AutosTurning Off Car AC Doesn’t SAVE Fuel, Here Is The Best Way To Preserve More Fuel by Carmartng(op): 5:37am On Aug 17, 2022

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tz92Gn4dfbE

Rolling down the car windows instead of using the car AC is recommended to save fuel. This fuel-saving habit is widely used by many people today. Many people believe that AC accounts for more fuel consumption. This reasoning that brought about the turning off of car AC and rolling down windows to save fuel became a thing.

Everyone across the globe practice this fuel-saving measure. But, the reality is that rolling down your car window can even cause your car to consume more fuel than you imagined. Here’s how.

How Rolling Down Car Windows Consumes More Fuel
Some drivers point out that rolling down a car window affects fuel consumption. Which is to say, you might not be on the safe side even when you put off your AC. Now, how’s that even possible?

The argument is that rolling down car windows subjects the car to wind resistance, which creates drag in the car.

The result is that the resistance caused by the drag when the windows remain open results in the engine working harder and using more fuel. It can also cause the car to develop strange new issues.

So, how do you settle whether to put off your car AC or wind your windows down?

The answer from mechanical engineers is that the resistance occurs due to how you drive your car.

So, it’s not the rolled-down window that’s the issue?

The answer is that putting off car AC helps you save fuel. Rolling down your car window can also affect your car’s fuel consumption, depending on how you drive it.

However, since most people cannot determine how they’re driving, keeping your car AC on is best to avoid your car developing weird issues. Why? Fuel can be replaced quicker than you’ll need to replace a spoilt car part.

Generally, rolling down a car window might not wholly be the fuel efficiency method you thought. It could come with a new problem, or your car might still consume more fuel.

Why not enjoy your car AC and stay on the safe side?

Can Electric Vehicles Really Work In Nigeria?

An electric vehicle, simply called an EV, is basically powered by energy stored in rechargeable batteries. Electric vehicles need intermittent charging to keep them working. Truth be told, electric vehicles are a better alternative to gasoline-powered cars because they are more cost-effective, have low maintenance and give zero emissions.

The fact is, Nigeria as a country is quite slow in adopting the latest innovation and technological trends. Other African countries like Kenya and South Africa amongst others have gone ahead in making their country more habitable for electric vehicles. But, what about Nigeria? Knowing the current challenges facing the country, can electric vehicles really work in Nigeria?
Let’s evaluate…

Bad Roads
Epileptic Power
Few Charging Stations
Unavailability Of Spare Parts
Traffic

Nigeria is a developing country. This means, that if the right measures and steps are taken, it could rise to be at par with other developed countries of the world. Electric cars will work in Nigeria when the challenges that threaten their sustainability are addressed.

A Nigerian man has shared a video online showing Mercedes Benz cars abandoned by their owners, who are young boys.

No less than seven Mercedes Benz could be seen to have been left unattended at a mechanic workshop in the clip.

He explained that the boys abandoned their exotic rides with mechanics due to the inability to maintain them.

According to him, ‘Canada and US don cast’, which means that the Benz owners are experiencing challenges with getting the car parts as some are very expensive due to the depreciating value of the naira against the dollar while other parts are hard to find.

Car TalkLagos Flood: How To Know If Your Car Can Survive Flood by Carmartng(op): 1:48pm On Jul 12, 2022
Currently, it’s the rainy season in Nigeria and it usually lasts until towards the end of the year. Practically, the rainy season period in Nigeria stays longer than the dry season. It’s also a time for panic for many in Nigeria. Both road-side sellers and car owners. There’s the issue of floods flooding roadsides, making it impossible for cars to move smoothly.

This is especially the case if you find yourself in places like Lagos state where they battle the effects of floods from the beginning to the end of the rainy season. Currently, there’s been records of cars sinking due to the flood. But, does it mean car owners in Lagos should stop driving during the rainy season?

In this article, we will be highlighting some important ways to find out if your car can weather the body of water currently piled up on strategic Lagos roads. Stay tuned to find out.

The Location Of The Car’s Electrical Components
Depending on the location of the electrical component of the car, it’ll tell you if you can drive your car through a flood. Some cars come with major electrical components installed beneath the car. What this means is that the moment they are driven through a large body of water, the engine absorbs water and becomes unable to move.

