NYSC / Hello! Would You Like To Head Tuteria's Offline Marketing Team In Lagos? by busybenson: 8:23am On Jan 07, 2016
Hi again, would you like to head Tuteria's offline marketing team?

Oh! First of all...what we do at Tuteria is simply connecting people who want to learn anything, with those who can teach them within their communities all across Nigeria. We're a growing startup and looking to expand our offline marketing operations.

Want to see it for yourself? Here's the link: www.tuteria.com

So the question again: "Would you like to head Tuteria's offline marketing team?"

Em...actually, you will be the only member of the team for now, giving you an unprecedented opportunity to explore creative ways to grow the brand offline and develop a strategy the company will adopt.

We have an interesting offline plan though, and you will be working with a few very smart people.

However, so that you can begin to contribute immediately, you'll need to have some hands-on knowledge of print media and outdoor advertising, and also enjoy relating with thousands of people across Nigeria. You surely won't be going around to advertise...no, no, no, no. But a working knowledge of print media and outdoor advertising is crucial for the work ahead.

Interested in taking up the challenge or know someone who might be?

Then please send a message to my personal email gbudoh@gmail.com so we can discuss. My name is Godwin Benson.

It's a full-time role and it's open to interns, fresh grads or post-NYSC folks and you can even start today. You'll also need to have a functional laptop. We operate from Surulere in Lagos, so it's most preferable if you stay within or around Surulere, so that you don't incur much on transport fare. Thanks for reading.

Thanks for that Adeniyi. Really helpful. I've looked through it and I think the 2nd option definitely passes the ATS screening. However, I'd suggest that people consider using the first version if they will be sending in their CVs directly.

Whichever the case, the eBook contains helpful tips to guide you in writing great content for your CV that will make you appear like a strong candidate whichever format you use, so for those who need it, you can still check it out. www.gbudoh.

I hope I have helped a few people at least. Logging off now. Got a lot of work to do. God bless you all.

Very nice format, but sadly the first CV won't pass the CV "6 seconds test" and the 2nd CV is not formatted for ATS (if the recruiter is using it to screen candidates)

No doubt its artistic, yet its distracting. Simple and less graphic is best!

I prefer the 2nd sha.

Hi everyone, thanks for the great comments. I'm glad I can help. Erm...the first CV is actually optimized for something better than the "6 seconds' test, it works for the "3 seconds" test. Every employer that has seen it - even just a glance - gave the applicant a second look, and wanted to talk to whoever it was who sent in the CV.

However, I don't really know so much about the format best suited for ATS because in both places I worked, I sent my CV to them directly. But I don't want to mislead people, please if you or anyone understands the best format for ATS, send me a mail at gbudoh@gmail.com and enlighten me please.

I'll review what I've done and see how to make it pass the ATS format as well. Thanks.

Jobs/Vacancies / Best FREE CV Formats To Make You Stand Out To Employers by busybenson: 10:58am On Jun 16, 2015
Hi Fellow Nairalanders,

I have had the privilege of working briefly at ExxonMobil and longer at Deloitte Nigeria, and one of the things I noticed was how other job applicants were turned down simply because of how their CV looks which were not compelling enough and didn't make them look like strong candidates.

So working with the HR managers at these companies, I've come up with a sample CV which will give you a big edge over other applicants, and not only that, I explained how you can create yours and also contact almost any HR manager directly and present yourself in a way that they will want to engage with you further - even if no job was advertised.

It's 100% free; and I don't even ask for your email or phone. This is just my way of helping others to get good jobs fast.

Please go to my WordPress blog: gbudoh. and download it from there.

And if you'd like to see what the CVs look like: here're two examples. You can get both formats and follow the instructions there to create yours. So far, at least 10 people have gotten jobs using the principles there. All the best.

Jobs/Vacancies / Helpful Guide: What I Learn't About Applying For Jobs The WRONG Way by busybenson: 3:11pm On Jan 22, 2015
Contrary to what you probably think, there are actually jobs in Nigeria. The real problem is, the way you are searching for jobs is very different and completely opposite, from the way employers are searching for you today.

