dahonestboss: Nice one. have you heard of MAD (mutual assured destruction)? I doubt Russia will not be able to nuke US back to a point of destruction, those nuclear weapon doesnt exist for fun.
The lunatics in Washington have convinced themselves that the first strike will completely knock out Russias ability to respond in essence Russia will be rendered militarily impotent therefore MAD will no longer be an issue

The Us are planning a nuclear first strike on Russia and they are looking for an excuse to go ahead with their plan , the us are fabricating stories in order to sway public opinion in their favour. They believe they have the military superiority to hit Russia first and then block russias response with their defense shields (abm's) but experts are saying that the blow back from the first strike will destroy the world as we know it, will the Americans be crazy enough to trigger armaggeddon?

bookface: Again, it all comes down to what tools are available to each country!

China has been buying up several African lands and European businesses. They buy up US treasuries and London houses. The theory remains the same. Once you have economic prowess, the next goal usually is to achieve total control. The Romans tried it. The Japanese tried it. The Soviet tried it. The Germans tried it. Now the Americans are at it. Their are no innocent parties here, there are no victims. Only interests. Every country wants to be able to influence another country. This is why both Russia and US are at logger heads.

Russia does not want to see itself as a "former global power" - it still seeks influence in the former soviet states and if possible it will like to unseat US as a security apparatus in Europe. This is why Medvedev proposed an European Security Treaty about three years ago. US knows that if Russia unseats its position in Europe, then it faces a global decline - So as much as possible, the US will try to cast Russia in the worst possible light, possibly even as a threat so that Europeans can see the essence of NATO and neutral players such as Finaland and Sweeden will reconsider their stance.

There are no innocent party and it's all a fair game. The cold war never really ended.
The us is an imperialist aggressor who seeks to invade and exploit weaker nations and steal their resources while China and Russia seek peace and trade

NairaMinted: Exactly! At this is the reason for those ABMs in Eastern Europe and the so-called "Asia Pivot" aimed at checking the emergence of China as a regional power. Vassal staetes such as Australia have agreed to have US marines establish bases on their soil; the US is opening new bases and re-opening old ones across Vietnam and the Phillipines. Their plans though have suffered a setback in Thailand with the military unseating the Wall Street servient government of Sinawatra. You should read the plans for Asia with the Brookings Institute's "String of Pearls.

Folks, there are dark days ahead!
I think putin should call the United States bluff and expose them for what they are, also how can the us think it can defeat both Russia and China

NairaMinted: I am only hoping certain countries such as Germany will snap back to their senses. Britain is a foregone, lost cause. The only hope humanity has in stopping Washington in its tracks and lust for war is in Germany and perhaps some other reasonable European country...
The us are now so desperate to nail Russia that they wont mind shooting down more planes containing citizens of countries that refuse to back this their proposed suicidal war with Russia so I think because of this Germany will fall into line

The setting up of a devt bank by the brics nations has now placed Russia and China on a direct collision course with the us and the Us re now desperate as this will ultimately bring about the demise of the us dollar as the world reserve currency
desperation is very dangerous if the us dont get their way they are determined to take the world to a war which may result in a thermonuclear Holocaust for humanity

In other countries they provide sanctuaries for endangered species, at the rate that Nigerians kill wild animals 100 years from now none will be in existence, we do everything upside down. They only attack when you encroach on their territory, stop building houses in the middle of swamps there is plenty of land elsewhere in lagos.
if you cant respect an animals right to exist find somewhere else for it to live in peace.

In Burkina Faso they have crocodile sanctuaries that generate revenue for the country as tourist attractions, Nigerian leaders lack foresight and vision:

tensor77: Well my issue with you is that you hold on to this idea of perpetual victimhood. I believe that the African Americans have been able to overcome this legacy of slavery even if some of their adversaries don't stop reminding them of it. Playing the victim card leads nowhere.
We have had the Martin Luther King civil rights movement which led to the ending of segregation, we have had the affirmative action which is a form of quota system favourable to ethnic minorities.
The legacy they should inherit is the legacy of an overcomer.
And my issue with you is that you prefer to live in denial. A person who has experienced trauma, exploitation and abuse as a result of white supremacy IS BY DEFINITION A VICTIM.