So, before driving your car into flood, make sure you know where the car’s electrical components are located.

The Location Of The Car Brainbox
Some cars come with their brainbox located inside the passenger’s seat. So, if underneath your passenger’s seat there’s a rot, there are higher chances of water entering your brainbox when you drive through flood. Know the location of your car’s brainbox and how secure it is.

The Location Of The Air In Take
The air in take of a car is the pipe through which air your engine gets the air it needs for combustion. If that pipe in your car is underneath the car, water will enter your engine when driven through flood and your engine will be locked. You’ll mostly find the underneath engine air intake in BMW cars.

What To Do When Your Car That Cannot Enter Into Flood Enters

Most times, people drive their cars through flooded areas without even realizing it. In this case, it becomes difficult not to try driving your car into the flood.

If you ever drive your car into flood and later realize it’s having issues, the best thing to do is to put it off and call your mechanic.

For those cars that drive through flood seamlessly, there are going to be times when the car might stop when it’s inside the flood. Avoid trying to start the engine again. This will cause the car engine to absorb even more water. Inside, push the car out from the flood.

Conclusion

While there’s no way to reduce the flood happening in Lagos currently, you can still learn how to drive your car through the flood seamlessly. Lastly, if you have A/C in your car, always put it off before driving into a flood to avoid your fan taking up water into the car.

He said the attack was repelled by “gallant presidential guards”.

“The Presidency has described as sad and unwelcome, the shooting incident near Dutsinma, Katsina State, at the convoy of cars carrying the Advance Team of security guards, protocol and media officers ahead of President, Muhammadu Buhari’s trip to Daura for Sallah.”

“The attackers opened fire on the convoy from ambush positions but were repelled by the military, police and DSS personnel accompanying the convoy.

“Two persons in the convoy are receiving treatment for the minor injuries they suffered. All the other personnel, staff and vehicles made it safely to Daura,” Shehu said in a statement.

CelebritiesSky Cruise, Inside Giant Flying Luxury Hotel That Can Stay In The Air For Years by Carmartng(op): 12:06am On Jun 29, 2022
Not many will believe this but there’s a giant flying hotel that comes in the form of a plane that will be able to carry 5,000 people through the sky.

The name of this plane-hotel is Sky Cruise. It will have everything that you could possibly want in a luxury resort.

Some of the things you will find inside this plane-hotel are restaurants, bars, gyms, theatres, swimming pools, and even a shopping mall all suspended high above the clouds.

The Sky Cruise will be piloted by artificial intelligence (Al) and will be powered by 20 nuclear-powered engines.

The concept of this plane-hotel was revealed by the designer Hashem Al-Ghaii this week.

This was posted on YouTube. In the video, Al-Ghaili described the Sky Cruise as “the future of transport.”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrodDBJdGuo

Al-Ghaii said the hotel will be able to remain suspended in the air for years without ever touching the ground.

The idea is that airlines will have to fly guests to and from the luxury resort in electric planes.

This futuristic sky hotel will have a big hall offering 360-degree views.

There are also external glass elevators connecting the hall to the main deck.

The truth is that this Sky Cruise is not meant for people who are afraid of heights.

On each side of the Sky Cruise there will also be three balconies, which Al-Ghaili calls “viewing domes” where guests can stargaze or see the northern lights.

Another thing that guests of this Sky Cruise won’t worry about is trouble on air.

Supposedly, its Al systems can “predict air turbulence minutes before it happens” before intervening to prevent guests feeling any vibrations.

Al-Ghaili says the hotel will simply, “glide over it.”

No one will have to worry about the carbon footprint of the sky hotel either.

The Sky Hotel’s 20 electric engines will be powered by “clean nuclear energy.” What this means is that it’ll never run out of fuel.

With all of this, this supercar of the sky seems a bit too good to be true. So, we’ll wait until it has made it past the design stage.

