AutosHow To Quickly Stop Your Car When The Brake Fails by Carmartng(op): 11:14am On Sep 30, 2023
Brake failure is the most common car accident that has led to many deaths. There’s nothing fun about brake failure in your car while driving. It’s one of the most dangerous occurrences any driver could experience. It leads to loss of life and injuries.

However, it’s important to prepare one’s mind against some of the car occurrences that could arise at random. Here’s what you should do instead if you find yourself in a situation where your car has no brakes.

Don’t Panic when Your Brake Fails
The first step in any emergency is not to panic. Experts recommend you try your brakes again to check if they haven’t gone out. If this doesn’t work, you must carefully engage the emergency brake.

Another method you can try is to downshift into another gear. In a manual vehicle, you do this by working your way through the gears. If you have an automatic vehicle, taking your foot off the accelerator will do the trick.

While going through these steps, try to get off the road. In most movies, it seems like the hero chooses the busiest streets to keep moving. It would be best to do the opposite by getting completely off the road. However, this may not always be possible. If you are in a situation where you can’t get off the road, try hitting a barrier. Your car will most likely be totalled, but you’ll live to buy another one.

Once you start to slow down, it might make sense to turn the car off. Don’t do this. You need to keep your car running until you’ve come to a complete stop. Turning off the vehicle also reduces power steering, which means losing control over where you’re headed.

Don’t try to drive it again once you’re out of the vehicle safely. Have it taken to a mechanic who can find and fix the problem.

Know Your Car Brakes
While many of us aren’t car experts, there are a few things that are just a good idea to know. According to experts, one of them is what brakes you have. So, how do you know what brakes you have without pulling out your car manual?

Look for a logo that lights up with ABS when you turn up your car. If you see this, you have anti-lock brakes. Otherwise, you have regular breaks.

So, why does this matter, exactly? If you have regular brakes instead of anti-lock brakes, you need to pump the brake pedal fast after you downshift to a lower gear. This will help build up the brake fluid.

AutosPotholes In Lagos Road Are Now Weapons Targeted At Car Owners; Benefits Mechanic by Carmartng(op): 7:19pm On Sep 22, 2023
Potholes In Lagos Road are now Weapons Targeted at Car Owners; Benefits Mechanics as Auto Repair Becomes More Lucrative

An annoying sight in Lagos beyond the traffic situation the deepening potholes. Many Lagosians report that it’s as though the potholes grow even deeper with each passing day, testing the patience of Lagos drivers and car owners while creating a lucrative source of income for auto repair shops that never run out of cars parked in their lot.

Extreme rainfall accompanied by the rainy season AND poor road construction with fake materials has created a lot of potholes on Lagos residential roads and even on most express roads. With each new rainfall, the potholes deepen, exposing car owners and drivers to dangers associated with constantly hitting potholes, which in turn leads to huge repair bills from auto repair shops.

Repeatedly hitting potholes has both long and short-term effects on cars. Potholes damage the sidewalls of tires, suspension, and struts, and also knock a vehicle off alignment causing the vehicle to start moving towards one side. Hitting potholes equally damages a vehicle’s shocks causing the vehicle to develop strange sounds that will require the services of a professional mechanic. With every new pothole Lagos drivers and car owners are subjected to on a daily basis, the result is a return to the mechanic’s store, fixing a problem that was only fixed a few days back.

For many Lagos drivers, avoiding potholes has become nearly impossible considering all roads are littered with deep unavoidable potholes.

However, business smiles at auto repair shops in Lagos as customers are showing up to mechanics stores with bent wheels, punctured tires, misalignments, and even wrecked suspension. Repair bills for issues like this often range from N5,000 to as high as N50,000, all depending on the force of impact hitting a pothole had on the car.

In July 2023, an article published by Guardian Nigeria explores the deplorable nature of Lagos roads as many Nigerians cry out for the government to look into fixing these road issues. The article was published a short while after the Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led administration revealed that the government has completed 970 roads in the last four years of being in office.

However, residents who spoke to Guardian Nigeria noted that despite the government’s announcement of having successfully completed 970 road projects in the space of four years, the deficit remains as many roads in Lagos state are still ridden with strangely deep potholes.

