The new 2022 Tundra, which rides on the revolutionary TNGA-F body on frame architecture, is a welcome replacement for the current 14-year-old model. The overall design is more boxy and muscular than before, with a big grill, LED lights front and back, and even more enhanced TRD PRO aesthetics. Toyota went all out on the specs, including 2.5in internal bypass fox shocks, TRD springs, special TRD stabilizer bars, skid plates, LED front light bar, crawl control, and a slew of other goodies. Two new V6 powertrains are available for the 2019 Tundra. The 3.5L TT V6 produces 389HP and 479 lb-ft of torque (649NM), while the new i-Force MAXPowertrain combines a TT V6 with a hybrid system and electric motor to provide 437HP and 583 lb-ft of torque (790NM) when partnered with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The non-hybrid V6 should be able to pull roughly 12,000 pounds, which is less than competitors such as the F150, Silverado, and 1500. Power can be routed to either the rear or all four wheels. A coil spring multi-link suspension is also standard on the new Tundra. Inside, there’s a lower dashboard, an 8-inch or 14-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Alexa, and more. Toyota’s new Safety Sense 2.5 systems, including adaptive cruise, will be standard on all new Tundras. Although no pricing has been announced, we do know that there will be no normal cab Tundra, with the only options being a Double Cab or CrewMax. https://www.carmart.ng/public/blog/first-look-to-all-new-2022-toyota-tundra-trd-pro/

An auto-service workshop requires that there are basic tools available for it to perform its function, otherwise, it won’t be called an auto-service workshop. Amongst Nigerians, an auto-service workshop is popularly called mechanic’s workshop; and it’s the go-to place for repair, maintenance, or diagnosis of car-related issues. Anyone who has gone through the required training needed to repair and service a car can decide to set up his/her auto-service workshop. It’s a profitable business as there are lots of cars on the road in need of repair and maintenance; hence you won’t run at a loss if you start one. But hey, no one will want to bring their car to your workshop if they realize you don’t have the necessary tools to carry out auto-related repair or service. This is the essence of this article; make sure you read the end to find out basic tools every mechanic must have to set up an auto service workshop. Wrench Set There is hardly any automotive job you will want to do that doesn’t require a wrench. Without a wrench, you won’t be able to loosen or tighten those nuts and bolts that keep in place many of the mechanic parts of a car. It wouldn’t be ok to have just one or two wrenches, it’s best to buy a set; this way you have different sizes of wrench available to meet whatever auto service demand that is brought to you. Screwdrivers Screwdrivers come in different sizes and types depending on the size of the screw head. This tool is a must-have in any auto service workshop. A screwdriver is a handy tool that makes it easy for you to lose and tighten screws Flat and Phillips are the most common types of screws, but there are other types too. It’s best to get high-quality screwdrivers of different types and sizes in your auto service workshop. You will definitely need one when carrying out auto repairs or maintenance. Pliers Pliers are another handy tool to have in an auto service workshop. You can either buy a full set or get a standard pair of pliers. Pliers perform diverse functions during automotive servicing- starting from loosening tight bolts to strip wires apart- this makes it a very important tool to have in your workshop. When buying your pliers, ensure to buy high-quality ones, this might be a bit expensive, but they will last longer. Car Jacks An auto service workshop isn’t complete without having one or two or even more car Jacks. This is because, being a mechanic, it’s nearly impossible that you won’t have jobs that would require you to get under the car. With a car jack, you can conveniently lift up the car to a desired height above the ground to make it easy for you to work underneath. There are different kinds of car jacks you will find in the market, however, the general rule is to buy the ones that are strong and sturdy- such that they can lift any model or brand of the car brought to your workshop. Jack Stands Once the car has been lifted with a car jack, a jack stand is needed to keep the car lifted so that you can do your job. Tasks ranging from work on tires, brakes, gas tanks and other parts situated below the car, will necessitate that a jack stand keeps the car lifted. For a small professional auto service workshop, having at least 3-4 jack stands is good. However, depending on your budget, you can start with having two jack stands. Air Compressor Air compressor is another must-have basic tool in an auto service workshop. This tool has a variety of functions it can perform in an auto workshop such as inflating tires which is the commonest use. It’s advisable to buy a portable air compressor, especially if you intend to run a small workshop, this makes it easier to move around. Headlamp When you are working in the dark, or perhaps underneath the car, you will need light to see clearly the parts of the car you are working with. This is where a headlight comes in. While a flashlight could be used, it will keep one of your hands busy. Using a headlamp gives you the much-needed light while keeping both your hands-free to do the task at hand. Every auto service workshop should have at least one headlamp available. Multimeter Or Multitester A car is made up of both mechanical and electrical parts. Hence, your tool kits in your workshop should have tools that can meet mechanic needs as well as electrical needs. A multitester is needed for various electrical works on a car. It helps to find out the electricity flow and identify dangerous hot wires. A multitester can also read the current, voltage, and resistance values on a given auto device. Both analog and digital models of multitester are available, ensure to buy quality ones that you find comfortable to work with. Jump Starter Quite a lot of auto repair and maintenance requires you to deal with a dead battery. To save you the stress of jump-starting a vehicle, using a jump starter will easily