There is no shame in admitting that one is a victim of circumstances that he or she has no control over.

To say that I hold on to victimhood is to deny reality and seek solace in a world built on fantasy.

The beginning of wisdom is the acceptance of reality, clearly your vision and your sense of reality is distorted.

Martin Luther King's civil rights movement did not end de facto segregation, notice that I said de facto which means "in actual fact" , the fact that all black people can now eat in the same restaurant as a white person does not change the fact that a white person with the same educational qualifications or less is likely to earn more than a black person with the same abilities.
It also does not change the fact that for a black person to be considered for a job he has to be twice as competent as a white person and willing to take a pay cut.

Here is a video clip for you to ruminate over - this is how the white man's mind works, this is why he continues to outwit many of us including you:

But truly slavery can no longer be held as an excuse. I don't know of any serious intellectual in America uses that as an excuse. We shouldn't get things twisted and be very honest. Forget about the extreme views of posters like Cap28.
The single cause of the challenges in black America is neither racism or slavery but the breakdown of the family unit.
Tensor what is your understanding of the word "legacy".

the dictionary defines legacy as anything handed down from the past, as from an ancestor or predecessor for eg: the legacy of ancient Rome.

Wealth can be handed down to future generations and poverty, ignorance, illiteracy and backwardness can also be handed down - now if your ancestors were discriminated against, banned from educating themselves by law, banned from owning land by law, banned from setting up businesses by law, banned from voting in order to change their situation by law, what kind of legacy do you think you would inherit from such ancestors?

mad nigerian: Off topic...but that is not necessarily true. The good thing about colonialism is that it left us exposed to Western education. It is what you do with the Western Education that determines how you progress as a nation.
Respectfully, I disagree with you for the following reasons...
1.South Korea in 1958 was an economic basketcase. Then in 1961....they got a millitary ruler called Park Chung hee....who was a brutal thug(he was shot dead in 1981)..but a brutal thug with an idea for industrial development. First he improved South Korea's transport infrastructure, then he startedand completed South Korea's Ajaokuta (a steel complex) in 1971....which jumpstarted their developemt. Plus, the heavy emphasis on education...something it has in common with China and Japan....and hence why it is developed.
2.Congo had a LOT of problems....begining with a small educated elite, and an army that by independence had all white officers(Nigeria by independence already had Black Nigerian generals).
As for Mobutu...the problem was not that he looted but in the way he used the loot. Mobutu came topower around the same time as Suharto of Indonesia....both were put in place by the West. Yet, Indonesia,by the 90's while not developed, was far better than Congo DR (In the 90's both Mobutu and Suharto were kicked out.) That was because Suharto used his loot to invest in Indonesia. Mobutu took his loot to invest in castles in Europe. The result was that Suharto had to develop indonesia....or else his investments would be damaged.....while Mobutu had no desire to develop Congo....all his money was abroad.
You see.....the problem with African leaders is not who supports them, or what ideology they yarn.....but how they lead.
As for the US....I am sure that they would have preffered a much more developed Congo than the mess Mobutu made it into. Because, when foreign companies invest in a country....they prefer that everything works. And I would argue that Mobut made things more difficult for his Western backers, rather than easy.
One more thing.....Black countries are rich in natural resources....while Korea, Japan and even China have little or not enough resources...so they have to become Industrial. African countries , on the other hand, prefer to flog their resources to the highest bidder...and sell same to earn maney..which is 'shared'.....leading to violence...and more underdevelopment.
And another thing. .....Korea has sucessful family run industries....like Hyundai and Daewoo. Nigeria ? Our family industires are run by men who get rich quick, then marry 'wives' who produce children, who are spoilt, and as soon as pappy dies.....share the loot.
Well, yes, we are hardworking.....but to what end? That is the question.
True....though(I speculate here)...balck businesses fail because of poor business planning.
No, because Asians work harder, and have better business sense. We should look at why they succeed and follow them.
WEstern education merely transformed us into docile robots who unquestioningly follow the dictates of our white masters. Christianity came along and put the final nail in the coffin of our collective psyches. We are nothing more than glorified slaves of the white men. WEstern education taught us not to question anything and accept the white man as our lord and saviour.

