No, I think that's Leon Isaac Kennedy.

Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the movie that Sugar Ray acted in and I can't find anything about it online. I watched it in the 1980s.
Yes,you are correct as usual.
Leon Kennedy looked like Sugar Ray my apologies.
What is your opinion about Arguello versus Pryor?
Sports › Re: Throwback: When Pele And Arthur Ashe Were Caught Up In A Nigerian Coup. by Caveatemptor(m): 8:45pm On Jun 14, 2017
There were some great middle weight boxers in those days.
Thomas "Hitman"Hearns versus Marvin Hagler.
Sugar Ray versus Roberto "fists of stone"Duran 1 and2.
Marvin Hagler versus Sugar Ray.
Marvin Hagler versus John "the beast"Mugabi"
Thomas Hearns versus Sugar Ray.
Every top middle weight fought each other,no dodging any body.

However my favourite boxing bout of all time, was the 1982 bout between Alexis Arguello and Aaron Pryor. A total crazy slug fest. Please if you haven't watched this bout please catch it on YouTube. You wouldn't be disappointed!

Hearns had a glass jaw, that's why I suspected that he would lose. He is done for once a solid punch connects with his jaw.

Sugar Ray's dancing and good looks worked well for him. He acted in a movie, but I can't remember the name of that movie.

Hagler looked really mean.
Was he in that jail film "Penitentiary"?

Pray never to witness a coup my dear, every one is a target during a bloody coup. Civilians, soldiers, and students.
No friends,no foes.
That is why I laugh when I hear people calling for coups.
The first victim of any coup is freedom, liberty and freedom of speech.

Naptu2,

Thanks for the mention. Once again a thread that brought back nostalgia.
I was in secondary school when the Dimkas coup occurred. My school was on Broad Street, and we were in school when the principal summoned an emergency assembly to inform the students that a coup had occurred and the Head of State,General Murtala Muhammad had been assassinated. There was concussion every where. Parents were outside the school gates trying to get their kids out. In the end,the principal closed the school and those of us whose parents hadn't come for them, had to find their way home. Broad Street was full of soldiers, welding machine guns and every civilian had to lift their hands above their heads .
My house was at Apapa so I cut to the Marina, with my hands above my head all the way.My aim was to hop on the 2 kobo ferry called Kathleen(Not sure of the spelling).to cross from Lagos,Marina to Flour Mills in Apapa.
However when I got to the Marina ferry terminal opposite the old NEPA headquarters,it was streaming with fully armed soldiers who had taken over the terminus, probably to prevent the coup plotters(Dimkas group) from escaping from the Island to Apapa. We were not allowed to cross from the NEPA side of the Marina to the ferry harbour. We were ordered to keep on moving with our hands above our heads. I now decided to head to Tinder square to see if I could get a bus to Apapa wharf, but when I got there there were no buses. The whole Tinubu square fountain to the Central Bank area was full of soldiers. So I trekked to I dunno take which was a complete sea of soldiers. Complete chaos.
To cut a long story short I trekked over the old Carter Bridge to Ixora Oloja,to Ixora,to Marine beach to Apapa before I got home through blood thirsty soldiers.
It was a terrible experience.

That song belongs to an American songwriter who sold the song to Phyno but because of inabilities to reach agreement over royalty payments later sold the same song to Pia Mia.

Sir, the thread is about celebrating a system called democracy
As far as I am concerned, there is nothing like a system called democracy in this country.
What we are operating is a sham democracy, with a military bequeathed constitution.
Politics › Re: Happy Democracy Day Celebration by Caveatemptor(m): 8:57am On May 29, 2017
TonyeBarcanista:
My Dear Sir, the problem is not democracy but we the people.

We sell our votes for N1000-N5000 every 4 years, thereby exchanging our basic needs for immediate need.

We allow tribe and ethnic sentiment to dictate our political choice.

We turn a blind eye when the man we wish to win manipulate the system simply because he is our choice.

We keep electing (or aiding the rigging) of same failures over and over again.

My dear Sir, you will blame democracy or our choice? Agreed the first arrangement was brought in by military and many people were skeptical but what about the second in 2003? The 3rd in 2007? The 4th where people voted for "Good luck" instead of antecedent in 2011? The 5th where people voted for a man that never outlined his plans for 4 years instead of those that had plans?

What about at state level? APGA has never conducted LG polls in Anambra state since 2006 they took over yet Anambrans are cool with them and keep voting them. PDP likewise refused to conduct when they held sway prior in same state. Yet people over there are cool not minding that they are denied grassroots development. That's a case study as many States simply manipulate LG polls to suit the incumbent party, yet how many ppl complain?

