LiteratureRe: I Am Writing A Self Help Book; Am I alone? by bvc(op): 9:17pm On Oct 26, 2013
Personally, I think the current happenings in Nigeria require a straight forward - heads on approach. Some people will argue that poetry will help, but I don't see myself finishing any novel when I've not even finished Robert Kiyosaki's series. Its probably just me, I need other opinions
LiteratureI Am Writing A Self Help Book; Am I alone? by bvc(op):
I am currently writing a self help book for students in higher institutions. I just realized that novels and poems are taken more seriously than serious motivational, inspirational and DIY books. Why is that? Why whill a publisher agree to publish a novel or storybook but insist on slef-publishing for more serious books?

The reason for the subject is that I don't see any resource on self help books here, I only see storiy telling and poetry. Am I in the wrong place? Should I be talking about writing a book in the business section? Or is there another section for people like me?

FamilyRe: For Mums Gone To The Great Beyond: Tributes From Nairalanders. by bvc(m):
Mrs. Elizabeth Ogomegbunam Bioseh nee Ugboko passed on on the 12th of april, 2007. She is my mom! I'm so proud of the woman she was; a single mother that took the sole responsibility of taking care of 3 children.I was never driven out of school for reasons relating to money. I always had access to the basic 3 square meals. I even had the luxury of excessive extra cash I schemed off her when I was in uni, just so I could match up to the fly boys. I once told her I would buy her a helicopter that she could go to the market with,..I was going to...death was quicker.

I extorted so much funds from this single mom with the hope that I will pay her back, even a thousand folds...I meant it. But I didn't have a chance to buy her anything.

...When she laid on that sick bed, I adored her so much, there was nothing to compare to her. She was my only joy; my heart; my love. I saw my mom's health deteriorate, I didn't know pastors(have a catholic background); didn't believe priests could help, it was cancer. I went to a cafe with tears in my eyes, I wrote to ministries ran by Benny Hinn, T. D. Jakes etc. Of course they didn't get the mails directly.

I was helpless. Money couldn't solve it...she died. I died too(not literally). I asked GOD why; What I didn't do right; so many questions. HE is GOD regardless.

She gave up comfort so I could be accomodated; she gave up luxury so I could have a better future.I could swear I owed her all my life, but I know better now.

Yes! I still miss her.
Yes! I still want her back.
At least, to say thank you!
Thank you ma!
NYSCNYSC Cooperative: A Scam? by bvc(op): 2:59pm On May 04, 2013
I paid 500naira into the nysc cooperative when I was passing out. We all paid, it was compulsory. My friend just told me that the funds are used to empower members later in life. Members that want to go into business ventures. He said the nysc certificate is the collateral.

Please, anybody with useful information on how to access these funds should kindly state it here. If we don't access the funds, the management will trade with them and eventually siphon them when nobody asks for them.

Thanks in anticipation, I know I can trust nairaland with this.

LiteratureAll Nl Authors Pls Drop A Word Of Advice/ A Little Extra by bvc(op): 10:38pm On Mar 22, 2013
I've been in nl for years now, but not the writing section. I can spend hours in the business section, that's where my passion lies.

Now I think I have something to share, something that will serve a purpose in the business community. I need to write a book. I need all the help I can get to write that book.

I fear that what I'll write will be just a few pages, but I want something between 200 and 300 pages. Something moderate. Something that will pass as a motivational book.

For a new comer like me, I humbly asK for guidance from all the fantastic authors here. I read some of your blurbs and I shiver in fear.
-i need to know how to buttress a point
-i need to know how 2 generate more content under specific topics
-i need to learn how 2 organize my materials
-i need to learn how to present and deliver materials

Pls help me 1, help me all.
Thanks in anticipation

EducationHow To Improve The Reading Culture Of The Nigerian Child by bvc(op):
It is no news that the reading culture of the youths in Nigeria has nose-dived and crash landed. I won't try to explain why or when it all started. I won't lay blames, nor point fingers. My team is working on a project to improve the reading culture of the youth, we need help to actualize that. How do we go about this? What are programs that will help? Are there links to where such topics have been treated in nairaland? so I can read from there as well. Please, help suggest/recommend ways to improve the reading culture of the Nigerian child. Somebody has to start the change. Cheers!

My conclusions:
1) With mula,u won't get a lot of these
2) Sometimes, its not about money, females (in those cases) are just being nice.why? They could have said something worse like ~ 'u wish' or 'in your dreams'.
3) Girls on here wey nobody they chyk go come here they form jackie chan, upload ur best pix make we see. All those "I use 1 n 4's a lot" make we see ur face.
4) My favorite ~ 'let's be friends' without adding 'and nothing more' is not so bad, depending on a lot of factors.
BusinessRe: Tips For Winning Customers To Your Business by bvc(m): 9:19pm On Nov 09, 2012
Sisi_Kill: OP your tips are very nice. . .for Normal Businesses but for Nigerian business? Abeg the first tip should be - BE NICE AND COURTEOUS.