What can you do with an education that was designed to keep you in perpetual slavery? Don't you see how our leaders behave when they are in the presence of Europeans and americans?

Development in South Korea would never have got off the ground if the united states was not in support of it - how come the same helping hand was not extended to Nkrumah when he approached Eisenhower for financial assistance in the development of the Volta dam in the 1960s ? Why was Nkrumah railroaded into accepting a world bank loan which put Ghana onto the road of indebtedness and financial ruin? Unless you want to tell me that Park Chung Hee was a greater visionary than Nkrumah. Please lets stop lying to ourselves and face up to the reality, Nkrumah had grand plans for Ghana which were openly scuppered by the United States govt along with the CIA.

How about Burkina Faso - why was Thomas Sankara assassinated by French intelligence operatives? Do you think it might have had something to do with his plans to make Burkina Faso an economically independent country and loosen France's control over its economy?

Congo had problems , but who created the problems? Wasn't it King Leopold of Belgium that annexed this country in 1885 and transformed it into his personal property?

Wasn't it this same Leoopold who enslaved millions of Congolese and forced them to work on rubber plantations? Wasn't this rubber exported to Belgium and the proceeds of its sale used to develop Belgium whilst Congo was left undeveloped?

Don't get me started on the genocide that he perpetrated on that country which resulted in the deaths of over 10 million Congolese people. In a nut shell Belgium, the US and the rest of Europe owe Congo a huge debt and the least they could have done was help rebuild the country but instead they chose to destroy it with the help of one of their puppets. Mobutu was recruited and assisted by Europe and America what is the point of talking about the way he looted, the issue is not how he looted but WHY he was even allowed into that position in the first place.

Indonesia is not a country that I think you would wish to emulate, are you aware that Suharto under instructions from the CIA eliminated over 2 million people in a space of less than a year?

The CIA drew up lists of people who were suspected of being communist sympathisers and these lists were handed to Suharto who instructed his thugs to systematically torture and kill these people - this is well documented in a documentary/film called "The Act of Killing" google it and see the horrors that were perpetrated on innocent people in that country. Anyone who wanted a fair chance in life by way of a more equitable system under a socialist/communist govt was butchered by Suharto's killers - is that what you wish for Nigeria? By the way this was done so that the US and Europe could implement neo liberal economic policies without having to worry about opposition groups within the country.

Yes, Suharto developed the country but only because he was told that in doing so he would be given a big share of money that would be generated from foreign investment, Suharto's regime was one of the most corrupt and brutal dictatorships in the world but the west turned a blind eye because of the huge returns they were making on their investments.

Have you asked about the price the indigenous people had to pay - the only beneficiaries were Suharto and his cronies and thugs while ordinary people (that is the ones who survived the death squads) ended up working in sweat shops making products for western multinationals - is that your idea of progress?

If the US truly wished for a more developed Congo why did they assassinate Lumumba who for all intents and purposes was more than willing to go down the route of development of the country?

Black countries do not prefer to flog their resources to the highest bidder - sankara of Burkina faso wanted to control the resources of his country himself and this earned him a bullet in the head, Lumumba the same thing, Gbagbo wanted to limit france's involvement in ivory coast's economic devt , this ended up with ivory coast being invaded by france and his subsequent arrest and deportation and imprisonment.