My brother/sir, a society will bear the consequence of her action. We can't blame democracy...
So why is you thread titled,"Happy democracy day"?
Politics › Re: Happy Democracy Day Celebration by Caveatemptor(m): 8:11am On May 29, 2017

It is not democracy that will provide these things, the people elected leaders have the duty. Democracy only allows us to choose who we want and define a system we want.
My friend,
Do you really believe votes count in Nigeria?
Do you really believe that?
Obasanjo first four years was an army arrangement, Abdul salami Abubakar, just brought his military pal and installed him as president.

Okay we have had eighteen years of democracy and ex military rulers Obasanjo and Buhari have had Ten years out of eighteen years?
Buhari that was Military head of state when I was in Secondary school is now civilian President when I am I my middle age and you call that democracy?

naptu2:
I started watching James Bond movies in the 1970s, but I didn't read the Bond (and Simon Templar) books until the late 1980s. I was already hooked on Roger Moore by that time.

Roger Moore is my favourite Bond because of his quick wit and calmness even in the face of danger and his playboy persona, which mirrors his performance as Brett Sinclair and Simon Templar, two characters that I absolutely love (throw John Steed into that mix and you've got me in heaven).

I guess my ability to see the movies and the books as two separate universes come from reading comics and watching cartoons/movies. I can accept that The Thing in Fantastic Four comics and cartoons is different from The Thing in the Barney And Fred Meet The Thing cartoon and still accept that they are both The Thing. I can also accept that Bruce Banner is different from David Banner and still accept that they are both The Incredible Hulk. (Remember that Bond is closely associated with an Aston Martin DB5 in the movies, but in the books he is more closely associated with a Bentley 41/2 litre, so I see them as separate universes).

My mum agreed with you. Her favourite James Bond was Sean Connery (she didn't live to see Daniel Craig). I also spoke to a Nollywood actor ( yesterday morning) who also believes that Daniel Craig was the best Bond because his portrayal closely mirrors the James Bond character in the books.

My worst James Bond actor is Timothy Dalton. I liked him when portrayed Mr Rochester (in Jane Eyre), but he didn't look convincing to me when he acted as James Bond. He looked out of place.
What I absolutely hated about Timothy Dalton was the way his eyes used to twinkle,I just couldnt relate a twinkling eyed Bond to the books because i had read a lot of Ian Flemings books before I began watching the movies. however in fairness to Dalton,I think he portrayed Bond as
Ian Fleming intended him to be in "Licence to Kill" . the eyes still twinkled though.....

Great post as usual,Naptu2.
RIP to Roger Moore, who I'm my personal opinion as a James Bond aficionado, was a great actor because of his longevity in the acting business but the worst actor to play James Bond from the lot.
He was too comical and a total departure from the gritty, hard core killing machine depicted in Ian Fleming's novels.
I loved Sean Connery as Bond and he is and will always be my favorite Bond but in all honesty I think Daniel Craig and Pierce Brosnan are the closest acurate portrayal of what Ian Fleming wrote about.
A cold calculating killing machine on her majesty secret serrvice.
Your opinion?

I foresee a massive clear out of players this summer.
Rooney just has to retire, forget the goal.
Martial appears to still be sulking about the number nine shirt. Maybe he needs a loan spell somewhere else where they can give him the number nine shirt.

I wonder who Jose will make his captain next season seeing g that he has rotated the armband around a lot of players this season.

blame video/computer games.
for me I expected a better game there though. if they were rubbished in Spain then no reason they couldn't get fried in England. defending is also fine if they knew what to do on the break out, there was this over all unwillingness to even press for the ball. thank God they saw it out.

hopeful it will be 3/5 trophies competed for so its a very successful campaign no matter what any 'pundit' thinks.
We have been in the doldrums since Sir Alex retired. We needed a coach who could come in and take this club by the scruff of the neck and win us trophies with the limited kind of players in the team he has inherited. I personally don't care how he gets us back into the champions League as long as he does it.
We are in a one off Europa League final game where a win by any means takes us straight into the group stages of the Champions League. If it means parking the bus for 90 minutes to suceed I am with Jose all the way. I repeat we do not need to play pretty footie to do this.
Once we get into the Champions League we will be able to attract the kind of quality of players this club deserves then pretty football can follow.
I expect a massive clear out of players if we win the Europa.

but they would eat their humble pie..but if we don't win,we work on next season...the expectations here are a bit unrealistic

someone said on this thread here that the price tag doesn't make a player better and I agree,y can't the fans just wait till the end of the season before giving a serious critique about the performances and targets...

always bad blood and bad vibes here..
even as we qualify oo...
Some of them are not true United fans. Just trolls or supporters of other clubs pretending to be United supporters.
Try not to take some of them serious. Just drop your comments and pull out.

United are in the final of the Europa. If they win it takes them direct to the group stages of the Champions League.
What else do people want?
Fourth place in the Premier League takes you into at least one qualifier round or two before the group stages.
Now tell me which entry into the Champions League is better?
