eni4real: The way you people belittle Messi is shocking! Calling him a mere Midget shows that you have forgotten that he is the best La liga player ever, second highest UCL goal scorer and the only player that has more career goal+assist/game than CR7. If truly you respect Ronaldo, in fact you must respect Messi 2 times. Ronaldo is 2 years older in Career but Messi is already setting pace for him. Messi is greater than you imagined! If Higuain(the point man) scored that loose ball, I'm sure nobody will doubt the greatness of Messi because despite dropping deep he still score vital goals in the World cup. Messi will conquer you all, it is a matter of time. u said Messi is the 2nd UCL top scorer of all time... who is all time top scorer then... !!! U won't mention that... by doing that u also disrespect Ronaldo nd makes his achievement hidden. don't be sentimental boss... they set pace for each other. |

zainkay: He's just been voted the world's best player by his peers but there is no doubt that Ronaldo's out of form and will have to step up his game Cristiano Ronaldo is again the best player in the world. That’s a fact even if right now it might not feel like it. Cast your eye around Europe and you get the impression that maybe Lionel Messi or Kevin De Bruyne or Dries Mertens or Thiago Alcantara or Neymar deserves that title more based on their form. CR7 15/8 to be CL top scorer Harry Kane, Robert Lewandowski or Edinson Cavani might claim it on their goals. But it’s Ronaldo; perhaps the only man who can claim to be “The Best” without actually being at his best. "He hasn’t scored as much as Messi up to this moment but he had a wonderful season and won the Champions League," says former Portugal team-mate Nuno Gomes. "At the start of the season he was suspended so he missed a lot of games but I think he’s now coming back. I think he will have a wonderful season again. "For us as Portuguese it’s important to have Cristiano at a good moment to arrive in the World Cup." No doubt Ronaldo’s record of only one goal scored in five La Liga matches is in part responsible for Real Madrid’s underwhelming start to the season. Sunday passed with another relatively anonymous league display, this time against Eibar where he failed to trouble the opposition goalkeeper. He has been in better touch in Europe where his goals against APOEL, Borussia Dortmund and Tottenham have helped Real to top spot in the group but far, far bigger tests are to come. And what Ronaldo has repeatedly shown in the last few years is the bigger the game the more likely he will dominate it. It’s Messi who is the world’s best goal scorer for 2017 with a total of 36 scored but – ultimately – what have they been worth? When Messi scored the late winner at the Bernabeu and held aloft his No.10 shirt for the locals to see, that was an iconic moment. But Ronaldo and Real still won the league – their first since 2012 and half of their first league and European Cup double for 60 years. Besides, Ronaldo has far more iconic moments for the year and far more important ones too. He matched Messi’s shirt-off stunt by netting a stunner in the Spanish Super Cup at Camp Nou. His was far more dramatic. He scored all three goals in the last-ever Liga derby at the Vicente Calderon against Atletico Madrid. That place, and not just the Bernabeu, is his house. He got another treble in the Club World Cup final against Kashima Antlers in December. It was in the Champions League where Ronaldo really earned this award. He scored only two goals in his first eight matches of the competition last season but arguably the greatest factor in Real’s run to the title was Ronaldo’s return to form. He followed up two goals in the quarter-final first leg against Bayern Munich with a hat-trick in the second. He scored another in the opening leg of the first leg against Atletico; another hat-trick that is, not another goal. And then came the crowning glory. Many inside Juventus figured this would be their year to end their own Champions League drought. But the moment Ronaldo scored his first inside the Principality Stadium in Cardiff they must surely have realised the task was too much. Ronaldo has an insistence on embedding himself right into the centre of any narrative. From the moment he slotted his second it was inevitable. Outscored by Messi, out-performed by team-mates who could legitimately claim to be more deserving of this award– Luka Modric chief among them – there is still the reality that any time you glance at a big match on the TV it’s Ronaldo there hogging the screen and the headlines. It’s all well and good netting in August, September and October but the meaningful prizes are not given out until May and June. "I believe Cristiano and Real Madrid will be better after the winter break," says Gomes. "Sometimes for one reason or another, things don’t go well from the beginning. Even when they start not very good they do very well." Madrid as a whole will probably begin to peak in the spring and don’t be surprised when Ronaldo again makes a mockery of the analysis of his form coming this autumn. He has swapped year-long consistency for impact only when it’s all on the line. “The Best” is yet to come. Thanks to Goal.com |