Qadaffi though not a black African incurred the wrath of Europe and America when he refused to allow their oil companies set his crude oil prices and take over the running of Libya's banking system. Prior to the invasion and devastation of Libya by NATO, Libyans enjoyed the highest standard of living on the African continent.

The pattern is the same throughout Africa - European and American exploitation of black Africans.

I always like to hear from black people who have had the longest contact with whites - An African American's view on white people and how they think:

Much that goes on in the hearts of white Americans is a mystery to me. They do not think like me. What follows is my take on those in the broad middle in 2008. Some are better than this, but some are far worse:

Almost all white Americans are racist. The truth is it is very hard to grow up in America without becoming racist – no matter what colour your skin is. Blacks are racist too.

Whites seem to think that so long as they do not join the Ku Klux Klan and do not use certain words they are not racist. They are blind to their own racism because it does not affect them.

White people barely think about black people. It is like in those television shows where everyone is white except the judge. Most live in an all-white world, like on “Friends”.

Most do not even see themselves as white – they are just people. After all, they do not speak English with an accent, eat special foods or observe strange holidays. Everyone else does, but not them!

White people generally give each other the benefit of the doubt, but they do not extend it to blacks.

If you are black you are constantly doubted in their eyes. They think you are:
less moral than you are,
less hard-working than you are,
less talented than you are,
less trustworthy than you are,
less honourable than you are,
less intelligent than you are,
less rich than you are,
less well-read than you are.

You have to be twice as good before they can even begin to see past your blackness.

Whites might think you are better at dancing or sports, that you are even cooler than they are, but do not be fooled: at the very same time they will also think you are more violent and immoral than they are and have less education and money too.

Rather than giving you the benefit of the doubt on these points until they find out more, like they do with well-dressed white people, they will just assume.

If you are different from white people, they seem to think there must be something wrong with you – even if they cannot say what. And if you are black, they seem to think you were born with a crack in your soul.

There has been progress: the whites who look at me with hate in their eyes are mostly older ones. To some degree younger whites are better at hiding their racism, even from themselves, but it seems like the old heat is gone from them.

But things like certain rap videos do not help: they play right into the worst ideas whites have about blacks as being violent, oversexed, ill-mannered and not particularly bright.

Neither does the near invisibility of the black middle class help. Nearly half of black America is now middle-class – something you would never know from watching television.

I hope my grandchildren will not understand this post. No one should have to.

tensor77: I don't know what you are on about. That also is their choice remember They don't have to remain as security guards or kitchen porters but even if they do what has that got to do with racism when their contemporaries that came over as post graduate students or highly skilled migrants still got very good jobs.
What are you on about Cap?
im sure if you interviewed a Nigerian graduate who was working as a security guard in tescos he would never tell you that it is his choice to do that job.

choice arises when you have options - many Nigerian immigrants do not have many options in this country. Obtaining qualifications is all well and good but make sure the course you are doing has a shortage of indigenous applicants first. The only profession that I am aware of that falls within that category are the medical sciences and even then a Nigerian immigrant has to compete with Asians, arabs and eastern Europeans who do you think out of that group a white employer will choose first?

How many Nigerian immigrants who studied in Nigeria go on to do highly paid professional jobs in the UK? compare that number to those who end up in dead end jobs that the whites and black british don't want and you will arrive at the true situation of most Nigerians in the UK.

Majority of these Jamaicans have never been able to break out of this working class mould due to their own aspirational issues and educational challenges not to talk of family breakdown.
Nigerians come here as professionals not traders. There is no issue with that really as the UK is large and developed to employ these professionals with good salaries.
The majority of Nigerians who started coming to this country from the 1990s onwards came as economic refugees fleeing the economic policies of the IMF that were implemented by IBB in Nigeria, this group started doing the unskilled jobs that the second generation west Indians would not do eg working in the London underground, security guards, hospital porters etc.

