omenkaLives: But we know this judgement can never be executed. We're in the third month of 2022 already, and by the time the appeal court might be preparing its judgement, we could be talking about a handover to another elected governor in 2023.
The judgement is what it is- a mere pronouncement. It's only utility I see is it making it alot more difficult for incumbents to change parties at will. That judge is highly high. I'm sure they'll get a stay of execution today until determination of issue bordering on jurisdictions of the court to hear the matter in the first place. |

kingphilip: I have always been against the idea of carpet crossing because in the real sense, it doesn't make any sense to do so.
Both APC and PDP have different idealogies and what's the essence of you carpet crossing? Is it that you've changed idea or what?
But this is Nigeria sha, even when they do not carpetcross if they find a common ground to loot the country dry, they'll unite even across partylines to do so.
I hope the judgement stands so that the useless carpetcrossing can go to hell. The law should state clearly that no cross-carpeting and it'd stop and it should create grounds upon which that can happen. Now that independent candidature is allowed. Again, no party ideology in Nigeria. |
Politics › Re: Court Sack Of Umahi, Deputy, Lawmakers In Order — Lawyers by Caseless: 7:05am On Mar 09, 2022 |
kahal29: The judgement erroneously relied on Section 221 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) as well as the judgment of the Supreme Court in Faleke v. INEC.
Unfortunately, the Supreme Court decision in Faleke v. INEC does not relate to the consequence of the defection of a governor from one political party to the other. A more apt instance will be the Atiku Abubakar scenario wherein Atiku Abubakar as Vice President, elected under the PDP, defected to the then Action Congress.
The position of the Supreme Court was reported as Attorney General of the Federation V. Abubakar (2007) 10 NWLR (part 1041) 1. At page 124 of the report, Justice Onnoghen set down the position thus:
“There is nowhere in the 1999 Constitution where it is stated that the President or Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria shall be removed or is removable from that office if he defects from the political party on whose platform he was elected to that office and joins another political party.”
It is the constitutional responsibility of the legislature to make or amend the laws including the constitution, where the need arises, while that of the judiciary remains to interpret and apply the laws so made or amended. The courts can therefore not add or subtract from the law as enacted by the legislature under the guise of judicial interpretation of the constitution or statute…”
Secondly the case of Amaechi vs Omehia does not apply here cos it is a pre election matter/case. I just don't know what Umahi's lawyer was doing - he focused his attention on the jurisdiction of the court. A young lawyer should be able to drag this judge out. Sagay should not have cited the Amaechi's case here. |
Politics › Re: Court Sack Of Umahi, Deputy, Lawmakers In Order — Lawyers by Caseless: 6:58am On Mar 09, 2022 |
Maxymilliano: Amaechi VS Omehia 2007.
Votes casted at elections belong to the political party and not the candidate.
Sir Celestine Omehia was removed from office in October 2007 after holding office for five months. The supreme court at that time ruled that he usurped Mr Amaechi's ticket for the election and accordingly should be handed back to the rightful candidate in the eyes of the law.
On this ground, Justice Inyang Ekwo's ruling is sound. Amaechi issue had to do with him being replaced by Omehia after he won the primary. And I think Supreme Court said no precedence should be set with that judgment. |

owagbeba: EuroAtlantic information machinery is so vast a complex that Russia can NOT surpass the west in this arena in the immediate future.
The only way Russia could get her voice heard is to capitalize on the western “short-attention” span and drip by drip spread her own narrative to win more ears. People must often react to a headline for a few days and literary get tired of hearing that news. Give it a few more days Russo-Ukraine conflict won’t make it to NL front page.
China was very clever as setting up all western media / platform alternatives thus preventing the west from gaining an information foothold within China. Facebook, Twitter, CNN, BBC, WhatsApp are blocked in China except through VPN. But the catch is if you connect via VPN then most Chinese banking apps and Alipay won’t work it is the aspect of media campaigns that Russia lagged, I guess. They can't match the west, but they should have done something - no matter how little like Iran did with press TV. Twitter was practically drowning the voice if Russians giving fact of the situation. You'll be shocked to know Putin has many silent supporters than Ukraine has in vocal support. Putin was able to get Muslims to support him on moral grounds by referencing what the west did with Iraq, Libya, Syria, Egypt, Somalia and Palestine. Indians can't forget the support they got from Russia when everyone was against them. Chinese people are with him. So, it's a divided world right now and I'm on the side of humanity. Zelensky should declare neutrality on Russia and NATO. |