help you reawaken a dead battery. When buying your jump starter, ensure it is portable and it has long wire cables. Ratchet And Socket Set Another basic tool to have in your auto service workshop is a ratchet and socket set. Your socket set should include standard and metric sizes and 3/8-inch, 1/4-inch, and even 1/2-inch drivers and sockets. Ratchets come in three different sizes – small (1/4 inch), medium (3/8 inch), and large (1/2 inch); they help you work with bolts in tight places as well as awkward angles. Battery Carrier Battery carriers are used to lift up a car battery from its compartment within a car and carry it to anywhere required for you to work on it. Batteries can be very helpful or even hot (especially if the car has been in use); so using a battery carrier is an easier and safer means to handle car batteries. Brake Cleaner Spray Certain challenges that worry the brakes of an Automobile are simply because of dirt and grease accumulated in the brakes. When cars with this challenge walk into your workshop, having a brake cleaner spray will make it easy for you to get the job done. As the name implies, a brake cleaner spray helps you clean off dirt, grease, or stains around the brakes. https://www.carmart.ng/public/blog/basic-tools-required-to-set-up-an-auto-service-workshop/

Have you ever wondered why vehicle plates are necessary? Why all those digits and figures? What do they mean? About all Nigerians know that every vehicle in Nigeria must have a number plate, but only few can decide what the number and abbreviations mean. Here is a privilege for you to understand the abbreviations and numbers written on vehicle plates in Nigeria. Read along! Plate Number Abbreviation in Nigeria All the countries of the world use plate number on their vehicles so, this is not a case peculiar to Nigeria alone. The adoption of the use of plate number is the government’s firm method of identifying all vehicles in a country. Vehicles are made in similar models, external features and colours which make it a bit difficult to differentiate one from the other. So, whether you ride a motorcycle or own a car, your vehicle is expected to carry a number plate. Vehicle number plates are formed in different ways with each character having its own significance. The numbers are formed based on individual country preferences. Nigeria’s unique format: XYZ-234MN The “XYZ” signifies what Local Government Area you got your vehicle registration done. Next to it is 3 figures, then after that comes the other two letters. These last two letters are basically for numbering. Example: The numbering starts from 1 like this: 001AA, and ends at 9; 999AA. Once this cycle is complete, you’ll move to 001AB till 999AB, the numbering goes on and on like that. Sometimes, the first letters in this sample could be used to differentiate vehicle types. A for private vehicles, X for commercial vehicles, Q for tricycles and bikes while H is used for Hilux. Nigeria Plate Number Colours Nigeria plate numbers are usually white in color while the numbers are written in blue. Perhaps you have noticed that the numbers are written in different colors, some red while some are in green. The color used is also significant. Red is used for commercial vehicles, green for government plates, and purple is used in imprinting diplomatic plates, and white color is used for the lettering. In the case of diplomatic plates, two or three figures are used to symbolize what country the owner of the car represents. These figures are imprinted then followed by two letters and figures. CORPS DIPLOMATIQUE would be clearly written where the state is supposed to be on this type of number plate. As aforementioned, the first three letters on a typical Nigeria number plate represents the Local Government Area in which the vehicle was registered. These LGAs are always abbreviated, which confuses many individuals. Below is a list of typical Nigeria Plate Number Abbreviation under each state and what they represent; Abuja Vehicle Plate Number Abbreviation Local Government KWL Kwali Area Council ABC Abuja Municipal Council BWR Bwari Area Council RSH Karshi Area Council Lagos State Vehicle Plate Number Abbreviation Local Government JJJ Ojo AAA Lagos Island LG LSR Surulere FKJ Ifako Ijaiye FST Festac APP Apapa AGL Ajeromi Ifelodun EPE Epe LND Lagos Mainland MUS Mushin Osun State Vehicle Plate Number Abbreviation Local Government KRE Ikire FNN Ifon Osun SGB Osogbo LES Ilesa EDE Ede GBN Gbongan Katsina State Vehicle Plate Number Abbreviation Local Government BAT Batagarawa CRC Charanchi BDW Bindawa DDM Dandume BKR Bakori DMS Danmusa NGW Ingawa JBY Jibia KFY Kafur BRE Baure DJA Danja MLF Malumfashi KTN Katsina DTS Dutse Oyo State Vehicle Plate Number Abbreviation Local Government BDJ Bodija GBR Igbo Ora SEY Iseyin LUY Oluyole (Ibadan) AME Arowomole (Ogbomoso) MAP Mapo (Ibadan) NRK Onireke (Ibadan) Cross River State Vehicle Plate Number Abbreviation Local Government BJE Boki (Boje) KAM Akamkpa ANA Calabar South (Anatigha) CAL Calabar Municipal KMM Ikom BRA Obubra DUK Odukpani GEP Yakurr BNS Obanliku (Sankwala) EFE Etung (Effraya) GGJ Ogoja CKK Yala (Okpoma) TGD Abi (Itigidi) UDU Obudu BKS Bakassi Kano State Vehicle Plate Number Abbreviation Local Government GWL Gwale NSR Nasarawa UGG Ungogo KMC Kano Municipal TRN Tarauni DTF Dawakin Tofa DAL Dala Ekiti State Vehicle Plate Number Abbreviation Local Government KER Ikere Ekiti EFY Efon Alaye ADK Ado Ekiti EMR Emure Ekiti AMK Aramoko KLE Ikole Ekiti TUN Moba LG (Otun) Ondo State Vehicle Plate Number Abbreviation Local Government WEN Idanre LG (Owena) KEK Ile Oluji LG (Ile oLuji) AKR Akure South LG (Akure) KTP Okitipupa LG FFN Ose LG (Ifon) REE Odigbo LG (Ore) SUA Akoko South East LG (Isua) JTA Akure North LG (Ita Ogbolu) NND Ondo West LG (Ondo) Rivers State Vehicle Plate Number Abbreviation Local Government ABU Aboa/Odual AHD Ahoada-East KNM Ahoada-West ABM Akukutoru NDN Andoni BGM Asari-Toru BNY Bonny DEG Degema NCH Eleme MHA Emuoha KHE Etche KPR Gokana SKP Ikwerre BRR Khana RUM Onia/Akpor RGM Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni GGU Ogu/Bolo KRK Okirika BER Omuma PBT Opobo/Nkoro You cannot just hit the road with a new car in Nigeria, there are due processes you must follow. You must first get your new vehicle registered in your preferred Local Government Area and get a number plate. If you have a plate number that has not been used before, you must get it verified at the appropriate quarters first before attaching it to your vehicle. Getting a plate number would cost you a bit but the amount cannot be compared with the price of your vehicle. https://www.carmart.ng/public/blog/nigeria-vehicle-plate-number-abbreviation-and-meaning/

