The World Cup group seedings are out and unfortunately Nigeria are in pot 4. This means that the Super Eagles don’t get to meet any ‘very easy’ team. And this also means Nigeria have higher possibilities of meeting the tough teams.
But considering they good showing at the CAF World Cup qualifiers and recent mauling of Argentina in a friendly, there is hope for propitious World Cup campaign.

After taking a critical look at the pot seedings I crafted the 3 worst possible group fixtures the Super Eagles could get a d the 3 best group fixtures for them.

Here are the group seedings in case you haven’t seen them:

Pot 1: Russia, Germany, Brazil, Portugal,
Argentina, Belgium, Poland, France

Pot 2: Spain, Peru, Switzerland, England,
Colombia, Mexico, Uruguay, Croatia

Pot 3: Denmark, Iceland, Costa Rica, Sweden,
Tunisia, Egypt, Senegal, Iran

Pot 4: Serbia, Nigeria, Australia, Japan, Morocco,
Panama, South Korea, Saudi Arabia



WORST POSSIBLE GROUP I

Germany
Spain
Costa Rica
Nigeria

Nobody wants to face Germany in the group stages, I’m sure of that. Spain is going to be a tough but to crack for Nigeria. A group like this could send us home after 3 matches.

WORST POSSIBLE GROUP II

Brazil
England
Denmark
Nigeria

Brazil and England are good teams with excellent players. If we are placed in a group like this it will be enormously difficult to qualify. Denmark have shown that they are not to be joked with after thrashing Ireland away. Remember what they did to Nigeria in 1998.

WORST POSSIBLE GROUP III

France
Colombia
Iceland
Nigeria

France has the most in form players going to the World Cup. Colombia are experienced and deadly too. Iceland are like dark horses



BEST POSSIBLE GROUP I

Russia
Peru
Iran
Nigeria

I’m pretty sure every coach is praying that Russia is the team given to them from pot 1.
If you are placed in a group like this, we would qualify top of the group.

BEST POSSIBLE GROUP II

Poland
Mexico
Costa Rica
Nigeria

Poland is also another country anyone would like from pot 1. But they are not east at all. Mexico and Costa Rica are pretty decent teams, but Nigeria has a better chance of qualifying from group like this.

Sweden
Nigeria

Yes we just defeated Argentina in a friendly, it is possible we could do it again (or get a draw). Switzerland and Sweden are strong European sides, but Nigeria stands a good chance if qualifying if placed with them.


Now they are over 100 possible group fixtures that Nigeria could end up in. I just picked the 3 worst case scenarios and 3 best case scenarios.
However, am sure that we can qualify from any group if we play with determination and get things right.

Why The Super Eagles Should Not Recall Vincent Enyeama

After a row with ex coach Sunday Oliseh, veteran shotstopper Vincent Enyeama decided to quit the national team.
Much has changed since the most capped Nigerian goalkeeper has left the Nigerian team. He was soon replaced by Carl Ikeme, who put up a good showing in matches like the 2017 AFCON qualifiers against Tanzania and the World Cup qualification match away to Zambia. Carl Ikeme relapsed with cancer and then the mantle passed on to Daniel Akpeyi. He is a decent goalkeeper with experience, but was criticized in qualifying matches against Algeria and South Africa. Then finally Ikechukwu Ezenwa, the Ifeanyi Ubah FC man, took his chance and impressed in the remaining World Cup qualifying matches. He even went further to be named the best goalkeeper at the just concluded 2017 WAFU cup.

However, Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has been clamoring to have Vincent Enyeama return back to the Super Eagles and lead them to the World Cup in Russia. He believes that Enyeama is more experienced and is a much better goalkeeper than Ezenwa. I really believe that Vincent Enyeama should not be recalled back to the Super Eagles.

Of course, Enyeama is much experienced than Ezenwa or Akpeyi, but what do you need for the World Cup, experienced hands or your best hands? Right now Nigerian has a pool of talented goalkeepers both locally based and foreign based. And you will definitely agree with me that our most inform goalkeepers are Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Daniel Akpeyi. Look at it this way, what if the Spanish national team decided to take Iker Casillas as first choice to the World Cup anf ignore in form goalkeepers like De Gea and Kiko Casilla.


Another obvious reason is that Enyeama is no longer the goalkeeper he used to be. He is no longer even first choice in his club Lille. Frenchman, Mike Maignan is first choice for Lille and Enyeama spends most time on the bench. Enyeama for all his incredible qualities is no Buffon and shouldn't be included in the World Cup squad.
You can't expect other players who have worked hard to earn their place (and ticket to the World Cup) to give it up, because of another player who is perceived to be better, because of past achievement.


Vincent Enyeama is Nigeria's greatest ever goalkeeper, ever since his heroic showing against England in the 2002 World Cup, he has successfully manned the post for Nigeria and achieved a lot with the Super Eagles. However, he has made his decisions to quit the national team and should not be recalled, especially now that other goalkeepers have proven themselves.
