The Ford Edge and Lincoln Nautilus may not receive a new generation after their current lives end. The two ride on the CD4 transverse platform that has underpinned everything from the Fusion to the Continental and even the MKZ. Now the next generation Edge and Nautilus were rumored to ride on the aluminum-intensive CD6 modular platform of the new Aviator and Explorer but due to costs and model overlap, something Mercedes doesn’t understand, they could disappear. But not entirely. ⠀⠀ There’s a surprising story going around about the Ford Edge and Edge-based Lincoln Nautilus, claiming Ford has canceled the program to replace the Edge. The allegation comes from Sam Fiorani, founder of forecasting and consulting firm AutoForecast Solutions (AFS). Fiorani’s prediction, which came in an AFS report, appears to have been covered by Automotive News Europe first, with further reports unearthing more complexities surrounding the issue. The kernel is this: Fiorani heard from “multiple sources” that when the Edge’s current generation is kaput in 2023, production of the Edge and Nautilus will cease at the Oakville, Ontario, plant that builds them for North America. The Edge is also built in China, and assembly could continue there, with Lincoln Nautilus production shifting to China, too. Now the Edge is the one said to be killed off which is odd as they sold 138,515 last year, not too bad. But with the new Explorer offering a wide range of seating and engine options and the upcoming new Escape based Bronco Sport coming, the Edge would appear possibly redundant. Now the Nautilus is rumored to shift production over to China but other say it simply could be killed off too. Stay tuned for Updates!

2021 Mercedes-AMG GLB45 Patent registration drawings which have now been filed with US authorities, detail some of the exterior design changes between GLB 45 AMG and its slower siblings. Following the model of its CLA and GLA siblings, the Mercedes-AMG GLB35 will soon be surpassed by a more powerful “45” model. First spotted by Automobile, a leaked filing with the United States Patent and Trademark Office appears to show the 2021 Mercedes-AMG GLB45. Powering the GLB 35 AMG is a 2.0L Turbo 4 making 302HP and 295 lb-ft of torque going to all four wheels and can do 0-60 in 4.9sec. The GLB 45 AMG will get the same powertrain from the CLA 45 and A45 which is a 2.0L Turbo 4 boosted to 415HP and 369 lb-ft of torque. The GLB45 will look very similar to the 35 outside though it will gain quad exhausts rather than the dual setup on the GLB 35, and it will also get more aggressive aero like a rear diffuser and slightly more aggressive front end. Just like the 35, it has the Panamericana grille. Some other new features on the 45 could be a lowered and sportier suspension and some additional tech and performance packages. There is no official pricing but the GLB 35 should come in around 20million naira and the GLB 45 around 25 million naira. https://carmart.ng/public/blog/2021-mercedes-amg-glb45-leaked/

In recent times, modern SUVs, minivans and trucks have a house-style AC outlet quite different from the popular and wisely used USB ports available in most cars. The question we will be finding answers to today is: what exactly can these AC outlets be used for? House-style AC outlets are one of those very important car convenience features that have several use cases. This feature is still not a standard equipment on family vehicles where it is mostly found and it’s usually paired with expensive rear-seat multimedia systems in large SUVs and minivans or available only on more expensive trim level. This power inverter converts power from DC to AC. The AC outlets are typically mounted on the second row or cargo area giving it the appearance of a home wall outlet. There are different names and ratings for this outlet. Some of the names are 110-,115- and 120-volt AC outlets. If you want to find these outlets, look in sedans, SUVs, trucks and minivans. These vehicles combine these AC outlets with the normal probe style DC outlets that accepts USB connectors. Note this: Not everything plugged into the AC outlet works. It has it’s limitation. It would have so cool to be able to your refrigerator or cooker. But there are guidelines to follow in order to use these devices safely. Like we established earlier, the AC outlets can be real useful. They help warm game-day meatballs in a slow cooker and inflate a mattress while camping. They also come in handy for keeping an iPad charged during a road trip to occupy kids’ attention. Most commonly, the AC outlets help us work on the go by functioning as a portable charging station for laptops and camera batteries; the outlets also charge cell phones faster than a standard USB port. How do you know if that device you are about to plug into your car AC outlet is car friendly? Look for the wattage rating on the bottom of the device or power supply or check the owner’s manual provided when you bought the device. Vehicles that come with the AC outlet feature usually have a maximum rating of 150- watts. Some automakers warn against plugging high end gaming and entertainment systems into the power outlet. For example, The 2013 Dodge Durango SUV, in which the 150-watt maximum outlet is standard in all models except the base SXT, warns in its owner’s manual: “Certain high-end video games, such as PlayStation3 and Xbox 360 will exceed this power limit, as will most power tools.” And that goes for every other car with a 150-watt maximum rating, not just for the Dodge. Research shows that newer versions of our favorite gaming systems have scaled back their wattage rating, but always check the device to make sure. When there is power overload on these outlets, they automatically shut off via overload protection. “Do not use any extension cord with the 110-volt AC power point, since it will defeat the safety protection design. Doing so may cause the power point to overload due to powering multiple devices that can reach beyond the 150-watt load limit and could result in fire or serious injury.” This is a warning written on the owner’s manual of the 2018 Ford Explorer. Another precaution every car owner must take is to avoid using the outlet when the car engine is off. This can drastically deplete the battery of the vehicle. The fact is many vehicle’s outlets only work when the engine is on. The AC outlets in trucks seem to carry more power compare to the SUVs and Sedans. For instance, the 2018 Toyota Tacoma has an available 120-volt, 400-watt maximum bed-mounted AC power receptacle. The maximum wattage is only unlocked when in Park