Auto Insurance – Buying a car is all fun, games, and excitement until it gets to the nitty-gritty of maintaining these cars. Most people think that the headache stops immediately you become the owner of a car, but the untold truth is that that is where the headache begins. For one, if it’s not a brand new car get ready to take many trips to the automobile shop. That is why your top choice for used cars should always be Car Mart Ng. For two, if it is not a brand new car also, any small hit to the car can end up affecting more than one part. But, whether it is a used car or a brand new car, one thing that is almost inevitable is road accidents. Not a bad prayer, but why road accidents are inevitable is that in Nigeria a lot of people are careless with the way they drive, and like they say in Lagos, “ just assume everyone is mad on the road when you are driving, and you are the only sane person.” This statement though funny is extremely true, that is how bad driving in Nigeria or anywhere can be. Driving can be a hazardous activity and the best way to prevent any type of ‘had I known’ story is to be insured. What Is Auto Insurance? Being insured means protecting you against any form of damage. Auto insurance is getting insured or getting insurance for any kind of automobile like cars, trucks, Lorries, motorcycles, bicycles and anything that has wheel that moves on the road. The main need of an automobile insurance is to provide a financial protection plan against any type of unforeseen damage on the car emanating from road accidents. Auto insurance protects you against any type of financial loss, and it is covered by an insurance company. So whether you own the car or you are driving the car on behalf of another person, there is an insurance package that covers every type of incident. A lot of people in Nigeria do not like to get insurance because they do not understand what it is all about. But here, Car Mart Ng has created an article to help you understand Car Insurance in Nigeria and tips on getting the right type of insurance. Remember to read Best Car Insurance Companies In Nigeria Tips for getting the best price on Auto Insurance I hope you clicked on the link above before proceeding to this section. If you did then, this section of this article will help give you tips on getting the best price on Auto Insurance. Not everyone has loads of money to spend on getting insured, while some others do. People live within their means, and if getting an Auto insurance is important to you, then you must be wondering how to get the best deals? The thing is that a lot of Insurance companies charge, an arm or a leg for car insurance and this puts people off immediately. Most insurance companies don’t put out their insurance prices on their website, but they always want you to get a quote. Don’t fret because a Quote is just a final price on a product, good or service being rendered or sold. So, before going ahead to order a quote, get familiar with these tips. Tip 1– Conduct proper research. Many insurance companies do not like to list their auto insurance price on their website, so it takes a whole lot of research and patience. Get familiar with the approved insurance companies in Nigeria and scan their website and directories for every relevant information concerning their insurance packages. Check the official website at National Insurance Commission. Tip 2– Demographic factors. Some personal factors can also affect the price of your Auto insurance, so it’s best to check if they will affect your insurance price in any way. Age and gender: As hilarious as it may seem, young men, pay higher auto insurance prices than young women, also the same with older men and women. This is so because the two age groups are more about experiencing road accidents than females. So the males have higher rates and better rates than women. Marital status: There is some research that backs up the fact that married people are less prone to experiencing accidents because they drive carefully knowing that they have a family at home. But single people reportedly experience more accidents. So, your rate can decrease depending on your driving history. Credit score: Many insurance companies like to go through your credit score before deciding on the type of auto insurance that you can get. Lower credit scores mean higher insurance premiums. Profession: If you are more likely to get into an accident depending on your type of profession, then your insurance premium can be regulated. If your profession means that you are always on the go, it means that you pay higher premiums than a person who seats in an office all day. Tip 3- Car related factors. Apart from demographic factors, your car can also affect your insurance price. If your car does not have safety features, then it will cost more to insure, and many other relating factors. Safety rating: As stated earlier, owning a car does not end the moment you buy the car. Some factors like safety car measures can also mess with your auto insurance rate or price. Some cars do not come with safety features that can help protect the car or passengers against major injuries and owners of such types of cars have to pay higher premiums on their car insurance. Size of the vehicle: Cars that are bigger in size usually have more protection if involved in road accidents. They can manage to survive some kind of damage, but smaller cars do not have the weight to resist damages. Many large cars with good safety ratings have a lower premium than smaller cars. Age of the car: if an old car is involved in an accident, the money spent on repairing the car may be higher than the price needed to buy the car itself. In this case, the owner of the car may decide to buy a new car and ditch the car. New cars do not get ditched like older cars, so newer cars have a higher collision coverage rate than older cars, and the higher the coverage rate, the higher the money being paid on premium. Tip 3- Driving records. If you have a track record of being involved with car accidents, this can affect the price you pay for auto insurance. Most insurance companies do not want to lose out, so they have the choice of rejecting your insurance request or they have the choice of increasing your insurance premium. So if you do not want to pay exorbitant fees, it is better to drive carefully and avoid any accidents that will affect your auto insurance price. Owning a car is an expensive job, so when adding auto insurance to the list, it is best to get the best prices on any Auto insurance deal. These tips listed above will help you get the best price on Auto Insurance in Nigeria. https://www.carmart.ng/public/blog/how-get-auto-insurance/ https://carmart-blog.s3.af-south-1.amazonaws.com/2020/09/DBddsGRM-Tips-for-getting-the-best-price-on-Auto-Insurance-1-1000x563.jpg |
