How many undergrad dissertations did you reference in your PHD thesis. Ingrate! Hehehehehe.
BTW, I'm not disputing your claim. Its just not usually done to quote Undergrad when you're doing a postgrad. Of course there may be exceptional pieces of work worth referencing such as your own thesis which has been referenced by Stephen Hawkings and the like. Anofia! Hehehehehehe. LWKMD! |

birdman: Na wa for my people: we post on Nairaland all day, condemning corrupt politicians and fraud. Until it turns out to be someone we admire, or a kinsman, then we turn the other way. And we wonder why everything is corrupt and nothing works?
All the people who still rever Emeagwali, you can do the same thing I did when I first heard about this. Emeagwali was an inspiration and I was incensed that someone would drag this affable, brilliant man's name in the mud. Use google to do some research on his claims. Like me, your anger at the poster will turn to confusion and dread, to anger at Emeagwali. There is nothing special about this: there is a phrase in academic circles about "Doctors without PhDs". The scam is popular with failed doctoral students who take on title of Doctor anyways. You can usually get away with it too ad few people vet such things. in nigeria/africa, yes. but in global circles? i wonder. |

Here is what the man said of himself: Am I "A Father of the Internet?" First, I demonstrated that the original blueprint for the international network only applies to a flat Earth and invented a global network that applies to a round Earth. Second, the United States government acknowledged that I used the NSFnet (precursor of the Internet) to break the barriers of space and time. The latter was hailed as an NSFnet "success story." Third, I developed the first personal Web site on the NSFnet. Fourth, I contributed to the development of parallel processing technology, which provides the horsepower that runs Web sites. Fifth, I demonstrated the power of parallel computing, a technology that is now accepted and is widely used on the Internet. However, the most significant aspect of my contribution is that I worked alone over a period of 27 years. As a result, I have won more prizes and awards than any contemporary scientist who worked alone. As the discoverer of penicillin, Sir Alexander Flemming, wrote, "It is the lone worker who makes the first advance in a subject: The details may be worked out by a team, but the prime idea is due to the enterprise, thought and perception of an individual." For the above reasons, I have been described as "one of the fathers of the Internet," a phrase that recognizes that many people contributed to the invention of the Internet. I agree and believe that any recognition of an individual as "A Father of the Internet," should be qualified by stating that the Internet has many fathers, mothers, uncles and aunts. link: http://magazine.biafranigeriaworld.com/cezeilo/2003nov09.html |

Ibime: Nigerians are wicked people. If Emeagwali was granted the PHD (which he won award for), he would not have to blow his own trumpet. He would have access to research and funds and be able to co-publish work with other Drs and Profs in his field. His work will be quoted by all academics and he will be speaking in all the conferences. As it stands now, someone doing a PHD thesis cannot reference Emeagwalis work because PHD student should not be referencing anything less than PHD or Professional research paper. hehehehehe. I have to agree with this. |

Ibime: Nigerians are wicked people.
Its only because Emeagwali doesn't have Dr in front of his name that they downplay his achievements. It is ironic that the same PHD thesis that was rejected that was the same PHD thesis that won him the Gordon Bell prize.
Emeagwali never claimed anything he didn't achieve unless people lack comprehension. If I say Ibime won nobel prize of Nairaland, some punks would claim that Ibime said he won Nobel Prize gon gon.
I have studied parallel computing to a decent level, and I tell you that for Emeagwali to be recognised in one of the most highly advanced fields od mathematics is no mean achievement. Some people wey barely scrape Mass Communication degree from Lasu just dey here dey yarn opata.

Islam › An Eye For An Eye: Muslim Family Seeks Destruction Of Man's Spine In Revenge! by Carlosein(op): 10:54pm On Aug 21, 2010 |
A Saudi judge has asked several hospitals if they are willing to damage a man's spinal cord as punishment for a cleaver attack that left a 22-year-old paralysed. The victim, Abdul-Aziz al Mutairi, became paralysed and subsequently lost a foot after a fight more than two years ago. An unnamed man was sentenced to 14 months in prison for the assault, but released after serving only half that time. The shortened jail time has reportedly enraged Mr Mutairi's family. His 27-year-old brother Khaled said they want an equivalent punishment for the attacker and have appealed to a judge in northwestern Tabuk province. "We are asking for our legal right under Islamic law," the brother said. "There is no better word than God's word - an eye for an eye." The judge has since asked several hospitals if medical paralysis was possible and would they perform the operation. Local newspapers reported a facility in the capital Riyadh had declined, saying it could not inflict such harm. Saudi Arabia enforces strict Islamic law and occasionally hands out punishments based on the ancient legal code. Amnesty International has expressed concerns over the reports and said it was contacting Saudi authorities for details. "We are very concerned and we will appeal to the authorities not to carry out such a punishment," said Lamri Chirouf, the group's researcher on Saudi Arabia. He added this was the first time Amnesty had heard of a punishment involving the damaging of a spinal cord. "It's hard to follow details of the Saudi justice system. People are sentenced in closed trials with no access to the public and no lawyers." http://uk.news.yahoo.com/5/20100820/twl-judge-asks-doctors-to-damage-crimina-3fd0ae9.htmlIs the religion of peace not synonymous with forgiveness |

Ogaga4Luv: This is a terrific, truly original horror movie.
I consider myself a fan of all the "Nightmare on Elm Street" films, but this movie is, along with part 3, the finest the series has to offer.
There is much to recommend about this movie.
First of all, this movie treated the killer (Freddy Krueger) with respect. As the series wore on, each successive film played him more and more for laughs. But, in this movie, he's a force to be reckoned with.
Besides that, the concept is truly unique - a sociopathic child killer who can enter into your dreams. If he kills you in your dreams, you're dead for real
The movie is shot in a very eerie, dark style which adds to the suspense. The performances are all enjoyable.
Overall, I highly recommend this movie if you like horror films at all.
I rate this a 10 out of 10 Remember 'welcome to wonderland, Alice'? |

blacksta: Before the examination, Scott asked the doctor if they ever laughed at their patients' problems.
The Doctor replied 'Of course I won't laugh, I'm a professional. In over twenty years I've never laughed at a patient.
'Okay then,' Scott said, and proceeded to drop his trousers, revealing the tiniest 'whoo-ha' the doctor had ever seen. It couldn't have been bigger than the size of a AAA battery.
Unable to control himself, the doctor started giggling, then fell laughing to the floor. Ten minutes later he was able to struggle to his feet and regain his composure. I'm so sorry,' said the doctor. 'I really am. I don't know what came over me. On my honor as a doctor and a gentleman, I promise it won't happen again. Now, what seems to be the problem?'
It's swollen,' Scott replied. Now, this is some classic joke. |