mode or neutral with the engine running. If you’re moving, the maximum wattage is lowered. The Chevrolet Silverado and Ford F-150 also include an available AC outlet in the cabin. The F-150, like the Tacoma, has a 400-watt maximum for the 110-volt outlet, which has one located on the center dashboard and another in the backseat console. According to Ford, the 400-watt power outlet can be used for electric hand drills, rechargeable power tools, video games, laptops and televisions. Ford also warns that it’s best to use the outlets for recharging power tool batteries rather than directly powering them. Furthermore, Ford says these AC outlets should not be used to power cathode-ray, tube-type televisions, vacuum cleaners, electric saws or anything that needs a precise power supply, like measuring equipment. Final words Cars with USB outlets and auxiliary inputs are all well and good, but sometimes you need a little more juice. That is why carmart has decided to write on the uses and precautions of in-car AC outlets. If you are considering buying a new vehicle with this feature, you can check on our website to see a definitive list of vehicles with AC power outlets. https://carmart.ng/public/blog/in-car-ac-outlets-what-do-you-use-them-for/ |
If your car develops a fault or has an issue, do not ignore it just keep it in mind that these are some of the most frequent issues we see in cars. So, check out the most common car problems and watch out for them in your cars. Uneven Tire Wears Some tire wear is normal over time, but early excessive wear isn’t. If your tires are wearing out unevenly or you feel a vibration through your steering wheel, your suspension is probably in need of alignment. Worn Brake Pads One of the most dangerous problems a car can have is worn brake pads. That’s why it’s important to keep up with their maintenance. Ensure your brake pads are replaced regularly to prevent unexpected brake failure because your brakes are your safety on the road. Spark Plugs Spark plugs are one of the simplest, yet most important component of the engine. However, spark plugs have a shelf life. A failed spark plugs can cause your car to run at lower speeds and consume more fuel in the process. There are several signs to look out for to know if your spark plugs need to be changed. The signs include hard starting, engine misfiring, poor fuel economy, or poor accelerations. Radiator Leaks Radiator leaks are most often caused by corrosion. Ensure you replace a radiator rather than patch it up because a leaky radiator can lead to overheating and even an engine fire if care is not taken. Clogged Filter If the air filter on your vehicle is clogged, it’s going to hurt your fuel economy by causing your engine to work harder, thereby putting more strain on your engine overall. Transmission Fluid Leaks Transmission fluid flushes are important for keeping the fluid fresh and preventing corrosion. Transmission fluid leaks are caused by a leak in the pan, though it’s easy to spot. If you notice a red-colored puddles or smell of burning scents from the fluid, it’s an indicator of a transmission issue that needs to be addressed. Emission System Malfunction The emission system is designed to keep pollution to a minimum while making sure your car runs properly. If the car is running smoothly, showing no problems other than the emission light coming on, the problem could be with the sensors that triggers the light. Evaporative Leaks High temperatures cause the fuel in your gas tank to expand. Without some venting, that pressure would build and damage your gas tank. Problems with this system are called evaporative leaks. Loose gaps are far the most common evaporative leaks, causing roughly half of newer car repairs based on the “check engine” light. Alternator Failure The alternator is an essential part of your running car, it keeps battery charged and makes sure all the electrics run once you have started the car. If it breaks, your battery can wear out and you find it difficult to start your car. Ensure you get it replaced in good time. Cracked Windshield A cracked windshield can obscure driver view, making it difficult to see approaching traffic and other road hazards. Usually, it takes some kind of external force to crack a windshield but there are some cars that are prone to damage because of factory vulnerabilities. https://carmart.ng/public/blog/10-common-car-problems-every-driver-should-know-about/

Before purchasing a car that suits you, there are some certain things you have to put into consideration to ensure you are not making a wrong choice of car. Below are some tips to finding the right car. What Kind Of Car Do You Need? If you examine your needs rather than your wants, you will be quick at discovering what the right car is for you. What you want and need aren’t always compatible. What you need and what you want need the car for matters. Let your needs, not your wants drive your decisions. Ask yourself some questions before purchasing the car. Think about what you use your car for? What safety features do you want? Don’t choose a car because it’s in vogue. Would you rather have a cost-efficient car or a luxury car that turns head? Keep all these in mind when you begin your car buying process. What Can You Really Afford? One of the key steps in the process of buying a car is figuring out your budget. It’s a guide to know how much you can afford when buying a car. Be realistic about your budget, be sure you can afford a car before having interest in it. Evaluate whether you can afford it by estimating your monthly payment and comparing it to your budget. You will then discover how much car you can afford. Use A Car Finder Tool Many automotive websites, such as Auto trader or Kelley Blue Book, have tools that allow you to filter your search by price, vehicle category and even options. Even if you know what you want, build a target list of at least five cars to research by reading reviews from automotive experts and owners. Be calm when making your choice because once you get a new car you will live with it for years. Decide If You Want To Buy Or Lease Leasing and buying each have pros and cons, and how you feel about these may help you guide your decision on which route to take. A lease requires little or no money down and offers a lower monthly payment. But when the lease ends you have no car and will need to go shopping again. There are no trade-in hassles at the end of the lease. On the other hand, buying a new car is more expensive and you can take a loan if you don’t have much money. But once you pay of the loan, you will