There are various reasons people desire to get a new car. But the truth is, everyone wants a new car that has better features than the one they are using at the moment. Now, better features can mean various things to different people. For some, a better car is one with more cargo space; one with more seating capacity; one with better performance or even one with better exterior design. Whatever a better car is to you; there’s a feature no one should overlook and that’s the safety features of a new car. You see, buying a new car with better safety features does not just save you as the driver, it also protects the passengers in your car and even the pedestrians or fellow drivers on the road. Gone are the days when just a few airbags and two more safety features are enough for a car. You need to look out for more safety features. In this article, I’ll be telling you the best safety features to look out for in your next new car. Here they are: Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) Automatic Emergency Braking is a must-have in your next car. Many potential rear end accidents would be prevented if only your car has an AEB. This feature makes your car act like a smart car in the face of obstacles, hence the name automatic. When a car fitted with AEB senses a potential collision, and the driver does not react in time, then the car will start braking for you. This way you are kept from colliding with any obstacle- maybe a car or pedestrian- right ahead of you. Lane Departure Warning/Lane Keep The function of these two are similar because they help keep you in your lane while driving. The chances that your car will be the only one on the road (especially on the express or general public road) is very rare; this makes a lane departure warning/lane keep safety feature highly important in your next car. The lane departure warning in your car will give you a warning or a beeping signal when you stray away from your lane on the road. Lane Keep meanwhile, will gently steer you back into your lane if you drift out of it. Blind Spot Detection You can’t always see what’s happening behind you or in your spot, this makes having Blind Spot Detection as a safety feature on your car very important. These features alone can prevent you from mindless arguments of someone hitting your car or you bashing someone else’s car. Looking constantly into the rear view mirror in your car will help you in a measure; but having blind spot detection gives you a signal or beep when vehicles approaching from the rear. Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) Having an Adaptive cruise control on your next new car is of good advantage, especially if you frequent the highway or the express. The ACC is a high-tech safety feature that uses sensors and radar, normally mounted inside the grille to stay at safe distance away from the car in front as well as stay within speed limit especially during heavy traffic congestion. It does this by automatically applying the throttle when acceleration is required and the brakes when traffic starts to slow down. the ACC system will brake heavily and tighten the seatbelts. Adaptive Headlights Adaptive headlights come in handy when you are coming in the night. These headlights help you navigate your path better in the night and make you more visible to fellow night drivers. It works to help improve your night vision by reacting to the speed, steering and elevation of the car, then illuminating the road according to the direction of the car. Airbags Airbags are very important to reduce the impact an accident could have on you or your fellow passengers. It reduces the risk of injury to you or those in the vehicle you may experience. Modern airbags are developed such that they detect the weight and position of the driver and front passenger. The best airbags are those that can protect the chest and the head. Forward Collision Warning Like I said earlier, that your car will be the only one in the group is unlikely. This makes having a forward Collision Warning as a safety feature on your next ride. This feature gives you a warning in the form of a signal when a collision is imminent. Remote Parking And Exit Systems Having this feature on the car testifies that your car is advanced and even smart. Cars from Tesla and Kia amongst others have car models inbuilt with remote parking and exit systems. cars offer an optional feature called ‘Smart Summon’, which allows equipped vehicles to autonomously exit a parking space and drive roughly 60 metres or less to their owner. Cars With Best Safety Features Here’s a list of some cars with best safety features you can make a choice from; 2021 Honda Civic. 2021 Hyundai Elantra 2021 Kia Forte 2021 Kia soul 2021 Mazda 3 2021 Nissan Sentra 2021 Toyota Corolla 2021 Nissan Altima 2021 Mazda 6 2021 Audi A6 2021 Audi 6 2021 Toyota Camry 2021 Lexus ES 350 2021 Lexus IS 2021 Mercedes Benz C-Class CONCLUSION Ensure to always choose a car that protects you and those around you. Having a car with the best safety features is a good investment. https://www.carmart.ng/public/blog/best-safety-features-for-your-next-car/

