I am 100% sure if an investigation was done this was caused by overspeeding or wrongful overtaking. Like 95% of drivers have no proper road safety training. One was overtaking a truck on a bridge at a curve last week. He was lucky to have missed an head on collision with another car. Two red flags of driving, bridges don't have road shoulders so you can't even divert in an emergency and then overtaking at a bend. That's enough to withdraw his license.

Lots of drivers don't understand that trucks have massive blindspots so if you are over taking one you need to let your car be visible and notify the truck driver of your presence. Lots that do sneek up on trucks would end up under the belly of the truck.

No one takes precautions and rinse repeat same accident would happen in another few days.

Although I don't know the time this accident happened but another very common cause of accidents like this especially at night is that many of those trucks do not have rear lights not reflector at all. I almost ran into one about a month or two ago on the express. It was in the night and it had no single rear light plus it was puffing heavy black smoke so it was completely hidden in the dark. It was a narrow escape for me. Another one was just yesternight, this particular truck went dead right in the middle of the single carriage interstate highway and the driver didn't deem it fit to put a C-CAUTION. I wonder why Road Safety isn't doing something about this trucks plying our highways without rear lights. They are just too much.

Good evening car enthusiasts and dealers. I'm in the process of getting a car for my wife. We prefer an SUV because of the terrain of the area where we live so we finally settled for a Tokumbo 2004 Honda CRV instead of a 2001 Camry we had earlier inspected.

I have invited my mechanic to do necessary checks on the car and run a VIN check and everything clicks good, asides the radio which requires a code to come on but he said he will circumvent that code for us. The car is neat and engine and gear are in top condition.

But he's advising me that the parts are a bit pricey compared to the 2001 Camry we wanted to pay for initially, and that it doesn't do well on long distance journeys, especially if we intend to put it on the road regularly, say Lagos to Ibadan and back, as the engine might fail. That it is best for intracity use (short distance commuting) unlike the Toyota which would best any distance and weather without any problem.

So please I need Honda users/dealers/seasoned mechanics to please tell me if this is true.

Is the 2004 Honda CRV Strong and reliable?

Is it easy to maintain?

Is it fuel efficient?

Are the parts easily available?

Please I await your honest advice to guide me and my wife. Thank you.

I'm sure your mechanic is one of those old school mechanics who learn how to repair cars with Toyota and Datsun. Just make sure if you get it he's not the one you'll be using to maintain the vehicle.

For the radio it's simple.
You need first of all the serial number of the radio. You can do that by holding down 1 and 6 together on the radio then turn the ignition to on. The s/n will display so you can quickly write it down. Then proceed to https://hondaradiocodes.com/ and input the s/n to get the code. That's all

Yep, looks dirty to my untrained eyes. Here’s what to do in no particular order; get a soft brush, disconnect the car’s battery, use methylated spirit (leaves no residue), besides I don’t like using petrol except as a degreaser. Also, you can be rest assured that there will be no moisture left on the connectors nor the insulated wires themselves. Reconnect wheel speed sensors, and obviously the Car’s battery. Drive around for a while, if the car’s computer triggers the malfunctions within 15-30 mins after your drive, then get original hella or bosch replacement parts.

Thanks boss. I did as said but issue still persist. It drives well for some time and afterwards it goes into limp mode and I would have to switch engine and restart to get it back worst still it sometimes would from limp mode start revving high as I step on the gas without moving till I switch engine and restart. Or could it be that I didn't plug the sensor into the correct plug as I can see there are two plugs in the picture I attached earlier but I don't know which should be the right side.

There’s a connector for the speed sensor to plug into. Get that checked first, the location makes it very easy for dirt and other particles to make a home there.

I pulled it out and I'm not sure which of those two ports it would enter plus I have to use hand to feel it cos it can't be seen

The issue is what even made me angry is how she reacted. If she didn’t like what my mom said made her angry. At least she should have waited till we got home (this was the first time we were both sleeping over) then she would tell me. Or she could have called my sister and told her what my mom said. After all the fracas, she went inside the room till we left. I just told everybody to just leave her.

