edicolove: Lol! The oyibos call it misplaced priority. I call it NFA: No Future Ambition. If your post is true about the state of affairs in UNILAG, then you should be rebuking GEJ for simply re-naming the school; he should've shut it down then. By changing the name, if your post is true, GEJ is merely rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. . .Nigeria IS the Titanic! ![]() |
ndahbros1: I strongly disagree wit u. This is a democracy. Aggrieved persons are always encouraged to approach d courts rather than take laws into their hands. Weda dey lose or not is another matter. If every Nigerian stood up for his right like this, we wud hv been in a better situation dan we r now. It wil curtail govt arbitrariness if these boys win in d end.GBAM! Finally, a long-awaited sensible viewpoint - And you're neither supporting nor opposing the name-change sef. The likes of you are becoming a dying breed on NL, and painfully, in Nigeria. |
edicolove: Hmmm, nice argument. But why aint they rather fighting for the very many serious issues that threathen their very existence. Instead they choose name change of all things to show their understanding of their human rights. This your argument is standing on one toe, bro. You need to do more to help it.Those young, civil-minded students chose an area of injustice to redress. Since you know more "serious issues" requiring attention, why don't YOU champion those issues? Oh, I forgot, you are a typical Nigerian who sits on his/her butt and yaps all day with no sense of responsibility. Comot for road jor! |
werepeLeri: LOL. Stop foaming in the mouth like an im becile. You cant even tie my show laces, talkless of talking where I am - I no blame you, this one na cyber space, you can open your dirty mouth and let anything that matters comes out of it. LOL.If you truly have any shoes worth tying, it does not reflect in your disdain for your Alma Mater and level of reasoning. Tells us how you got those shoes! Lay-about! BTW slowpoke is ONE word, not two. See yourself so? Olodo! Also, it's spelled S-H-O-E not "show" O'lboy, you are a disgrace to UNILAG, if you truly graduated from that great skul (really, spelled as "school" but I want to be sure you know what I mean!) ![]() |
Akieagle: Those former unilag stds are not serious.taking fg to court is like taking the owner of the university to courtHere is a scenario - You bring children into the world. Feed them. House them. Fund all their needs. Here is a shortlist of what you SHOULD NOT do to them, even though you brought them to this world: 1) Sexually abuse them 2) Maim them 3) Kill them 4) Malnourish them 5) Endanger them 6) Deprive them of basic education 7) Etc Bottomline: In civil society, absolute power does not lie with an individual on any matter, including the "owner". Unfortunately, we (Nigerians) have been abused by successive govts so much so that we are clueless about the limits of properly constituted power. Even an "owner" has limits in civilized societies, except we're building a different kind of society. |
werepeLeri: Now they are following "due process" abi? Who told them going to the streets was "due process" in the first instance? Silly goats. I attended UNILAG, and who gives a damn if my ex school is now MAU? I dont. If you dont like the new name, change school. Period. You are obviously not proud of your Alma Mater. With your poor graduating CGPA and underachievement after graduation, your Alma Mater is disappointed in you. You fell through the UNILAG crack. Lay-about! |
These MAU students are really sillly. They'd better retire to their books and get busy
Maximus17: can the court do anything especially in our present day Nigeria? Vincent 4: You student better go and sit down....It can never be reversedI don't understand how a civil action by aggrieved parties is being derided. The so-called developed countries where you study/fast/pray/cheat/lie/forge papers to enter are based on civil actions such as these. Why you call them names is beyond me. You are obviously not aggrieved, so butt out. Except of course, UNILAG considered you way below its standard of admission sometime ago and you still bear a grudge! There, I said it; get over it and move on! ![]() |
Maybe in 2 or 3 decades from now, it will finally sink into your thick skulls how you were all acting like rampaging baboons. Goats
Font size and intelligence have zero correlation |
braine: Can students actually defeat government in court?Ordinary men, without government machinery/money defeated powerful, wealthy, sitting PDP governors in courts with a PDP federal government. . .How we forget so soon.
goats
Shuo! These students did not have a hand in your failing to meet UNILAG cut-off marks abeg! Stop hating! ![]() kissmylips: Wats so special wit d name, huh!! Waste of time n resources...SMH100% Bush Meat na im you be! If you don't know what is in an institutional name, you definitely lack substance. . .If GEJ wakes up tomorrow, and with regard to due legal process changes NIGERIA to SHOELESS JOE, you will spew the same crap. . .A very DIM gurl you are |
salaksmana: Who employed the judge? This is Nigeria they should learn to live with that, the last time I checked Unilag's name wasn't the 1st to be change, the name changes nothing so it shouldn't cause any wahala now. They're embarking on a WILD GOOSE CHASEYou better chase down this limited edition tee-shirt because as soon as UNILAG regains its name, this design will be a collectors' item ![]()

Not a fan of IBB, but naming Third Mainland Bridge after him is not far-fetched. IBB gave us the longest bridge in Africa http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_Mainland_Bridge no biggie naming it after him. |
Was harvard not named after an individual ?