After unveiling the Rolls-Royce Sweptail a few years ago, a strong movement to return to Coachbuilding in Rolls Royce was building and now the brand is back to its iconic historic trade. Using their in house “Architecture of Luxury”, Rolls has the freedom to make stunning creations, like this new Boat Tail under the new Rolls Royce Coachbuilding department. This first project took 4 years to develop too. Commissioned by a client, the Boat Tail takes its inspiration from a racing yacht and sits at 19ft long. Cool touch includes a wraparound windshield and two tone blue exterior. Then comes the hand painted dark blue hood and the stunning wood “boat tail.” The roof also is a removable canopy that can cover the two toned blue leather interior with lacquered wood veneer. There are unique accessories too with a champagne fridge, silvery cutlery, two cloth tools and two cocktail tables, an umbrella, and more. The Boat Tail is a four-seat convertible with an emergency tonneau, just in case the heavens open. This Rolls‑Royce Boat Tail also provided with a detachable carbon-fiber roof that turns the Rolls into a breathtaking coupe. A lightweight aluminum hoist for the latter is, naturally, included in the package. Rolls-Royce is notoriously coy about the price of its truly bespoke limousines, yet since this new, outrageously decadent Boat Tail was inspired by the $13 million Rolls-Royce Sweptail from 2017, but with increased complexity, it may easily be the most expensive new car to date. (That title currently resides with Bugatti’s La Voiture Noire, which sold for a reported $18.7 million after taxes.) The stunning cabriolet is named after the tapered rear end—a style that dates back to the 1920s, when cars like the Auburn 851 Speedster and Bentley Speed Six Boat-Tail were the talk of the town. Understanding Your Car Engine Types: Car Engine Types Explained If you are like me, you must have wondered what terms like V8, turbocharged, four-stroke cylinder means. These terms can be somewhat complicated, especially if you are new to cars and it's auto parts. I begin to wonder; is one car engine better than the other? As a car owner or a general car enthusiast, it's very right for you to know all car engines are not the same. Knowing the kind of engine your car runs on, will better help you understand- yea, bond better- with your car. A car engine is responsible for propelling your car from one point to the order. It works by facilitating the internal combustion of energy-producing fluids such as petrol or fuel. Modern engines make use of a four-stroke principle known as the Otto cycle, hence the name; four-stroke engine. Types Of Car Engine Car engines are broadly classified into two categories. 1. According to the engine layout 2. According to the number of cylinder According to engine Layout Engine Layout speaks of the configuration of the engine ie. how it looks. Modern car engine have similar components, including Inside, you'll find combustion chambers, spark plugs, pistons and more. How these components are arranged defines the layout of the engine. Your car engine can fall in any of these layouts; 1. Straight Engine Like the name implies, the straight engine layout has all it's cylinders lineally arrayed. The engine is positioned parallel to the length of the car, meaning it goes from the front of the engine bay to the back. This layout allows more cylinders to be added if needed or befitting by the car manufacturer. The straight engine layout is commonly seen in powerful sedans like the BMW, Mercedes Benz. 2. Inline Engine The online Engine layout is often defined as the 'side by side' layout. The cylinders in the inline Engine layout are arranged in a fashion perpendicular to the car, meaning it goes from the left of the engine bay to the right. This layout allows for more space around the car for other parts like the car battery and cooling system; as the engine is kept small. The inline engine layout is widely used, especially in family cars and hatchbacks. 3. Flat Engine This is also called 'Boxer engine' layout. This layout keeps the engine flat as possible; its cylinders are laid down flat in both directions. Both sides will have cylinders positioned in such a way that the pistons 'punch' outwards. The flat Engine layout is much easier to handle, as it's centre of gravity is kept low due to it's arrangement. 4. V Engine You must have heard Vs- a lot when car engines are described. It is so named because the cylinders are arranged at an angle of 60 degree to each other such that they form a V. This Layout allows for more cylinders to be added easily; and thus more power is generated in small areas. The V engine layout is used in many high-performance luxury cars. 5. VR and W The VR and W configuration works on a similar principle like the V engines, however, the distance between the two rows of cylinders is so narrow that they're compressed together in one block. The VR engine was developed by the Volkswagen Group. A W configuration joins two banks of VR engines together at their base. VR engines are rarely used now, though W engines feature in cars such as the Bentley Mulsanne. According to number of cylinder The number of cylinders a car has affected the power output and fuel efficiency. Number of cylinders can range from as little as one to as much as sixteen. One cylinder engines are found mostly in scooters and motorcycles. It is wise to buy just the right car with the enough cylinders to give you the adequate power and fuel efficiency you need. 1. Twin Cylinders Twin cylinders or two cylinders is the lowest you will find in a car. However, it is the least as it generates very little energy. A modern modification to the twin-cylinder is the turbocharged which generates sufficiently much power. This engine type is found on Fiat 500 TwinAir and the Fiat Panda Aria. 2. Three cylinders Cars like Ford Focus and Peugeot 308 have the three cylinder engine. Add one more cylinder to the twin cylinders, and you have three cylinders. It produces more power, however, car manufacturers prefer using a twin turbocharged engine. The characteristic sound of this engine type is distinctive burbling noise and a shuddering vibration. 3. Four cylinders Check out most cars on the road, and you'd find four cylinders in the engine. Usually, these four cylinders are arranged in an inline type, allowing it to take up less space. They have higher power output and fuel efficiency to meet daily needs. 4. Five cylinders A unique thing about five cylinders engines is the kind of noise they make. It is often described as being a 'warbling' sound, because the five cylinders ignite in an unusual order. Few car models have five cylinders in it's engine make and design. Most models like Volvo and Audi have a five-cylinder engine. 5. Six Cylinders Six-cylinder engine is usually welcomed in most luxury cars. Their Layout us normally in the V-layout; hence the name V6. Unlike the rather 'unpleasant' sound of the five-cylinder engine, the six-cylinder greets you with it's high-pitched, race car-like sound. This cylinder type is common with high performance cars; the power output is quite huge. 6. Eight cylinders and more The more the cylinders, the more the power output of a car. Sport and race cars like the Ferrari have a higher number of cylinders to meet the power demand. They’re normally set up in a V formation, hence being referred to as V8, V10 or V12. Until recently, V12 was the largest engine available, but that all changed with the arrival of the super-quick Bugatti Veyron, which boasts sixteen cylinders. https://www.carmart.ng/public/blog/understanding-your-car-engine-types/

