PoliticsRe: We Won’t Call Witnesses Because Atiku’s Witnesses Supported Our Case, Inec’s Law by Cajal(m): 3:25pm On Jul 29, 2019
sarrki:
The Independent National Electoral Commission said on Monday that it would not call any witness to defend its case in respect of the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party and its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

Atiku and his party are by their petition challenging the outcome of February 23, 2019 presidential election which INEC declared was won by President Muhammadu Buhari and his All Progressives Congress.

The petitioners had rested their case with 62 witnesses on July 19 after which the five-man tribunal led by Justice Mohammed Garba adjourned further proceedings till Monday for INEC to open its defence.

But when called upon by the tribunal to open his case on Monday, INEC’s lawyer, Yunus Usman (SAN), said it would not be necessary on the grounds that the evidence extracted from the petitioners’ witnesses during cross-examination was in support of the commission’s case.

He said, “We have painstakingly reviewed the evidence of petitioners’ witnesses.

“We have also painstakingly studied the petitioners’ evidence under cross-examination, which supports our defence and our denial in consonance with our pleadings.

“My lords, we do not see the need to waste your lordship’s precious time by repeating what their witnesses have repeated under cross-examination.

“In that circumstance, we will not call any witness to help them prove their case.

“We, therefore, rely on the evidence of their witness under cross-examination.”

Responding, Buhari’s lawyer, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), requested to be allowed to open his client’s case at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

APC’s lawyer, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), said his decision on whether or not to call witnesses would depend on the case to be presented by Buhari’s legal team.

On his part, the petitioners’ lawyer, Dr. Livy Uzoukwu (SAN), thanked INEC’s legal team for not calling witnesses.

“I profusely thank my brother and friend for deciding not to call any witness,” he said.

The proscription of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria or rather the Shiite sect is a distasteful decision, an ill-thought out one and a violation of the fundamental human rights of it's members.
I wonder who even advices these people?

It is just as ridiculous as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom proscribing the Catholic Church in England.

When a people decide to be law-abiding, blind to the injustice they receive and utmostly docile; it is rather offensive for the government to push them so hard against the wall where revolting against such assault would be the only rational way out.

This administration should realize that the toughest battle any nation can face is not a war with world powers but a battle with its' own people.
Enough of the bridge burning.

As always, I will stand for the ugly truth.
The Shiites are no terrorists, if there is any body the government should approach with such iron fists, it should be MIYETTI ALLAH who are unapologetically sympathetic to the herdsmen terrorists as well as MURIC.

MRAKBEE:
The middle belt parades most of the confused elements in this country. I guess he is an APC card carrying members and a Brown envelope journalist. I went through this so called journalist article and couldn't help but ask myself if he was writing without the part of his brain that remembers history and compares it with current happenings. He failed to tell us one outstanding achievement of this present administration that surpasses OBJ feats. However he succeeded in telling us how bad he was at History in post primary school and why we should all believe that he does not even know about the various appointments this man in Aso Rock has made with this line..''I don’t have the data, and you also did not provide any to substantiate your claim''. What an argument!
The fact that Obasanjo didn't do much on the same issue he wrote about doesn't mean he shouldn't say anything about the recent happenings in the country as a concern citizen and an elder stateman. Has this country ever been this divided? Didn't that confused Somebori send troops to deal severely with those who only wanted to opt out of this British colonial experiment as it didn't and will never favour them? Were lives not wasted for nothing?
Have innocent lives ever been wasted like this before with impunity? Have we ever witnessed this same level of impunity, nepotism, tribalism, sectionalism, corruption in this country? Could this country not have torn into pieces if these things had happened before? Which country would that illiterate in Aso Rock be ruling now?
Im afraid, Kurtis Akigba is a big fool for penning this nonsense. Who asked him of this family background and his mum's last office before retirement? I believe he wants to trend and be employed by this evil party? I pray may the same fate that has befallen victims of Fulani herdsmen fall on him a thousand times. I also pray that this British configuration disintegrate one day so dat his likes will find their place in a country where some so called human beings place more value on cows lives than human lives.

PoliticsRe: I Never Criticized Buhari’s Achievements — Wole Soyinka by Cajal(m): 5:04pm On Jul 17, 2019
umahiprinceblog:
Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has dismissed reports that he said herdsmen’s challenge has eroded President Muhammadu Buhari’s achievements.

The literary icon while reacting to a report in The Nation on Monday, said there was nowhere he uttered words attributed to him by the paper.

His statement reads: “I denounce, in very strong terms, the report in The Nation of July 15, 2019, regarding my exchange with school pupils who visited me in Abeokuta, on Sunday, July 14, as part of the organised events on my 85th Birthday. I am appalled that such a twisted and unprofessional account could be disseminated by a paper that has earned itself a high level of public regard, not only for its reportage, but for the galaxy of perceptive contributors on national affairs and other issues of public interest. It is a gross disservice to truth and conscience, and the pursuit of the journalistic profession as a whole.

“At no time did I utter the words attributed to me by that paper, which sought to cite the plague of violence by nomadic herdsmen for the “erosion of Buhari’s achievements”. Indeed, at no time in that exchange did the “achievements” of Nigeria’s current government – real or fictitious – come under consideration. The headlining is especially gratuitous, fictitious, and dishonest.

“For the avoidance of doubt, a school pupil had requested my assessment of ALL past Nigerian governments. In order to enable these pupils develop as objective, all-round critics, constantly aware of the context in which opinions should be formed, I began by warning them that governance is a difficult undertaking. I went on to add that governing a complex nation space known as Nigeria is especially challenging.

“The Nation’s report has mischievously detached, then reattached that comment elsewhere in order to introduce achievements of his or her own conceiving. For good measure, comments on rampaging herdsmen were .....................continue reading: https://www.newsvib.com/2019/07/i-never-criticized-buharis-achievements-wole-soyinka.html
