PoliticsOkorocha Dissolves Cabinet, appoint In-law Chief Of Staff To The State Government by cabjoy(op): 9:21am On Jun 03, 2015
Imo state governor, Rochas Okorocha yesterday dissolved his cabinet, putting an end to the speculation of whether the governor would continue with the dissolved cabinet members who worked for him during his re election.

Chief Jude Ejiogu, who was the former chief of staff to the Government House is now elevated to the status of the Secretary to the State Government(SSG)while the former commissioner for lands and urban planning, chief Uche Nwosu, the governor’s in-law retained his position but went a little step further, doubling as the chief of staff to the state government.

Former Senior Special Assistant to the governor on media, Sam Onwuemeodo has been given the position of the Chief Press Secretary.

Other positions as the time of filling this report were not clear. Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor of the Imo State University (IMSU) has been sacked by governor Okorocha and in his place, the former commissioner for Local Government and Chieftancy matters, Adaobi Obasi has been asked to act in the interim.

Leadership gathered that his sack may not be unconnected to his open support for former Abia state governor, Ogbonaya Onu’s clamored to be the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. (SGF).

PoliticsOwerri—the Crisis Of Confidence Rocking Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo, Ohaji/eg by cabjoy(op): 6:51am On May 15, 2015
OWERRI—The crisis of confidence rocking Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo, Ohaji/Egbema Local Council Area of the state, has degenerated to the point of the institution’s Rector, Rev. Fr. Wence Madu, being dragged to the dreaded Okija Shrine in Anambra State.
The invitation letter, which was allegedly extended to the Rector, was signed by one Ukaegbu N. Ogidi, who claimed that there was a complaint of injustice against Rev. Fr. Madu.
While stating that any respondent coming to Ogwugwu Okija must come with clean hands, Ogidi also informed the Rector that “Ogwugwu kills only those whose hands are not clean, especially those who committed evil against their fellow human beings at work places, churches, mosques, markets and other public places.”
The letter also claimed that Rev. Fr. Madu knew about the issue at stake, “but turned around to conspire and deal with an innocent person.”
The Rector was equally reminded in the mail that he “should feel free to reverse the injustice with your conspirators and collaborators against the complainants to avoid coming to Ogwugwu and other unpleasant consequences.”
The custodians of the shrine similarly informed the Rector that he should on arrival, look for the Chief Priest for briefing and other formalities.
Then the threat: “But where you fail to come because of any reason, we shall come to your residence or office.  The truth must be uncovered at all cost.”
When Vanguard visited the Rector’s office, yesterday, to ascertain if he got such an invitation or not, somebody who claimed to be a staff of the office said the Imo Polytechnic boss was not in the office.

PoliticsWe Are Ready For Handover Don’t Panic, Amaechi Tells Wike by cabjoy(op): 9:40am On May 09, 2015
The Rivers State Governor, Mr Chibuike Amaechi, has expressed the readiness of his Administration to handover on May 29. Amaechi who dismissed rumours he would not be handing over the reign of governance on the date, wondered what he would be doing in office after May 29. The Rivers state Governor averred that the entire cabinet has made ready their notes preparatory to the terminal date of his regime.

“We are ready for handover unlike the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, at the centre that is busy making new appointments and sacking people. They have refused to brief the Muhammadu Buhari Transition Team and All Progressives Congress, APC, is not screaming blue murder. Rather, the APC at the centre is meeting and planning and preparing for government”.
Wike and Amaechi

Wike and Amaechi

Painting an ugly scenario in Rivers State, Gov. Amaechi stated that rather than support democracy, PDP has been busy doctoring election results and Voter Register.

“Unfortunately in Rivers State, the PDP is busy doctoring election results, doctoring Voter Register as to cover their stolen mandate, and crying wolf to cover their mischief”.

Amaechi who spoke through the Rivers State Commissioner of Information and Communications, Ibim Semenitari, added that whoever would take over from him has no reason to panic.

In a statement in Port Harcourt on Friday, Semenitari dismissed insinuations the outgoing regime had shown no co-operation with the man the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, declared winner of the April 11 governorship election in Rivers State. While dismissing reports the outgoing Administration has been un-co-operative with the PDP, Semenitari allayed such fears saying that PDP already has everything going for it.

“They stole the outcome of the April 11 election and gave no hoot; they declared their candidates winners with the criminal connivance of INEC and cared less about local, national and international opinion that what took place in Rivers state on April 11 was everything but an election. The more APC had pushed for electoral materials which are statutory demands of an electoral litigation, the farther PDP and INEC had kept it, and seemingly, they have had their way. So, they have all going for them. They have nothing to worry about. If and when Mr. Ezebuwon Nyesom Wike, will be sworn in, the issue of handover notes and other statutory briefings should not be any worry to him. Already Wike has as part of his transition team the State Deputy Governor, Engr. Tele Renner Ikuru, who is ViceChairman of the Rivers Stare Executive Council, and who is abreast of all projects and Programmes of the current administration, having chaired many sensitive state government committees as well as state cabinet meetings.” Semenitari said.

“After all, PDP has constituted Inauguration and Transition Committees, respectively”.

The Information and Communications Commissioner who insisted PDP stole the mandate it is parading, reasoned that with the pair of Ikuru and Wike, PDP should have no difficulty with any briefings that they might need from the current administration. She advised PDP to learn from APC which has not raised any hairs despite what are deliberate steps at the centre to provokethe party. “Governor Amaechi has not made any new appointment as he knows he is leaving office, unlike what PDP is doing at the centre. They are busy sacking and making appointments, functions that should be entirely left for the in-coming Administration. Provocative as it is, APC has rather, concerned itself with continued preparations to give Nigerians good governance. APC has refused to dance to PDP’s evil drumbeats, choosing to show maturity.