AutosHow To Know When You Need To Change Your Car by Carmartng(op): 3:42am On Jun 22, 2022
If you live in Nigeria like me, you’ll know that we don’t really change cars over here. In Nigeria, a car can be used for over twenty years until it can no longer be used. We literally recycle our cars over here and well, that in itself isn’t such a bad thing because we utilise our cars to their maximum capacity. The cars are used until they can no longer be used and eventually, they end up in some mechanics’ workshop where their parts are disassembled one after another, depending on what the mechanic needs at that point.

When Do You Change Your Car?
Nigerians majorly change their cars due to two factors; when they earn more money and feel the need to show this increment by buying a better car or when the car they currently use is damaged beyond repairs.

In Nigeria, a major determinant of your social class/how wealthy you are in your car. So as you climb the social ladder, you must change your car to correspond with your current social status. However, asides from these two reasons there are other factors that should make you change your car.

THE 50-50 RELEASE
The 50-50 rule states that if the money meant for repairs costs 50% of the price of the car, you should change the car.

For example, if your car is worth N2,000,000 and per adventure, it develops a mechanical fault or any kind of fault that requires you to spend N1,000,000 on repairs, you shouldn’t repair the car rather you should buy a new one.

This makes perfect sense because there’s actually no guarantee that after fixing the car, it will work perfectly well. So save yourself the stress and go get another one.

THE ENGINE KNOCKS
When the engine of your car knocks/blows and is completely ruined, that’s the perfect time to change the car. Yes, you can get a new engine for a great price but we advise that you change the car at that point because major damage has occurred. If the car still has a great value, you can sell it off and use the proceeds to purchase a new car.

You know it’s time to change your car when it no longer serves you.

A typical example is if you owned a small sedan as a married couple and it was efficient but as time went on, you had kids say four kids. The sedan wouldn’t be sufficient anymore so the best thing to do is to do away with it and get a minivan or a full-sized SUV. Another example is, that you owned a truck because you did a lot of interstate travelling but now you don’t. That’s a valid reason to change your car.

WHEN YOU ARE TIRED OF BEING BESTIES WITH YOUR MECHANIC
A great time to change your car is when you have fixed it too many times and it keeps developing faults. At that point, you should let it go as nothing lasts forever.

BECAUSE YOU WANT TO
Yes, wanting to change your car is a very valid reason to change it. Perhaps you’ve grown tired of the old infotainment system and the style so you want to change it. Please feel free to do that. It’s your car and your money.

CONCLUSION

An average person may have to change their cat about five times during their lifetime. But with proper maintenance, it is possible to use a car for a very long time without having to change it.

Do well to let us know in the comments section how long you’ve had your car.

CelebritiesWhat You Should Know About The Rising Cost Of Cars In Nigeria by Carmartng(op): 12:28pm On Jun 07, 2022
I was once told by my parents that during the days of their youth (the early twenties), a car was sold for N5,000 in this same Nigeria and I find that really hard to believe because the current prices of cars are not in any way close to N5,000. In fact, you cannot fix your car for N5,000 and you’d wonder what really went wrong. Well, this phenomenon doesn’t only happen in Nigeria. Sadly it’s a global issue. Over the past 10 years, we’ve seen a ridiculous spike in the prices of automobiles and I’ll be giving you reasons why that has happened.

Higher Cost Of Import Duty
Every car that comes into Nigeria must be cleared at the seaports by the Nigerian Customs Service and all cars except Innoson Motors which are made in Nigeria are imported into the country. Clearing a car at the seaports isn’t free. You must pay the officers and due to the economic situation of the country which is affected by the naira to dollar rates, the cost of clearing a car at the seaports has increased significantly over the years. And, the more recent the model of the car you are clearing is, the more money you will pay because they believe you actually have a lot of money. Let’s not even talk about the money you have to pay on the side to ensure that your car is cleared quickly.

High Demand And Limited Supplie
Due to an increase in the loss of jobs (courtesy of COVID-19), quite a number of people have taken to becoming Bolt, Uber and taxi drivers so as to provide for their daily needs. Hence, there is a high demand for the purchase of vehicles all around the country and dealers cannot keep up. We all know that inflation of prices happens when we have a high demand and limited supplies.