Speaking to the publication, a public servant named Adepoju Olorewaju stated: “It is appalling how deplorable roads are getting in the state shortly after being constructed. The condition of perpetual trauma and vulnerability to dangers, which these poorly constructed roads have left many Lagos residents deserves to be spoken against in strong terms. The attitude of some residents of the state towards infrastructure provided by the government is also very reprehensible. How do you explain the conversion of roads to mechanic workshops, which is happening in most parts of the state?

He continued saying: “In some other parts of the state, operators of makeshift food canteens convert sidewalks, pedestrian walkways, and even parts of motorways to kitchen units and their activities damage street coatings.”

Another Lagos resident, a commercial bus driver identified as Mr. Johnson Adebayo told the publication: “The potholes have made life difficult for people, especially those of us who ply the road regularly. Every time one is thinking of how to manoeuvre his way while driving just to avoid those dangerous spots littered everywhere on Mafoluku Road.”

Another resident, a tricycle operator, Mr. Olajide Ige stated: “This road needs urgent government intervention to reduce the hardship people pass through plying this road.”

Pothole Prevention in Lagos

Preventing potholes in Lagos, like in many other urban areas, is a significant challenge due to factors such as heavy traffic, poor road construction, and extreme weather conditions. However, there are several strategies and approaches that can be implemented to mitigate the formation and expansion of potholes in the city. Here are some key measures that can be taken:

Proper Road Design and Construction:
Ensure that roads are designed and constructed using high-quality materials and techniques that can withstand heavy traffic and adverse weather conditions.
Implement proper drainage systems to prevent water accumulation on road surfaces, which can weaken the road structure and lead to potholes.

Regular Maintenance:
Establish a routine maintenance schedule for inspecting and repairing roads. This includes filling small cracks and potholes before they become major issues.
Invest in trained road maintenance crews and equipment for quick response to emerging road defects.

Quality Control:
Implement strict quality control measures during road construction to ensure that materials meet standards and that construction practices are sound. Regularly inspect and monitor ongoing road construction projects to prevent substandard work.

Use Durable Materials:
Select durable and weather-resistant materials for road construction, such as high-quality asphalt and concrete.
Consider using innovative road construction technologies that improve durability.

Traffic Management:
Implement traffic management strategies to reduce congestion and heavy truck traffic, which can accelerate road deterioration.
Promote the use of alternative transportation options to reduce the overall load on the road network.

Education and Awareness:
Raise public awareness about the importance of responsible driving and the impact of heavy vehicles on road wear and tear.
Encourage citizens to report potholes and road defects to the relevant authorities promptly.

Pothole Detection Technology:
Invest in modern technology like drones, cameras, or mobile apps for detecting potholes and road defects early.
Use data analytics to predict potential trouble spots and plan maintenance accordingly.

Emergency Repairs:
Establish a rapid response team to address emergency road repairs, especially after heavy rains or other extreme weather events.
Ensure that emergency repairs are of high quality to prevent the rapid recurrence of potholes.

Collaboration with Private Sector:
Partner with private companies and organizations for road maintenance and repair initiatives through public-private partnerships (PPPs).
Leverage private-sector expertise, resources, and technology to improve road infrastructure.

Long-Term Planning:
Develop a comprehensive, long-term road infrastructure plan that addresses not only the repair of existing roads but also the expansion and improvement of the road network to accommodate growing urban populations.

Environmental Considerations:
Implement sustainable road construction and maintenance practices that minimize environmental impact, such as recycling materials and reducing emissions from construction equipment.

Potholes and the Future of Transportation in Lagos

Potholes pose a significant challenge to the future of transportation in Lagos, as they can lead to road accidents, vehicle damage, traffic congestion, and increased maintenance costs. To ensure a sustainable and efficient transportation system in Lagos, addressing potholes should be a priority. Here’s how potholes can impact the future of transportation in Lagos and potential solutions:

Impact of Potholes on the Future of Transportation:
Safety Concerns: Potholes can lead to accidents, especially for two-wheeled vehicles and pedestrians. As Lagos grows and more people use various modes of transportation, ensuring safety is crucial.
Traffic Congestion: Potholes slow down traffic as drivers navigate around them, leading to congestion. In a city as densely populated as Lagos, congestion is already a significant issue, and potholes exacerbate it.
Vehicle Damage: Potholes can cause significant damage to vehicles, leading to increased maintenance costs for individuals and businesses. This can deter people from using their vehicles, impacting mobility.
Impact on Public Transportation: Potholes can damage public transportation vehicles and infrastructure, reducing the reliability and efficiency of the public transit system.
Economic Costs: Potholes increase transportation costs for businesses due to vehicle repairs and delays in goods delivery. This can have a ripple effect on the economy.