eni4real: Give them Morata, Lewandoski or a good striker like Harry Kane. They will even finish better than Ronaldo in that set-up. Ronaldo only scored 2 goals in the group stage of the UCL, so how did they top thier group? Answer: Anybody can score in that group. Marcelo, Morata, Isco just name it. They were fantastic! That team could score many goals even when CR7 is not in good form. Ronaldo is a great player, no doubt but he really enjoyed legend status in that Madrid team and benefit from many assists that even the "assister" could score if he decided to go solo. Is Messi a better player? You decide! he scored two goals in group stage as well as TEN (10) GOALS IN THE LAST FIVE GAMES OF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE... FIVE AGAINST BAYERN, THREE AGAINST ATLETICO MADRID AND TWO AGAINST JUVENTUS....the capitalized words were what i expect from you to say in addition to only two goals of group stage u mentioned Bros |

eni4real: Madrid beat Juve from the Midfield. CR7 only benefits from the set-up! Madrid did not only break Juve's wall. They play them out of thier positions . Infact all Madrid players deserve to be in FIFpro 11. It is shallow to attribute all Zizou exploit to CR7. Ronaldo only benefits from the set-up! Madrid won the league even in games where CR7 was rested. It is a team masterclass! Messi is a name all Ronaldo fans hate because he is the only player whose career's goal+assists/games stats trump CR7. How someone with such stats at a younger age do not work hard(according to their logic) still amaze me. Ronaldo should pray for another fantastic team work next season because that is the secret of his HARDWORK! when a team plays collectively better, they require one man who will put the ball back the net... nd that is where Ronaldo comes in... |

Luxuryconsult: GBAM.. I tire for them ooo.. I don't know why these people can't just differentiate between a team work and individual performance.. Because barcelona wasn't good last season means Messi is not good. Ronaldo is taking the glory of all the players in real madrid and he is not even praising his team mate for that which it's why madrid is having problem this season.. The likes of isco and ascencio doesn't want ronaldo to be taking their glory.. Abi, after they work hard for you and help you become the highest goal scorer you'd still not thank them instead you'd be competing with messi that doesn't send you up and down. I tire for ronaldo and his fans, ehn. please, i urge you to stand corrected... Ronaldo has never won any award without mentioning or thanking his team mates, coache nd staff...av u ever watch any FIFA THE BEST event or Ballon d Or event.. this could have saved your blind statement... |

DarkRebel69: This is an ignorant statement. Football is a collective sport, not an individual venture. It's not lawn tennis, nor is it sumo wrestling. You don't win Champions League for your club, especially if your club is not one particularly keen on winning.
If Messi didn't win the CL and Ronaldo did, it doesn't make Ronaldo the better performer. It only means Real Madrid as a unit were better than FC Barça. (Which really is why Ronaldo won the award, and not because he was exceptionally bright)
Can you honestly say Messi's performance at the Copa America pales in comparison to Ronaldo's performance at the Euro 2016. Even though Ronaldo won the Euros (he didn't even play full-time in the final) and Messi did not win Copa America, Messi's individual input was far superior to that of Ronaldo. (Portugal as a unit deserve the accolades, not Ronaldo, who was sub-par all through the competition.)
Statistics show that Messi was the better of the two when the individual performances of the both of them are juxtaposed, so I really shouldn't be having this conversation with you. After all, experience has shown that many Nairalanders hardly respond to logic. it's acceptable that Messi is the best of his generation...but you guys seem to blindly ignore the hardwork of a Man who competes with Messi in all ramifications..i can still imagine if Ronaldo was not in Messi era.. Messi could av won the award ten times consecutively. truth be told, kudos to Ronaldo for always wanted to better his last season all the time. saying Ronaldo didn't perform well at Euro 2016 though he performed below his bar was ignorant nd blind statement. don't quickly forget his two goals against Hungary nd his Header against Wales in semi final enroute to the final. Logic is useless when it's attached with sentiment. |

Sanchez01: They are one and the same. It used to be 'FIFA World Player of the Year' award because it was given to males only and women were sidelined from the award. It changed to Ballon d'Or to accommodate a similar prize for the women, hence, 'The FIFA Best Men's player award'. It remains the same till date even though a change of name occurred. someone was making correction nd you were still arguing. Ballon d Or has been awarded to footballers since 1956 by France Football Magazine ..till date which will also hold his own award by December dis year. the FIFA world best player was introduced in 1991. both FIFA world best player nd Ballon d Or come together between 2010 to 2015... that was the award was named FIFA Ballon d Or between that period. unfortunately for both parties, they ended their partnership in 2016... nd FIFA world best player came with another dimension in 2016..nd it is called "THE BEST". to save the argument Ronaldo nd Messi would be said to av won FIFA world best player for Five times each... while Messi still lead Ronaldo in respect of Ballon d Or by five to four... however, Ronaldo will equal the Messi Ballon d Or by December dis year when the award will be presented in Paris France most likely. Wikipedia is your friend!!! |

Sentiments aside, Messi was better than Ronaldo in all ramifications last season. Anyone who would remonstrate with that is wilfully neglecting impersonal logic for mawkish partisanship.
