The Alowa of Ilowa-Ijesha in Osun State, Oba Adebukola Alli, on Wednesday appeared before an Osogbo chief magistrates’ court on charge of violation of a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in his domain.

Oba Alli was said to have violated one Miss Helen Okpara, a corps member serving in his domain, on March 25, 2011, at about 6.00 p.m at Rasco Alli Estate, Osogbo.

The traditional ruler, who had earlier been charged at a senior magistrates’ court in March this year, was accompanied to court by one of his wives and was ordered by Senior Magistrate Olalekan Ijiyode to remove his cap, an order he promptly obeyed before the case was eventually transferred to the chief magistrates’ court.

Mr Ijiyode, before transferring the case, had said he had interest in the matter because of the challenges it posed to his position and profession, but stressed that “as a senior magistrate grade 1, I do not have the right to preside over such case.”

The case was eventually transfered to the chief magistrates’ court.

While appearing before Chief Magistrate Akinwumi Makanjuola, where his case was transferred, Oba Alli was accused of committing the offence on March 25, 2011; did unlawfully have canal knowledge of one Helen Okpara, without her consent by means of threat, an offence contrary to and punishable under section 357 and 358 of the Criminal Code Cap 34, Vol 11 laws of Osun State, 2003.

The traditional ruler pleaded not guilty to the alleged offence.

The defence counsel, Mr Tewo Lamuye, argued that the traditional ruler had earlier been arraigned on March 30, before magistrates’ court 3 and subsequently granted bail, adding that the accused was on bail before the matter was transferred to court.

Lamuye prayed the court that on that basis, he wanted the chief magistrate to allow him to continue on his earlier bail granted by the previous court.

The magistrate, Makan-juola granted the traditional ruler bail in the sum of N250,000 and two sureties in the like sum, while the case was later adjourned till August 11.

Some influential members of the Peoples Democratic Party are pushing for the appointment of a former Head of Service of the Federation, Mrs. Ebele Okeke, as a replacement for the outgoing Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Alhaji Yayale Ahmed.

The former Head of Service, who hails from Anambra State, is a trained engineer.

It will be recalled that the Expanded National Caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party, which met in Abuja on Wednesday May 11, had zoned the office of the SGF and Deputy Senate president to the South-East geo-political zone.

Some stakeholders from the zone decried the zoning arrangement, which they claimed did not take into consideration the support the zone gave to President Goodluck Jonathan during the election.

They said they would prefer the office of the Senate President or the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

However, sources close to the leadership of the party told our correspondent in Abuja on Tuesday, that Okeke was already being considered for the SGF job.

A prominent businessman from Anambra State was said to have met with some members of the National Working Committee of the PDP and some close associates of President Goodluck Jonathan on the issue.

Already, she was said to have been contacted by the Presidency and could be screened soon by security agents.

Her candidature was said to have received the blessing of the President, who promised to include more women in his cabinet as from May 29.

It is, however, not clear if Okeke is a member of the PDP or not.

A former Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife has said the office of the SGF should not be undermined.

Ezeife, who spoke with our correspondent on the telephone, described the office as a "pool house of all ministers."

He said, "At this stage, we should stop bemoaning our demotion, but to quickly make use of that position for the betterment of Ndigbo."

I predict ACN trying to access the leadership level of government via coup in disguise of democracy. This is a joke. Jonathan should have zoned the Reps leadership to the southeast with pdp reps as opposed to the south west with acn reps.

This could be the Man for 2015 APGA  Nigeria, only if he can perform. Heaven, Please let him perform heaven.

Philip Emeagwali (born in 1954) is a Nigerian -born engineer and computer scientist/geologist who was one of two winners of the 1989 Gordon Bell Prize, a prize from the IEEE, for his use of a Connection Machine supercomputer to help analyze petroleum fields.