The Cost Of Naira To Dollar
Once upon a time ago, the Naira was valued higher than the Dollar. Many people preferred Naira to Dollars. Yes, the Nigerian economy was that good. However, as time went on, we experienced a decline in the Naira due to poor economic choices. In 2013, it was about N150 to $1 and that was manageable. But it is 2022 and some days, we see it rise to as much as N500 to $1.

We all know that the dollar is the currency of the world. Hence, all cars are purchased in dollars. Take, for instance, a car that cost $2,500 in 2013 when it was N150 to $1, that car would cost about N375,000 naira. And that’s a very reasonable price. But today, at N500 to $1 the car would cost N1,250,000. Outrageous? Extremely.

However, we should note that even the economic situations in western countries have suffered and due to that, a car priced at $2,500 in 2013 wouldn’t cost the same today. So the prices just keep going up and up.

Shortage Of Computer Chips
Currently, China is under yet another lockdown and if you know China, you’ll know that they are the capital for manufacturing so many things. There is a global computer chip shortage experienced by manufacturers due to the COVID-19 lockdown in China. This means that those who are able to get their hands on any chip will definitely skyrocket the prices of cars.

Covid-19
You may think the Coronavirus was just a sham but trust me, its adverse effects aren’t. You may also think that the pandemic is over but think again because we are still literally in the middle of a pandemic

Also, at the peak of the COVID-19 season globally (2020 to be specific) there was a shortage of jobs which led to an economic meltdown across the world, particularly in the USA. This has eventually led to increased labour and production cost in making cars, hence the spike in the prices of cars.

Strike Action
The Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) often threaten to embark on strike action over the National Automotive Council (NAC) levy. Strike actions like these often lead to a high price of cars.

Dealership
Due to the high costs of import duty, it is only natural that dealers will increase the prices of the vehicles in order to make a profit.

Government Policy
The policy of the government concerning the importation of cars which is usually reviewed every five years is a major contributor to the ever-rising cost of cars as most of the policies are not favourable.

CONCLUSION

I hope you now understand that the real enemy responsible for the ever-increasing cost of cars is no other person but inflation assisted by COVID-19.

If you live in Lagos, you must be familiar with Okada riders. They are everywhere. Despite efforts by the Lagos state government to restrict the movement of Okada riders in certain areas to create some orderliness on the road, somehow, they find a way to ride in those areas.

It’s very common to see motorcyclists involved in a fight with either motorists or pedestrians on a regular basis. The reason for this isn’t farfetched; they are always doing something wrong in a bid to cut corners on the road. That’s not to say that these transport workers are the cause of every problem on Nigerian roads. Let’s discuss the Crimes most Lagos okada riders commit on daily bases

Riding without protection
A motorcycle is different from a car. Riding it puts you at a higher risk in the event of an accident. Hence, there’s the need to cover up yourself with a helmet. Despite efforts by the authorities to enforce the mandatory use of helmets by these riders, they totally disregard it.

Uncalculated overtaking
It isn’t a crime to overtake other vehicles on the road. People move at different speeds. If they aren’t keen on arriving at their destination faster, you can overtake them and keep it moving. But then, there are rules of engagement as far as overtaking is concerned. These rules are necessary to prevent accidents on the road. But for some reason, Lagos okada riders develop selective amnesia when overtaking people. When you see them overtaking, you begin to wonder if they aren’t afraid of getting involved in an accident.

Overloading the motorcycle
If you think car drivers are the only ones who can be guilty of overloading, Lagos okada riders are ever ready to surprise you. Ideally, a motorcycle is meant to carry only two people – the rider and a passenger. But that’s not in the books of okada riders in Lagos. They can carry as many as three people – two in the back seat and a child in the front seat. If they had their way, they’d carry even more people just to make more money.

Carrying passengers with overly big objects
Perhaps passengers are to blame for this, but okada riders cannot be exonerated because they encourage it. Okadas aren’t meant to transport big objects but human beings. In order to make quick cash, these riders encourage passengers to get on their vehicles with big objects that obstruct free movement on the road. Imagine a passenger on an okada carrying a car windscreen, it’ll definitely extend beyond the width of the okada.

Over speeding
This list would be incomplete without including overspeeding. Lagos Okada riders can give car drivers a run for their money when it comes to speeding. The Nigeria Highway Code clearly states that 50km/h is the maximum speed limit for motorcycles. But obviously, okada riders didn’t get the memo.