own a car that you can drive as long as it runs. Compare Other Cars In The Same Class If you have a car in mind, you should still review some other comparable vehicles in the same class to make sure you haven’t overlooked an even better choice. In today’s crowded automotive market place, many buyers have difficulty keeping up with all of cars available. Use carmart.ng to research your choices before you hit the showroom. Schedule An Appointment For Test Drive After you have found a car that is a good fit for you, call the dealership’s on phone to schedule a day and time for teat drive before going there in person. TRY establishing a rapport with the salesperson, it will boost your confidence before you visit the lot. The test drive should replicate the conditions the car will be used in after you buy it. If you commute, drive the car in both stops–and –go traffic and at freeway speeds. This is an excellent way of finding out the condition of the car. All the aforementioned points will help you make up your mind and also know the right car. It’s easy to get it wrong when purchasing a car. However, with the right guide, the process is easier. https://carmart.ng/public/blog/car-upgrade-complete-guide-to-finding-the-right-car/

There’s nothing better than having a car that looks shiny and new at all times. Keeping your car look new isn’t that costly, nor does it require much time. A thorough inspection of all engine transmission, cooling, and suspension components should be performed regularly. Maintaining your car is a very important step that every car owner must carry out to increase the life of their cars. Ignoring maintenance because it seems like a hassle will cost you. Regularly Washing Of Your Car This seems like an obvious thing, but you would be surprised how many people don’t wash their cars on a regular basis. Washing of car is the most basic car care. Washing your car removes dusts, grime and dirt that make it look old. Cleaning the windscreen and mirrors increase visibility and prevent accidents. Also, scrub the tires and hubcaps thoroughly to make it clean. When cleaning the body of the car, use a soft towel to mop it so as to prevent scratches. Always wash your vehicle frequently. Remember To Clean The Interior, Too Keeping your car looking brand new involves more than just making the exterior looks good. You must also pay attention to the interior of your car. Regularly clean the insides of the window and windshield. Wipe the dashboard, clean the seats, center console, seat belts and also wash the floor mats in the car. Use a vacuum or broom to sweep and clear dirt in your car’s interior. The best way to maintain your car interior is to do a quick cleaning of any trash each time you exit your car. Use protective sprays too, to keep your seats in good shape. Keep Your Cars In Your Garage If you have a garage, park your cars in it every day. This will protect your car from elements and animals (most especially cats) won’t be able to hide under your car and inside your car engine. Ensure the garage is clean enough and dust free too. It will make it easier to wash your car whenever you have an outing. Use A Car Cover If you don’t have a garage, car cover is another option for you. If you have to park your car outside, car cover will prevent it from dirt, sunlight, damage and even scratches most kids on the streets might just pick up any sharp objects and starts scratching your car, this I have witnessed several times but with the help of the a car cover all this won’t occur. Keeping your car out of reach of sunlight, trees and birds can help your paint and interior remain in good condition. To keep your car looking its best for year to come, a cover is a good investment. Vehicle Maintenance Tips While you keep your car neat, remember other vital parts of your vehicle maintenance checklist. __Thoroughly inspect your serpentine belts and check for wear. If those belts fail, it can cause damage to the engine parts, making a small priced item turn into a huge bill. __ Check your car battery. You should clean the terminal with a battery cleaning brush if needed and always apply dielectric grease to help them stay corrosion free. __ Inspect fluid and tire pressure regularly. The pressure isn’t something you should ignore or delay because tires are one of the most important components of your car for efficiency, safety and comfort. Learn to conduct an inspection on tires and fluids before setting out on a journey. __ Check your air filter. Some problems are due to clogged air filter. The air filter prevents dirt and particles from entering the engine. You should get your filters changed every 12 months or after every 15000 miles. Don’t ignore this as it could lead to problems in your car engine. __ Get your tires rotated and balanced __ Change your spark plugs regularly Maintaining your car is a good idea for your wallet, time and peace of mind. https://carmart.ng/public/blog/how-to-keep-your-car-looking-brand-new-the-ultimate-vehicle-maintenance-checklist/

The lockdown has been relaxed in Nigeria and some countries but some other countries are still experiencing total lockdown. This should not be a problem since you are getting used to working from home. But there seems to be a problem now. Yes it is true that there are some advantages to this work-from-home thing. What about the cons? The whole home office thing worked for a while, but now your kids: Junior and Ada, have figured out how to open the lock, and their new favorite activity is bombing your Zoom meetings and singing their favorite cartoon songs on the background of your live video calls. We are guessing it’s time you start considering the office that’s parked in your driveway? Turning cars into mobile or home workspaces is really not new, started in the 1940s with those massive car phones. It is even quite easier now to outfit your current car with more work-friendly functionality, like Wi-Fi, coffee, and a desk. Here are a few tips on how to turn your car into your own personal office. Desk in the Car LAPtops; as the name denotes should be able to rest well on your laps, right? Despite their name, laptops do prefer a flat surface to rest on, so your next addition to the car office should be a desk of some sort. Sitting with a computer on your lap for hours can cause a lot of discomfort due to the heat coming from the laptop and also the weight of the laptop. It gets even worse in the cramped interior of a car. A simple (and small) lap desk helps with both of these problems. Go for a model that’s padded underneath, and not so big that it’s hard to stow