The question I want ask is who fixes the import duty for goods in this country.
If the power is vested solely on customs then the law should be reviewed as the actions of the customs in recent years leaves much to be desired.
policy summersaults are not the best way to run a country and for the fate of 200 million people to rest on the whim of a single person is very wrong.
An ECOWAS committee on Customs fixed the tariff for the West African region so that tarriff I'm all West African nations are uniform and simple.
Tarriff go.from 0% for certain goods. 5% for others. 10%,20% and 100% for luxury goods.

All sub regional Customs are under the World Customs Organization (WCO).

customs should make their duties transparent so that agents and officers tuatua collabo will cease.
The e copy of CEMA is on their website.
The hard copy is available at any Federal government printing press. Not more than 3000 Naira.

If found culpable.
What people do not understand is that the laws under which the Customs service operates is different. Customs operates under the CEMA and the powers given to the Comptroller General of Customs is more than that of a minister.
Customs has total powers to seize goods and once such goods are condemned in a court after three months the goods are liable to auction.
The CEMA is on the customs website and hard copies available at government printing press,Boundary,Ajegunle.
Nigerians need to educate themselves.

Did you also READ that he requested the Customs investigate and punish the agent for a fake declaration USING THEIR INTERNAL MECHANISMS?
Agent is the representative of the importer .
In the (CEMA) Customs and Excise management act it is assumed the clearing agent is acting on behalf of the importer.
The penalty for fraudulent evasion of appropriate duty to the (1)Importer-Forfeiture of goods to the government. (2)Agent-Forfeiture of his licence and a outright ban from operating the licence in any Customs formation nation wide.

You are right to extent, but goods must be properly entered on documents.
Rice can not be entered as Yeast. This is wrong classification of goods.
Politics › Re: FLASH: Nigerian Senate Of Fraudsters- Saharareporters by Caveatemptor(m): 2:34pm On Mar 26, 2017
The Customs and Excise Act (CEMA) states that any goods wrongly classified, with the intent to avoid payment of duty or payment of lower duties or with the intent to mislead/deceive an officer...
Such goods are liable to seizure and forfeiture to the Federal government of Nigeria.

So if an importer imported 30 containers of rice which pays a high duty of 100% of the value and decided to enter it as Yeast that pays duty of 10% of value that is an attempt to fraudulently evade appropriate customs duty.
Penalty-Seizure.

Hameed Ali is on a political appointment and the Senate duly vetted his nomination. The question is if Col Hameed Ali's nomination was wrong why did they vet his nomination. They should leave this ego trip and engage themselves with serious national issues.
The Senate did not vet Hameed Alli's appointment as Comptroller General of Customs. He was solely appointed by the executive. He was appointed by Mr Buhari.
Politics › Re: Wearing Customs Uniform Will ‘belittle’ Ali’s Army Achievement - Retired General by Caveatemptor(m): 9:22pm On Mar 19, 2017
This character David Jemibewon is one of the military officers who got to the position he is in today by participating in coup d'etats and overthrowing legitimately elected civillian governments.
His arrogance stinks to the high heavens.

Hameed Alli must wear his Customs Uniform unfailingly on Wednesday. If he can enjoy the perks, allowances and benefits of the Comptroller General of Customs. If he can sit in vehicles and planes embossed with the seal of the CG,then he must put on the uniform of a Comptroller General, however if he is consumed by ego, arrogance and pomposity he should resign and let another take his place.
Politics › Re: Hameed Ali Redeploys Seven Comptrollers Of Customs by Caveatemptor(m):
While the former CG Dikko Inde, ruled the Nigeria Customs like his personal estate and fiefdom where he distributed favours as he liked, the present Comptroller General rules the Nigeria Customs like a conquered and defeated enemy.
Either way the officers are the ones to suffer for the folly of their leader.
Politics › Re: List Of Senators That Mandated Customs Boss, Hammed Ali To Reappear In Uniform by Caveatemptor(m):
Alli was a controversial choice from day one.
He has not achieved any thing spectacular since he was appointed Customs Comptroller General. He was a Buhari loyalist rewarded with the post of Comptroller General for being a good party man.
Last year he failed to meet the revenue target set for him and he will fail to meet the target this year again because of his arrogance and lack of knowledge of the technicalities of customs and excise procedures.

He has not improved the welfare package of the officers serving under him,but expects them to generate revenue for the government running into trillions of Naira .
A Customs Area Comptroller in charge of a command like Apapa port is given a monthly revenue target of monies running into millions of Naira a weekly, yet his monthly salary including allowances is not more than 400,000. Naira monthly and yet you do not want them to be corrupt?
Customs officers, some who have not been promoted for up to eight years do not enjoy any yearly increments on their salaries and you expect them to confront dare devil smugglers and corrupt importers and clearing agents?
Most customs officers are not accommodated in the few barracks available. Most rent and live in houses built by notorious smugglers and yet Alli wants them to confront their landlords. Impossible.
Officers buy their uniforms from smugglers and importers. How can they oppose their benefactors?