Indiscriminate movement
Okada riders are a major part of motorists’ nightmares in Lagos because of their indiscriminate movements. They come out of the blue and pass through places they aren’t supposed to pass. In the process of doing this, they collide with other road users and scratch their vehicles.

Trust Lagos car drivers, they aren’t having any of this – that’s why you always see motorists and okada riders involved in either a fight or heated argument.

Main Reasons Why Every Nigerian Celebrity Prefers Exotic Cars

One thing to note is that the reason for owning exotic cars isn’t just as a means of transportation. They could easily buy or ride any car if it were to be. Here are the reasons why they own exotic cars.

Exotic Cars Have Great Market Value
The market value of exotic cars like Lamborghini, Lexus SUV, Bentley, Rolls Royce, Mercedes-Benz, Tesla, and other cars cannot be compared to other cars’ value.

Owning an exotic car is equally an investment. Most celebrities purchase these cars as an investment. If there’s ever any need to be resold, there’s always room to earn as much money spent buying them. Therefore, exotic cars are smart investments.

The Lifestyle Reason
One main thing about exotic cars is that they’re a lifestyle indicator. The type of car you drive speaks volumes. And in Nigeria, where the class is everything, driving an exotic car is also a class thing for many celebrities.

Keeping Up With Trends
Many celebrities do not purchase new exotic cars because they don’t have a car to ride. It’s most times an urge to keep up with trends. There’s always the excitement of keeping up with the latest car trends, and many Nigerian celebrities want to participate.

Building A Car Collection
Like people build jewellery, bags, clothes, shoes, and hair collections, others enjoy building car collections. Like other celebrities, some Nigerian celebrities understand the importance of having a car collection.

A car collection shows taste, class, and the depth of your pocket. A car collection is also an investment.

Incomparable Performance To Other Cars
Having and driving exotic cars is an experience on its own. There’s a reason manufacturers of exotic cars pour high-tech features into them. The reason is to let them stand apart from other cars.

There is a wide margin in exotic and regular cars’ performance. This difference in performance is undoubtedly thrilling for car lovers. It provides maximum comfort, and it’s impossible to be a celebrity in Nigeria without wanting the maximum comfort an exotic ride provides.

AutosExpert Tips For Finding The Right Car Of Your Dream by Carmartng(op): 5:03pm On Apr 19, 2022
When it comes to buying a new car, it’s important to do your research and find the right vehicle for your needs. There are so many cars on the market today, each with its unique features and benefits. How do you know which one is right for you? In this article, we will offer some expert tips for finding the perfect car for your needs!

1. Define Your Needs
The first step in finding the right car is to define your needs. What are you looking for in a vehicle? Are you looking for something that is fuel-efficient? Are you looking for a car with a lot of cargo space? Do you need a vehicle that can seat seven or more passengers? Once you know what you need, you can start narrowing down your options. If you’re not sure what you need, take some time to think about your lifestyle and how you will be using the vehicle. If you have a large family, for example, you might need a car with plenty of passenger and cargo space. Or if you live in an urban area, you might want to focus on finding a car that is easy to park and manoeuvre in tight spaces. You can also see what’s on offer from different manufacturers to get an idea of what’s available. If you’re still not sure what you need, talk to your friends and family members, or even a salesperson at a dealership. They might be able to offer some helpful suggestions.

2. Consider Your Budget
After you’ve defined your needs, you need to consider your budget. How much can you afford to spend on a new car? It’s important to remember that there is more than just the purchase price to consider. You will also need to factor in things like insurance, fuel costs, and maintenance. Once you have a general idea of how much you can afford to spend, you can start looking at specific models that fit your budget. It’s also a good idea to set aside some money for unexpected repairs or maintenance. No matter what car you buy, there will always be some things that pop up unexpectedly. If you’re not sure how many cars you can afford, there are online tools that can help you calculate your monthly payments based on different prices and loan terms. This can give you a better idea of what kind of car fits into your budget.

