No one had bothered to tell the king then. It was sunday, after all.
But any idea that the fire would fizzle out was soon dispelled. On sunday afternoon the blaze reached the River Thames, and warehouses loaded with timber, oil, brandy and coal exploded like bombs, one after another.
A steady dry wind blew continously from the east, so that, although the fire barely reached Pepy's house a short distance away, it spread uncontrollably to the west. There was one stage on the Sunday when the blaze might have been halted. But the firefighters smashed up the water pipes to fill their buckets more quickly and cut off the area's water supply.
The inferno swept on unabated from sunday to Wednesday, by then 13,000 houses had been destroyed, 87 parish churches burned down and 300 acres blackened. The shops built on London Bridge caught fire. Sparked carried across to the opposite bank of the Thames and started small fires in Southwark. The Guildhall and the Royal Exchange - the city's financial centre - were reduced to ashes.
The great conflagration was at St. Paul's Cathedral, where the heat caused the stonework to explode and ancient tombs to burst open, revealing mummified remains. The cathedral's roof melted, and molten lead flooded down neighbouring streets.
Remarkably, only eight people died in the Great Fire of London. Most citizens had plenty of time to flee. The roads were crammed with handcarts piled with belongings, and the surrounding countryside was one vast refugee camp.
Pepys was among those who left the city. He wrote, 'With one's face in the wind, you were almost burned with a shower of fire drops (from this) most horrid, malicious, bloody flame.....(Above it all was) a smoke so great as darkened the sun at midday. If at any time the sun peeped forth it look red like blood.'

By wednesday night fire had been virtually contained, largely due to the personal intervention of the king, who organized the fire-fighters in knocking down buildings to clear a fire-break. But London smouldered for week afterwards. Cellars were still burning six months later.

Baker Farynor's blunder did result in some good, however. The shameful slums of central London were wiped out in a single week. And the fire purged the last vestiges of London's previous disaster, the Great Plague of 1665, which had claimed 100,000 victims

The equation is not balanced, it would have been Us-Nato vs. Russia-China and its allies. We are still saying the same thing. Russia alone cannot win any war against Us-Nato, Rogger that ok?. And a nuclear war between Us and Russia alone is ''lose-lose'' or ''Draw''. We don't win nuclear war. Who will even be the refree/umpire to declear the winner? Lolzzz

This is a complete load of crap in fact I laugh when I see post like this. Russia is always a runner up. So dumb and unprofessional, how on earth would you be comparing Us/Nato vs. Russia. The problem is that, you guys think that there would be a winner if America and Russia start war, Now adding Nato to it is a sucidal mission for Russia. A war between America and Russia is even indecidable talk less of Joining it with Nato. Please compare Us with Russis or Nato with Russia. Thanks

I am limping between decisions, I need your piece of advice to buoy my wobbling senses. A well educated lady is in my radar, I like ladies that control grammar very well, in fact I am a sucker for such ladies. This my lady controls grammar so well and she is beautiful, a graduate.

Now, I also have a young lady that comes around, and I observed that they are both different in manners. She is not a graduate, she stopped at secondary school level due to finance problem.

When this not so schooled lady comes around she always notices disorganized things and would arrange them, would notice dirty floor and mop up,wash dirty dishes etc. She would not greet me without bending her left knee slightly to show respect. She is not as beautiful as the educated lady though.

The graduate lady do none of these things, all we do is just gist.

Lately the school cert lady makes me feel the warmth of a caring lady, I am beginning to notice her more.

I am a graduate with tastes, I don't know what I want again, I am confused, somebody advise.

Today our great Nation is 55yrs. All praise to the Almighty. Half a century and 5yrs back the nation called Nigeria became an independent sovereign nation, our fathers back then were happy. They must have had countless goals in their minds to achieve so that at a time like this people like you and i can say God bless our fathers who gave us the opportunity to have such a prosperous great nation like this. Unfortunately i doubt if reverse isn't the case. Nepotism and tribalism quickly eroded the hope of a greater Nigeria. As if that was not enough corruption stepped in too and all hope of any great Nigeria shattered. Who is to be blamed? I will blame some cultural ideology than individuals. The Hausa/Fulani cultural setting like the old feudal French society believes in the caste system. The rich land owner and the low workers which does not encourage a change in caste. That is their ideology and they don't have a problem with it. It is my believe that this is the same way our first Northern leaders see the whole Nigerian nation back then and they cant be blamed for that because that is the system that they grew in hence believe it is the only right system. However such system is bound to fail and cause trouble in an heterogenous nation like Nigeria just as the trouble of the French revolution that laid the foundation of an end to the feudal system in France. Our early Northern leaders who had ruled the nation more years than any other see no reason to better the lot of the masses as they see them as just the low land workers in the feudal state and they as the privileged land owners who should continually benefit from the wealth produce by their land being worked by the low workerd. Remember that is the kind of society they grew in and its well accepted even by majority land workers. This is the genesis of the downfall of what should have been a great Nigerian nation. But today we have a president who although i do not know yet his stand on nepotism and tribalism, but whom is clear to everyone is strictly anti-corruption. Nepotism and tribalism came in first then corruption followed so lets hope he is trying to fix the nation LAST IN FIRST OUT manner, but at least i believe we now have someone who is gradually pushing us back on track, who will gradually abolish the feudal mentality of our past leaders that they are the privileged land owner who should enjoy all the benefit of Nigeria at the detriment of developing the nation. If the feudal mentality can be abolished without a bloody revolution like that of the old French society in which the poor workers took up the sword against the rich land owners. Then history will have it recorded in Golden ink for the one who has made it possible. Let us all join hand and fight corruption so that Nigeria will indeed be great. Long live Federal Republic of Nigeria and happy independence day.

So I know you'll tell me school first and face your books. Yes, I know all that. I'll be 17 in two months. I'm intelligent and i do very well in school. Most of you guys have passed through my stage and I hope you understand that this is the stage where you start having feelings for the opposite sex. So I hope this doesn't sound like I'm a bad girl or something like that. I don't want you to say things like "what is this generation turning into?" because I'm very sure it happened in the previous generation and there are evidences such as the single mums that i see that got pregnant then. Long story short, there is a boy i like and he likes me too and he just asked me out. I made it very clear to him that we are not going to get intimate and he is very okay with it. I know you'll say it can happen by accident but i know that the only place we can get intimate is at a lonely place so all I'll have to do is to avoid it. The thing now is that do you think getting into a relationship at 16 is quite okay. Mind you, I'll soon be 17.