I can't count how many times I have had to ask a receptionist or cashier or some manager or bank teller if we've met before and they are like, no why do you ask? And I go I am just wondering if I need to apologize for something I did to you the last time we met with the way you squeezing your face and spitting your responses back.

Typical Conversation goes like this

Someone enters the office, the reception waits until the person says Good morning before she answers. . .does not even look up from whatever she is doing.

Receptionist - (frowning her face like she's just eaten baby poo) Goo morrin, can i help you?

Person - Yes, I am here to do to get this papers signed. Apparently I need the manager's signature on this to get blah blah blah.

Reception - What?

Person - (slower and a bit confused) I said I am here to do so and so. . .am I in the right place?

Receptionist (frowning harder like spoilt egg has been added to the baby poo) - Yes, you are but we don't do that on Fridays.

Person - Oh? No one told me that when I called.

Receptionsist (Now rotten milk is now part of the diet) - Ehn maybe you called the wrong place.

Person - No I didn't, I specifically called the number I was given when I came here on Monday and was told the manager is not always on seat on Mondays. The gateman gave me a card and told me to call that number and I did.

Receptionist - (More rotten milk) - Why are you collecting number from the gateman? He does not know anything about what we do.

Person - (Brings card out) this is the card he gave me. . .it says call to these numbers for questions.

Receptionist (with a side of cow dung) - That is how headoffice number, they don't know what we do here.

Person - Okay, so what do I do now?

Receptionist - Like I have told you before we don't do that on Friday, maybe you should come on Monday.

Person - But I was here on Monday and they told me the manager is not on seat on Mondays.

Receptionist - Ehn he is not here but you can submit the form and when he come on Tuesday, he will sign it then.

Person - So I can pick it up on Tuesday?

Receptionist - No

Person - Why not?

Receptionist - Because we still have to laminate it.

Person - You can't laminate on Tuesday?

Receptionist - No.

Person (Taking deep breaths) - Why not?

Receptionist - Because the laminate place only open on Wednesday.

Person - There is only one laminating place?

Receptionist - No

Person - Okaaaay, why can't you laminate it somewhere else.

Receptionist - Oga, your question is becoming to much oh. That is just how we do our business.

Person (trying to hold on to the their temper) - Okay, alright. Okay Fine.

Starts walking out

Reception - So You are not coming on Monday?

Person - (Angrily) What do you you mean so I am not coming back on Monday? Do I have a choice? Of course I am coming back on Monday.

Reception - Ehn, Ehn, Please oga don't shout on me oh, I am somebody's wife.

Person - Why won't I shout. How can you ask me if I am coming back on Monday when you told me I have to come back on Monday to get things done.

Receptionist - I only asked because you didn't set an appointment.

Person - I have to set an appointment? To submit the papers?

Receptionist - Yes.

Person - I wasn't told that

Receptionist - eh, eh Oga shebi I just told you naa

Reaches over the desk and strangles Receptionist.

Receptionist - So are you setting appointment or not. I have to go for my break oh.

Person snaps out of fantasy of strangling receptionist and walks back to desk in resignation to make an appointment. Starts walking out of office

Receptionist (smiling sweetly) - Oga, you will just leave like that? You won't even give me something for weekend?

Door Banging.
You said it all!

Christianity EtcWhat You Can Do For The Gospel On & After Independence Day (october 1st) by bvc(op): 12:08pm On Sep 19, 2012
Get a chance to celebrate the independence day on the 1st of October in grand style(& giving glory to GOD), here is how: Get a good quality t-shirt with a bible verse of your choice beautifully printed on it (for evangelism) and you are guaranteed to have fed a hungry child.

Visit http://kingdomshirts.gnbo.com.ng/ for more details.

Ps:The website doesn't have a mobile view, pls use a pc to view.

After the independence: Why wear a t-shirt with a meaningless inscription on it?

Why promote the kingdom of darkness with ungodly write-ups on your t-shirts?

Do you prefer a plain t-shirt (without any inscription) to a t-shirt that tells people about JESUS? If you don't, consider Kingdom t-shirts, kindly visit http://kingdomshirts.gnbo.com.ng/

Bless you!!!

