PAGAN 9JA:
you will see many soon. we are not boko haram and are not meant to be. some things have just gone wrong in recent times.

many of us practice openly. some of us do it in private due to problems. our Hausa muslim neigbours are aware but they generally overlook it. sometimes the fanatic ones try to make attempts to convert us especially mosque leaders, local imam, etc.

recently we have seen a large influx of european christian missionaries into our areas who are trying hard to convert us. but the muslims drive them away because being Hausa, they prefer us to christans. it is a very strange balance right now but our condition can worsen anytime soon. more prone to christian conversions are those in the extreme East areas near Niger, Kotangara, etc. there are other Hausa sub-tribe too , with their own version of Hasua religion. the demand for us generally rises during important festivalsm durbars of emirs, Saarkis, etc. this is because we represent the real Hausa and know the right way to display culture. Our priests even bless the annual Argungu Fishing Festival.
Interesting, though I am a catholic Christian, i believe in freedom of religion including traditional religions. We have them in abundance in my village (igbo). I will suggest pushing ur religion for national recognition and your fetival days given some kind of holiday

wirinet: I am perplex by your post above, it does not qualify as a debate or argument. It is just an incoherent blabber. You left the topic at hand and started blabbing nonsense.

Let me respond to your personal attacks.
1. I am not young and anything but ignorant. I am sure i am older and more educated than you. I hold a masters degree in architecture, i studied extensively histories of african societies through their architecture. So i appreciate arab and european influences on our culture much more than you could ever do.

2. I honestly do not know how you came to these assumptions or how it has any bearing to the topic at hand. Are you sure you did not type the above after an abuse of a banded substance?

3. Repetition of no. 1, so refer to my answer for no. 1.

If you want to educate me that the Oyo empire was created before the coming of the Europeans that is before the 14th century, why not show me the link or refer me to the book. That is what a supposedly educated person would do.
Mr man why are you taking the lazy route by telling me to provide u with links? do research oga. its even right under your nose.

Even to insinuate that there were no wars btw african tribes before the coming of whites is disgusting.

Even in my own town i have heard of wars being fought over land with neigbouring towns and how slaves were captured and made to serve deities b4 they evey saw whiteman.

pls do the homework i gave u. and i didnt say u should study their buildings.
Christianity EtcRe: Ancestral Religion Versus Imported Religions by capricon: 4:15pm On Sep 21, 2012
wirinet: My friend you lie or you are simply ignorant. Let me repeat load and clear "THERE WERE NO WARS IN BLACK AFRICA BEFORE THE COMING OF THE WHITE MAN - ARABS AND EUROPEANS". Even the wikipedia link you provided shows islamic influences in the first empires in black africa - songhai, mali and kanem bornu empires.

The Benin and Oyo empires were the influenced by the Europeans, who armed the kings to the detriment of their neighbours, first for slave trade and later for agricultural trade.

Before the white man came an african had no need to conquer and dominate his neighbour. That was why we had so many small tribes cohabiting within a small geographical space.

So please give me just one example of pre-arab/european war in black africa.
I will assume you are one of these things
1. you are young and ignorant

2. All u do with yourself is drink, party and chase after women just to satisfy ur urge

3. illiterate

well let me give a little home work. Go and read about the OYO empire and their wars with the NUPE and DAHOMEY kingdom and even the rebellion of EGBAS from the oppressive OYO kingdom.

pls do not reply till you have read it.

forster: The bible especially the old testament is nothing but the history of the jews. It therefore baffles me why any same man would choose to propagate another man's at the expense of his own history as is the case in africa.
That africa is underdeveloped today is cos we have chosen to abandon our histoty/ tradition and run after an alien religion and culture. Asian countries are where they are today cos they held tightly to their religion/ culture and refused to trade them for any other.
Time has come for africa to retrace its steps cos if we continue in this direction we are headed we would always play 3rd class citizen in the affairs of the world.
I don they tell them since but they no wan hear.

MacDaddy01: Please, you rely on that Wikipedia quote to learn about Yoruba history? That yoruba people had slaves which they sacrificed? lolololol. Or were they sacrificing enemies from other tribes or tribal wars? Is Dahomey in Naija?

Lmao. Are you a yoruba person? If not, go and ask Yoruba peeps to educate you.

As for the main point why are you trying to reduce the chattel slavery of yur religion. Did yorubas ship(like the christian Europeans did to Africans) each other like sardines so close that they shyt on each other? Did they chain and whip them to work on farms?

My dear friend stop castigating the christians and Arabs. Africans were also involved in slavery either by capturing or buying and selling. You know so much about foreign slavery because they had books which documented it whereas Africa never documented it in written form but had only oral tales. SLAVERY NA SLAVERY whether servant or watever. Hell there is even modern day slavery and nobody is talking about it. Example.

1 you work for a company for months without pay
2 you hire a househelp and pay peanut or promise to train her but dont or take her to local school which ur children will never attend.
3 Abuja people take your oil and enslave your people to poverty. Hence millitants like MEND spring up to EMANCIPATE YOUR PEOPLE.

