After being flogged by her dad with barbed wire for trying to defend her mother, a 12-year-old is in critical condition. Kafayat Kareem was said to be defending her mother against the father’s assault. The Junior Secondary School student who collapsed from injuries sustained from the assault was taken to the hospital by vigilante members who found her during the night at Oyingbo market in Ebute-Metta. She was rushed to Star Clinic, at Ebutte-Metta, where she is currently receiving treatment. “I live with my parents at 4, Kuforiji Street. On July 7, I ran away from home after receiving severe beating from my father. My offence was that I tried to stop him from beating my mother.” Kafayat said while narrating her ordeal. “My father accused my mother of using his hard earned money to play lotto game and he descended on her with anything he could lay his hands on. He said my mother loves patronizing lotto game officials, and he beat her up mercilessly. “Despite my mother’s cry for help, none of our neighbours came to her rescue because they are afraid of my father. I could not bear the beating anymore and I begged my father to stop beating my mother. He became furious and pounced on me”. She continued: “This is not the first time my father will beat my mother and I. I have lost count of his endless beating. One occasion, I begged my mother to relocate four of us her children to Ilorin, so we can stay away from our father due to his constant beating. “I am the first child; although my mother said my father will change, he has gotten worse by the day. My mother is presently on admission at the Charity Hospital, Orile, following the beating my father gave her. “I could not stand his beating anymore and I ran away from home to meet one of my mother’s friends at Oyingbo market, unfortunately, I did not meet her when I got to the market. I was in great pains and I decided to sleep in the market because I do not want to go back to my father’s house. “It was while I was sleeping at the market, that some vigilante men came to my rescue. I told them my plight and they took me to the hospital where I am presently receiving treatment”. http://www.metronaija.com/2015/07/father-flogs-12-year-old-daughter-into.html cc: lalasticlala |

Adewale Ayuba, a renowned Fuji music artiste, is not only a born-again Christian but the day he decided to follow Jesus Christ remains the happiest day of his entire life. Ayuba made this known to journalists during his 50th birthday, Ayuba said he had since realised that the essence of life is to worship God. “I will not lie to you. When I remember the day I gave my life to the Lord Jesus Christ, I am happy, the day I became a born again, that was my happiest day. Now I realise this life is to worship God,” he said. Asked how he came about the decision, he said he could not precisely state how it happened: “It’s what brought me to Fuji music. I don’t know. I remember I had a lot of Islamic clerics who came to pray for me and when they left, I would still go to my room to read the Bible. “I think my conviction was in the Bible. It got to a stage that my children would be laughing. They would say, ‘Daddy, choose one’. But I did not want to pick like you said, because of Fuji. It has Islamic origin, my background, how would my family feel? “I didn’t want to offend this; I didn’t want to offend that but I discovered that religion or belief has nothing to do with your musical life and no one says we are listening to your music because of your personal life or so.” On the significance of his golden jubilee, he said life now has a different meaning to him, as he now takes each day as it comes, focuses on God and takes things easy. “I thank God because it’s a big opportunity. It’s only God that can make one get to that age. I thank God for His mercy over my life and I am grateful to God for the door of understanding that He opened to me. I am always conscious of the fact that we did not come to this world with anything and we are not going with anything,” he said. “I see life as a very simple thing now; I am not in a haste or say I must have this, I must have that. The important thing to me is that I need to enjoy myself. That is key. If care is not taken, you will just keep on looking for this, you want to become that, till you get to your old age and just die or you begin to regret when you get to 70 or 80 that I have never been to Dubai for holiday, I only go there to perform or I have never been to London for two weeks holiday, I only go there to perform. When you go to a place to perform, it’s your work, so you must arrange a date that oh, I am going to London for holiday. I take my children on holiday and it’s not work, work, and work. Now that I am 50, I will do more of that.” He also spoke on the choice of his wife, a south-easterner whom he met in the United States, and how his parents accepted her without prejudice to her ethnic origin. “God connected me with my wife. I saw my wife in New York at my school’s Cafeteria, and I told my friend who was beside me, that is my wife,” he said. “We returned to eating our food and by the time we raised our heads, it was the lady who was standing in front of us. She asked if we were Nigerians, and we answered in the affirmative. Then she asked us to go to room 202 that we were trying to gather and all that. Eventually, we introduced ourselves and I discovered she lived two buildings from my house and that was how God did it. “I thank God because, my parents didn’t care [that she is Igbo]. When I took her to my mother, she greeted her but she could not respond, then I told my mum that my wife did not understand Yoruba. She held her head and prayed for her. That was all.” On managing advances from female fans, he said: “Let me tell you, it takes two to tango. Everything comes with a compliment. Things that will take you down start with a compliment and things that will take you up come with a compliment; it’s for you to decide which one you want to do. “Okay, you see a lady telling you Mr. Johnson, I love the way you dress and so on. You say ‘thank you’ and you did not even wait. I have not seen a man that was raped. If you don’t take a woman to a corner, nothing can happen. Some people would say because I am a public figure, they want to date me and there is nothing I can do. It’s a pure lie. It takes two to tango.” http://www.metroparrot.net/2015/07/fuji-artiste-adewale-ayuba-is-now-born.html cc: lalasticlala |
The police on Thursday arraigned a 29-year-old businessman, Manya Obiora, in a Kado Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for assaulting two policemen. Obiora, who is a businessman and repairs cell phones, resides at Zone 7, Lugbe, Abuja. The prosecutor, Inspector Simon Ibrahim, told the court that the matter was reported by two policemen: Corporals Kelechi Odurobi and Henry Ossia, attached to Utako Police Station, Abuja, on June 11. He said that on same date, the policemen went to Kanapy market, Wuse Zone 3, Abuja, to invite one Chidi for allegedly receiving stolen property. Ibrahim said that Obiora left his shop to the place of arrest and hindered the policemen from doing their lawful duty. He added that the officers later asked him to excuse them to avoid the accused from escaping lawful arrest. The prosecutor said that rather than allowing the policemen to carry out their duty, Obiora held Corporal Henry Ossia and assaulted him with his working tools. He said the accused even threatened to ensure their dismissal from the Nigeria Police Force. Ibrahim said this made the initial accused to escape lawful arrest, adding that the offence contravened sections 167, 267, 397 and 327 of the Penal Code. However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge against him and the judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, granted him bail in sum of N50,000 and a surety in like sum. Sadiq ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and adjourned the case until August 3 for further hearing. http://www.metronaija.com/2015/07/man-arrested-after-beating-2-policemen.html |