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

PoliticsRe: Introduction Of N5,000 Note: Nigerians Are Wasting Their Time – Sanusi Lamido by bvc(m): 2:20pm On Sep 16, 2012
Sanusi can do whatever he likes with cbn AS LONG AS he is held accountable to his mistakes/shortcomings/wastes with a sizeable jail term because he cannot refund Nigeria. My point it, we have enough hungry people here for some economist to sit in his million dollar office and make laws that affects over 160million people. Office holders should be held accountable, if we don't agree and you insist, then your freedom should be at stake. He should spend the rest of his life in jail if he wastes these money, I'm sure he will
CareerRe: Pure, Applied, Industrial & Bio Chemists' Zone by bvc(m): 10:51pm On Sep 12, 2012
I read as much as I could in this thread with great dismay and grievance. How come everybody in here wants to attach to a ready-made establishment? No body wants to be Creative and start something new. Its pathetic. I weep for my country. Even in my generation, we all want to unconsciously help the dreamers behind big companies (like shell and elf even in their death) build their dreams. They started from somewhere! Chemistry is creativity! It is broader than you can imagine, whether its bio, applied, pure or industrial. Let's be creative, Nigeria's livelihood depends on us as much as it depends on agric science, maybe even more. I'm an industrial chemist by the way! Corrosives in the building show some love!!!!

NYSC2011 Batch C Corp Member. Is There Still Time? by bvc(op): 7:21pm On Aug 30, 2012
Like the title states, I'm a batch c corp member, to pass out in october. I'm serving in Inyi, Oji River local government in Enugu state.

Before I got to camp, I was into skills acquisition, including rural trainings. So, I didn't panick when I was posted to a village. I had trained rural dwellers in productive skills they can earn a living from in a couple of villages before, so I was sort of familiar with rural dwellers.

I succeeded in hosting a free skills acquisition training (that I sponsored 70%), the Igwe was supposed to help with publicity(tell youth leaders); we had a town crier spread the news; we went to 80% of the churches in the village to inform them about this free trainings.

They had a very poor attendance, they were like 7 adults and 10 teenagers and 15children. I wasn't encouraging.

A youth leader there hinted me that his people hate to learn. That he forced 2 teenagers to come for it personally. That we should not worry.

Now, the thing is, I want to do more. I want to impact the lives of these people before I leave them finally in october. I don't mind sponsoring what ever suggestions I get, I just want to impact lives in what ever way possible.

What can I do to impact the lives of rural dwellers posively and productively, with the available time?

Your suggestions are welcome. Thanks!!!

Lmao@the tire inflator seller not wanting to spend money on advertisement. It now brings a thought in my head, what do people know about advertisement? What product/service should be advertised? How much should be invested in advertisement? Etc

Meritgold, tell the 'seller' that advertisement is investment, not a gamble. If you have to pay 20naira to sell your products worth 50naira for 100naira won't you pay the 20naira? I'm sure you will. You see, we are not all made to be entrepreneurs (risk takers).

My mother died years back with a lot of shares in her name. I have the certificates. How do I claim them? What are the requirements? Is there a time frame?

Also, she bought shares in my name as well, but she was the signatory. How do I claim those as well? I'm clueless in this respect. I left this for so long, but enough of the procrastination.

Please help me good people of Nairaland.

Over the years I have watched marketers suffer as a result of lack of technical no how.

These days marketing jobs are so unattractive in a country where unemployment is dominant.

I hear graduates and undergraduates lament over their marketing jobs / offers, but I kept silent. Maybe out of greed, because as an entrepreneur, I got my products across to the people that need them without stress.

This is my way of saying; I changed my mind. Let us all help marketers everywhere. I will moderate the discussions, because I will say I haven't had any marketing problems in all my businesses.

A brief profile of myself: I am a graduate of Industrial chemistry, in the university of port harcourt. An associate member of the Institute of Customer Relationship, Nigeria and Institute of Strategic Management, Nigeria. I started selling over 2 decades ago, and I'm still in my late 20s. From hawking to hustling; sales of goods and services; resl estate and infosales. The list goes on and on. But, the most important point you should note is; I have a rare flare for marketing-customer relationship-sales.

Now, enough of me! Here is the deal: -I want struggling marketers and sales people to share their experiences and difficulties.
-Contributions, solutions and ideas are expected from everyone with meaningful ideas.
-I will be answering all unanswered questions as soon as I can.
-I will be giving relevant strategic ways to get goods and services in the mins of people.
-Other experts are free to contribute.

What I intend to achieve:
-To relieve the stress of marketers and sales personnels.
-To let them know they are not alone.
-To encourage them to be more productive.
-To give them procedures on how to be more productive.
-To give marketers an avenue to network.
-To help aspiring marketers in their begining stages.
Et cetera

Feel free to drop your experiences; questions; diffulties; sort coming and problems (as it relates to marketing and sales) here.