So when we got home I told her what she did was wrong that she shouldn’t have reacted like that. Na there war start. She started yelling and shouting at me that if my mom talks to everyone like that she won’t take it (my plan was to tell her that she should apologize to her. Because my mom already apologized that she won’t talk to her again like that. Which I know she will o . So we can just forget about the issue. But she never accepts she’s wrong ) She said I took her to my village to intimidate her in front of my family people, I was really angry and called her uncle and told him what happened. I even scolded my mom before I left that I didn’t like what she said what she did that’s she was just causing issue. But this her attitude don tire me. Break up is not on the card for me at least not yet. She always thinks that they are other guys out there because she has a lot of toasters but I know they can’t do quarter of what I’m doing for her. In this modern time it’s difficult to see a guy who will allow his girlfriend stay with him thereby losing his freedom to do certain things. A guy who doesn’t cheat, a guy who takes care of her does everything for her .

I just think the things she went through in her family is affecting her physiological. And sometimes when I think about leaving her I feel pity because she can’t go back to her parents house.

As promised. Here's the final outcome.
I wasn't able to get a blue coated polarizer, a guy that does glass tinting that I asked said it only comes in black shade and any other coloured one would most likely have come with the vehicle. Dunno how true that it.

Anyway I used the black shade one and now my speedometer and gauges are clearly visible although not producing the original blue background.

No be small thing o...I had to rip out the stereo set, tachometer cover before I can get to the screws that hold the speedometer cluster cover. I guess it's how much I hate not having that background look that pushed me on and I equally used the opportunity to clean all my A/C air vent.
As for getting the overlay replacement I have asked my brother to help me ask his friend that deals in auto parts but if I can get it then I'll probably use a blue tint...sense will not kill me. Lolz

So I decided to follow the YouTube video I watched and pry open my dashboard to get to the speedometer. Here's what I noticed after opening the speedometer, the led is actually white and the blue backlight is actually an overlay(i confirmed this on some Civic forum too)on the LCD screen.
In my case it seems that overlay has been burnt maybe by heat and then I think it's been changed before cos it's not blue but black or maybe the heat burn made it look black.

I don't really know if the bulb is soldered to the panel or its detachable like that of rx300. You will need to bring out to see.

I just watched a YouTube video and it's soldered although the guy in the video was able to change and re-solder but I guess it's not for someone who's not a professional. Also another video on the process of remove the dashboard to be able to access the speedometer looks tedious and complicated. It's looks like removing the whole front compartment from the driver side to the stereo and A/C side.

I just checked your signature and seems you are in PH...that's a long way from here. Guess I'll just stick to displaying the speedometer reading on my stereo display, that's still manageable.

Yeah it's at maximum brightness....it seems you don't understand what I'm describing. You know the display has a kind of blue background light. It's that blue background light that is not there again which now makes the display not very visible in the afternoon.
I have attached a picture below to show the blue background I'm talking of...mine is not having that blue background again

I don't know if anyone has experienced this and got it fixed. Although it looks trivial but I just want it fixed.

For those who are familiar with 8th generation Civic (2006-2011) instrument cluster. The speedometer, fuel gauge and temperature gauge is digital with a blue light background which makes the display visible any time of the day.

The issue is that my own blue light background is not lightening so in the afternoon when the sun is shining bright I faintly see the temperature and fuel gauge against the dark background while the speedometer is even barely visible at all. In the night I can see all clearly cos everywhere is dark.

What could make the blue light background not coming on and how can I get it back on...I love seeing my speedometer when I'm on the highway. It gives me joy.

There's nothin like V4 it's I4... When I has such experience it was because the bearings of the inner shaft spider are broken. Then when the two front wheels were off the ground and allowed to spin freely while the vehicle gear was engaged the left wheel was not spinning but seems to be hooked. After all that was corrected my vehicle became normal.