New College was founded by Massachusetts Bay Colony two years before John Harvard's death. The colony comprised parts of present-day Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maine, Connecticut, and New Hampshire. Together, the colony gave £400 (big money in year 1636) to start New College. Two years later, John Harvard bequeathed £780, half of his monetary estate, to New College (almost twice what 5 states gave) on his deathbed, and, more importantly, gave his 320-volume library, the school's initial library. To show gratitude to the college's biggest benefactor, Massachusetts Bay Colony renamed it Harvard College. Harvard was a Clergyman who died at the age of 31 years. Now, WTF did MKO do for UNILAG to deserve having the school renamed after him, other than phucking female UNILAG students and putting them in the family way?!? ![]()

Very creative indeed, OP. Problem is, GEJ may just pick up on this thread and promptly effect the changes. Sad.

CuteTj: hehehe! LOL! My bro, im not saying im in support of its change of name . . . But trust Jonathan with the dunce that he is didn't deem it fit to consult with the Governing Council so therefore, i resist the name change myself.Ehen! Spoken like a thoroughbred. Fear catch me small before o. Even those who attended only ONE TERM in Staff School are pained by the purported name change. . .Purported because GEJ is fooling himself; whether now or after we kick him out in 2015, it's Unilag for life! ![]() NLders, go grab your limited-edition T-Shirts (Walahi, I trust Americans - This T-Shirt would have been on sale 5 hours after GEJ's yeye announcement. . .That's how employment gets generated)
|
CuteTj: I attended UNILAG from nursery school all the way to Postgraduate level (all my education has been at unilag) and im not bothered if its name is changed or not.Cute Tj, a Great Akokite?! Ah, you fall my hand! I rest my case with you. If Unilag Womens Society Nursery School, Staff School, International School, and Unilag did not rub-off on you, what more can I say na? Truly, the Fifth Column among us is beginning to emerge. But you are part of a tiny minority of people who can't wait to change their CVs from Unilag to Maulag. . .Tufiakwa! |
Ganys: “Then we find another yawa to keep them busy. The idea is to keep them busy from yawa to yawa till 2015.”Una no go take laff kill person on these serious matters oh! ![]() |
CuteTj: Ure funny. I really don't get what your stress is. Did he snatch your wife? At least he didn't molest any lady nor forcefully married his wives. They willing agreed for him.E no take my wife/GF o! Thank God that by the time I entered the market, it was game-over for him ![]() But don't jump around in your logic - You said he deserved having his name replace Unilag because he gave bursaries and grants, and I just gave you a very shortlist of people who did, and are still doing the same. Should Nigerian universities be named after donors? His non-discriminatory policy on screwing and obsession with fathering as many children as possible are merely a sideshow in this matter that does not disqualify his being honored - The wrong institution was chosen to honor him. That's the point of the post. |
CuteTj: i hope the bolded above has helped in enlightening ignorant people like CANUCK & co. How many ladies did OBJ, Fela, Ojukwu marry? Nigerian culture and tradition allows polygamy. Even average westerners get married more than once in their lifetime so what's the big deal about Abiola's case. His personal and intimate life is of no concern to anybody so i don't see any reason why canuck seems to be obsessed with that aspect of his life.By extension, we should get ready for the following changes: All those who have given bursaries to students and grants to universities deserve to have Federal Universities named after them?!? That's warped. BTW, if any of the bursary recipient is a lady, and MKO came in contact with her, he will phuck her! Na craze?! |
^^^True. He played "Were" music, as a kid (teenager, I think), mainly to raise enough money to eat. |
naptu2: Letter of appreciation from MKO Abiola’s family to President Jonathan!Don't mind those shameless kids. They had an absentee father, who was busy dispersing his wild oats, and lacked proper upbringing. Even in Abacha/Abdulsalam's time, Kola Abiola (the eldest son) was busy flirting with the government collecting contracts - The same establishment that killed his Dad and Mom. They should be pitied. In the UK, Abiola earned a First Class in Accountancy. His kids are PhDs in Sycophancy. |