It is easy to blame others while we are also involved.

Your christian religion is a slave religion
Christianity EtcRe: Ancestral Religion Versus Imported Religions by capricon: 8:09am On Sep 21, 2012
MacDaddy01: Liar. There is no record of slavery in West Africa before foriegners. Prisoners of war were beheaded or killed. In my village, it is called efa. In the past, enemy tribes were sacrificed or killed. Slaves were never sold as a commodity.

Farm labour came from the wives and the many children of men in those days. Why would we need slaves? Even the king had servants and the servants had their own living quarters and did not serve in chains where I come from in Niger delta.

Keep lying against you ancestors to protect your foriegn religion
My friend life does not begin and end in your little village efa. Try to broaden your scope at least thank God for the
internet. You are from niger delta yet you know nothing of Benin empire and slave trade.

My dear brother slave na slave whether them live for quarters or not why did he need them if he had wives and children
to do farm work? And they were even castrated to avoid sleeping with obas wive shocked . Did the Oba not get buried with his "SERVANTS"

Slaves never worked in chains but were only used when captured and transported.

Do some homework and get back to me.
Christianity EtcRe: Ancestral Religion Versus Imported Religions by capricon: 7:22am On Sep 21, 2012
wirinet: Black Africa never practiced slavery before the coming of the Europeans and Arabs, like religion and language, slavery was imposed on black Africa. There were also no record of wars in pre-colonial black Africa, we were sold weapons and taught how to kill and conquer each other.
Yes there were wars before the coming of europeans and Arabs. History is filled with them. oyo empire was constantly at war with dahomy and Nupe kindom and constantly tried to expand its territory. same with Ashantis just to mention a few. There were numerous intertribal wars. Slavery was also practised, they were often captured in war and sold or serve kings and deities. There is nothing new under the sun

Ptolomeus: Nobody said it needed one thing or another.
Every human being is free to select.
Now, when an illiterate Christian assaults without information, there is a right to explain that all the ills of Africa are not due to traditional religion, but to the acculturation, sense of inferiority, mental slavery and taught the conquerors.
I agree with u on most things Ptolomeus though i still think ur weired grin ok seroulsly, take no offense. i do disagree with u on one thing. u seem to think one of the ills of Africa is caused by colonization/slavery. it tend to disagree there. you see most cultures in the world either practised slavery or were colonized or ruled by foreign cultures but that doesn't stop them from developing.

There is no corellation btw industrial revolution and missionaries coming to teach africans. japan and china didnt need missionaries to teach them developmet. They decieded to develop by themselves. they developed their own way of writing and they still use it till today. next thing u will say we should thank them for teaching us english language.

Ok first of all i just got a bb, why, becos everyone is using it therefore it made more sense so as to communicate with friends, afteral phones are made for communication. I know fully well dat androids have better functionalities , heck, even my old nokia has more functions than bb. But honestly if u want to communicate better , then use a blackberry becos they actually have the best messaging app (BBM) and the social network integration is good too.
Confession: i had to wait till the subscription crashed cos i saw no sence in paying so much just to ping  grin.      Question: if u get an android phone wat will u be doing with it? as in anything new?

Christianity EtcRe: Forgiveness After Immoral Behaviour by capricon: 11:57pm On Aug 06, 2007
Entwine
It is only you who can forgive yourself through the law s of nature which is not in anyway partial but "universal"

You must be really remorseful about your act to lessen your karma but you must be punished anyway!(Out of your

own doing Not God). If you sin and ask for forgiveness continually you will not be forgiven but only increase the

burden of karma upon yourself. Remember whatsoever a man soweth he must reap!

Christianity EtcRe: I'm A Free Thinker: Does That Mean I Won't Go To Heaven? by capricon: 11:35pm On Aug 06, 2007
somze,
Universal laws are the laws of nature. E.g you must reap what u sow(Karma).you musn't obey them(Free will).

Nobody punishes u but yourself. Afterlife is necessary to give a chance to lesen your karma and become a better

person. Afteral if everybody is a sinner(Acording to the bible) then nobody goes to christian heaven only hell. The

catholic church has realised this and tried to chip in the concept of purgatory.Come to think of it w'ont your god give u

a second chance since his so merciful? and knows dat your righteouness is like a filthy rag. Anyways the point is that

people should not bother themselfs arguing if theres a God or heaven. Only do good my friend and it shall be well with

u. No religion can claim sole heirs to, eh heaven.
Christianity EtcRe: I'm A Free Thinker: Does That Mean I Won't Go To Heaven? by capricon: 12:56pm On Aug 06, 2007
u dont even have to believe in any God or religion to go to heaven(Depending on what that is). U just need to follow the universal laws and principles of good and bad to lessen your karma in your next life. Besides there are a thousand and one gods so which oone can be the true god, God of the bible(actually the jewish god) Allah, or even your traditional gods.
