lost family and assets and that changed their orientation about what they expect from the State. America did not go through that experience so it would require the passing of time, more international travel and exposure to open them up to such ideas.

Right now the wolf at the door is Fascism/Trumpism and that's what the far left needs to help avoid by producing a centrist candidate from their party, otherwise the country will swing even further away from their goal
They embraced Roosevelt's very socialist New Deal in 1933 until Truman usurped it in '47 with what is now known as McCarthyism. Still, social security cheques better not be late, plus covid19 so can't work, no healthcare nor money for rent. As we say where I'm from, Ijesa is not hungry so refuses to eat ẹkọ Oyo. When hungry catch Sule he'll eat monkey.

The left wing democrats (the squad people) can only win in inner cities. They can't win in middle America, and if the Democratic party goes their way, they will never win on National level. Pelosi has done a good job managing them not to become the face of the party. It is never a good idea for a party to go too extreme if they want to succeed. Any middle class person with assets to protect will always vote against a hard jerk to the left. Na students and poor people dey vote extreme left for the most part. I've been supporting Conservatives in UK for most of the last decade due to Jeremy Corbyn and Ed Milliband going too far left in the Labour Party, while the Conservatives presented moderate options in Cameron and Theresa May. From 2000-2010 I was a natural Labour supporter cos their candidates (Tony Blair and Gordon Brown) were moderates. If you give the average centre-left citizen a choice between far-left and centre-right, he will go centre-right.
I, on the other hand, was behind Cobyn as most of what was said of him was mischaracterisation like they mischaracterize Sanders by labelling him socialist. He just got suspended from the party for 'antisemitism', a word used to define anyone who says anything against Israels apartheid of the Palestinians.

UK does not do extreme left and no party leader would go there, nor in US where they can't differentiate it from communism, but I would not be surprised if unions return to America and healthcare becomes free for all. Trumpism has shown education should be free too so people do not become deplorables.

Let's hope what you wrote up here is true for a better world, but I feel the voters determine the posture of the politicians and too many GOP voters are loonies at present. I still remember how Tea Party conducted a sweep of all moderates in the party some years ago in subnational elections.
And then the tea party just kind of died off before the election that followed. We had Momentum behind Corbyn over here in UK trying to beat Boris, but just last week was he suspended from the Labour Party.

The 'party' is usually made up of coalitions of diverse groups which trump pulled together with populism. Now he's gone (and trust me he's so gone he's Alex Jones gone - and don't you argue his crazy is not fringe), wearing maga hats will be like wearing a white hood, and I promise we will be cancelling their asses by beating them up in the streets! I'm so glad it's red so can't miss it.

@ bolded, funny you should say that seeing as non of the so called socialist democrats or justice democrats as they like to be called lost their seats instead system democrats or corporate beholden democrats are the ones loosing their seats! The ones voters can't differentiate from republicans in terms of policies and politics while every justice democrat that successfully scales through the stumbling blocks set by the democratic party in their primaries wins their elections. It is funny you should equate democrats who want politicians to be actually accountable to their voters instead of lobbyists and special interests groups to the Republican tea party and their previously fringe but now mainstream lunatics like trump. I think you are being economical with the truth here! The democrats have this opportunity to embrace the current young generation who will make up the majority of the voting populace in a decade or two and their liberal worldview now or lose that franchise to another party that will embrace them! Paying attention to Republican talking heads is allowing the opposition frame your position for you and that is just plain stupid
That last paragraph is why I could not respond to his. Fine job you done. Thanks.

Most politicians cannot oppose Trump openly for fear that they will lose. Just like Democrats cannot condemn antifa and the far left. They need them for votes. Its the same reason Nigerian politicians in every region cannot openly condemn OPC, Miyetti allah, IPOB or MEND regardless of how crazy and illogical they are
Romney can only do that because it doesnt affect him in votes, he is in Utah where his mormon roots will work for him, also he is not due for reelection till 2024 after Trump would have gone.

Trump controls the party because the president whoever he is becomes the defacto leader of the party who control a sizable followership just like Biden had to embrace the Sanders people. Once Trump leaves the owners of the party will take over their party from the ruins. They have to queue behind Trump for now because they need his crazies to regain the Senate in runoff elections in January. Assuming Trump was blown away and lost bigly the real Republicans will come out. Trumps people cut across both parties. And with the nature of democracy you need every vote

All the FBI guys indicting him for Russia are Republicans, Georgia governor and SOS are Republicans

After Biden inauguration I believe the party owners will come out again

See the tweets from Bush, Jeb Romney and many prominent Republicans
In 2016, 12% of Sanders supporters voted Trump and about 20% sat out the general elections
This is more like it.

You are too optimistic, intact blinkered by optimism. Trump controls the Republican party machinery currently and either him or his appointee will control it in 4 years. To show how much the GOP is in hock to the loonies, Romney is currently the only elected GOP member on National level to congratulate Biden and ask Trump to step down. The rest are too scared of what Trumpets will do to them for going off message.

The democrats have also come close to losing control of the party to the left, but each time manage to produce a centrist candidate.
Scared of does not mean he controls. Trump family are already complaining no gop support, and he's running out of money.

If nothing else damns him, his very unsporting behaviour sure will, especially to those weened on basket and baseball. I predict they throw him under a bus in the next few days, till then, watch out for Republicans yelling, "concede"!

I fear the horse has bolted for the GOP. I do not see moderate politics ever returning to the GOP, although they may slightly improve from the Trump years. This started with Sarah Palin in 2008, followed by many moderates being chased from the GOP by the Tea Party. Trump jumped on this groundswell and actually launched his Republican career off the back of the Obama birther conspiracy lie which gained so much traction that Trump found his next con in this group of Tea Party people who prefer lies and falsehoods to Truth. I need not tell you that the preparation for supremacist ideas start with the disregard of truth. It is eerily reminiscent of the Nazi party in the 1920s which started with small scale demonisation of Jews (read Mexicans and Muslims) but the underlying similarity between both movements is the total disregard for truth. That's why far-right conspiracy channels like Alex Jones and co have gone majorly mainstream.

I agree with the poster earlier who said America is on a dangerous precipice if half the population have no regard for truth, underpinned by supremacist ideology.

Shout out to the Bushes, Mitt Romneys, John McCains etc. They will be the last of the moderate Republicans to taste power within the GOP for a long time.
Palin, her tea parties and the self-centred ideology of Ayn Rand promoted by Hitler's tactics.

America, thankfully, does study history, and have learnt to write it down for future study. The next few years will stuff so much on telly and in the cinemas ridiculing trump that it would be very difficult to maga in the next hundred or so years. GOP might win again soon if they don't shed their trump branding, but after one more go of maga they might not taste power in America for a long long time. If even Saudi is liberalising, and Iranians and N.Koreans dream and clamour for liberty, America can hardly be tacking far right back to slave times, unless there's something we missing I guess.

I'm going to miss trump. I was so looking forward to the attack on Roe v Wade.
