In his auto biography, Mandela clearly states the reason for the formation of "Umkhonto we sizwe" translated as the spear of the nation. The armed wing of the ANC party. He stated that it was as a last resort and targeted mostly non civilian areas.

After his imprisonment  Umkhonto stepped up their assaults and targeted civilian  areas much like the IRA did in Ireland. Efforts were made to try to get Mandela to disown this wing of the ANC party as part of a deal to release him or at most move him to a half way prison house. He refused.

The reason he was so listed on US files as a terrorist was infact in relation to Diplomatic ties the US government had with the Apartheid govt in South Africa. The status was never changed even after the US switched gears against the Apartheid government.

so from your point of view what would you call him?

As far as i'm concern Mandella is no terrorist only a freedom fighter who fight to seek justice and freedom for the blacks,i believe if the whole of African nations had been directly under aparthied as it was in South Africa we would all have understood better. Those that came into another man's land to violently take him as slave and work him under harsh labor. Are they not the terrorist? Those who came into a man's land to deprive him of his fundamental human right on his own land and if he dares talk he'll be tortured or killed. Are they not terrorist? Long long list of atrocities. I believe the two words terrorist&freedom fighter are only use by those with the power depending on which side they take. Now suppose in the cause of police engage in gun fight with robbers innocent citizens were hit by stray bullet is that terrorism on the police side?

It doesnt take much education to know dt its an usual naval tradition all over d world to visit friendly countries. A little "googling" will show u how many nations had their navies visit just last year alone. D fact dt d US dispatched a mere frigate shows a relegated naval priority on us as a nation. A "bigger" nation would hav had a cruiser or destroyer visit. Normally, d pride of d visiting navy is on display. Such visits are usually marked wt a lot of activities as joint execise, partying and side shows.

It is a dull reasoning to think dt d US navy wld need to send a mere frigate for intelligience gathering in Nigeria. They hav numerous sattelites to do dt and if it must be by a vessel, dey hav d most sophisticated mapping and under-water intelligiece submarines.

Its a duller opinion to question d quoted number of personel aboard a frigate ship. How many personels/men do u think man a frigate optimally? Do u think a frigate is a canoe or keke-marwa? Then what would u do if an Enterprise class air-craft carrier is on visit? The sheer number of abt 5000 sailors on it wld make get a heart attack. Not mentioning is when a battle group sits or passes around your territorial water wt abt 10,000 sailing personel.

People should be worried, because the US is quite worried about Nigeria's upcoming elections. They have been stating that in news lately that Nigeria's election are pivotal to U.S. national security.

if i may ask how is the election pivotal to US national security? Probably if there is crises there will be shortage of oil export to US or alalqueda will use that as an opportunity to launch attack from Nigeria into US? BRICS taking anti-America stance on the Libya crisis as far as i'm concern will limit the exploitative motive of the West invasion in Libya cos it now an established fact that its just for there self interest that they are in Libya.

US oil imports from African sources have not risen at all in the past decade. And they're nowhere near 25%. There's no sign of any jump in imports from Africa. The article is also self defeating - even if Gadaffi nationalised, he was willing to strike all the deals he could with the West to get himself back on the map. He was throwing his oil away and handing out his people's money simply to enhance his reputation. The West didn't need to go looking to Libya for oil. They already had it.

Whoever wrote the article needs to go away and look at just where the US buys it's oil from. The majority doesn't even come from Africa or the Middle East. It comes from the Americas.

Nobody is sayin its right for any leader to kill his people or perpetrate any unjust act on them but all we're saying is that the west actually capitalise on the few shortcomings to infiltrate our land and exploite us they are only covering up with humanitarian rubbish. We need to wake up from our sleep, we need to reason like free men and not slaves.
Why would some set of oligarchs decide to make life tense for us so that when we are called upon to risk our neck for services not noble we grab it since there is no better hope of survival, after all its said that it is risky not to take risk.

Many dreamt of a better Nigeria yet very close to their graves the dream is not near coming to reality. Even our generation had started dreaming of a better Nigeria but if care is not taken the dream will end up like those of our predecessors.
I begin to wonder why its all happening like this until i was able to answer the following questions 'is it possible to see a dream better than the dreamer or is it possible to ask someone who knows nothing about a dream to work it to reality?' the answer is just No, yet that is exactly what we're doing.
We dream of a better Nigeria but expecting our politicians to work our dreams to reality, what a vain expectation! As James Clarke said that the difference between a politician and a statesman is that a politician thinks of the next election while a statesman thinks of the next generation.
We the people need to come together with one voice and dictate what we want, in the 1800s the workers in America came together and forced an economic change that improved their condition even up till date.
