You're just like Kadiri. undecided
What caused all this noise is that Achebe claimed that Awo advocated the use of starvation as war strategy.
Which lead to the death of millions of non-combatant women and children.

Something which Adichie cited.
This was never about the 20 pounds policy or impoverishment after the war.

As far as i am concerned Igbos have recovered from that long ago.
But those innocent lost lives will never be recovered.

kettykin:

I totally politely Disagree with this, the problem of Nigerian Cities is not 1. zinc roofing and 2 . unpainted properties
The major Problem of Cities like Ibadan is dirtiness and planlessness Awolowo was busy building Cocoa house , Uni Ibadan and WNTV but did nothing to plan the city unlike Kaduna and Enugu which were planned from the Beginning .

Often times the city of Ibadan has won the Dirtiest State Capital in Nigeria competing with Aba which is not even a state capital and the funny thing about this is that while Lagosians are putting the blame of the Problem of Lagos on igbos who are in Lagos in very large Numbers , Ibadan folks dont want to come to terms with the truth about their Delapidated city but keep dreaming that other Nigerian Cities are all the same , Folks who have been to Enugu , Owerri and calabar will disagree with that notion all Nigerian Cities are not same and can never be the same . some Cities are rapidly modernising while others are bein swallowed up by degredation and delapidation.
I have always maintained that this whole Awolowo reputation is one of the biggest myths these daydreaming Awoist foists on Yorubas.
Plus Awo did not build UI undecided

Benin-City is another ancient city which is fast modernizing under Oshiomole's government.
Plus you are right, even though BC is an old city, it too had undergone massive rigorous planning under the government of the then Samuel Ogbemudia.

I don't think anyone has issues with Yorubas , they have issues with Awolowo

That can't be too hard undecided

There is a very long ongoing thread about Enugu the former capital of the Eastern region.
https://www.nairaland.com/979128/enugu-pride-east

I think this an clear avenue to start one for Ibadan capital of the legendary Awolowo's Western region.
So that we can compare

sweet_gala: It's a pity that with all the facts put forward here? Igbo folk still retort to throwing mud and insult. It had been revealed the efforts of Awo to threat even his enemies fairly as best he could where he should have avenged their crimes against him.

It seems as thou Zik,Achebe et all where afraid and very careful to align with Awolowo a man more intelligent than them for fear of an outright Yoruba domination.
The improvements Awo influenced in the west are phenomenal and show a man dedicated to the advancement of Yoruba tribe in his care, if given the chance he might have done same for Nigeria.

This piece together with achebe's further confirm the genius and legend of the great AWO of Africa, and reveals achebe to be a petite shameless poet trying to taint the image of a great man.

I really paid attention when I saw my grandfathers name in the first phrase was gearing for war if someone slings mud at he family name. angry angry
Stop making up this image of Awo.
Asari Dokubo called him a Devil !
And now Achebe calls him a war criminal.

Address the issue on ground and stop beating around the bush.

LOL ! The picture of Ibadan says a lot about the mentality of the inhabitants of the town.
Out of touch and stuck in the past.

In the middle of all that rubble i''m sure you will find a lot of beautifully crafted edifices dedicated to Awo.
Don't blame them, they are trying to hold unto 1960's Awo era grin grin grin grin

MegaMan2020:

Your Yoruba brothers? I'm not your brother Okoro. Is it possible for me to be brothers with lowly Igbos? As for Awo? The same man that gave all you Okoros free education? He's easily the best president Nigeria never had. And if Awo has zero relevance outside of Yorubaland why have the Igbos been screaming bloody murder about him since the end of the war?
From your utterances, I can see that you are a Awoist .
You thought process is has exposed you.

To you is its all about how Igbos are not your brother, neither is anyone else.
Exactly how you devious role model introduced tribalism into Nigerian politics.

Come to Naija Delta and mention that fools name, if you are a highly Yoruba. Monkey !
Politics / Re: Yoruba-Men Must Be Proud Of Obasanjo — Aregbesola by bushwailo: 5:12pm On Dec 12, 2012
Of course Yorubas ought to be proud of a national icon like OBJ.
As far as I am concerned he is clearly the best to have emerged from Yorubaland.
But my Yoruba brothers prefer to embrace a failure like Awo.

Nigerias most devious divisive tribalist president that never was undecided
A man of almost zero relevance outside yorubaland.

Ozonna: We should remove our minds completely from oil cos as we re discovering more oil here in Nigeria, so also are other countries discovering more in their lands.

Mozambique,Uganda,Ghana, etc are few African countries I can remember that have started oil exploration. World biggest economy (US) have started reducing their dependence on foreign oil and they also have oil rich neighbour Canada. Oil in not too distant future will be sold @ less than $10 per barrel (I may be exaggerating abit).

You are not exaggerating, I know exactly wot you are talking about.
Politics / Re: Re: We Remember Differently By S. Kadiri by bushwailo: 3:42pm On Dec 11, 2012

Whenever, Nigerians want to be dishonest on any issue they resort to circumvolution.......

Thereafter, Adichie complained, “I have been startled and saddened by the responses to this excerpt. Many are blindly ethnic, lacking in empathy, and most disturbing of all, lacking in knowledge. Awolowo, as de facto ‘number two man’ on the Nigerian side, was a central architect of the blockade on Biafra side. Without the blockade, the massive starvation in Biafra would not have occurred. These are facts (facts really?).” Is Achebe self not guilty of blind ethnicity when he linked the advancement of Yoruba people to the overriding ambition of Awolowo for power to rule Nigeria? The words, ‘blockade of Biafra’ have been used frivolously to accuse Awolowo of genocide, yet, Adichie and Achebe who are so knowledgeable have not been able to inform their readers about which type of blockade against Biafra he was a central architect to. Was it naval blockade, land blockade or air blockade?
This man is an 1diot. Having accused Nigerians circumvolution, he goes ahead instantly and does the same.
Adichie had stated that Awos comments were indefensible documented facts.
Rather than address it, he had then gone ahead to refer to some comment Achebe made which even Adichie herself had critisized.
Without supporting or refuting the allegation.
Adichie herself did not make the allegation, she had only attempted to unbiasly vet the writings of even her own mentor !

Typical delusional Awoist !