@Tpia You heard? Really? I thought MKO's exploits with women are well-documented ![]() If this was the US, books, movies and documentaries generating jobs and millions of $$ of wealth would have been made about MKO's philandering ways. I was in high school with 3 of his kids (all from the same uneducated Mom). Their Mom used to be the 17-year old house-girl of one of his wives; and Baba put her in the family way. Three other kids followed. From those Abiola kids, my ears were filled with escapades after escapades about their Dad. . .And the kids were (well-behaved) girls o. MKO's obsession was really beyond s-e-x; it was procreation. He fervently believed (IMHO) that God put him on this earth to father as many children as possible. Until a woman has a child for him, she was a none entity. Once the baby comes - No DNA necessary as they MUST have his massive nose and tobacco-leaf-like ears - the woman gets a house and a certain amount of money (I used to know it) deposited in trust for the child. The kids say that as many as they were at that time, MKO never forgot his kids' birthday. He would call or visit on that day. It appeared that the women he didn't get intimate with were the women he did not approach - He was reputed to have a 100% hit rate ![]() |
^^^Well, NL'ders brought up the comparison saying why the hue and cry about Unilag when Univ. of Ife was changed without drama. GEJ, by renaming Unilag after MKO, attempts to equate both men. In my opinion, Awo was and remains light years ahead of MKO |
@ OP & Beaf - Assuming you're right, and GEJ is one helluva maestro politician - Are you praising him for shifting the national discourse from serious matters to trivialities? Is such an underhanded move, if true, worth commending? |
^^^Your laughter is making me laff |
OK, a bit of sarcasm, but women was his passion every waking moment. Sports, chieftancy titles, etc, came after that ![]() The point of the post is that naming an established academic institution after a man who was renowned for other aspects of life flies in the face of common sense. The most lingering legacy of Cheif Abiola was what he died for - But politics no gree GEJ do the right tin. If GEJ desperately wanted Chief Abiola's name in Unilag, he should have built a female hostel and named it after him. |
Chief Obafemi Awolowo, a lawyer, economist, and lawyer, was legendary in Africa for his unassailable exploits in education. The establishment of mandatory FREE education in the Western Region of Nigeria laid the solid foundation of development in that part of the country. Naming former University of Ife after him was a no-brainer as most of the school's Professors, and a whole generation in that part of the country (and other non-Yoruba residents) traced their successes to Chief Awolowo's legacy in education. Chief Moshood Abiola, accountant, publisher and businessman, was legendary the world over as a seducer of women and philanderer. The female anatomy attracted him, enchanted him, mesmerized him and ensnared him. He lacked an education development pedigree, except for pretense, to put young, poor and innocent girls in the family way. A female hostel, in line with his prowess and exploits among women, should have been built and named after him. Chief Abiola looooooooooved women. It would have been a fitting honor. From poor unlearned girls/women to PhD holders, Chief Abiola had them all. Chief Abiola's other exploits, is sports, and in the last phase of his life, was politics. The recognition should have been in those areas, not education, but GEJ is obviously too insecure to recognize Chief Abiola politically. So for those saying, "Why should a university be named after Awolowo and not Abiola?", this is my opinion. Let's hear yours. |
The answer is overwhelmingly obvious - He is kicking his own face |
Why doesn't GEJ build a hostel (UNILAG, like several Federal Universities, suffer from acute accommodation shortage) and name it after MKO?!? That way, Abiola will be in the league of Jaja (King of Opobo), Moremi (a revered Princess of the Yoruba people), Amina (the legendary and powerful 16th century Queen of Zaria) etc, who have hostels in UNILAG named after them. Abi where is all the Subsidy savings that brought the nation to her knees in January? |
This goes to confirm what I've always suspected - GEJ is surrounded by advisers with weak educational pedigree - He does not have a single UNILAG grad on his team! ![]() Greeeeeeeeeat Moshoodites! Kai! God forbid o. Dis one na death! I reject this with everything holy and powerful!
|
GEJ has a PhD. . .Enough said. |
Great-Great-Grand-Father Mugabe just woke up from a loooong snooze ![]()