3. Do Your Research
After you’ve defined your needs and considered your budget, it’s time to start doing your research. The internet is a great resource for researching different cars. You can read reviews, compare prices, and find out about features and specifications. It’s also a good idea to test drive different cars before making a decision. This will give you a chance to see how the car feels and see if it’s a good fit for your needs. You can also talk to your friends and family members who might have purchased a new car recently. They can offer their insights and recommendations. When you’re doing your research, it’s important to keep an open mind. You might find that a different model or make is a better fit for your needs than you originally thought.

4. Get a Car History Report
When you’ve found a few cars that you’re interested in, it’s essential to get a car history report. This report will tell you about the car’s past, including any accidents or damage that has been reported. It’s a good idea to get a report for any car that you’re considering purchasing. This way, you can be sure that you’re getting a quality vehicle. You can order a car history report online from different companies. Once you have the report, take some time to review it carefully. If there are any red flags, you might want to consider another vehicle. This is just one more step that can help you ensure that you’re making a wise purchase. Also, be sure to have a mechanic inspect the car before you make a final decision. They can check for any hidden damage or issues that might not be apparent from the history report.

5. Negotiate the Price
After you’ve done your research, and you’re ready to purchase a car, it’s time to start negotiating the price. If you’re buying from a dealership, they will likely be open to negotiation. It’s always a good idea to have a target price in mind before you start talking numbers. This way, you can be sure that you’re getting a fair deal. It’s also important to be prepared to walk away from the negotiation if you’re not getting the price that you want. There are other dealerships and private sellers who might be willing to give you a better deal. When you’re negotiating, be sure to keep your emotions in check. It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of buying a new car and pay more than you intended. If you can stay calm and focused, you’ll be more likely to get the best possible deal.

6. Take Your Time
Purchasing a new car is a big decision. It’s important to take your time and make sure that you’re making the right choice. Don’t feel pressured to purchase if you’re not ready. If you need more time to do your research or save up for a down payment, that’s okay. It’s better to wait and get the car that you want than to rush into a purchase that you might regret later. With a little patience and effort, you can find the perfect vehicle at a price that fits your budget. Also, be sure to get everything in writing when you’re purchasing a car. This includes the price, financing terms, warranty information, and anything else that is important to you. This will help to protect your rights and ensure that you’re getting what you agreed to.

These are just a few tips to help you find the right car for your needs. By taking the time to do your research and consider your budget, you can be sure that you’re making a wise investment. And don’t forget to get a car history report to help you make an informed decision. With these tips, you can be sure that you’ll find the perfect car for your needs.

AutosDoes Using Air Conditioning In Your Car Consume More Fuel? by Carmartng(op): 11:35pm On Apr 15, 2022
Whether or not using air conditioning in a car consumes much fuel has been a topic of debate for the longest time. While many believe it does, some others are in doubt or find it to be speculation. But, the truth is that having an air conditioner in your vehicle consumes fuel. It does not consume fuel when it is off, but once your car’s air conditioner is on, it starts consuming the car fuel.

Constantly putting your car’s AC runs down your fuel faster. And for those travelling a long distance and using AC, the result has become ensuring to fill their fuel tank before travelling. But, the exciting thing about fuel consumption by AC is that it can be controlled.

How To Improve Fuel Economy While Using Air Conditioner
With the fuel hike, random fuel scarcity, and the country’s economic situation, many are searching for ways to reduce expenses. For car users with AC in their car, there are ways to reduce fuel consumption by your AC. Here’s how;

Use the re-circulation function of your A/C system: The re-circulation method requires less energy because the cooled air is the one within your car and not warm air from outside.

Make sure your car has the “econo” mode or smart controls: It helps to reduce the fuel consumption by the air conditioner. The “econo” mode is found in cars with climate control systems.

Open Your Windows: If you’re driving down a highway, you can turn off your A/C and wind your windows down to receive a fresh breeze.

Close Your Windows: Leaving your windows open while your A/C is on consumes more fuel because the engine works harder. Consider closing the windows, and this will considerably reduce fuel consumption.

Conclusion
This issue of car A/C consuming more fuel has been a challenge for many drivers and car owners. Many manufacturers are looking into producing cars that power with electric charging.