Car financing is a great way to own a car without necessarily having to pay for it upfront. There are various car financing services that have good interest rates on loans granted. No need to delay on that dream car you’ve always wanted to have, an auto loan will bail you out. However, when choosing an auto loan option, it’s important to know how the loan payment will be calculated. Why You Need To Know How Auto-Loan Will Be Calculated. Knowing how car loans are calculated will let you know the best car finance offer to take. The interest rates and loan term for various car finance deals differs. In addition, knowing how to calculate the monthly installments you have to pay will let you know if it fits your budget. Terms Used In Calculating Auto Loan Payment Downpayment The downpayment can represent any percent of the overall cost of the car, it depends on the agreement between you and the lender. Down payment is the amount of money you pay out-rightly that covers the part of the cost of the car. It also signifies your commitment to fully purchase the car. The more the amount you pay as down payment, the lesser the amount of money you have to pay as monthly installments and vice versa. Loan Term The loan term refers to the total duration of time you are expected to pay the total amount. It varies depending on where you get the loan. either from a bank, a cooperative society or the car dealer. The longer the loan term, the longer the amount of time you have to pay up in monthly installments. Interest Rate The interest rate is actually the cost or the extra money you have to pay for taking a car loan. Simply put, it’s the amount you have to pay for borrowing the money. The higher the interest rate, the more you have to pay in monthly installments. Monthly Installment The amount you have to pay in monthly installment depends on the interest rate, the cost of the car and the estimated loan term. How To Calculate Auto Loan Payment While you can easily calculate your auto loan payment with the use of the Auto Loan Calculator, it is still essential you know how to work it out yourself. You don’t have to be a Math Guru to calculate auto loan payment; you just simply need to input the corresponding figures using the right formula. For instance, if you are buying a foreign used 2016 Toyota Corolla which costs about #12million if the down payment is 20%, then you are paying #2.4million upfront. This means you are left with a 9.6million to complete payment. The remaining #9.6million has to be paid in four years at a flat interest rate of 5% per annum. From the above example: Loan amount= 9.6 million NGN Interest rate = 5% Loan term= 4 years FORMULAS Your total interest = interest rate/100 x loan amount x loan term Your monthly interest = total interest / (loan term x 12) Your monthly installment = (loan amount + total interest) / (loan term x 12) Loan term= 4 years Interest rate= 5% Loan amount = #9.6 million. Total interest for 4 years= 5/100 X #9.6million X 4 = #1.92million Your monthly interest = #1.92 million/ (4 X 12) = #40,000 Your monthly installment = (#9.6million + #1.92million) / (4 X 12) = 240, 000 NGN This means you have to pay 240,000 NGN every month for a period of 4years to be out of this loan debt. Then, you can bold call that car yours. You can apply this formula in paying for any car you desire to buy in monthly installments. Where To Get Auto (Car) Loans In Nigeria There are various car financing services in Nigeria. You can get affordable car loans from Banks, corporate bodies, or reputable car dealers. Generally, getting a loan from a bank requires that you have an account with them. In addition, you will need a proforma invoice before an auto-loans from a bank will be approved. Do your homework to find out various car finance services, check out their interest rates, the loan term and see if it works for you. Scrutinize The Interest Rate The interest rate is one of the most important factors to consider when settling for a car loan. This is because, if the interest is too high, you will be spending a whole lot on that car, which might not be necessary. It’s important you don’t just take your car loan provider’s word for final concerning the interest rate. Take due diligence to calculate the interest rate yourself by following the steps itemized above. Don’t Sign Any Paperwork In A Hurry Sealing the deal on a car loan offer will require that you sign some papers. Don’t be a hurry to sign the papers without first carefully going through it again. You need to be sure the agreements stated in the paper are in your favour as well. If you need more time to read the documents, then kindly ask for it. If your car loan provider puts pressure on you to sign in a hurry, that might be your cue not to accept the loan. Bear in mind that whatever you sign in the paperwork represents a legally binding deal between you and the lender. Beware Of Conditional Loans Conditional loans are loans whose terms can be changed at any time. This is highly risky. Taking a loan and owning a car is enough risk, you don’t have to complicate that by taking a loan that the terms can alter a few years or months down the line. You never can ascertain if those term changes will be in your favor; hence beware of conditional loans. https://www.carmart.ng/public/blog/how-to-calculate-auto-loan-payment-in-nigeria/

