That fact that you think doing 70km/hr on a highway for fuel gain is legit shows what kind of driver you are.. If you wan save fuel, simply park moto insread of constituting nuisance to other road users because you wan save 3 litres of fuel.

So you dey use cruise control for Anambra... That isn't important.. I can also use cruise control in my street or even inside Shoprite car park . The koko is can you use it in that Anambra long enough for it to give you any serious mpg gains?

When on a long trip always use cruise control, and between 70km - 100km is one of the best range of speed to save on gas.

Doing 70km/hr on a highway is as bad, if not worse than overspeeding.. In some countries, it's an offence to drive so slow on a highway.

Secondary points are that Naija petrol burns very fast, compared to that of some other countries.... So no go get high BP trying to get factory mpg on Naija fuel.. Then mix into the mayhem stations that sell fuel mixed with kerosene or even water , or those who outrightly adjust their pump to cheat....

Leaky injectors and faulty fuel lines can also negatively impact fuel consumption...

Lastly, it can be quite an expensive habit if one gets too obsessed with maintaining vehicle fuel economy.... Money wey u no wan spend for fuel na im u go carry dash Mecho and parts seller.. Mechanics don't work for free.. Parts aren't free either...Checking a little this and rechecking a minor that can pile up a quite hefty repair bill, if one isn't careful.. Besides, there is also the risk that while trying to fix something minor, something major might get damaged.. Dat one na the handiwork of most naija mechos.. Repair one, spoil four... to the best of my knowledge, warming a vehicle on idle is a waste of petrol. It's better to drive around to let the engine oil circulate before packing again.

So I learnt.

If there is nothing draining your car battery when it's off, you can comfortably park it for close to a month and still have enough power left to start the engine.

Warming car at 600 naira per litre is a very expensive venture.

If you no get moni for plenty fuel, get a refund.. See below the mpg factory spec of the 2004 V8 Forerunner . And considering the Nigerian terrain it will be worse... Budget for 12mpg at best..... That's approx 4.8 kilometres per litre.

Those vehicle give 5L highway and 8L city if you carry load let's say you dey do 10L per 100km one would get 40L to 400km which equals yo 20k.

They are still economical.

Load doesn't actually affect those vehicles compared to trying to speed with them, anything above 90km/h fuel economy starts going down the drain.

With load, those engines will work at a higher Rpm to move the vehicle..Higher rev equals higher fuel consumption regardless of the speed.... Given the same load, a smaller engine will work harder than a bigger engine.. And I don't need to go into what those perpetually high revs do to a car engine in the long run.. While normal engines are sitting at 2k or 2k5 Rpm at highway speeds, these puny engines will be screaming at 3k5 or 4k rpm, and may wail into 5k+ Rpm upon slight kickdown..

Besides, why would any sane person be doing below 90 on a highway?.... As in a clear highway.. Abi you don't know that going slow on a highway is sometimes even more dangerous than overspeeding?

Let me break it down to a lay man understanding, if 10 units of your current stock is 5m, but due to the increment in price of new stock, your money is not enough to buy same 10 units, the right thing to do is to buy whatever units your money can complete or take a loan to meet up. Your inability to buy 10 units with same amount is not a lose but increment in business capital.

You don't dupe people by increasing the price of old stock to meet up with new stock, because that is not the real value of what you bought.

As a business man, I've been passing through the same process since around 2017. You will stock 100 pieces today, and the same amount spent on 100 pieces won't be enough to get 80 pieces. This dont cause a lost but increment in business capital.

To be honest, you have a point.

However, it is necessary to understand the original reason why the transmission behaved the way it did.

In most cases, it is as a result of clogged oil filter which OP has changed. The clogged oil filter will cause dirt/ingress to wedge between sliding valves with valve bodies or between solenoids valves and their bores and so one. Once the ECT memory records that some solenoids are drawing more current than usual due to stickiness of some sort, it CAN DEACTIVATE that solenoid completely and change the shift points of the transmission. It will use alternate solenoids to try and achieve the same purpose but at the expense of shift quality. It is more like a failsafe mechanism to protect the transmission from damage. Now, if this is caught early enough(which i hope is the case for OP), a simple oil change with oil filter replacement will solve the problem "MECHANICALLY" but nothing changes in the ECT memory until an adaptation reset is done. In many cases, this often times solves the problem completely. In my experience, I've seen cases where the problem returns but won't be as severe as it was before. We continue to reset the transmission memory until this doesn't happen again. This will give ample time for all the ingress in the bores to come out. In our own case, we would not charge the customer the second or third time for the reset.

In any case, at least with the cars I have owned, the gear system is a closed one.. That's why a car can be driven for years and its gear oil will still be looking as pink and smelling as sweet as the day it was put in.... For something to clog the filter so bad that it triggers an error means that some mechanism in the gear is slowly being shaved by another mechanism, giving rise to particles that get caught in the filter..Or the gear's closed system has been compromised, letting foreign objects in..


Moreso, I would think that a proper way to attack this issue is to get to its root.. By finding out what blocked the oil filter in a supposedly closed system, what damage that block has done, instead of just draining and replacing oil and the filter.

When I finally meet this new guy(one young guy), he drove the car around and told me he will fix it but it will cost me 60k. So, we bargained and finally settled at 30k. He initially told me he will need to allow the car to cool for a minimum of 6 hours b4 he will open the gearbox, and that the car will be ready the next day. So I said okay. Later, he told me to enter the car and let's drive it again. We drove it a few distances then he parked and fixed his machine in the car. He carried out a TRANSMISSION ADAPTATION RESET and that solve the whole issue. This same thing was suggested to me by Jimts AutoJando here, but since I don't have the device to do it, I had to allow those guys to have their way.

I took out time to narrate my experiences so other car owners can learn from them. Those mechanics and rewire guys are ready to milk you dry if you don't shine your eyes. Again, don't totally trust your mechanic, irrespective of your relationship with them. Try to verify things from 2 or 3 others before agreeing to most of their suggestions.

Some of these "resets" sweep faults under the carpet and resurface under stressful driving conditions.

Common logic should make you ask what unset the "transmission adaptation"in the first place to require its resetting... Something stored that error that needed resetting..perfectly working transmissions don't just get bored and develop errors...And until that something is fixed, that young guyman has possibly given your transmission mere first aid for 30k.. E go still land for hospital las las..