or move around. Not only is it more comfortable, you’ll be far cooler when you don’t have a hot laptop pressing into your legs! Pro tip: you will have your whole “office” to yourself, so we recommend one that works well in your (hopefully) spacious back seat. Why feel cramped when you’re at work? Mobile Hotspot The most important part of today’s office is, most likely, an internet connection. If you’re living in a country like Nigeria where internet service reliability is next to zero, you’ll likely find places where your usual cell carrier has poor (or no) service, but there’s plenty of signal with a different company. Rather than just put up with it, invest in a mobile hotspot or dual-SIM phone. Stick a prepaid SIM card from a different carrier inside, and you’ve instantly got better service in more places. Car Charger or Power Bank Many recent cars have 110V AC power ports, and if you have one, more power to you! Oh, you did not know this? Ok!!, I know this is not an article about cars that have AC power ports but you just need to know them. Here is a list of those car models. Cadillac: ATS, CT6, CTS, Escalade, XT5 Chevrolet: Express, Impala, Malibu, Silverado, Suburban Tahoe, Traverse, Trax Chrysler: 200, Pacifica Dodge: Durango, Journey, Grand Caravan Ford: CMAX, Edge, Escape, Expedition, Explorer, F-150, Flex, Fusion, Transit GMC: Acadia, Savana, Sierra, Yukon Honda: Odyssey, Pilot, Ridgeline Hyundai: Santa Fe, Veloster Infiniti: QX60, QX80 Jeep: Cherokee, Compass, Grand Cherokee, Patriot, Renegade, Wrangler Kia: Sedona, Sorento Lexus: GX 470, LX 570, RX 350/450h Lincoln: Continental, MKC, MKT, MKZ, Navigator Mercedes-Benz: E-Class, GLC, GLE, GLS, S-Class Nissan: NV, Pathfinder, Quest, Titan Cell signal booster or wifi booster Boosting both incoming and outgoing signals, you’ll get better data speeds and fewer dropouts and missed calls. In low-signal areas, you’ll also get longer battery life, since your phone isn’t constantly struggling to maintain a connection. Sustenance and Caffeine We realize that you’re already in a prime position to get a drive-through coffee when you’re working in your car, but if you want to minimize your interaction with others right now and can plan ahead a bit, you can get an in-car coffee maker or even an espresso machine that will brew up a fresh drink whenever you need some caffeine. If you’re going to be spending 8-12 hours working in the car and don’t even want to exit for lunch, a 12-volt car-cooler/warmer could find a place in your daily routine to keep your food at the right temperature. You can also decide to raid the home refrigerator once in a while. This will help stretch your legs and give you a chance to use the restroom as well as refill your water bottle using the home water storage cooler. Final Words Since space in a car is so limited, you’ll need to pay extra attention to your posture. Bad posture can lead to negative health effects, including back and neck pain and overuse injuries. Lack of a proper desk is likely to make you hunch over, and the confined space makes it hard to stretch out and keep the blood flowing. Laptop desk or not, make sure you take regular breaks to stretch and change positions. Your body will appreciate you https://carmart.ng/public/blog/how-to-transform-your-car-to-a-great-home-office/

BMW is gearing up to unleash their slew of EV products and I think we all should be paying attention to their upcoming new i4 sedan set to battle the king, the Model 3. BMW’s i4 Concept previews the production car set to hit the roads in 2021. Concept i4 uses BMW’s 5th generation electric powertrain that will be used on the iNext and iX3. The exterior design is said to be very identical to the upcoming road car and here it wears a Frozen Light Copper paint with blue accents. ⠀ It is powered by an electric motor making around 523HP with an around 80kWh battery pack capable of 372miles of range on the WLTP euro cycle aka around 275-300miles in the EPA cycle. And yep, that will be more powerful than the upcoming new M4! The special aero wheels help to not only improve aerodynamics but also to increase range. The rear and front are very BMW for 2020 with the new massive kidney grills, Lexus like taillights, and slim LED headlights. The rear does have this unusual split diffuser though. The interior is finally something fresh for BMW with a new drive system and controllers made from crystal. The main highlights of the interior are the extensive blue and copper accents, something to carry over to production. The first spy photos were taken for the new generation of Honda Civic 2022 and this version is a high-performance version of the Civic Type Type R Type. It is clear with us from the car design that it is bolder than the current generation and is expected to update on a 4-cylinder engine Turbo Supercharged 2.0 liter. The current Civic has been around since 2015, so this new model is right on schedule. We’re used to seeing the normal Civic sedan and coupe before the high-performance variants take shape, but it appears that Honda is flipping the script this time around. This new Type R’s hatchback shape doesn’t seem all that different, but the reshaped headlights and taillights give it away as a new model. We can also see that the interior looks completely different, with its new steering wheel design and a tablet-style infotainment display sticking out of the dashboard. The Honda Civic Type R has hardly gotten stale yet, but it appears that Honda is already working on the next version of its extreme hot hatchback. These spy photos show a Civic prototype that has the unmistakable wing and aggressive wheels and tires of a Type R. And, disregarding the cheeky camouflage that attempts to make the front end look BMW-esque, this appears to be our first glance at the all-new 11th-generation Civic lineup that should begin arriving later this year. https://carmart.ng/public/blog/2022-honda-civic-new-generation-photos-leaked/