I discovered this through personal research and by interviewing several hiring managers I had the privilege of meeting, but the image below describes it very accurately.

Before the end of my NYSC, I got a great job in a pretty big firm in Nigeria; but sadly, most of my friends didn’t, even though they tried very hard. I sort of knew they were going about it the wrong way, doing what everyone else is doing without any results. So I decided I was going to find out how to help them.

My aim was to understand what job candidates could do differently to make them become more visible and strongly irresistible to employers in a way that leads to job offers -- and, right now, I think I've finally found a solution that actually works.

Unlike what most of us (including myself think), several hiring managers I had the privilege of speaking with agreed that among other things, there are two most important factors they consider when reviewing a candidate. The first is how much more money the company would make or how much more time they'll be able to save by hiring this person.

Second is how well the candidate is likely to make their work easier and more effective. Interesting, they review everything on your CV, test, credentials, past experiences etc. all in the light of these two - yet, sadly, most job seekers have never been trained to accentuate or emphasis their strengths in ways that make employers clearly see these two all-important features in them.

Most even downplay these features. Take this for an example. Let's say you were in charge of customer care in your previous job or even in your personal or family business. Most people will write this in their CV as, "Handled customer care for company ABC". This doesn't show the employer the real value of your work. Now consider this way of re-writing it:

"Reduced the number of customer complaints from 30 to 8 per day by standardizing our customer service structure which led to happier customers and increased ABC's revenues by almost 20% in 2013"

If these two people applied to you, who would you want to meet? Would you like to hire this second person? Would even think of talking with the first person? So you can see the mistake people make. They go about job application the WRONG WAY. I doubt that any sane employer can ignore a statement like that. What do you think?

Anyway, so what I've done, is to take the bold step to set as many people as I can in the right direction, and hopefully, get them hired faster. I've tried to explain some of the insights in a pdf ebook, and I'm giving it to you entirely free of charge. I don't even require your email address. All I request is that you consider sharing it to help others too. That'll make me happy.

Moreover, before having the courage to give this out to the public, I first test-ran some of the principles with 12 of my 'unemployed' friends; out of which, 6 are now employed and 3 are being interviewed all without any advert and without knowing anyone in those companies. Sound's strange? Yes, just read the book.

Personally, I’m happy it worked for my friends (by the way, the remaining 3 are still on it), and I believe it’ll help many other job seekers - whether you want a career change or a new job. That’s why I took the pain to write this eBook guide and decided to give it out entirely for free to help point you in the right direction and get you hired fast.

What I've done is to uncover a path into almost any company that no one else knows about. It’ll take you into the mind of your potential employers and show you in plain words what you can do from today to compel them to hire you. I really hope it helps.

Please go to gbudoh. to download it.

I had to quickly create a wordpress blog so I can share it from there. If you have any questions, comments or if your device cannot read PDFs, please reply below and I'll do my best to help you. And yeah! If there're any typos in this right up, abeg take am like that o! I just had to quickly put this up.

Once again, please remember to share it. Thanks my people. #OneLove

Cheers.
Sure. Mistakes on a Nairaland post means absolutely nothing. Mistakes on your CV means carelessness, mediocrity. YOU may not see it that way, but that's the message it sends to employers. Take the time to create a perfect CV. Don't make mistakes you could have avoided and then expect employers to ignore it. Major on the things that matter

You obviously don't get the point. I or anyone in fact can make a mistake here on a NAIRALAND POST, and it'll cost what? N-O-T-H-I-N-G. You make a mistake on your CURRICULUM VITAE and what will it cost you? YOUR CAREER. Don't leave what is major and start talking about what is minor.

Jobs/Vacancies / BIGGEST Mistakes You Are Making On Your CV - From Employers' Perspectives by busybenson: 6:56pm On Aug 24, 2014
Dear JobSeeker,

As someone who has traveled wide and worked closely with HR managers of several companies, I'd like to correct THREE BIG mistakes (out of many) that you are making on your CV right now that is costing you your job. And at the end, I'm also going to invite you to purchase an ebook I highly recommend that every jobseeker should have and read thoroughly - if getting a job is important to you. Now let's start.