Solutions for Potholes and the Future of Transportation:
Road Maintenance: Implement a proactive and regular road maintenance program to identify and repair potholes promptly. Utilize technology, such as mobile apps and sensors, to report and detect potholes.
Quality Road Construction: Invest in high-quality road construction materials and techniques to ensure roads can withstand heavy traffic and weather conditions.
Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs): Collaborate with private companies for road maintenance and construction through PPPs. Private sector involvement can bring expertise and resources to the table.
Innovative Materials: Explore the use of innovative and durable road construction materials that are less susceptible to potholes and damage.
Traffic Management: Implement intelligent traffic management systems to reduce congestion and wear and tear on roads. This can include optimizing traffic signals and promoting alternative transportation modes.
Alternative Transportation: Invest in and promote alternative transportation modes such as buses, trams, and bicycles to reduce the reliance on individual vehicles.
Data-Driven Decision Making: Use data analytics to predict pothole formation and prioritize repairs in areas with higher traffic and wear.
Environmental Considerations: Adopt environmentally friendly road construction and maintenance practices to minimize the impact on the environment.
Long-Term Planning: Develop a comprehensive, long-term transportation plan for Lagos that considers population growth and urban development. This plan should include road expansion and maintenance strategies.
Public Awareness: Educate the public about the importance of responsible driving, reporting potholes, and adhering to road safety regulations.

AutosHow Fuel Subsidies Are Influencing The Shift From Big Suvs To Small Cars by Carmartng(op): 10:39am On Jul 23, 2023
We have an intriguing topic to discuss – the impact of fuel subsidies on SUV ownership in Nigeria. As fuel prices continue to fluctuate, many vehicle owners in the country are making significant changes in their car preferences. Join us as we explore how fuel subsidies are prompting a shift from big SUVs to small cars in Nigeria.

To begin with, let’s understand what a fuel subsidy is and how it affects consumers. In some countries, governments offer fuel subsidies to help stabilize fuel prices and ease the burden on citizens. These subsidies can lead to lower fuel costs at the pump, encouraging people to drive more and potentially opt for larger, less fuel-efficient vehicles.

For quite some time, big SUVs have been a symbol of status and luxury among vehicle owners in Nigeria. Their spacious interiors, powerful engines, and robust design have made them a sought-after choice, with engine capacities ranging from 3.0 litres to 5.7 litres are now patronising cars with engine capacities ranging from 1.4 to 2.0 litres. Most car owners in this category are now going for cars like the Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, Honda City, 2.0-litre Accord, Toyota Avensis, Toyota Corolla Verso, and small SUVs like the 2.0 litre Toyota RAV4, and the 2.0-litre Honda CRV.

However, owning an SUV comes with certain challenges, especially in a country with unpredictable fuel prices

Shift towards Small Cars, Small Cars Gaining Popularity
The introduction of fuel subsidies has led to an interesting trend – vehicle owners are now favouring small cars over big SUVs.

For instance, most big vehicle owners who drive cars like the Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander, and Nissan Xterra, who normally fill their tanks with N11,000 or slightly more, now buy a quarter tank with the same amount. While cars like the BMW X6 and 7 Series, Range Rover Autobiography, and Mercedes-Benz S-Class, which used to fill their tanks with N16,000, now get less than a quarter tank for the same amount.

According to the fuel attendant, the only people who fill their tanks these days are transporters who ply inter-state routes and they do so because, outside Lagos, you can’t buy fuel for less than N650 per litre.

Here are some key reasons behind this shift.”

Fuel Efficiency: Small cars are known for their superior fuel efficiency compared to larger SUVs. With lower fuel consumption, owners can make the most of the fuel subsidy and save money on their daily commutes.
Cost Savings: Beyond the fuel subsidy benefits, smaller cars generally have lower upfront costs and maintenance expenses. This appeals to budget-conscious consumers looking to save on both fuel and overall vehicle expenses.
Environmental Awareness: As concerns about environmental sustainability grow, more people are choosing eco-friendly options. Small cars are seen as a greener choice due to their lower carbon emissions, contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable environment.
Urban Mobility: In crowded urban areas, manoeuvring a smaller car is often more convenient. Small cars can easily navigate tight parking spaces and congested city streets, making them a practical choice for urban dwellers.
Impact on the Automotive Industry
The shift towards small cars is not only influencing individual car buyers but also impacting the automotive industry. As consumer demand changes, manufacturers are adapting their production and marketing strategies to meet the evolving preferences.”