“Let PDP in Rivers state leave Governor Amaechi alone. He is a busy man and did not contest any elections. Governor Amaechi is known for committing his all into any worthy assignment or duty he is called to do. Having governed Rivers State for close to eight years, Amaechi cannot be happier that history and posterity will judge him fairly. A fact a million PDPs cannot obliterate”.

Customs officials shocked as scanner reveals boy hidden inside a suitcase (Photos) POSTED BY: OLADITI ADEDAPO - 12:42 P.M.
SHARE& COMMENT

Stunned customs officials scanned a small item of luggage and found a young boy hidden inside.
X-ray images capture the moment the youngster was caught on camera tucked up in the trolley suitcase as he tried to get into Spain.
The luggage belonged to a 19-year-old woman who police became suspicious of after noticing she was becoming nervous.
They pulled her to one side and, believing she may have been smuggling drugs, scanned her luggage - only to find something much more shocking.
An outline of a young boy was clearly seen and officers immediately opened the bad and pulled out an eight-year-old boy.

A spokesman for the Civil Guard said:
"This could have had a tragic end."
The boy stuck his head out of the suitcase and said, in French, "hello, my name is Abou."
Police are now investigating the circumstances of the strange incident but have already arrested a man from Costa de Marfil on the Ivory Coast who was found to be the boy's father.

He tried to get through the same checkpoint about an hour and a half later, saying he lived in the Canary Islands. It is believed the woman was acting as a carrier for a substantial fee.

ADDRESS BY PRESIDENT-ELECT, GENERAL MUHAMMADU BUHARI, (GCFR) AT THE OCCASION OF THE INDUCTION OF NEW LEGISLATORS OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY ORGANIZED BY THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR LEGISLATIVE STUDIES HOLDING IN ABUJA ON WEDNESDAY, APRIL 29TH, 2015.

PROTOCOL:

I am very pleased to be here today as part of this induction programme and to address the elected Members of the 8th National Assembly. I heartily congratulate all of you for being found worthy to be elected by Nigeria’s citizens in a fair and transparent election process.

I am delighted to say that we stand on the threshold of history. For the first time in our post independence history, power is going to be transferred from an incumbent ruling party to an opposition party.

This is inspite of predictions of calamitous outcomes.

Nigerians have indeed proven once again that they are a united people and stand resolute to protect its growing democracy.

I wish to specifically acknowledge and laud the maturity exhibited by the political class, the professionalism of our security agencies, the competence and resilience of INEC, but above all the doggedness of Nigerians and their commitment to ensuring that their wishes are represented and respected.

I daresay, it is equally a victory for all political parties and their leaderships for according due respect to the electoral process and accepting the results in most cases. I wish to specifically acknowledge the role played by the President, H.E Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for accepting the results of the election before final announcement was made.

The legislature is a critical component and necessary ingredient of democracy and good governance. The legislature by nature is inherently democratic in the sense that all members are equal and are elected representatives of the Nigerian people.

As President-Elect, I recognize this fact and believe that legislators carry this heavy burden of representation with all the seriousness it deserves.

For a president to be successful in addressing community development and general welfare of the various people of the country, he or she would benefit from working closely and in harmony with the legislative arm of government. I therefore commit myself to working with the legislature as development partners motivated by the desire to deliver good governance.

Distinguished Elected Members of the 8th National Assembly, we are all aware of the challenges our dear nation has been facing and will continue to do so in the near future. These daunting challenges include:

General insecurity and insurgency that has caused extreme human hardship and destruction of lives, livelihoods that may take us over a decade to rebuild across most of North Eastern Nigeria and some parts of North western Nigeria.

Devastation and environmental degradation in the Niger Delta area which must be attended to.

Decline in revenues due to fall in oil prices which poses a threat to Government’s capacity to deliver on reconstruction of devastated areas and the new government development agenda.

Endemic corruption which has crippled human and infrastructure development for decades.

Unacceptably poor provision of power supply which has had a crippling effect on development of small businesses and indeed the wider economy.

Deindustrialization for the past 3 decades leading to closure of many industries and migration of many to other African countries.

Unacceptably high levels of unemployment and especially Youth Unemployment reaching over 40%.

High cost of governance that has been crowding out capital and human development.

Erosion of public social services such as infrastructure, health and education.
Buhari

Buhari

Lack of development in the agricultural and solid mineral sectors.

Distinguished Members of the 8th National Assembly, I see these development challenges as the mission of my presidency. I need the support of the Members of National Assembly on the battle front. I need your support in many respects.

First and foremost, appropriate policies need to be put in place and such policies may have to be translated into laws.

Secondly, the oversight functions of the legislature is critical in ensuring that policies are implemented effectively and transparently. Therefore, my mission to bring integrity into governance would better succeed if complemented with a strong culture of transparent oversight.

Thirdly, we need to collaborate on the budget process and restructuring of the public sector so as to collectively tackle the menace of high recurrent cost at the expense of capital and human development.

Fourthly, there is an urgent need to contain this high state of insecurity. All of you are representing various communities. We need to work together to address the problem from both its roots and manifestations.

The strongest mitigating forces at this point are to redress the power sector deficits, encourage investments that are job creating and focus on human development and reconstruction. We also need to deploy efforts in conflict resolution and peace building in all our communities.
I am here today, to invite you to work with the executive as partners in progress, as champions of good governance and development and as warriors for change. Together, we can make this nation great and as a role model in Africa and other emerging economies and democracies.
I wish you a successful completion of your induction programme. I wish all of you a successful and effective tenure in the service of our fatherland.

General Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR
President Elect
Federal Republic of Nigeria.
