Georgia Oboh won after a great final round of 69 at the US Kids Golf Teen World Championship held at Mid Pines Inn and Golf Club, North Carolina. The event ran from July 23 through July 25.

Georgia is currently a student of golf Academy at Manchester, UK and has represented Nigeria in various international events, the most current being the 2014 Junior Golf World Championship in Florida which held from December 27 to 30.

In two separate incidents in Lagos,Nigeria, two persons have died inside wells.

In Imota, Ikorodu area of Lagos, a 60-year old man accidentally fell into a 120 feet deep well. He was recovered, dead.

In Idimu area of Lagos, a middle-aged woman committed suicide by jumping into another well. The woman, said to be aged 53, deliberately took the plunge into the 130-feet well.

The Imota incident happened near the Town Hall at about 4 a.m on Friday.

Director, Lagos State Fire Service, Rasak Fadipe said the man was recovered from the well dead around 8:13pm. He identified the deceased as Adeoye Afolabi.

He said the man had woken up around 4a.m on Friday and told his wife he had an appointment to catch. He was also said to have told his wife to boil water for him to take his bath.

Fadipe said when his wife finished boiling the water, she discovered that the man was nowhere to be found. Later she saw his bathroom slippers close to the well and raised the alarm.

The woman who dived into the Idimu well was identified as Amoke Adeoko. The incident happened on Friday night, according to the Director of Lagos Fire Service, Rasak Fadipe.

She was brought out dead around 11:05pm by firemen from Ikotun, supported by Alausa Fire Station.

According to him, the woman might be mentally deranged and had been abandoned by her children.

“The woman was said to be in control of one of the storey buildings in the compound which her late husband left behind for her. But her children abandoned her because of her state.

“On Friday, one of her children was said to have come around the house and bought a gift for her. Unknown to him, the woman sighted him afar with the man sending the gift to her through somebody else and he did not come to see her.

“It was probable that the woman was fully conscious about the slight at that time. She then deliberately jumped into the deep well and was brought out dead,” Fadipe stated.

Fadipe advised people having aged people to ensure that they assigned somebody to them.

He also advised that wells inside compounds should be covered and padlocked to avoid people falling into them.

The Police in Ekiti State, on Tuesday, dragged a 35-year-old man, Dare Olubobokun, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates' court for allegedly slapping a retired judge.

The prosecutor, Mr. Bankole Olasunkanmi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on January 15 at about 9:30 a.m. at Awo Road in Igede-Ekiti, headquarters of Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.

Olasunkanmi also alleged that the accused, on the said date, slapped one Justice Agbelusi Abiodun (retired) and also destroyed his cell phone valued at N20,000.

The prosecutor, however, applied for a date of adjournment to enable him study his case file.

According to him, the offence contravened Section 351 of the Criminal Code, Cap C 16, Vol. 1, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

The accused pleaded not guilty as his counsel, Mr. Babatunde Falade, prayed the court to grant bail to his client, with a promise to provide reasonable surety.

Chief Magistrate, Idowu Ayenimo, consequently granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He added that one of the sureties must be a civil servant on Grade Level 14 and adjourned to September 4 for further hearing.

Five Star Music recording artiste KCee made headlines again at the weekend when he gave out the sum of N70,000 at the Star Music Trek 2015, concert at IBB Square, Makurdi.

While belting out hits like ‘Pullover’, ‘Limpopo’, ‘Hakuna Matata’ and ‘Your Face’ to the delight of the capacity crowd, he decided to put on an impromptu dance contest for members of the audience. The fan who came first in the contest was rewarded with N50,000 on the spot while the second placed fan was given N20,000.

The show, which also featured performances from 2Face, Runtown, Yemi Alade and MI amongst others, was the first of the second phase of this year’s Star Music Trek.

The United States is ready to provide military training to help Nigeria’s battle against Islamic extremists, the leader of a US Congressional delegation said here.

Nigeria’s military is not outgunned by Boko Haram and needs training, not arms, to defeat the insurgents blamed for the deaths of thousands in three countries, said Rep. Darrell Issa.
Issa spoke after his four-person bipartisan delegation met with President Muhammadu Buhari and military service chiefs.

Issa’s statement contradicts Buhari who asserted, after meeting President Barack Obama at the White House last month, that the United States is aiding Boko Haram by refusing to sell attack helicopters to Nigeria.

The US Leahy Law prohibits all aid to specific military units which have been found to violate human rights. In the case of Nigeria, US officials have said that some units have been vetted and deemed eligible for assistance, and others have not. Amnesty International has accused Nigeria of killing without due process an estimated 8,000 people suspected of involvement with Boko Haram.

“The number one thing we bring is professional training” to help the Nigerian forces fight Boko Haram and to advise them how to treat insurgents and civilians captured in the war zone, said Issa, a Republican from California and member of the House Subcommittee on Terrorism. Nigeria’s military “doesn’t lack basic firearms … it lacks training” in military strategy and in international and humanitarian laws.

“This is a military that was allowed to fall into disrepair during the previous administration. Morale is low when training is low,” said Issa.

He said Obama’s pledge to give whatever training is needed signals “a new day” in U.S.-Nigeria relations. Buhari has pledged to annihilate Boko Haram and fight Nigeria’s serious corruption problem.
