Don't get me wrong I'm all for showing concern for people caught up in the terrorist mayhem in the northern states likewise i am concerned for people caught up in the mayhem  in the South, Eastern and Western states. But that's me, I'm a Nationalists. I'm concerned for all Nigerians equally.  But apparently those people in Benin are not, they are attacking, so we are "informed" here,( ) people or infrastructure they believe are northern. Why?

Edo people are not Ibo, they are not the most christian people in Nigeria so whats their business ?   

Which one, Subsidy, Christianity, Ethnicity or stupidity ?

Was gonna add to the above---- so Gbawe, the fact Ghana people don't protest for anything is due to sophistication. Can i ask if you think that the wall streets protests in America and other protests in Europe are due to the fact that the American and European electorate are less sophisticated than  Ghana people ?

If Ghanaians were in the predicament of Nigerians, I believe they will protest because, over the years, they have , IMO, become more politically sophisticated than Nigerians. they certainly have their issues but are less emotional than Nigerians when it comes to politics IMO. They, for example, won't be falling for any ruse to vote in anyone claiming to have gone without food for a week or swam to school as a boy. They will simply look at your record and argue about it to death. I have seen it in motion , during their elections, for myself.

This is embarrassing. I thought Nigeria would never be infested with this crutch showing madness. Besides, whats the point? I mean, if this uneasy looking Carnival in Nigeria was created to encourage tourism, can i ask why would a Carnival seeking tourist visit Nigeria instead of Carnival expert nations such as Brazil, Trinidad, Spain and many other Caribbean nations?

You'd have thought that Nigeria, so rich in culture, would find some other indigenous devise to lure tourists. Well, if folks back home lack imagination let me venture a few ideas.

1) masquerade:

Why not gather all those various ethnic masquerade, spend time on their masks and costumes, i.e make sure the raffia are thick, tidy and plentiful, get artists to redo the masks.

2) Dances:

we have so many tribal dances. With over 350 ethnic groups in Nigeria, the world would pay to come to Nigeria if we had yearly dance competitions. I mean something well-staged and well paid for. I mean something professionally handled.

3) Durban in North Nigeria


4) Nollywood:

Yearly, hold casting events for blacks around the world for parts in Nollywood movies.

In a sense that which informs tribalism. In other words the divers tribes and the fact that although most Nigerians and  Nigeria itself seems very West oriented Nigerians are in fact greatly informed by their tribal cultures. Indians, Chinese, Japanese and others are informed by their cultures even though they embrace Western Scientific traditions this is one of the reasons they can develop and have a sense of identity.  Nigeria has this same ability to bring something different to the table in the way so many other African nation cant because they have abandoned their tribal cultures in favor of the western ones alone. However its a race a against time for Nigerians are gradually loosing respect for their tribal cultures this greatly accelerated by the westernization of Nollywood films (by this i mean the celebrity culture around the stars and not what is in the film).

Ones if a Nigerian youth couldn't find employment, his cultural values, which more often than not valued strength, honesty, hard work and abhorred laziness, would force him to look for some means of surviving. He might go to the bush cut down tree, make wooden tricycles, ironing boards, statues and all sorts, tap palm wine, make shoes out of car tires, school cases out of beer cans, hew canoes out of logs and put outboard motor and carry passengers. His ingenuity would be boundless.

Now as the Nigerian youth looses his cultural influence, the elders no longer hold cultural sanction over his behavior, and he admires all things western but crucially at the expedience of his traditional value, the habit of blaming others for ones problems instead of the Nigerian value of looking to self now becomes his modosoperande (or however one spells that) and the result is constant moaning, bombing and general procrastination

I think it is unfortunate that Nigerians very much hate their country like this with all the comments i have read here. If any, only few people are asking questions on why the Ghanians were deported. Are we all saying that all Ghanians are angels and incapable of committing crimes? By simply being neighbours, will you allow the man next door turn your room into a gutter? People should be constructive in their crititicm. Those who deported them won't ever do it for the fun of it knowing what the consequences of doing so will be on our international relation with them. Who told Nigerians that Nigerians are not been sent packing also from Ghana if you over stay your welcome or you're in the country illegally? Just take a look at the comments Nigerians have made here and compare them with the ones credited to them brought on this forum by a nairalander. Just look at the hatred they have for us even when 90% of Nigerian are condemning the deportation. While both countries belong to ECOWAS, that is not a license for nationals of either country to commit crimes and be left alone. It is a pity that most Nigerians have lost their self-worth because of what they'll eat. Its a shame!

Whenever I speak with foreigners, the educated ones often state they have full admiration for Nigeria because Nigerians eat their own food and wear their traditional clothes. Nigerians are proud of their culture and know its importance in showing the world that black people have something to offer; that blacks have a third way. Now look at this bush man called president and his wife behaving like Chimps at the Chimp tea party. Too many people in position of power in Nigeria at the moment are acting like bush people who think that suit and tie is civilised whereas it is the exact opposite.

Sophisticated Nigerians have always known that so-called third world people go through phases in development. When they gain independence they go through a first phase when they think aping whites and abandoning traditional culture makes them civilised. For instance they want to wear suits, ball gowns and eat traditional foods with fork and knifes. However as they become more civilised they realise that wearing traditional clothes and valuing their cultural heritage is the most civilised thing to do.

Nigeria went through the primitive stage of aping the west in the early seventies, are we going backwards?

Ghana acts against Nigeria in competitions sometimes remind me of the underdogs mentality. Scots team for instance will run themselves ragged almost to the point of death to beat and English sides in football and often win but then go on to perform poorly in European competitions. Likewise teams in minor league in fa cup against more renown teams.

As for Niger, we have natural talents and self belief that often takes us far but just when we are on the cusp of something great, lack of the appropriate professionalism and approach undoes all the gains and we plummet - nonstop - to the very bottom.

I'd take a native Nigerian's person's teeth over the teeth of Americans or British any day of the week. Healthy Niger food, little to no confectioneries, no burgers and chips, mean Niger people's teeth, by n large, have no cavities or mouth disease. I remember once having to visit dentist in Frankfurt for a chipped tooth after and accident and the dentist was so impressed with my gum and the perfection of my teeth he called other dentists and student nurses to come look.

I cant understand where all this cowardliness is coming from among black youths. Imagine, two 18 year old's ganging up on a mere 15 year old child!Not only that, they use a knife. I know that Nigerians are good fighters but it is a bit ridiculous to be so frightened as to go fight a 15 year old one and to use a knife on him.

Strange, but almost all Nigerian youth killed this way have been very, very young. Its like they are too frightened of Nigerian men so they attack Nigerian babies barley out of pram. Cowards!