AutosSimple Safety Tips For Anyone Using Lagos Buses by Carmartng(op): 6:11am On Apr 14, 2022
“Hellish” is the word anyone who lives in or has visited Lagos before would describe the public transportation system. While the general public transport in Lagos is fearful and anxiety-inducing, riding in Lagos buses comes with an extra level of caution.

These buses are primarily painted yellow, but the number of buses in Lagos is competing to outnumber residents, so you’ll find buses in other colours. The buses are either the popularly known Danfos, Molue buses, or the mini-shuttle buses you’ll find today.

While many Lagosians master public transport safety measures through trial and error, it’s not usually the same for Lagos first-timers. In this post, we share simple safety tips to use while using Lagos buses.

Simple Safety Tips For Anyone Using Lagos Buses
If you live in Lagos, you probably know the drill. However, for first-timers, these tips will be helpful. Also, most Lagos residents will need this timely reminder.

Start Your Journey Early
If you’re visiting Lagos for the first time and going to an unfamiliar location, always leave early. Although the chief reason is to avoid traffic, Lagos buses won’t move until the bus is filled up. A journey of 30 minutes might take 2 hours, not because of traffic but because the driver is either waiting to fill the bus or stopping at intervals, offloading and loading new passengers.

Be Agile
Once in a while, you will struggle to get on a bus. It’s always survival of the fittest. Why do people struggle when there are a thousand buses? Price is the reason. Each bus in Lagos comes at a different price due to the number of seats. Danfo and mini shuttles share the same prices. But, Molue buses are cheaper, where the most struggle happens.

Mind Your Business
Lagos buses are a circus of their own. You’ll find and see so many things inside it. The chaos is either people throwing fists, people talking, or snoring loudly. Whichever is the case, prepare your mind for things you’d see. But, always mind your business.

Keep Your Gadgets & Wallet Safe
In several cases, people inside Lagos buses have fallen prey to traffic robbers. The interesting part is that these thieves could be the person sitting behind or beside you. Always keep your gadgets and wallet inside your bag and hold them firmly.

Ensure You Have Smaller Denominations of The Naira Notes
Things can move from zero to a hundred quickly inside Lagos buses. One of the leading causes is change issues between the conductor/driver and passengers. A change could stop you from entering a bus when late, getting stopped far away from your location, or fist throwing with the conductor. Try to avoid any of these scenarios.

Watch Out For Scammers
It can be a little of a challenge for first-timers to avoid scammers. It’s said that Lagos is a city of hustlers, so even the person you might be asking for locations could be a swindler. Note the type of people you ask for directions. Indeed, you’ll run into good people, but be wary of those you ask questions.

Watch Out For “One Chance” Buses
“One chance” is an everyday Nigerian slang for vehicle kidnappers. So, while in Lagos, watch out for them. Naturally, bus drivers wait to fill their buses before moving. So, watch out for private vehicles or casually moving empty buses to pick up passengers.

Choose Inner Seats
Rarely do Lagos bus drivers close their doors. The reason is usually for easy dropping and picking up of passengers. Choose inner seats when you can for safety reasons.

Shield Your Nose
There’s every possibility that the person sitting next to you is carrying fresh fish, locust beans, or it’s even an offensive odour from people’s bodies. It often feels life-threatening. Use whatever you can to shield your nose and pray to reach your bus stop sooner.

Avoid Sleeping At All Cost
The worst thing that could happen to you is sleeping inside a Lagos bus. If you’re not with anyone, avoid it altogether. Some things that could happen while you’re sleeping are theft or the driver passing your location.

Remind The Conductor Of Your Destination
As many times as possible, remind the conductor where you’re stopping. Bonus points if you’re sitting near the driver. Keep reminding them. Most of them are easily forgetful.

Make Sure The Bus Is Going Towards Your Direction
Ensure that any bus you are entering is heading in your direction. Sometimes, the Yoruba might be confusing to first-timers, and you’d mix up the locations they’re calling. Listen carefully before entering to avoid a double journey.

Conclusion

Lagos public buses are chaotic. There’s no one way to have an excellent experience because they’re not designed mainly for comfort. Their function is to get to your location; therefore, every safety measure falls on you.