Since this buffon was appointed CG of NCS he has always been in the news for the wrong reasons either making obnoxious and unguarded policies or spewing gibberish. Well, i don't blame him; i blame that old, incompetent bubu that nominated him. That also serves the senate right, when next they want to confirm any fuul they will be more cautious and thorough about it. Meanwhile still watching the show as it unfolds
Hameed Alli was not confirmed as Comptroller General of Customs by the Senate.
His appointment is a direct appointment by the executive. President Buhari appointed him direct.
Politics › Re: I Was Not Employed To Wear Uniforms – Customs CG Ali Replies Senate by Caveatemptor(m): 10:14pm On Mar 10, 2017
Alli enjoys the perks, advantages, allowances and salary of a Comptroller General. So he should be able to bury his pride and ego and wear the uniform of the service.
The error started when Mr Buhari appointed him Comptroller General of Customs. The Comptroller General MUST wear the uniform and designated rank.
Mr Buhari should have appointed Alli as a sole Administrator as General Abacha did when he appointed Brig General Samuel Ango sole adminstrator in the 90's
As sole adminstrator he would not be answerable to anyone,Legislators included.
Alli is stubborn and will not wear a uniform to the Senate.
Another crisis brewing in the polity.
Politics › Re: I Was Not Employed To Wear Uniforms – Customs CG Ali Replies Senate by Caveatemptor(m): 10:04pm On Mar 10, 2017
The fact is that the Senate committee on customs and excise are out for Hameed Alli because he has refused to give the senators allocations of seized vehicles and containers like his predecessor Dikko Inde.
However Alli has played into their hands by refusing to wear the uniform of a Comptroller General, because you can't enjoy the benefits of the office without wearing the uniform and appropriate rank of a Comptroller General.

Zlatan just went to stand at the back. You would have thought that mumu Rooney would have comported himself and went to give him the trophy FIRST as the main man. Zlatan is such a boss though. Won the game and let the man 4 years his junior take all the shine on the podium.

My respect for the man grew so much today.
Rooney might be the captain, but the real leader of the team is Zlatan.
Even Rooney knows this.

The sheer wickedness is mindboggling. I am yet to find the justification for this commando style thievery.
Are you justifying economic sabotage?
The government in its wisdom said no bags of rice should be imported through the land borders. These women went ahead and broke the law.
I doubt if you know Ado Odo local government area of Ogun State very well. Smuggling is a thriving business in that community and it is carried out blatantly.
Smuggling is carried out with impunity in that area because of the various creeks and rivers Cris's crossing the area. Security agencies fear the volatile nature of the people in that area.
Do your investigation. Almost all indigienes in that local government are into smuggling of rice and vegetable oil in one form or another including their traditional rulers. You can quote me on this.
In that local government you can go missing if you speak against smuggling. No security agency ventures into that area.
The customs did the right thing in going there in the night or else there would have been a blood bath.

I knew that I would forget something. I wrote about Celebration on my diary yesterday night while planning this thread. The DJ at the Silverbird Man Of The Year Award ceremony played both Celebration and Coffee Song and I planned to include them in the thread, only to forget at the last minute.
Thanks man.
Could you put up the YouTube video for people to appreciate once again.
Great job!

@Naptu2,
Another nostalgic one. Seems I always come late to your threads. Please try using the share button on your OP. Thanks.

I think the song Celebration by the Ghanaian group Osibisa should be here.

And Eddy Grants song Walking on sunshine.
What do you think?

And I think Jonathan Butler-keep holding on, should be in here somewhere.

Once again good job man.

While not excusing the action of blesscar,do you mean you wanted to buy a pedigree dog for 22-25 thousand Naira?

From my experience when a product is advertised at a ridiculously low price it is either a defective product or a scam.

I loved both LL and Kool Moe Dee,but I feel Kool Moe Dee slayed LL Cool J.
I also feel Canibus slayed LL even if LLCool J had better record sales and longevity than the two of them.
I felt Ice T beef with LL Cool J was childish raps.
My opinion though.

Dearies, it doesn't matter if they were each, they started the rap revolution because they were the first recorded rap artists on vinyl.
I had that blue record album and I would invite friends over after school and we would try to rap over the extended single-side 2.

"I say the hip hip the hibit to the hibit hip we don't stop to the boogie to the boogie beat."

Even if they stole their rhymes from the Cold crush they paved the way. I still have side one and two of the Rappers delight album on my systems and when I wanna go back in time I play both sides of the album and enjoy myself.

Kool Moe Dee was the rapper with the space spectacles that had serious beef with LL Cool J.

LL cool J also had beef with Ice T and in later years with Canibus,Wyclef Jean and Mike Tyson.
