Christianity EtcMuslims Fundraise to Restore Black Churches Destroyed By Fires in America by bukster(op): 1:10am On Jul 08, 2015
A group of Muslim organizations in the US have launched an online campaign to raise funds to help rebuild the eight black churches that burned down in Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida, Ohio, and Georgia after the June 17 deadly shooting in a Charleston, South Carolina church.
“To many it is clear that these are attacks on Black culture, Black religion and Black lives,” says the campaign’s website, organized by MuslimARC, the Arab-American Association of New York, and Ummah Wide, a digital media startup focused on Muslim issues. “We want for others what we want for ourselves: the right to worship without intimidation, the right to safety, and the right to property.” Three of the fires have been ruled as arson by investigators, one was caused by a lighting and the others under investigation to determine the cause.
Since launching on July 2, the Respond with Love campaign’s more than 500 supporters have already surpassed its $20,000 funding goal, reaching roughly $23,000 as of this posting. The initiative will continue through July 18, with money going to churches based on need in consultation with pastors and church leaders, according to the campaign.
California-based imam and Muslim scholar Zaid Shakir wrote the following to explain the motivation for the campaign:
The American Muslim community cannot claim to have experienced anything close to the systematic and institutionalized racism and racist violence that has been visited upon African Americans. We do, however, understand the climate of racially inspired hate and bigotry that is being reignited in this country. We want to let our African American brothers and sisters know that we stand in solidarity with them during this dark hour. As a small symbol of that solidarity, during this blessed month of Ramadan, we are gathering donations to help rebuild the seven churches that have been burned down since the racist murders in Charleston, South Carolina.

Sweetlemon:
Honey Muslims WILL NOT bomb other muslims, not even Christians during ramaddan. They don't shed blood during ramaddan. Ramaddan is the most holy of holies time for Muslims. For instance look at terrorism in the world as a whole, how many times has ISIL abi ISIS struck since ramaddan?
These beasts, BH, are NOTMuslims.
And ISIS is!? You're not helping the Islam is a reliogon of peace argument with this. ISIS was the one who called for renewed terror this Ramadan and since BH is now the west African arm of ISIS, it obeyed. ISIS has also taken responsibility for the Tunisia Beach attack last week that killed almost 40 foreigners.
BH and ISIS may not be Muslims but they are using Islamic teachings to justify their actions. They're attracting misguided youths by making them believe that their actions are somehow part of a noble religious cause. They attack other religions specifically and force them to convert to Islam or be killed. They attack and try to assassinate Muslim clerics that preach peace between all Muslims.
Boko Haram and ISIS may not represent the beliefs of a majority of Muslims but it is still a sect of the Islamic religion. One that is very dangerous and needs to be stopped. The sooner other Muslims accept responsibility for the creation of these two groups, the faster they can be stopped.

I commend the Igbo governors for doing this. If th FG had sent Boko Haram prisoners to my region, I would hope that my governors would have done the same thing. It doesn't make sense to bring the Boko Haram mess to the SE, especially when it seems that the FG hasn't taken much needed precautions. The prison is not a maximum security prison and it is much too close to residential areas. It could spell disaster for Anambra state if the prisoners were broken out.

A Northerner that is able to admit their mistakes. That is rare but I am happy to see it. The sooner northerners realize their mistakes and understand that most of the blame for Boko Haram's creation belongs to them, the sooner they can take steps to try and correct the flawed practices of their society.
The reason that Chad, Niger and Cameroon are not as affected by Boko Haram is not because they're not poor because of they definitely are but because the only people they blame for their poverty is themselves not others from a different region.

Ever since the CBN governor suggested that we should sell the Niger Delta oil reserves to foreign companies to fund our economy now, I haven't been able to trust him.
With Nigeria's current corruption rate it would have been madness! He would be selling out the future of Nigeria to a few high ranking politicians.
Some of his policies of the late have not seem advisable and I also believe he should be replaced. I don't care who he is replaced with or what tribe he of she is from, I just want that person to be competent.
PoliticsRe: Radio Biafra Is Gaining Relevant Sahara Reporters by bukster(f): 3:08am On Jul 05, 2015
There is so much hate and tribalism on this thread!
I am Yoruba and I believe in one Nigeria but if igbos really want to leave I can't stop them. I just ask them to do it peacefully and/or through a referendum. War is not a joke and I don't want to have to fight a war with my neighbours and friends. I also hope that the Director would cease with all his hate mongering. If he wants to speak the "truth" about Nigeria he can do it without throwing insults at his fellow countrymen. All it does it breed xenophobia and tribalism.