In conclusion, fuel subsidies have triggered a change in the automotive landscape, encouraging vehicle owners to reconsider their car choices. The shift from big SUVs to small cars is a clear indication of the importance consumers place on fuel efficiency, cost savings, and environmental awareness. As we continue to navigate an ever-changing world, it will be fascinating to see how these trends further shape the future of the automotive industry.

AutosTop Most Expensive Luxury Cars You Cannot Find In Nigeria Road At The Moment by Carmartng(op): 11:38am On Jun 02, 2023
In Nigeria, you’ll find a lot of luxury cars. But, if you are familiar with luxury cars across the globe, then you’ll know that the luxury cars found in Nigeria do not even scratch the surface of the number of luxury cars in the world.

Aside from the regular luxury cars like G-Wagon. Rolls-Royce, Lamborghini Aventador, Urus, and a handful of other luxury vehicles like the Range Rover and others, there are still so many luxury vehicles that have never stepped foot into Nigeria.

That’s to say, nobody in Nigeria currently owns these vehicles. Here are some of the luxury cars you won’t find in Nigeria today.

Koenigsegg Agera
The Koenigsegg Agera is one of the most expensive luxury cars. In fact, if you googled the top expensive cars, you’ll find the Koenigsegg Agera among them. A standard Agera costs about $3 million. For the Agera RS, the price is between $5-$7 million. Special editions of the vehicle, like the 1 and RS1, cost about $8-$10 million. Another interesting reason wealthy people purchase the vehicle is due to its insane speed performance.

Bugatti Chiron
While there are Bugattis that can be found in Nigeria, one Bugatti that isn’t in the country is the Bugatti Chiron. However, rumours have it that a big car collector in Nigeria has one entering the country soon. Also, Burna Boy is another person that is expecting a custom-made Bugatti Chiron to arrive soon. The Bugatti is the most luxurious hypercar that also ensures the safety of its owner compared to other hypercars.

Ferrari La Ferrari
There are many Ferraris in Nigeria but not the Ferrari La Ferrari. This vehicle is a limited edition hypercar that is even rare to find in the black market. The black market price, however, is about $3 million. Rumours have it that the Nigerian billionaire Femi Otedola has a Ferrari La Ferrari in his house in Monaco.

Lamborghini Veneno
We have many Lamborghini cars trooping into Nigeria, especially the Aventador and the Urus. But Veneno cannot be found here. Only five units of the Veneno were made. One was used for factory testing, and another one was kept by Lamborghini, meaning only three people in the world owned the vehicle. When it was introduced, the vehicle sold for $4 million, making it one of the most expensive cars on the market.

Lykan Hypersport
The Lykan Hypersports has only seven units produced and is one of the most exclusive cars in the world. The vehicle was worth $3.69 million when it was manufactured. Presently, only the company knows how much it’s worth now.

“The House of Representatives under my leadership has been on the side of the people, working tirelessly to rescue you from economic saboteurs seeking to derail the successes of President Buhari and the APC administration. Skiibii’s name was like a pet name given to him in his early years when a fond uncle nicknamed him Skiibii.
His mother became conversant with the name and began to actively use it. The uncle later revealed that ‘Skiibii’ meant “a smart and sharp person” and “Mayana” is a Spanish word that means tomorrow or the future.

Skiibii joins other Nigerian celebrities to splash millions of naira on a luxury ride this year.

About the Mercedes-Benz GLS
The Mercedes-Benz GLS, formerly Mercedes-Benz GL-Class, is a full-size luxury crossover SUV produced by Mercedes-Benz since 2006. In each of its generations, it is a three-row, seven-passenger vehicle positioned above the GLE (formerly Mercedes-Benz M-Class before 2016).

The GLS is considered the flagship of the marque’s SUV lineup, although the body-on-frame G-Class (originally intended for military off-roading but also offered in luxurious trims) is more expensive and has been in production longer.