Buying a used-car can be a worthy investment and very cost-effective, but it can also be a tricky business. There are certain things to look out for in a used vehicle so that you can get good value for your money. The value you get from the car depends on many factors, such as the condition of the vehicle, its market value, and service history. It can be very dangerous to take your used car dealer's words hook, line and sinker as these words can be sugar-coated. One of the most important parts of a car you need to look out for is the car's engine. Buying a used car with a very good car engine can be the determining factor to how satisfying you will find the car or how often you have to keep spending money to maintain the car. This is why carmart.ng recommends that a thorough check be done on the car engine before you make the purchase for a used car. If you are not skilled enough to do a thorough check on a car engine, then employ the services of an experienced mechanic to help you out. This article shares helpful tips to determine the true state of a used car's engine: 1. Vehicle Service Record This is one of the first things to inspect when ascertaining the reliability of a car engine. Usually, the car dealer or the owner who wants to sell should have this record. In this record, check out for the car's mileage and oil changes. Depending on the model, the advised interval between oil changes can be between 3,750 and 10,000 miles. If the car is driven longer than this without an oil change, the engine could be wearing out already. 2. Starting Problem A car engine in good working condition should start easily on the first attempt. If you notice a delay in starting the engine or you have to try multiple times to Kickstart the car, that's a clue that something is wrong with the engine. Ask the car dealer about the issue; it's wise not to buy the car if the issue persists. 3. Cold Start The Car Certain car dealers are smart, they tend to warm up the engine before it comes so you won't know there's a problem. A simple trick to outsmart this attitude is to arrive earlier than the usual time. This gives you the opportunity to start the car yourself on the first attempt. If there's a problem, it might be best to go for another choice. 4. Sound Of The Engine When you start the engine, another important thing to look out for is how the engine sounds. Does the engine sound labor during starting? Are there unnecessary jingling or squeaking sounds while the engine is running? Is the tailpipe giving off excessive emissions? There are various ways to verify the sound of the engine; - at idle, - with the accelerator pressed (while the car is in neutral), - with the hood closed and open, Any irregular sound should immediately be reported to the car dealer as this may be a sign of potential problems. 5. Smell From The Engine Fine, we know it's a used car and this won't smell or look like new. But, there's a limit to it. Before buying a used car, test drives the car for a few minutes. After the drive, stop the engine and open the bonnet. Do you perceive any unusual smell oozing from the engine? A burning smell from the Engine could be an indicator of incomplete combustion and low oil level. It could even be evidence of wearing out parts of the engine. 6. Inspect The Bottom Of The Car A used car engine check isn't complete if you won't get down on all fours to inspect the bottom of the car. If you won't do this, you might fall prey to engine polish often applied by used car dealers to make it appear good and new. When you look under the bottom of the car, you are looking out for oil and other fluid leakages. Dripping oil from under the vehicle could mean a number of things, from a damaged oil pan to worn out seals. - Reddish-looking fluid might be leaking transmission oil. - Black-colored fluid could be engine oil. - Caramel or dark-brown fluid could be power steering or brake fluid. - Green or orange fluid is likely to be coolant. When you notice any of these leakages, they are signs of potential problems. Ask questions from the car dealer before making your purchase. 7. Coolant Leakage Coolant usually cools off the car engine, and any leakage of the coolant is a sign of radiator damage. This may be a minor problem as you can easily replace the radiator. However, if there are cracks on the radiator, it might indicate a greater problem. It's best to avoid cars like this. 8. Check Under The Oil Cap With the parking brake applied and the engine OFF, remove the oil filler cap. You might be needing a towel or a rag when lifting the oil cap, as it should be hot. Get a flashlight, and look inside the engine after removing the oil cap. If it's clean, then everything is fine, but if there is a lot of black carbon deposits or sludge under the cap, it's a sign of lack of maintenance. Ask questions about this from the car dealer to make the best decision. 9. Check Engine Warning When you start a car, normally all warning lights should go off. But, if the 'Check Engine light remains on, then it calls for attention. CONCLUSION. Car engines are vital components of a car, as they determine the performance and reliability of a car. When next you want to buy a used car, ensure to follow these tips on verifying the car engine before you make your decision. https://www.carmart.ng/public/blog/how-to-check-used-cars-engine-before-making-your-purchase/

Installing a rear-view camera is quite simple and straight-to-the-point. Just a little tweaking of wires here and there, together with removing a little interior trim, and you are done within an hour. Rear-view cameras are fitted just at the rear of a car and they give you a wider view of what lies behind you on a monitor or screen, so you don't bump into them or cause any unnecessary accidents. Unless your car is an old vehicle, most modern vehicles come with an already installed rear-view camera as part of their electrical components. Even if your car doesn't have a rear-view camera, installing one is essential as it prevents accidents and makes parking easier for you. You don't have to constantly crane your neck backward when you want to park, all you need to do is put your car in reverse, the rearview camera turns on, and you can clearly see what lies behind you on the screen. Where Do I Install A Rear View Camera Where you mount your rearview camera determines the kind of image that is projected on the screen. Camera's are usually installed at the rear of a car. When mounting your camera, ensure it is