MISTAKE #1: YOUR CV LOOKS ORDINARY AND COMMON. IT'S NOT DISTINCT AND CATCHY.

Do you remember the saying about judging a book by it's cover? It means whether or not the book has good content, if it doesn't look good on the outside, as far as you are concerned, it is not a good book. It's the same way Hiring Managers see your CVs. If it cannot catch their attention within the first 3 mins 3 secs, and make them interested in reading it a little bit more, it will be trashed - without being read. The reason you never heard from the company you applied to is most likely because your CV was never actually read because of it's appearance.

When it comes to the appearance, the most important thing is for it to be "distinct" from others. Bearing in mind that the employer would have seen many other "similar" CV templates (because nowadays, everybody just copies the same CV templates without making theirs a little different). So if an employer has rejected a previous CV with a particular template and yours arrives using the same template, yours will be rejected too - without it being read! (Trust me, I've worked closely with several HR Managers. They spend less than 5 secs reviewing your CV).

So for it to even be read at all, it as to be distinct and it has to look inviting. 93% of CVs are boring! I have seen MANY, and NONE was inviting enough to make me read it. I just deleted them. I felt I the person who sent it didn't spend time to make it excellent, so I shouldn't waste my time reading it. So to survive past that first 3-5 secs, your CV must have a uniqueness. Well-organised, different look, something to stop the hand of the employer as he is about to throw it into the trash bin.

Your CV is the FIRST and maybe the ONLY way the employer will meet you. If your CV looks dull, they see YOU as dull. If it looks ordinary, they see YOU as ordinary. If it looks excellently done, they see YOU as excellent. And if there are mistakes, then YOU are not a meticulous person. I'm saying this because I am tired of seeing people cry about unemployment when each time I travel around the country, working with several companies and I see jobs everywhere, But many jobseekers do not want to invest enough time, energy and money to prepare and present themselves the right way. YOUR CV IS A SUMMARY OF YOUR LIFE. INVEST TIME TO HAVE A GREAT ONE!

MISTAKE #2: YOUR CV'S CONTENT IS WRITTEN POORLY. IT'S DULL AND NOT COMPELLING ENOUGH

Don't tell them your "duties", "responsibilities" and "activities" in your previous experiences or school engagements. NOBODY CARES!! Tell them the RESULTS of those duties, the DISCIPLINES or SACRIFICES that went into doing them, and the ACCOMPLISHMENTS or ACHIEVEMENTS gotten afterward. That's what matters to employers! Especially if it is explained in MONETARY TERMS.

Let me give you an example, most people write like this on their CVS, "I repaired damaged printer". What?? Who cares? THAT IS DUUUUUULL! INFACT, VERY VERY DULL. Why? Employers don't care about that. It is all story. What they are thinking about is How much more MONEY can this person make for me if hired? Think like an employer! Instead of that, you write the same thing to bring out the strong points that employers want to see, "I saved N170,000 for my company by working 2-hours extra for 4 days to repair our damaged printer"

NOW YOU ARE TALKING! You see the difference? Which employer on earth can ignore someone who did that? That's compelling! THEY WILL CALL YOU, IF YOU WRITE YOUR CVS LIKE THIS. EVEN IF THERE IS NO ADVERT (aka. WHO NO LIKE BETTER THING?). Listen to this: EMPLOYERS NEED PEOPLE THAT CAN HELP THEM MAKE MORE MONEY OR SAVE MORE MONEY - NOT SOMEONE TO PAY SALARY.

MISTAKE #3: YOUR CV IS TOO LONG! YES. ANYTHING MORE THAN 1 PAGE IS TOOOO LONG!!

Except you are the CEO of World Bank, your CV MUST be ONE PAGE! Do you think employers have time to read a two page CV? Will YOU even read a 2-page CV if it was given to you? Don't you know people don't like reading anything that does not concern them? In fact, the only reason you read to this point is that this concerns you directly. If not you would have left. So always compress your CV to one page. Somethings should not be in your CV. They only take space.