A seatbelt is a safety device in vehicles designed to secure the driver or a passenger against harmful movement that may result during a collision or a sudden stop.Seat belts must be worn by all adults in the car, including the driver, unless a specific reason why they should be exempted, and can prove that their exemption is valid. For example, you may not have to wear a seat belt due to a medical reason and children within the ages of 0-3 should be provided proper child restraint. Despite the fact that motor vehicles are equipped with more safety features than ever before, including tire pressure monitoring systems, back-up cameras, and lane departure prevention systems, none of these innovations are as critical to the safety of passengers as a seat belt. Unfortunately, many drivers and passengers choose to ignore this effective injury-prevention device, putting themselves at risk for injuries or even death. Here are a few reasons you should always have them on; 1. Protection A seat belt helps a person get a strong grip to the car’s seat. A seat belt will keep you safely inside your car if you are involved in a crash, without a seatbelt you can be ejected from your vehicle, which is often deadly. There is a longstanding myth that people are better off being thrown out of a vehicle, clear from the crash. The truth is that people thrown from a vehicle are actually four times more likely to be killed than those who remain inside. 2. AirBags Work With Seat Belts, Not Alone Some believe that airbags are an effective substitute for seat belts. While Airbags are an excellent safety feature, an airbag on its own will not protect you. If you are not wearing your seatbelt, it is unlikely your body will remain in a position that allows your airbag to help prevent injuries. Airbags alone will not protect you in an accident. They are designed to work in conjunction with the safety provided by wearing a seat belt. If you are not wearing a seat belt the impact of the airbag can result in serious injury. To get the most out of this safety feature, you must wear a seat belt. 3. It protects your brain and spinal cord Seat belts are designed to protect these two critical and vulnerable areas. If you were to hit your head in a crash, it is likely you will suffer a traumatic brain injury. These can range in severity, from a minor concussion to a fatal diffuse axonal injury. No matter how minor a head injury might seem, it is crucial to always seek medical attention since they often do not produce immediate symptoms. In fact, some brain injuries take days, weeks, or even months before a victim begins to experience symptoms. Likewise, spinal cord injuries can also have serious and deadly consequences. 4. Wear SeatBelts Properly Every car maker illustrates the guidelines for using the seat belt correctly. Follow them as they are. The belt should be placed across the middle of your chest, and should not be against your neck. The lap belt should be placed across your hips and below your stomach. It is not safe to place the belt under your arm or behind your back. These parts of the body are most likely to take the impact when the crash happens. Make sure that the lap belt is tucked below your stomach, across the hip. 5.The Right Fit When you are purchasing a vehicle you may not be thinking that the fit of the seat belt is an important thing to focus on but it is. Try on the seat belt and ask your car dealer about how that specific belt can be adjusted. You can contact the vehicle manufacturer about obtaining a seat belt extender if needed. Also, if you own a classic or older vehicle with lap belts only you can also contact the manufacturer about replacing it with a modern, safer belt. 6. Wearing a seat belt is required by law If your safety is not a good enough reason to wear a seat belt, remember that wearing one is required by law and, if you are caught violating the law, you might face some expensive fines and prosecution. https://carmart.ng/public/blog/6-things-everyone-should-know-about-a-cars-seat-belt/

Why It Is Important To Check A Used Car’s Verification Identification Number (VIN) Before Purchase One of the things one should check for is the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Purchasing a used vehicle without knowing its history is a gamble that you cannot afford to lose. The VIN of a car is the specific identification of that car. No two vehicles can have the same VIN. A VIN displays the car’s unique features, specifications and manufacturer. The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) can help lessen the risk factor of buying a used vehicle by providing missing pertinent information about its history. The VIN can be used to track recalls, registrations, warranty claims, thefts and insurance coverage. It is composed of 17 characters (digits and capital letters) that act as a unique identifier for the vehicle. If you notice it’s less than 17, double-check to make sure that you have the right VIN and have copied it down correctly. Once you have verified that the VIN is less than 17 characters, the VIN is most likely from a pre-1981 vehicle. WHY ARE VIN’S SO IMPORTANT? There are over a billion cars on Earth, and VINs are a sure way to keep track of what happens to them all. Whenever something happens to a vehicle, be it an accident, oil change or overhaul, the event is on the vehicle’s VIN. In other words, your car’s VIN is the key to unlocking the secrets of its past; this makes VINs a handy tool for just about anyone. People that own used cars can use VIN check services to find out if the vehicle has ever been in an accident, how often the vehicle has been bought and sold, what its original production details are, and many more. Also, those intending to buy used cars should ask for the VIN history of the car they intend buying, to give them an idea of the car’s history. A VIN check can also reveal if the car’s odometer has ever been rolled back, or if it has flipped (reached the maximum miles on the gauge and rolled back over to zero). Even people who own new vehicles can use their VIN to establish trust with prospective buyers, should they choose to sell their car. They can also use it to find out where and when their vehicle was constructed, which could prove useful should the car’s manufacturer have nothing to hide. WHERE CAN I FIND MY CARS VIN? The VIN is found by looking at the dashboard on the driver’s side of the vehicle. The easiest way to view it is to stand outside the car on the driver’s side and look at the corner of the dashboard where it meets the windshield. If the VIN isn’t found there, open the driver’s side door and look at the door post (where the door latches when it is closed). HOW TO DECODE A VIN Here is the break down of how to decode your VIN World Identifier Manufacturer (WMI) The first digit of the VIN is the country of origin or final processing plant. For example, numbers, 1, 4, and 5 represent the U.S, 2 is Canada, and the number 3 represents Mexico. The Society of Automotive Engineers is the one who assigns WMI’s to countries and manufacturers. Next is the digit that represents the manufacturer; for example, ‘G’ is for General Motors, ‘C’ can be Chrysler and ‘B’ for BMW. The third digit combined with the first two may identify the type of vehicle, such as whether it is a truck, SUV or car. For example, a Chevrolet truck VIN would start as ‘1GC’. 