EducationRe: Causes Of Suicide In Nigeria by CELL2ME2(op): 11:45am On May 22, 2019
asuustrike1:
All you wrote are not totally correct.
Point number one is not correct false preachers with false teachings have been there from immemorial
Point number two is partially correct
Point number three is not correct at all. Poisonous substances have been there before the thought of suicide became rampant and would remain so. Don't forget there are many ways to die aside poisonous substances.
These are some of the factors responsible for suicide in this part of the world
1. Pressure from the society: There certain things the society expect from you as a person. Many believe that as an adult above 25 years, you settle down and have kids (prevalent to the female sex). They believe that you must marry by fire by force without considering your happiness. You can imagine many Nigerians especially on this forum wandering why Banky's wife isn't pregnant?many of them are monitoring spirit especially on this forum.
2. Pressure from families: This is similar to point one. You have inlaws, brothers, sisters, father, mother and other relatives to deal with. These persons would pressurize you to take decision beyound your capacity,it goes beyound just getting married and having kids.
3. Media: Many persons are influenced by what they see on the media as buttressed by you but it goes social media. Do you know that the idea of committing suicide emanate from some of these movies we watch on tv? Many persons have been inspired by what they see hence then tend to copy them
4. Capacity: Someone mentioned on this forum that this generation can not absorbed pain and shock hence they result to suicide unlike in the 70's,80's and 90's when suicide seen as a tarboo. You see many persons committing suicide because of their lovers, failed attempt in exams etc. I think men and women in this platform that experienced worst scenario should share their experience here so that many should learn. Everyone has a story to tell. I put it to you that the owner of this platform and his moderators all have one or more stories to share.

Possible solution to this menance;
1. Reach to your friends, neighbours or relatives who are ready to listen to you
2. Have this thought that if Mr A would make it after several attempt then i will. If i fall seven times i would rise again (7up).
3. Ignore people that are not willigly to assist because an average human being is selfish except for few
I respect your view and also agreed with you. But if you grew up in my generation you will understand what I mean when I talked about false preachings.
1. Then no preacher had private jet
2. Preachers then admonishes their congregations about Godly life and less materialism, but now its the opposite.
3. Churche is no longer a place of solenc, but a place torment for a struggling person.

Increase in the rate of suicide in African recently is becoming alarming. Looking at it personally, I think that there are 3 things that are contributing to this trend
1. Religious preachers deceiving their congregation, and preaching false doctrines about prosperity.
2. Social media and fake life associated with it.
3. Government falling woefully in their duty to control the type of poisonous substances sold in the open.
Africans (Nig) let us speak out and educate ourselves before this menace eats deep in us and becomes a norm.
Very soon they will start saying that the spirit of suicide has been released to the world, and you need to sow seed to avoid it.

If all these controversies are being generated prior to passing this budget, then I begin to wonder the type of controversies that will follow budget implementation.

The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, fbut on building the new. - Dan Millman
This is the summary of the whole game

1. Nigeria at present dose not have any functional government

2. People might think that this omission ll only effect SS/SE but if u ve traveled from Lagos to any state in the SS/SE you will completly agree that somany lives that we loose everyday to bad road would have been reduced if this project is constructed

3. The amount of money peoole pay to trailer to convey goods to and fro these two points could ve ben reduced by 60%

4. Will it be a crime to take a ride on train with our children?

Due to persistent hostility of the Ministry of Aviation and FAAN management, which has culminated in the use of FAAN staff to stop our operations and lock in checked-in passengers in Lagos this morning, Arik Air has no option than to suspend all domestic operations until further notice. This issue bothers on personal interests and not payment of bills, since FAAN has been collecting their charges in advance since 18 months now. Arik Air regrets the inconveniences this disruption by FAAN would cause you. Thank you for your much valued support

Shinor: Should Arik close down, I will come speedily to one conclusion. Nigerians can't run a decent airline business. Before Arik, It was Inter Continental owned by the same guy who owns Victor Vanni Security. The company folded up. OKADA. BELLVIEW. ALBARKA. SOSOLISO. ADC. CAPITAL. All dead.
Last Year Air Nigeria made noise that they were coming to Gatwick Airport from September 1st. They didn't do jack and failed to apologise. Is it that we cannot operate an airline? If we struggle to operate a scheduled bus service guess an airline will be an uphill task
The best local airline in Nigeria today is Indian owned and run - DANA.
Their reason for suspension of this route is not about stuff its all about the inability of the UK and Nigeria governments to come to agreeable terms on the 2008 Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA). Under the terms of the BASA Arik was allocated seven (7) frequencies per week in respect of the Lagos/ London, Heathrow service and seven (7) per week for the Abuja/ London, Heathrow service. The total of 14 frequencies is out of 21 available for Nigerian carriers under the BASA.

TravelRe: Arik Suspends London-abuja Flight From The 25th March by CELL2ME2: 9:49am On Mar 17, 2012
Arik was compelled to suspend its services on the route following the inability of the UK and Nigeria governments to come to agreeable terms on the 2008 Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA).

However, an anomaly exists between access to slots in the respective countries with the Nigerian government matching the allocation of slots with frequencies therefore giving UK carriers unfettered access to its full complement of 21 slots at Abuja and Lagos airports. However, this is not reciprocated in the UK with the authorities drawing a distinction between allocation of frequencies and access to slots, claiming that an application for landing slots at UK airports is a process separate from the BASA entitlement.

From the inception of the route in November 2009, Arik has been in a slot-lease agreement with a UK carrier, leasing arrival/ departure slots on the Abuja/ London route at Heathrow. At the end of the summer schedule (October 2011), the UK carrier that Arik was in the slot-lease agreement with for this route advised the airline of its intention to sell the company and began to wind down its contractual arrangements with Arik Air. Without these commercially arranged slots Arik Air was forced to suspend operations at the start of the winter schedule (2011).

Immediate aero-political discussions were held by the respective governments to resolve the long-existing and underlying anomaly in the BASA. As an abridgement, the UK authorities facilitated the temporary continuation of the commercial lease of these slots in support of Arik Air’s Abuja/ London, Heathrow operation. This interim solution was only available up until 25th March (2012). Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of both governments, there has been no solution found. The situation remains as it was at the end of October 2011 with Arik Air having no landing/arrival slots after March 2012 thus forcing it to suspend the route.

Dr Michael Arumemi-Ikhide, Group CEO/ President of Arik Air, commented on the suspension of the Abuja/ London route:
“Whilst it is regrettable to have to suspend our services between Abuja and London, we simply could not continue with the route due to the restrictions placed upon us in accessing arrival/ departure slots in to UK airports. It is an unfortunate situation and one that we felt was being resolved at government level and we hoped that an agreement would have been reached before the start of the summer schedule. Due to the stalemate we are therefore forced to suspend this route.
“We support any dialogue that will take place in the future between the governments on this issue and we stand ready and waiting to commence when asked to and when we feel that the imbalance had been satisfactorily redressed. Our main priority is our passengers and it is disappointing to discontinue such a critical route and reduce capacity between the countries which gives less availability to the Nigerian traveller. However, we would like to assure our customers that we are fully committed to the UK market and will continue as normal on the Lagos-London, Heathrow route with our flagship A340