We encourage a lot of negativity. Doing the right thing at the wrong time.
How can we encourage people who went against their job ethics and responsibilities.
Let no one complain when a doctor that is shedule to carryout an operation start dancing instead of doing what is expected of him or her. We should also remain mute when our politicians loot our resources, and sleep on duty.
Our mumu never do for this country. check the video again and you'd see they were dancing and also opening the door. They were only entertaining. The Russians haven't committed their full combat troops and equipment presently in Ukraine in combat against them even with them firing from Civilian areas and using civilians as human shield.
Ukraine need to seek for peace and end this conflict before it fully escalate beyond what they can handle.
Peace is always better than War. The whole world knows that, if not for civilian consideration and other factors, it won't take Russia 24hrs to overrun Ukraine and take it over. Zelensky should be smart enough to seek peace. Those he thinks would work for him have done their worse and Russia is still pushing. |

gamechanger547: The Truth is coming out but the World need peace....
4 hours ago (21:49 GMT) Kherson mayor says Russian troops in the streets The mayor of the southern Ukrainian port city of Kherson, Igor Kolykhayev, has said Russian troops were in the streets and had forced their way into the city council building, the Reuters news agency reported. Ukraine’s government had earlier played down reports that Kherson had fallen into Russian hands. Kolykhayev urged Russian soldiers not to shoot at civilians and publicly called on residents to walk through the streets only in daylight and in ones and twos. “We do not have the Armed Forces in the city, only civilians and people who want to LIVE here!” he said in a statement. The city is under Russian soldiers’ “complete control”, Russia’s Defence Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said separately. He said that the city’s civilian infrastructure, essential facilities and transport are operating as usual and that there are no shortages of food or essential goods. The propaganda is too much. They even claim to have killed 6000 Russian soldiers. Lies everywhere. |

JosephXavier: I've seen the plan of Vladimir Putin
He wants to round up kyiv, their seat of power and force them to surrender or, if they fail to surrender and the resistance continues, smoke their president out and murder him as US murdered Gaddafi
He is implementing it gradually and things are working according to script for him but at the expense of the lives of his soldiers
Wives loosing their husbands, children loosing their fathers, mothers loosing their sons, friends loosing friends and family loosing their loved ones
It's a terrible situation which shouldn't be experienced
If Ukraine president would agree, he should seek a diplomatic end to these because most nations who they thought would support them failed them leaving and to their fate
As Igbo guy men will say "ugba Na personal" meaning that it is Ukraine territory that is being destroyed and bombarded and it's citizens being rendered homeless and their lives destroyed
Things will never be the same again in Ukraine after this
The rebuilding process won't be easy
It is time to resolve this politically
US and European Union don't want a nuclear war
We in Africa have relatives in Europe who might be affected if push comes to shove, even if the war didn't get down to Africa
We are not even safe from the nuclear fall out if the bomb explodes in Europe Putin knows what he's doing, at least if sanctions would work, he'd have slowed down by now. The Ukrainian president should tell the world he's not joining NATO and he's not a satellite country of Russia - they're neutral. So he can find peace for his people. He must have realized by now that he is on his own. |

I don't think it's fair for bankers to login into your account from their page and see whatever you have in your account. For that to be displayed, the system should be made to request OTP from the owner to authorize that. In fact, they should not have access at all. |