1 for the US as the country of origin, G for General Motors and C for Truck. Digits 4 through 8 represent the vehicle descriptor section. It contains information such as model type, restraint types, body type, engine, and transmission. Digit 9 is a check digit/ security code. It is a code number/letter the manufacturer generates to verify the authenticity of the whole number. Digits 10 through 17 is the Vehicle Identifier Section. The 10th digit is the model year. The 11th digit is the manufacturer’s plant code. Vehicle manufacturers all have their unique systems for each car, truck, or SUV’s are built. Digits 12 through 17, are digits numbers the vehicle gets as it rolls through the production line. FINAL NOTE The importance of checking a used car VIN before a purchase is essential as it saves you from the stress of later, waste of time, resources and not getting the optimal satisfaction you desire. https://carmart.ng/public/blog/why-it-is-important-to-check-a-used-cars-verification-identification-number-vin-before-purchase/

The Mercedes car brand is a household name in the world of automobiles and also one of the oldest automobile brands, the brand has made a great mark, producing top-notched vehicles with great safety features while upholding class. The Mercedes benz car brand started by creating the first petrol-powered car and patented in January of 1886, Karl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler along with engineer Wilhelm Maybach began marketing the stagecoach conversions in 1901, under the company name Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft. From there, it took 25 years for the brand name Mercedes Benz to be produced after a merger between Daimler’s and Benz’s companies, though the company name at the time was Daimler-Benz. Over time, the company took the name Mercedes Benz. The cars produced by Mercedes Benz are the essence of luxury and they epitomise success. Throughout the last decade and a bit, the German manufacturer has created several amazing cars that have not only taken our breath away, but stolen our hearts. Today we take a look at 10 of it’s best car models; Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG https://i0.wp.com/carmart.ng/public/blog/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/mercedes-benz-sls-amg.jpg The SLS sports car was the first automobile which was built from the ground up by Mercedes’ AMG performance division. The cabin was imbued with design touches inspired by aircraft engineering. The coupe introduced Gullwing doors as an homage to the 1950s 300SL, but Mercedes also offered a convertible for purchasers seeking something less flamboyant. A hefty 6.2-liter V8 gave the SLS a muscular, old-school character. Mercedes made an electric version as well using 751 horsepower. Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan https://i1.wp.com/carmart.ng/public/blog/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Mercedes-Benz-A-Class-Sedan.jpg Introduced in 2019 as a small but powerful sedan, the Mercedes-Benz A Class was warmly received by consumers and critics alike. The A Class competed well in the tiny luxury car segment, faring well against rivals such as the Audi A3 and BMW 1 and 2 Series. The 188-hp 2.0L engine is standard for all trims, yet despite its size on paper, it consistently impresses with the way it carries the car around. It’s a beautifully designed and conceptualized car that will appeal to anyone looking for both sportiness and practicality. And aside from BMW’s 2-series, competitors don’t really have an answer for it. MERCEDES A CLASS (W176- GEN) The W176-gen Mercedes-Benz A-Class can be regarded as a game changer for the brand as it’s replaced model didn’t have a place in automotive history. it was the best-looking hatchback on the market (premium or budget) and its larger proportions meant it could better serve the needs of a small family without breaking the bank. Some of it’s amazing features includes; the vicious A 45 AMG, a true pocket-rocket hot hatch that extracted 376 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque from a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine. MERCEDES S-Class(W222) It’s no doubt that the Mercedes S_ class is one to be identified amongst the brands range of cars while still taking its place in the automotive market. The W222 S-Class, still on sale today – albeit in its facelifted variant (and soon to be replaced by an all-new generation) – brought together everything Mercedes-Benz could deliver to top-shelf levels on all fronts. It has FlexRay optical fiber wiring, an Intel Atom processor for the COMAND interface. Also included are road-scanning active suspension that adapted instantly to the roughness of the road surface, coupled with a revolutionary multimedia setup. Not only is the S-Class one of the most comfortable cars in the world, but it nestles up to 621 horsepower under the hood, courtesy of an eager V12. Currently, it beats both BMW, Audi, and Porsche in terms of what it offers for the price. Mercedes Benz G-CLASS The G-Class definitely needs less of hype as it has made a name for itself and now becomes a symbol of luxury. It features one of the most recognizable boxy designs ever, yet no one can deny its aesthetic appeal. The G- class is known to have a unique design and image that makes it stand out offering both top-end luxury and one of the best off-road performances of any modern luxury SUV. https://carmart.ng/public/blog/5-best-mercedes-cars-of-the-decade-in-2020/