THE EBOOK I SPOKE ABOUT
These are just a few tips from my inside experience with HR Managers and helping people get jobs successfully. They are so many more. I have written an ebook to show you how to find the direct email addresses of the employers and apply to them DIRECTLY (instead of using online applications and submitting CVs that hardly ever get to them) - and how to craft compelling CVs that "forces" employers to call you, and how to create a professional LinkedIn page (VERY IMPORTANT) so that employers can find you when they research you online (WHICH THEY ALWAYS DO!). And of course it is not free. It sells for N2,000.

Listen, no matter what people tell you this is the real truth: Whatever you will not personally spend your time and money on, is not important to you. If you are not willing to invest some money at all (which you spend weekly on recharge cards) to buy ONE insightful ebook that will put you before any employer, then you are still joking - seriously joking. Getting a job is not yet important to you.

For those who might be serious. Visit www.transtudentworld.com/jobhelp to see more about the inside techniques for getting a job most people don't know and how you can get a copy, and start earning a salary from the company you want. It's not compulsory. Only for those who are serious.

Thanks for reading. All the best.
Benson

PS: You may send me a mail to ben@transtudentworld.com, or call me on 08104982538. Please note that if the mail or call is not related to the ebook or to what I wrote here, I will not respond. It's the same thing I just spoke about above. If you don't say what the employer wants to hear, they will ignore you no matter what else you say.

chimeluiz:

Please how do I make my CV "compelling and catchy"
I am into ICT, do you have any format or template for a CV in such field

A number of things go into making a CV compelling and catchy:

Firstly, when it comes to the appearance, the most important thing is for it to be "distinct" from others. Bearing in mind that the employer would have seen many other "similar" cv templates (because nowadays, everybody just copies the same CV templates). You should know that your CV is the FIRST and maybe the ONLY way the employer will meet you. If your CV looks dull, they see YOU as dull. if it looks ordinary, they see you as ORDINARY. If it is not done excellently, they YOU are not excellent. And if they are mistakes, then YOU are not a meticulous person.

P.S: I'm writing this for everyone to see, not just chimeluiz. Because I am tired of seeing people cry about unemployment when I travel around the country, working with several companies and I see jobs everywhere I go, but people do not want to invest enough time, energy and money to prepare and present themselves the right way. YOUR CV IS A SUMMARY OF YOUR LIFE. INVEST TIME TO HAVE A GREAT ONE!

Last two weeks, a CORPER bought a copy, read it, re-created her CV (I decided to personally help her with it because I saw her determination), built a professional LinkedIn page, found the direct email address of the HR Manager at KPMG, and sent a DIRECT message to them. She has done the test privately last week (she was the only one invited for it) and has been asked to come for an interview.

Question: Was there any advert? No. Did she know anyone in KPMG? No. Did she have to invest some time, energy and money? Yes.

The choice is yours. Remain unemployed or get the ebook: www.transtudentworld.com/jobhelp/ebook-order

PS: I will not be replying any comments here anymore. So don't bother asking me questions. Everything has been answered in the ebook. I would be glad answer question you may have after you have read it. Thanks for understanding.

Guys! Forget about waiting for job adverts online or in newspapers – and forget about sending CVs to external recruiters! Those things hardly ever work. Isn't that why many people are still unemployed? Wake up!!!

If you are waiting for job opportunities or vacancies to come to you, you may never get a good job. You have to take charge, be bold, think differently and go get the job yourself!! Because you don’t see any advert does not mean the company isn't hiring. You have to find a way to get inside and convince them to hire you! So stop wasting time!!!

Here's an unusual way to to apply for jobs that actually works. It's common sense

Let's say you want to work in MTN as a Customer Service Personnel. All you really have to do to get noticed by your employer is:
1. Find the person who is directly in charge of hiring within MTN - not outside MTN. He/She is the one who determines whether you're called for an interview or not.
2. Get that person’s name and direct official email address. With your phone and internet, you can find almost anything because until your application gets to this person's mail. YOU ARE OUT!
3. Create a catchy and compelling CV that “forces” them to call you. Most normal or modern CVs are boring as hell and trashed in less than 3 secs without being read!
4. Build a professional LinkedIn profile where they can find you. Don't you know that employers research you if they get your application? If you don't have a superb LinkedIn profile, you are gone!
5. Then send the hiring manager a direct message even from your room! It’s that easy!!