not obscured by anything and doesn't get interfered with when you open/close your boot. What Tools Are Needed To Instal A Rear View Camera Igbo screwdriver Phillips screwdriver Trim/panel removal tools Wire strippers Cordless drill 3/32 to ⅛ drill bit Automotive Multimeter Wire connectors such as Posi-Taps Electrical tape Zip ties A friend Materials Needed Rearview camera Wire cluster Monitor or infotainment unit (if necessary) Rubber grommet Installing A Rear View Camera There are various types of rear-view camera and displays; with diverse prices. Don't just pick out anyone you find in a car's aftermarket, ensure to pick what best fits your car. Types of Cameras Bracket-mounted: The camera is attached to but separated from a bracket that can be mounted on the car’s surface. Flush-mounted: A camera that is made to blend with the surface of the vehicle as much as possible. This camera looks like a part of the design of a car. License plate frame: The camera is embedded within a license plate frame, usually at the upper part of the license plate. License plate bar: The camera is centered in a bar that stretches across and attaches to the top of a license plate. Wired rearview camera: This camera requires a wire connection to show video or images on the display screen. Wireless rearview camera: Rather than use wires, wireless makes use of signals and receiver method to display images or videos on the screen. Types of Displays In-dash aftermarket: It is usually embedded within the dashboard of a car, hence the name in-dash. An added infotainment stereo with a screen that fits flush with the dashboard. On-dash aftermarket: It is usually mounted on top of the dashboard. Rearview mirror: A monitor is built into the rearview mirror. Sometimes the screen is half of the mirror, sometimes it is full-length. When not in use, it just looks like a mirror. Depending on the make, the rearview mirror display can be attached to your existing rear-view mirror or you might need to totally replace it. Installing The Camera Cables Follow these simple steps to install the camera: Remove the license plates using a Phillips head screwdriver. Safely keep all the screws holding the license plate in place. Opening your trunk, use a trim/panel removal tool to pry open the solid interior panel covering the opposite side of your license plate mounting area. Removing this panel will expose the car’s rear wiring chambers. Using a power drill equipped with a high-speed twist drill bit, drill a small hole in the license plate mounting area. Make sure there are no wires, cables, or trim pieces that could be damaged when you drill a hole through the exterior of the car. To figure out where to make the hole, hold your camera up to the area you intend to mount it. Then, note the spot where its splitting cord sits. Drill a hole large enough to contain the video and camera's power cables. Before running your camera cable into the car, slip a rubber grommet onto it near the non-splitting end. The rubber grommet should fit exactly the size of the hole you drill Pull the splitting end of your camera’s video and power cable through the drilled hole into the trunk of your car. Wire Installation Locate your car's reverse light wires, if you can't find them, check your owner's manual. Reverse light wires are the cords that connect your car’s tail lights to the dashboard. Strip and separate your car’s reverse light wires, using a wire stripper or pliers. Fuse your camera wires with the reverse light wires. Make sure you twist your positive (usually red) camera wire through the positive reverse light wire and the negative (usually black) camera wire through the negative reverse light wire. For safety, make sure you wrap the combined wires in electrical tape Display/Monitor Installation Depending on the type of vehicle, determine whether you want to track the wire under the floor of the vehicle or through its headliner. Remove or partially detach any trim pieces, carpeting, headliner, or door rubber needed to discreetly run the wire. Run your camera’s video cable to the front of the car towards the area by the fuse box. If you’re installing an external monitor, first attach your device’s included mount to the windshield by following the manufacturer’s included instructions. Then, hook your monitor onto the mount. If you are installing internal monitors, you’ll need to clip the new device onto your current rear-view mirror. For others, you’ll need to remove the mirror and slide your monitor into the pre-existing mirror mount. Endeavor to follow manufacturer's instructions as it slightly differs depending on the model. Run the monitor’s splitter cable to the fuse box. After routing your monitor’s splitter cable, connect the video end of the cable to your camera’s RCA cord. Then, wrap the connected cords with electrical tape to hold them together. Connect your remaining bare wire cable to the backup monitor’s power cord. Insert the positive (usually red) end of the bare wire cable into the open end of a fuse tap. (A fuse tap is a small cable that converts a bare wire into a fuse signal.) Finally, clamp the 2 cables together with a pair of pliers Plug the fuse tap into the fuse box Mounting The Camera Once you are done installing the display/monitor, you will have to return to the rear of your car to complete the camera installation. Connect the rearview camera to its power and video cable. You use to find the power and video cable sticking out from the drilled hole. If the camera attaches to the front of your license plate, follow the manufacturer's instructions to mount it to the license plate. If the camera attaches to the back of your license plate, line the device up with the plate’s fastener holes and drill screws through them. The screws you removed from the license plate could be used to mount the camera. Using a Phillips head screwdriver, put your rear license plate back on your vehicle. Once you’ve reattached it, give the license plate and backup camera firm tugs to make sure they’re firmly secured. CONCLUSION Once you are done installing and cleaning up the area where you mounted the new rearview mirror, test the camera to make sure everything works. This should be done in a safe place like your driveway or garage before driving your car out in public. https://www.carmart.ng/public/blog/how-to-install-a-rear-view-camera/