When you want to buy a new car, which features do you pay the most attention to? Most of us judge a car based on its engine capacity, its fuel efficiency, its size or the level of comfort it offers. Few of us, on the other hand, pay much attention to our car’s battery. As one of the most important parts of any modern vehicle, your car’s battery manages a massive range of tasks and devices, from starting the engine to powering in-car computers. The proper functioning of a car is based on various elements and one of it is the battery. The main function of a car battery is to start your car. Today, most cars have a single maintenance-free 12-volt acid battery. The car battery is rechargeable. It uses its charge to power the vehicle systems while it's parked and to turn over the engine when you want to start it. The battery working mechanism includes starting a car, this involves turning a key or pressing a button while your battery is doing all the heavy lifting. Starting the ignition sends a signal to the battery that kicks off a chemical reaction inside the little black box. The reaction turns into electrical energy that gets the starter motor running and the engine cranking. If your battery is dead, your lights might flicker but your engine won’t have the energy to turn over.Although batteries can last for five years or more when properly cared for, most car batteries will become worn down and inefficient within three years of everyday use in normal conditions. Just like your computer or smartphone’s battery becomes less efficient with every charge, your car’s battery gradually deteriorates every time it’s charged up by the vehicle’s engine. After three years, it’s normally time to install a replacement. This is because the average car battery has a lifespan of three years and it is advised to get it replaced every two and a half years. If your battery has reached its peak lifespan, you might run into problems if the battery isn't replaced anytime soon. Even if your car is running well after the three year mark, it's probably wise to have the battery checked as a precaution. Here are some other telltale signs that a car battery needs replacement 1. DIM LIGHTS AND ELECTRICAL ISSUES Even a car with a highly defective battery will function properly once it’s running, since much of the charge for the battery will come from the engine. This makes the best time to test your car’s battery is shortly after you switch your vehicle on. Your car can still start quickly, even with a failing battery. However, features that have significant power demands, from your lights to your radio to your dashboard computer that are powered by the battery, may not function as well as they should. If the battery is losing its charge it will have a harder time running these things at full power. The more things you plug into your car while driving — like your phone charger — the faster your battery will die. This is a great way to check if your battery is starting to fail. A completely broken battery is even easier to spot: when you turn the key in the ignition or push your car’s ignition switch, it won’t start at all. 2. A SLOW STARTING ENGINE Over time, the components inside your battery will wear out and become less effective. When this happens it takes the battery longer to create a charge for the starter and you’ll have to wait a few extra seconds for the engine to turn over. A slow start is usually the last gasp before a battery kicks the bucket. 3. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON In most vehicles, the check engine light can mean just about anything and it may come on when your battery is running out of juice. Check your manual and get your battery tested by a mechanic to see if it’s working at full capacity. If not, you should get it replaced. 4. A BAD SMELL AND CORRODED CONNECTORS Do you detect a pungent, rotten egg smell from your vehicle? If you do, there's a high possibility that your car battery is leaking. Another indication of a leaking or faulty battery is corrosion around the battery terminal. Usually found on the + and - cable connectors, corrosion affects the current flow of the battery to the rest of the vehicle. Although the corrosion can be cleaned, it's only a temporary solution to the problem. Another thing to take note about a leaking battery is that the acid can actually eat away at other engine parts, which will cost you more money to replace. If you suspect your car battery is leaking, it's best to get it checked out as soon as possible. 5. SWELLING OR BLOATING BATTERY CASE If your battery casing looks like it is pregnant, this could indicate a battery gone bad. You can blame excessive heat for causing your battery case to swell, decreasing your battery life. 6. LOW BATTERY FLUID LEVEL Car batteries typically have a part of the casing that’s translucent so you can always keep an eye on your battery’s fluid level. You can also inspect it by removing the red and black caps if they are not sealed (most modern car batteries now permanently seal these parts). Bottom line: If the fluid level is below the lead plates (energy conductor) inside, it’s time to have the battery and charging system tested. When fluid levels drop, it’s typically caused by overcharging (heat). 7. AN OLD BATTERY Your battery can last well beyond three years but, at the very least, have its current condition inspected on a yearly basis when it reaches the three year mark. Battery life cycles range from three-to-five years depending on the battery. However, driving habits, weather and frequent short trips (under 20 minutes) can drastically shorten the actual life of your car battery. https://carmart.ng/public/blog/7-signs-to-tell-you-your-battery-needs-to-be-changed/

Proper car fluid management is one that is needed for all cars. This is essential to keep your car in good running shape between major tune-ups. It’s an inexpensive and simple way to prevent engine wear or damage, and save money at the auto shop. While checking the fluids in your car is a fairly straightforward process, it does take some know-how. Fluid management is critical to keeping costs low in vehicle service applications, as it can help track the dispense of oils, coolant, antifreeze and other fluids. Effective fluid management in automotive, heavy truck, heavy equipment, and municipality and fleet vehicle service shops can reduce costs and improve operational efficiency, while generating helpful data about dispense history. Complete engineered systems most effectively deliver these benefits, as components are designed to work together to deliver the greatest amount of accurate data possible. One benefit offered by fluid management systems is that metering can ensure the dispense of precise volumes, avoiding costly, unnecessary overfills. With an increasing number of vehicles on the road today requiring expensive synthetic oils rather than conventional ones, precise dispense and inventory management is key to keeping costs down. Here are six fluids you should pay attention to to keep your car running right: 1. Oil Fluid Your engine needs oil to keep the moving parts lubricated. To check the oil, first take your car for a short drive, then wait about five minutes so it can cool down. Under the hood, the dipstick in the oil tank should be close to the front of the engine, near you. It’s usually pretty easy to find. Pull out the dipstick, wipe it with a cloth or towel, and then dip it all the way back into the oil tank. Pull it back out and see where the oil line is. There should be a notch in the dipstick to show you where a safe oil level should be. If it seems low, check the cap or your car manual for the type of oil you should use and then add some yourself. 