Nkrumah was crushed. The aluminum industry would have done for Ghana what the steel industry had done for the United States. Nkrumah ultimately had to agree to America's terms if he wanted the dam to be built, but as an additional stipulation, he had to raise $30 million on his own.

He sought help from the World Bank, an operation initially set up to fund the recovery effort in post WWII Europe, but which later became a source of funding for the rest of the world. Nkrumah's young new country was now indebted to the World Bank, and the dam became a leash by which the United States could control Nkrumah and exploit the country.

Would it be fair to say that Nkrumah was a failure after reading the above excerpt?
Why did the US company chose to import bauxite rather than buy directly from Ghana where it had sited its aluminium smelting company?

Many people in the West are lonely and live a double life, especially black people in the entertainment industry. Honestly, when I first saw the trailer of the movie on worldstarhiphop a few weeks ago - I just checked it out cos I saw Idris Elba and the title "Beast of no nation" ( as you know I'm a big fan of Fela's music). I initially thought the whole thing was a black diaspora thing, using Fela's phrase, to tell a story of Sierra Leone - with Idris Elba playing his roots. I checked it out and Idris Elba killed the Krio accent and it was basically the same Sierra Leonean child soldiers story.

Then a few days later I saw the same thing on NL - and boom, it was an Iweala family thing. I just posted a comment about Idris Elba and how he killed the Krio accent, and left the thread. I didn't really want to get into the whole Iweala family's madness, before these simple-minded useful idiots start accusing me of jealousy and bigotry. I honestly don't know what's special about writing a stale story about child soldiers, to be honest.

Apart from the title which is intellectual theft - the storyline of the movie's basically more of Sierra Leonean child soldiers, that has already been told many times, with Idris Elba as the main character (due to his Sierra Leonean ancestry) than anything else. Nothing spectacular or original - just intellectual theft everywhere, without originality.

Absolutely. Nigeria women are just not conscious of the danger they are in. The energy we are supposed to use to protect ourselves in or out of marriage, we have expended the energy to fight to become a Mrs. Somebody.