No need to go through dishonest external recruiters. You can apply directly to the Hiring Manager and if you say the right things, you’ll get called for an interview before the job is ever advertised. This is so real.

NYSC / Get Jobs DIRECTLY From Employers -- For Serious Job Seekers ONLY by busybenson: 8:05am On Aug 03, 2014
To get a good job fast and ahead of the crowd, stop applying through external recruiters, or online jobs except you want to be disappointed again and again, and be broke for many months. Isn't that why you still don't have a job?

You need to know how to find and DIRECTLY contact the specific person in charge of employment WITHIN the companies you'd like to work in with a compelling message and eye-catching CV that "forces" them to call you even if you have no relevant experience.

Visit www.transtudentworld.com/how-to-get-a-job to learn how you can do just that and get hired quickly.

P.S: If you're unserious or enjoy being unemployed, please DON'T visit the link! It's strictly for Serious Job Seekers please.

Career / How To Get A Job Without Applying Like Everyone Else by busybenson: 3:45am On Jul 31, 2014
Hi there,

I suppose you clicked this post because of the catchy title. But beyond that, my guess is that you are either unemployed right now or you're unsatisfied with your present job and so wanted to check if this "catchy title" can help you, right? Yes it will. Now pay close attention.

Today's job market is a living nightmare. So if you want to get a good job, you really have to standout from others. You have to stop thinking like a 'job seeker' and start thinking like an 'employer'. Let me explain what I mean with a question:

When employers need to hire a secretary for example, what do you think they do first? Advertise it? Announce it? Tell the public? NO WAY!!
That is the LAST thing they consider. Here's what they actually do in the correct order:

1. They try to recall if they have come across a secretary before or someone who has the skill. If they find, that person is contacted directly. No public announcement. No adverts.
2. Secondly, they ask friends and colleagues to recommend a secretary. Again, if they find, he/she is contacted directly. No advert is made.
3. Thirdly, they search on social media, especially on LinkedIn for people who have the needed secretarial skills. If they find, that person is contacted directly. Again, no public announcement is made.
4. Lastly, if they couldn't find anyone using steps 1-3 (which is very rare), then they pay to place adverts on job sites and in newspapers

So. Did you notice anything? The typical 'job seeker' is looking for job adverts, job vacancies, job openings - he is at step 4 while 85% of jobs are taken in steps 1-3 without adverts. Think like an employer! EMPLOYERS DON'T LIKE STEP 4. They don't like to go through the stress of sorting thousands of good, bad and ugly applications they'd get when they advertise. Moreover, that is the only step where they have to spend lots of money to hire you.

THAT IS WHY THE BEST JOBS ARE NEVER ADVERTISED. NEVER EVEN MENTIONED, YET PEOPLE ARE TAKEN. HOW?? THEY ARE IN STEPS 1-3.

So if you're not within steps 1-3, then you are lost in the crowd and may never get a good job. When a company needs 20 people, 17 would ALREADY have been hired using steps 1-3 before adverts are placed for the remaining 3. That is how it works from an employer's perspective.

Think like an employer! Now, I'm sure you'll say it is because they know people within the company who referred them - but that only places them on step 2! But think about this:

What if you can find and contact the Hiring Manager or even the CEO of ANY company DIRECTLY with a compelling message and CV that shows you're perfect for their company and "forces" them to call you?

Where will that place you? STEP 1! That means you will standout from the large unemployment crowd and get good jobs BEFORE they are ever advertised. I have worked at Exxon Mobil and now at Deloitte, and was hired directly by the top management without any form of advert.

This is how to get a job without applying like everyone else. Apply directly to the top management and make them want to meet with you.

So I recently decided to write an article and an eBook to help you do the same. If you are serious about getting the jobs you want, and living the kind of life you want, then this is your ONLY answer. Please click the link below to check it out.