I noticed that the OP left out the most important part of the article.
Our investigations have observed that the Director has a growing influence on the minds of many who come from the other side of the Niger. The danger in this is that people in that region are beginning to accept whatever he says as the gospel truth. To the unreasoning mind, the Director is framing the thoughts of many of his listeners and predisposing them to dangerous tendencies. Without going into specifics, but to underscore what one is trying to say, the relevant authorities should know the danger of a collective mind-set propelled towards a particularly risky direction.

On a bus from Asaba to Onitsha, the bus conductor was busy amusing passengers with the resurgence of the Biafran agenda, Biafran currency, Biafran flag, and the Biafran identity card. Moreover, he spoke about how personnel of the Nigerian Police tactfully accord great recognition to Biafran I.D. cards and are liable to set someone free of any offence the moment he brandishes the I.D. card. The bus conductor was very vociferous in his claims, and one suddenly realised that the commuters were prone to give into emotion than to reason.

The late Muhammad Yusuf, the founder of what started as a band of fundamentalists in Maiduguri and then transformed into a dreaded global Jihadi movement, did not have a radio of his own. He relied on cassette recordings of his messages, which were influenced by hardline Salafi teachers. However, both the late Yusuf and now Kanu, have one thing in common: inasmuch as their messages are in sharp contrast to one another, they both have the undivided attention of teeming youths in their regions.

It is important to note that ‘terrorism’ means different things to different people. While a weighty number of people in the Muslim world do not view groups like Al-Shabab, Taliban, Islamic State, and their affiliates as terrorists, a majority of people consider them full blooded terrorists. It is the same with the Biafran movement: a growing number of people consider the rebellion an inalienable right that will offer Igbos freedom from the superficial Hausa/Fulani hegemony.

Indeed, Radio Biafra is a ticking time bomb. While we must accept that some of the claims made by the late Yusuf over a decade ago and now by Kanu have merit, like that of the alienation of people, what is generally said on radio Biafra is more emotive than rational. Hopefully Muhammadu Buhari’s new government combats some of these obvious imbalances.

The Hutu power radio that heralded the 1994 Rwandan genocide should be a relevant example of what could result if such hate is left unchecked not only by Kanu, but championed by different groups across Nigeria. As people with a background in media studies, we need not overemphasize the power of the media and its inherent capacities to be instruments of negative or positive ends. But, the power of the media should never be underestimated, at least not in this case. Every serious federating unit should be mindful of the insidious influence of proponents of divisive rhetoric within their midst and their potential to nurture the embers of schismatic discords.
Hate speech like that of Radio Biafra's is exactly how the Rwandan genocide started and it exactly how Boko Haram was able to gain so many followers. I am going to say it again. If Igbos really want Biafra, the best way to get it is through peaceful means. War is not the answer especially when we live in the 21st century and the ones who will most likely be directly affected by it would be igbos just like it is the northerners who are feeling the brunt of Boko Haram's devastation.
PoliticsRe: Don’t Dare Cut Our Salary – Osun Workers Warn Government by bukster(f): 11:09pm On Jul 04, 2015
Salaries will have to be cut. Lower prices mean less money flowing everywhere. I expect salaries to be cut in all levels of government across all states until oil prices have increased. That raw fact is the Nigerian government budget is 90% oil revenue. Lower oil prices means lower governmental budgets.

Elite brainwashing is the last stage of mental slavery http://www.africason.com/2015/05/elite-brainwashing-last-stage-of-mental.html
I never said anything like that. I was just responding to the OP. He said that Chinese people don't have English names but many of them when they go abroad do. I was trying to correct the OP.

I have a traditional first, middle and last name as do everyone else in my family. I am proud of it and wouldn't change it for the world. I'm not really a fan of using foreign names and I plan on giving my future children traditional names too. Using a traditional name has its upsides and downsides. You get to show respect to your culture and ancestors but it can also mean that getting a job abroad may be a little harder or that your kids end up being made fun of if they live oversees.