Emeagwali was born in Akure, Nigeria on 23 August 1954.[1] His early schooling was suspended in 1967 due to the Nigerian-Biafran war. When he turned fourteen, he served in the Biafran army. After the war he completed a high-school equivalency through self-study. He travelled to the United States to study under a scholarship after taking a correspondence course at the University of London.[citation needed] He received a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Oregon State University in 1977. He worked as a civil engineer at the Bureau of Land Reclamation in Wyoming during this period. He later moved to Washington DC, receiving two master's degrees from George Washington University in environmental engineering and marine engineering, as well as a third master's in applied mathematics from the University of Maryland.

Emeagwali received a $1,000[2] 1989 Gordon Bell Prize, based on an application of the CM-2 massively-parallel computer for oil-reservoir modeling. He won in the "price/performance" category, with a performance figure of 400 Mflops/$1M, corresponding to an absolute performance of 3.1 Gflops. The other recipient of the award, who won in the "peak performance" category for a similar application of the CM-2 to oil-related seismic data processing, actually had a price-performance figure of 500 Mflops/$1M and an absolute performance of 6.0 Gflops, but the judges decided not to award both prizes to the same team.[3][4] Emeagwali's simulation was the first program to apply a pseudo-time approach to reservoir modeling.[5]

[8] Nevertheless, Emeagwali was voted the "35th-greatest African (and greatest African scientist) of all time" in a survey by New African magazine.[9] His achievements were quoted in a speech by Bill Clinton as an example of what Nigerians could achieve when given the opportunity.[10] He is also a frequent feature of Black History Month articles in the popular press.[11][

Former Finance Minister, Dr. Mansur Muhtar, has been appointed an alternate Executive Director of the World Bank.
Finance Minister, Mr. Olusegun Aganga, made this known Tuesday after a briefing session with Muhtar in his office.
A statement signed by the Minister’s Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Okwudili Ojukwu-Enendu, explained that Muhtar’s appointment, which is a full-time position in Washington DC was a result of the creation of an additional seat for Africa on the board of the World Bank Group.

The statement noted that since November 2010, Africa had three seats on the board and the appointment was one of the direct fallouts of the chairmanship of the World Bank /IMF Group by Aganga in 2010. Aganga was the first African to chair the World Bank/IMF Group.
It added that, “the creation of this third seat for Africa will enhance the voice of the continent at this global body and increase its vote.”
Muhtar’s duties on the board will include the setting of strategic directions and approving policies and programmes of the World Bank Group in the member states; approval of internal policies including human resources; oversight matters in relation to the functioning of the Group’s duties, among others.

By Muhtar’s appointment, Africa now has an additional voice at the highest level that will be involved in the formulation and implementation of the World Bank Group’s programmes in the continent.
The Group plays a very significant role in the economies of virtually all African countries. Foreign investors, donor and credit institutions often insist on the World Bank approval of national economic policies before dealing with developing nations within which category virtually all African nations fall.

Commenting on the appointment, Aganga said given Muhtar’s experience at the African Development Bank (AfDB), the World Bank and as a former finance minister, he (Aganga) could not have recommended a better person for the position.
Aganga said Muhtar knows what the issues are in respect of Nigeria and shall see how to get the best out of the relationship between Nigeria and the World Bank/IMF, bearing in mind the programmes of the Federal Government.
Nigeria is in the same World Bank Group constituency with South Africa and Angola.
Muhtar is an economist, trained at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, University of Cambridge and the University of Sussex. His appointment has a two-year tenure and is renewable.

The controversy surrounding the zoning of political offices in the country and the inability of the South East geo-political zone to win support either for the Senate President or Speakership in the National Assembly, Monday took a new dimension as the All Progressive grand Alliance (APGA) said Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors in the region should be blamed for the woes of Igbo nation.
In a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja, the party decried the dilly-dally approach, saying the PDP is responsible for the out right marginalization of the zone in the distribution of relevant positions in the country.


The statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Bernard Akoma , said: “The political quagmire which the South East geo-political zone seems to have fallen into in the PDP zoning arrangement could be attributed to the short-sightedness and myopic thinking of the political leaders from the zone particularly the PDP governors in the area.”


Blaming the PDP governors for the woes that have befallen the Igbo in the current political dispensation, the party observed with regrets that “It is really unfortunate that these delays are not unconnected with the self centered decision of the PDP governors from the zone not to have any authority higher than theirs representing the zone at the national level. On several occasions the governors have been accused of showing reluctance in supporting interested aspirants from the zone to the position of chairmanship of the party for fear of producing another power base in the zone.”


Though, no mention was made of the governors involved, the statement said “One of them was quoted as exclaiming ‘do you want me to die,’ when called upon to support a candidate from his state for the job. They lean on the frosty relationship which existed between Nwodo and his state governor to justify their actions. “

South east governors Tuesday described as false, misleading and mischievous reports in some national dailies which insinuated that they were opposed to the possible appointment of the immediate past National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Okwesilieze Nwodo, as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) allocated to the zone.
The leadership of the PDP had allocated the position of the SGF and the Deputy Senate President to the South-East in the latest power sharing arrangement.

But the governors of the zone who were said to have vehemently opposed the speculation that Nwodo might be appointed as the Chief Scribe of the Federal Government in their last weekend’s meeting in Enugu denied ever discussing the issue, stressing “there was no mention or discussion regarding the former PDP Chairman”.

The chairman of the Governors’ Forum and Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, represented by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Mike Udah, said the issue of Nwodo or any other person for that position did not come up at all.
“I can confidently tell you that nothing of such came up during the governors’ meeting let alone opposing it,” he noted.
Meanwhile, the Igbo Youth Movement (IYM) said the bickering and disharmony of demands emanating from Igbo land over sharing of political offices could get out of hand if not checked forthwith.

The group in a statement by its leader in Enugu, Elliot Uko, said there is no doubt that the Igbos deserved justice and equity and should be treated fairly. It noted however that caution should be applied over comments regarding the clamour.
“The clamour for senate presidency or speakership of the House of Representatives by the South East is justified. The demand for chairmanship of the PDP and the allotment of the office of the SGF are all welcome by Ndigbo. In fact, we deserve more than all these, having been marginalised for 41 years,” it said.

“We remind Ndigbo that abusing each other has not helped us in the past, and it will not help us now. Desperation over political offices
sends out the wrong message. We have confidence in President Jonathan capability and sense of fair play. We believe he will not short change Ndigbo or any zone for that matter”.

Fashola no doubt will make a very good president someday but not 2015. If anything can be learn't from the last general election, its is that Nigeria is a divided nation.

I personally do not see the Northerners voting for a FASHOLA/NGIGE team come 2015. The Igbos will definately have a candidate under APGA and that will take alot of vote away from ACN.

The North will insist they finish their tenure and that will go on for another 8 YEARS. The igbos will insist the zoning  formular that brought Obasanjo to power be honored and it is unreasonable for another southwesterner to be president following Obasanjo 8 years tenure. The North will argue the presidency cannot remain in the south for 12years since 1999.

Hence you see why the Americans predict a split in the Nigerian nation state come 2015.

Strong words but if you can look outside the box that is Nigeria for a minute then you will understand that anything is possible. It is just a case of knowing the way to accomplish your set out goal.

I personally do not want a novice south-easterner for a President, but someone that is a strong political thinker and knows exactly wat they intend to accomplish, not a trouble maker that is likely to start wars.

Do you understand that? Now whether Nigeria splits or remains united come 2015 is a different story and has no bearing in the south-easterners aspiring to attain that which is their right as Nigerians come 2015.

The only reason their cannot be a southeast  president in 2015 is because their are no credible character present in the governance of Nigeria.

Nobody is stopping us from contending or winning the presidency. We are the ones stopping ourselves come 2015,