2. Brake fluid It’s no doubt that the owner’s manual will indicate how often it’s necessary to check brake fluid. (It’s generally recommended you check brake fluid once a year.). Locate the brake fluid reservoir, on- top of the engine. Use an approved aerosol cleaner to remove any particles of dirt around the cap, before removing the brake fluid reservoir. Remove the cap and check the brake fluid level on the dipstick attached to the cap’s underside. If the dipstick indicates the level is low, have your vehicle serviced by an automotive professional as soon as possible. 3. Power steering Fluid Power steering fluid is a type of hydraulic fluid that transfers power in modern vehicles with power steering. It is an important part of your steering system, and it makes turning your steering wheel easy. Replacing power-steering fluid generally is not listed among the regular maintenance items that should be performed, so on most vehicles, replacing it is at the owner’s discretion. 4. Radiator Fluid Radiator fluid is the antifreeze coolant that is used in your radiator to help cool your car engine. It is important to ensure that your vehicle has adequate amounts of the correct type of radiator fluid will help keep your car engine cooler and allow your car engine to last longer. A frequent and occasional check on the level of the coolant in your car’s radiator and cooling system is advised, as well as a replacement when due. 5. Windscreen Washer Fluid Windshield washer fluid is a brightly colored liquid made of methanol, poisonous alcohol. Sometimes, small amounts of other toxic alcohols, such as ethylene glycol, are added to the mixture. The washer fluid is a lubricant for the parts contained, including the washer fluid pump and the hoses. If there is no washer fluid in the fluid reservoir, internal parts of the pump can corrode and the plastic parts can degrade. 6. Transmission Fluid A car’s transmission fluid is to be properly managed. Transmission refers simply to the gearbox that uses gear and gear trains to provide speed and torque conversions from a rotating power source (engine) to another device (wheels). Transmission fluid is used to lubricate the components of a car’s transmission for optimum performance. It is important that the fluid in your transmission is at the proper level to avoid significant wear. https://carmart.ng/public/blog/keep-your-car-in-good-shape-by-maintaining-these-6-fluids/ https://i0.wp.com/carmart.ng/public/blog/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Keep-Your-Car-In-Good-Shape-By-Maintaining-These-6-Fluids.jpeg |
Driving is fun but not when your car is smoking, as this causes pollution both to humans and the environment. A vehicle in a good state doesn’t produce much smoke What causes a car to smoke? There are a number of factors that can make a car smoke, such as coolant entering the combustion chamber, a cracked engine block or cylinder head, or a leaking head gasket, oil getting into the combustion chamber. Which can be attributed to oil sneaking past the piston rings, or seeping past the valve stem seals. Never mind all the technical long story, it takes just a little time to fix it up. Different colors of smoke can mean that different areas of the vehicle are in distress. Here’s what you need to know if you witness white smoke, black smoke, burning smell coming from your car, or if it is simply steam from a hot engine on a cold day. What does BLUE smoke from my exhaust mean? If your car is blowing blue smoke, it’s a clear sign that the engine is burning oil. What happens is that the valve guide seals or piston rings are worn out, and oil is leaking past from where it should be lubricating the moving parts, to the combustion chamber where it’s being burned up with the fuel. A car can also produce a blue smoke of it’s that’s if the car is turbocharged; the smoke being a sign that the blower is in need of rebuilding or replacement. If you notice your car producing blue smoke, Clean the drain back holes carefully and recheck and reassemble them. After the mending job, wait for 2 or 4 more days for the remaining oils to clean away. Replacing Valve seals is not too hard and can be done at home by someone who can work on engines comfortably. Changing the valve seals is dependent on whether the Engine has an Overhead Cam or not. If your Engine has an Overhead Cam, it will require more work as we need to remove it to access the Valve Stem. What causes a car to smoke black color Black exhaust doesn’t always indicate impending doom. If your car emits a little black smoke at start-up, but it clears up as the engine warms to operating temperature, don’t worry – that’s normal for some cars. If it continues after the car warms up, there’s cause for concern. If that’s the case, here are the likely culprits: Black exhaust smoke can appear when the vehicle is burning too much fuel. This could be caused by a clogged air filter, malfunctioning fuel injection system, a blocked manifold, or a variety of other issues. The remedy is simple: replace the filter. If the problem persists, it’s an indication that your vehicle’s air-to-fuel ratio is askew – specifically, it is burning too rich or more fuel than air. Two of the most common reasons for this are a malfunctioning fuel pressure regulator or leaky or clogged fuel injectors. Why does a car produces persistent thick milk / gray smoke A steady stream of thick white/gray exhaust smoke coming from your tailpipe could mean there’s a leaking head gasket. “In this case,” automotive writer Paul Brand explains, “the coolant would end up being heated in the combustion chambers and blown out the exhaust as the engine starts.” A coolant leak in the summer could easily lead to an overheated engine, and an overheated engine could leave you stranded on the side of the road. If your exhaust is sending up smoke signals, play it safe and visit the professionals. Don’t ignore a smoking car, as the problem could become far worse. Even a small leak in the coolant can lead to overheating and serious risk of damage to the engine. A coolant leak can also mix with oil and cause serious headaches for you and your car. An STP’s Smoke Treatment or STOP No Smoke/No Leak can also help in fixing smoke issues If you are unsure of what is best for your car, just ask the sales associates for a “smoke fix oil additive”, remove the oil cap off the top of your motor, and pour in the smoke fix treatment.