My point of bringing up Asians wasn't to show that since Asians are doing something we should do it to but to highlight that using foreign names is not just a black phenomenon. Even many European who travel to the US end up anglicizing their first and last name.
I have never understood the point of anyone giving their child a foreign name if they live in Nigeria especially when there are perfectly good and beautiful Nigerian names that they can use but the whole western brainwashing is not just an African phenomenon but one that is felt all over the world to varying degrees. When we see someone or something that is doing well and is successful we try to emulate them even if at times it doesn't make sense to do so.
CultureRe: I Have Made Up My Mind Not To Give My Kids Foreign Or Religious Names by bukster(f): 7:11pm On Jul 02, 2015
If you plan on living in Nigeria having a foreign name doesn't make sense. It's better to be proud of your heritage.
If you plan on moving abroad, a foreign name doesn't hurt. It makes it easier to get jobs and it is easier for other people to pronounce. Most Asians abroad also use English names.

PoliticsRe: The Poorest State In Nigeria by bukster(f): 8:16pm On Jun 29, 2015
The poorest states in Nigeria
1. Sokoto

Sokoto has unfriendly climate conditions with temperature going as high as 45C on a normal day. Most parts of the state are rural areas and over eighty percent (80%) of the inhabitants of Sokoto practice one form of agriculture or another.

2. Katsina

Katsina is a state in North central Nigeria and has the highest poverty prevalence among all states in the region.

3. Adamawa

Formed in 1991 from the extinct Gongola state, Adamawa has of late been terrorized by the Boko Haram terrorists, disrupting its economic development and growth.

4. Gombe

Gombe is another North eastern state which suffers sporadic attacks from terrorists.

5. Jigawa

Jigawa state is situated in the north-western part of the country. It is mostly populated by the Hausa/Fulani, who are spread throughout the state. It has a 74.1 percent poverty rate.
6. Plateau

Plateau state is the twelfth largest state of Nigeria haunted by some terrorist attacks and tribal clashes from time to time, especially clashes between Fulani herdsmen and its inhabitants.

7. Ebonyi

Ebonyi is the only south-eastern state among the top 9 poorest country.

8. Bauchi

In Hausa the word Bauchi meansthe land of freedom and tourism. However recent Boko Haram adventures in the area, though few, have driven tourists away from the area.

9. Kebbi

It is bordered by Sokoto State,Niger State,Dosso Regionin the Republic of Niger and the nation of Benin. The recently concluded Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport (SABIA), stands out as one of Nigeria’s most sophisticated airports and is expected to boost the state’s economy.

10. Zamfara

Recently the governor was blasted for the “alarming scope of economic dangers and its potential threat to the economic development of the state,” by the Zamfara Budget Working Group.

Niger is the state with the lowest poverty rate which is 33.8%. It was followed by Osun (37.9%) and Ondo (45.7%).

Bayelsa (47%) and Lagos (48.6%) have less than 50% poverty rate.

The average poverty rate in the Northwest geopolitical zone is 71.4%, which remained the highest in the said area.

It is followed by the Northeast region which has 69.1% and the North central region which has 60.7%.

Poverty was least dominant in the Southwest (49.8%), South-South (55.5%), and South-East regions (59.5%).

It's not the job of the FG to fix state roads. The FG is only responsible for federal roads that run from one state to the other. If this road is a state road you should be asking your governor to fix it.
If it is a federal road your state senators are responsible for lobbying the government to fix it.

You really do not know your history. England and Scotland were at war with each other for hundreds of years before they were unified. They became one country not through the will of their own people but through the Act of 1707. If England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Island were able to come together as a nation stronger than when they were apart with different cultures and languages, why can't we?

I think your analysis a bit faulty.
The Biafran war started off as just a war between the North and the SE. The SW didn't join until after the Biafran soldiers started moving to the west. The MB only helped the north because Igbo groups killed their leaders. The SS helped the Nigerian soldiers because they were treated badly by the Biafran soldiers. People didn't turn against Igbos because they hated them but because of certain actions the Igbo leaders took before and during the Biafran war. Even Cameroon which initially helped Biafra later aided in the embargo because of the way they were treated by Biafra.

If Igbos want to secede through war or otherwise it is better to make as few enemies as possible. If Igbos make the same mistakes again, history would just repeat itself.

Several aides of the former President told SaharaReporters on Tuesday that his rumored death came as a surprise to them, as the boy is not even sick.

Social media outlets were buzzing with the rumor all of Tuesday. SaharaReporters had reported that the former President was vacationing in Los Angeles.

Saharareporters learned that he plans to return to Nigeria later tonight via Germany, flying Lufthansa into Port Harcourt tomorrow.

It is not clear if this return was planned, or is due to the revelation by our publication of his whereabouts. Earlier in the day, in a stunning announcement, President Buhari disclosed that western countries have signed up to help Nigeria recover its assets that were voraciously looted Mr. Jonathan.