Segzy23: That is because Africans are not entrepreneurial as Asians. That is the truth. I see how they do their business, they help each other out and they understand what it takes to be a businessman/woman. See, if whites are more inclined to help Asians, it is because they are doing better. If you are a consultant, you will be more inclined to help clients who have a partial solution to their problems than those who are clueless about their problem. That is the way it works.

If they see blacks or a certain group of people as not working hard enough, or lazy, then they will be more willing to help others who are hardworking. Why do you think in black areas, when an African opens an African store/shop, and an Asian opens another store near buy selling the same stuff, more black people tend to buy their African stuff from the Asian shop. Why is that happening? Also, from my observations, most of the supplies to the African shops are done by Asian. Why are blacks not supplying black stores?
That's not true, Africans are entrepreneurial especially Nigerians, but the problem is that we are living in a world where the odds are stacked against us.

The bottom line is that the European would rather aid the progress of an Asian rather than an African.

I will use South Korea as an example - in the 1950s the united states actively assisted this country in its economic development in order to ensure that it did not fall under communist control from china, compare that to the US's involvement in DRC in the 1960s.
DRC has an estimated mineral wealth of $24 trillion, the US rather than aid in the development of that country preferred instead to overthrow a democratically elected prime minister (Lumumba) and impose a corrupt dictator (MObutu) who presided over the economic destruction of that country for over 30 years - what stopped the US from applying the same economic policies that they applied in South Korea to DRC? It is apparent that the Europeans do not want to see the progress of the black African race but would rather over see the wholesale destruction and ra.pe of us and our resources.

Blacks historically are hardworking people, we were instrumental in building the white man's industrialised societies.
Lazy people are not enslaved.

The issue of Asians opening shops in black areas is a big problem which needs to be addressed by black people, as far as I am aware no black person can set up shop in an Asian neighbourhood and expect to be successful so I see no reason why Asians should be allowed to run flourishing businesses in black neighbourhoods, especially given the fact that Asians can not stand black people.

I think the reason blacks patronise Asian shops in black areas goes back to the low self esteem we collectively suffer whereby we accord more respect to foreigners than to each other - this is a legacy of slavery and colonialism.
TravelRe: USA Or England: Which Is The More Racist Country? by cap28: 4:43pm On Jan 01, 2014
PocketEconomist: Hmmm, i see. So you are telling me that a highly skilled black population will still be at a disadvantage? The Asian americans are doing very well in CA(LET ME TALK THE ONE WEY I KNOW) That's because they are the most educated minority group. Education is a starting point, the next point would be to harness entrepreneural skills and with many educated blacks, the effects will be praiseworthy.
Asians in the united states are regarded as honorary whites and are treated better than BLACKS, meaning they stand a better chance of succeeding in a white supremacist system , the same thing applies here in the UK with Asians (Indians, Pakistanis) having access to better jobs and other opportunities than blacks (Africans and carribeans).

Africans are just as well educated as Asians but do not fare as well as them in the US and UK.

Afam4eva: Bunkum!

Those people are where they are because they worked for it. The American society gave them that opportunity to succeed which they have done and that opportunity is available to a lot of black people via affirmative action but only the sensible ones are making use of it. We can't keep blaming the white people forever. They used their own hand to stop slavery, segregation and have put black people at an advantage due to the injustice done them in the past and common sense suggests that i will take a lot of time before Black people will catch up with the whites and there's progress in that regard else Barrack Obama wouldn't be the president of America. The truth is still remains that black people in America tend to be more successful than their counterparts in the UK and that's because the society affords them that. You can't say that society is racist, can you?
Affirmative action is being dismantled in many states in America because whites are against it and do not want blacks to catch up with them in terms of jobs and education.

Slavery was abolished because the northern states of the united states wanted to dominate the economically weaker southern states. The only way they could do this was by abolishing slavery, also north America was at the beginning of an industrial revolution and their industrialists needed large numbers of workers to operate the machinery in their factories hence the need to abolish slavery and move former slaves up north to man the machinery. It didn't make much difference as Blacks were still treated terribly even after the abolition of slavery and had virtually no rights.

