IMO it has to do with interests...some people don't enjoy the number game even though they read courses related to managing numbers or work in an industry that requires dealing with numbers. Also, be ready to be involved in a discussion where you say something and a banker says something contrary and everyone thinks due to the nature of his job, he must be right. Information is key and the more the give out; the more you get...call it positive reinforcements ukay2: |

purpose08:I have not lost a single kobo...infact i have gained an average of 12.5% per year. However, investments are never risk free. I give you an example...we sleep to regain lost energy for work or play the next day, so you could say sleeping is an investment for the next day. Can we sleep and not wake up...yeap, that's the risk of sleeping. Another example is spending thousands or millions in education...so we can get a job in future that pays above average. I leave you with this http://www.agusto.com/rating.php?id=104 ...Agusto and Co is rating company and this is what they have to say. |
purpose08:All these pple with 5,000 naira (movie tickets and popcoorn for two) that want you to do calculations sef... I will try and explain and am in a very humorous mood so bear with me.I think what you have done is about right, no matter how small your money is, you should do proper risk assessment and ask when in doubt (try not to overthink it though). The rate (13.8%) changes from time to time, it could be 14%, it could 12%. However, it has not been lower than 10% in 3 years to my knowledge... The rates are yearly rates but calculated on a daily basis but that does not mean you will get 13.8% every day or month. There is a calculation to convert those rates but lets not bother ourselves with that. Let us make a fair assumption that over the course of a year, the average yield for FBN MMF is 12%. It means you make 12% on your 5,000 in a year, or approx. 1% on your 5,000 every month and you can take it futher by saying you make approx. 0.033% per day if they use 30 days in a month or 0.022% per day if considering a 22 working days in a month. Consequently, in a year you make 600 naira profit, a month you mke 50 naira (it is painful to go further on 5,000naira) but am sure you get the gist. Yes, you can lose all if the Stock Exchange, Bonds market and the Federal Government collapses or the world ends. That seems fair I believe...lol. The company is backed up by FBN Holdings and regulated by SEC as mentioned by Ernie and they invest is bonds, equities and other securities so unless there is a catastrophy you are safe as far as loosing all is concerned...Can you lose some, possible but unlikely. If the above seems complicated, scratch that...here is a summary 1. On your 5,000 you make about 50 naira every month 2. Your capital is secure, low risk of losing it 3. Start now and do not over think it I bill my clients per hour and your bill for the above is 10,000 naira ![]() |

Interesting thread...Oga Spyder...when are you coming to Lagos? We need you ![]() You are doing a very excellent job and I quite love the fact that a number of people have been challenging your thoughts also. All that ends well is well. |

praise010:There is no best option, luckily you can get into any of them with 500k. Select one that resonates with you more or you can decide to spread it around. All the best |
misskenny:You are welcome...Amin here is a factsheet for Heritage (July-2015) just released yesterday http://www.fbncapital.com/docs/default-source/fbn-heritage-fund-fact-sheets/fbn-heritage-fund-factsheet---jul-2015.pdf?sfvrsn=2 |
lancee:Most people will be in the red zone. I have not seen this much red in my accounts (thank God for 7up, Transcorp and Berger Paints). Time to buy sha...everything is cheap! |
misskenny:In the 2 years you have been with them, they have paid dividend twice...FY13 was 10 naira per unit and FY14 was 11 naira per unit. Not sure what the price of each unit was when you bought into them... I would like you think you may have received dividends in the range of 15-20% over the 2 year period (7.5k - 10k) and some price appreciation. My advice, get in touch with them (info@fbncapital.com) and request for realtime access to your account then you can take it from there. |

Interesting choices and sincerely will depend on each individual's perspective. I will pick 20m over a green card but somethings to note are below if you decide to pick a green card over 20m tax free money which gives you leverage 1. Having a green card does not guarantee you a job (Do you have what it takes to compete in that market...got to be real to yourself) 2. For mortgages, cars, education and the good life we all want, you need to take a loan (gbese) 3. An investment in education does not necessarily yield good profits (there are several pple neck in debt for thousands of dollars in student debt) 4. For everything the advanced countries have that make them very attractive to all of us, you pay for (no free ride) 5. Nigerian is not as stable as any of these economies but do you wonder why foreign investors still invest in our economy? (the higher the risk, the higher the reward) 6. You can have the 20m and still stand the chance of getting a green card and vice versa I will like to think if one thinks he cannot make it in this country with 20m naira even as unstable as we like to think it is, he/she will find it difficult everywhere else. |
The UK has told us what they want which is a good step. When applying for a student visa, you know you get to go to school alone. If you do well, a company may be interested in you and sponsor your work visa to bring you back after your education is complete. This might even make you work harder in school. If the investment in education in the UK is not worth it, go to another country or better still remain in Nigeria and study. It may have been fair to look for those defaulting on their promises but we all know that will take too much energy to sort out so they result to a blanket rule which still seems fair. I don't know where we sometimes get this our sense of entitlement and cannot demand the same in our country. All the best guys. |
Toktee:That's because He is fair...it is about what you put in most times with a few exceptions (His Grace). |
This is to say thank you to the poster. This is a very selfless duty and gives an expo to anyone that is/was interested in this job. I am not interested because I have something better but if i did not, I will give it a try. This is way better than staying at home and complaining about no job. Opportunities present themselves in several ways and I see this as one albeit not for me. The conditions are tough but you already know what they are...are you a Dangote Man! Let the game begin. Good job poster! tunery004: |
thorland:Well...I guess we all have different temperament. I will rather hear the truth and buckle up than be told lies. Silence still feels golden though. |
ogbmay:There is NEWGOLD http://www.newgold.com/ and it is traded on the NSE as an Exchange Traded Fund (ETF). Am sure you will be able to get genuine information from the below http://etfcib.absa.co.za/Fund%20Documents/NewGold%20Datasheet%20Nigeria%20March%202014.pdf http://www.investadvocate.com.ng/index.php/capital-market/3223-absa-capital-lists-1st-etf-on-nigerias-exchange-at-n2-526 |
megainvest:The stock market everywhere has its peculiarities...the samething happens everywhere. |
Something to ponder on even though there might be exceptions... "You don’t need to be an expert in order to achieve satisfactory investment returns... Focus on the future productivity of the asset you are considering.. If you instead focus on the prospective price change of a contemplated purchase, you are speculating.. Games are won by players who focus on the playing field – not by those whose eyes are glued to the scoreboard... " - Warren Buffett |