Obama does not represent the interest of black people in America as he was selected and groomed for that position by the white establishment. Obama represents the interests of the elite banking institutions. The average black person in America has never had access to the kind of opportunities that were open to Obama.

The average black person in America is likely to be better off than the average black person in the UK but that's not because america is a fairer society but because it is richer with a higher standard of living.

PocketEconomist: i repeat, what are the black people doing to address the issue. The key to success is education. A lot of black males i know dropped out of school. Is it white people that chased them out? After all, public education is free and qualitative up to high school level. So why drop out? This is just one of the factors holding them down.
How do you address an issue when you have no political or economic power. You can have all the education in the world but if its the same oppressor that you have to go cap in hand to ask for a job how are you in a stronger position?

Blacks do not own any substantial businesses in the US, don't even bother mentioning the UK. Power comes from ownership of the means of production, education is all well and good but if at the end of the day you are still going back to the same slave master to beg for a job what does that mean?

The key to success is education IF the people doing the hiring are of the same race as you. Unemployment amongst young black people in the UK is running at over 50%, many of these youths are university graduates. I am told similar figures apply in the UK.
TravelRe: USA Or England: Which Is The More Racist Country? by cap28:
PocketEconomist: Why the black in the USA remain down is because they CHOSE to be down. They say slavery, bla bla bla. My people (IGBO) lost everything 40 years ago, were excluded covertly from a lot of things, coupled with an unfair quota system(a hausa man score 50 stands a better chance than an igbo man who scores 110 in national exams) but we refused to be down, we fought our way through and 40 years later, we are better off economically and educationally. If the Afro americans can adopt such attitude, they will be better off.
How do you fight a system where racial discrimination is legal?

Black americans could not fight Jim Crow because it was lawful to exclude blacks from equal access to jobs, housing and access to loans.

In the 1940s Roosevelt introduced access to cheap mortgages which gave working class whites access to cheap loans in order to buy houses in the suburbs, blacks were excluded from this BY LAW.

Igbos were not excluded from jobs, schools and housing by law, they were not confined to segregated parts of Nigeria and they were not denied the right to vote there is therefore no comparison between what igbos went through after the civil war and what blacks in America had to endure 100 years after the abolition of slavery.

Afam4eva: It's also imperative to note that the racism in the UK is more institutional than it is personal. There's an extent to which a black person or a foreigner can progress in the UK. That's why you don't have the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Obama, Condeleza rice etc in the UK. More black people keep getting to the top in the US unlike the UK.
The likes of Condoleeza Rice, Oprah and Obama were allowed to get to where they are by the white power structure. This was done intentionally in order to pacify the masses of angry black americans who were rising up against the system of white supremacy in the 1960s.

These people are a small minority and in no way represent the majority of black americans who are marginalised and discriminated against by white society. They are used by white society to make blacks feel that progress is being made but in reality these people's success has no impact on the life of an ordinary black person in America. Obama cant even pass laws that will redress the years of inequality that blacks have faced in America because if he does the white backlash will be so extreme that he will have to make an immediate u turn.

Both socieites practice institutionalised racism which is racism which permeates all aspects of human life - employment, education, entertainment, sports, judicial system as long as you are black in either of these societies sooner or later you will face racism in some form or another.

More black people are in lower paying jobs, prison, poor housing and have a lower life expectancy in life compared to their white counterparts in the UK and US.

PocketEconomist: oh that's interesting. And what are we doing about it? We are busy tearing each other down. We should learn from the Asians. If you school in the US, and you see the relationship between the Asians, especially the indians, pakis and koreans, and see the relationship between the Nigerians, you would be ASHAMED to be Nigerian. Truth hurts but must be told.
I agree, we are a divided people, and that's why we continue to lose out. One thing we have failed to realise is that we are on our own, everyone else sticks together and helps each other except us, we would rather help outsiders than help each other.
