A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Honourable Kazeem Ademola Alimi is dead.

The lawmaker who represented Eti Osa State Constituency 1 in the Assembly died on Tuesday July 18th 2017, two weeks after his 50th birthday after brief illness.

A statement by Musbau Razak, Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, confirmed that the late lawmaker died at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).

A two time lawmaker, Hon Alimi until his death, was the Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

He is survived by his wife and children.

Call in sick…and stay in bed
Don’t act like you haven’t called in sick for lesser reasons. Morning rain has a way of making you feel extra lazy, and life is too short not to listen to your body. If it says to stay in bed and sleep…you must obey! You really do not want to go into the office on a gloomy morning, neither are you in the mood to do any kind of mentally tasking work. Staying in your PJs all day, or reclining on the sofa while snuggling multiple beddings is the way to go. If you think about it, you wouldn’t really be lying… that feeling of laziness is actually you being work-sick.

Visit a Spa
Perhaps you are on leave, or you just happen to have the time on your hands on a rainy day and you want to escape the dreary weather. A good move would be to visit one of the luxurious spas around the city for full-body pampering. If you are lodged in a hotel like Eko Hotels & Suites, Four Points Sheraton or The Wheatbaker, you may not even need to go spa scouting as they have spa services on site. A good way to kill time indoors when it’s raining is by indulging in in a several-course menu at a nice restaurant. Nollywood and chill like a pro
Yes, you read it right. Nollywood, not Netflix. There are so many good Nollywood shows now: ‘Battle ground’ on African Magic, ‘On the Real’ on Ebony TV e.t.c Rather than pay to access Netflix, you can tune to the available channels on DSTV. Rainy days are not so great for internet TV options in Lagos, as most of the internet service providers get affected by weather.

Go shopping at any of the Lagos malls
If you love shopping, rainy days provide a perfect opportunity to make the most of the day, and the best place to do shop till the rain stops is any of the Lagos malls. Some of the most popular include The Ikeja City Mall, The Palms, Festival Mall and Mega Plaza. Alongside an array of items to buy, they provide a haven of food, film, and culture. They are ideal for shelter on a rainy day in Lagos.

Get a fix of culture
Rather than just sit in one spot and count sheep until the rain disappears, you may want to explore new ideas, learn about Nigerian cultures, natural history, art, music and even fashion. You can also view ancient and contemporary artwork. There are quite a number of museums, galleries, cultural and art centers in Lagos and no matter how boring these places sound, you are bound to be fascinated by one of them. Visiting them is a good way to spend a rainy day as you definitely gain more knowledge.

Cook something new / Hot and spicy
It is raining, the weather is gloomy and everywhere is wet and cold. Chances are you want to warm up your insides with a tongue-tingling dish like goat meat pepper soup or spicy cow foot. Rather than dress up and head out to a bukka or ordering in, you may want to cook it yourself. If you have never cooked the meal before it would be a whole new experience but if not, you would be indulging your taste palates in the fanciest way. Warrant Officer Enem Aniemeka of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has emerged the overall best graduating doctorate student at the Babcock University, Ilishan Remo, Ogun.

Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Olatokunbo Adesanya said Aniemeka was presented with award during the University’s graduation ceremony, on June 4.

According to Adesanya, Aniemeka graduated with the highest Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.67 to receive the award.

“Aniemeka defied all odds to enrol for the PhD Programme in Computer Science Networking telecommunication in 2012 having earlier bagged an MSc. in Information Technology from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).

“The title of his thesis was “Transmission Control Protocol’s Initial Congestion Window for Web Latency Reduction and Speedy Flows.

“The research work was able to propose solution to the problem of short lived connections in Internet network in Nigeria,” he said.

This, Adesanya said would potentially enable internet users in Nigeria to have better service by improving page loading time.

He said NAF placed a lot of premium on the educational development of its personnel, as reflected in the vision of the Chief of the Air Staff, CAS, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar.

Adesanya explained that such feat could be achieved through one of the vision key drivers of CAS, which was Human Capacity Development through robust and result oriented training for enhanced professional performance.

“Accordingly, NAF regularly releases its personnel to undertake relevant academic programmes in civil institutions.

“Aniemeka, who is one of the beneficiaries of NAF school release programme, is currently the Supervisor of the Computer Centre at 051 Personnel Management Centre at NAF Base in Ikeja, Lagos State.

About N3. 7 billion has been released for the feeding of 1, 287, 270 pupils in nine states and over 14,500 cooks hired under the HomeGrown School Feeding Programme , a Social Investment Programme of the Buhari presidency.

The benefiting states are Anambra, Enugu, Oyo, Osun, Ogun, Ebonyi, Zamfara, Delta and Abia.

So far, Anambra has received N693 million and Enugu, N419million.

Oyo State has collected N414million, Ogun N880million, Osun N767million and Ebonyi N344million.

Zamfara had received N188million, Delta, N63million and Abia, N42million. The three states are late joiners of the feeding programme, which government hopes to extend to 3 million pupils soon.

The money is paid directly from the FG’s coffers to the cooks, with a slight variation in Osun State where some of the food items like eggs are bought centrally by an aggregator.

Laolu Akande, a spokesman for the Acting President said the nine states have hired 14, 574 cooks in the communities were the schools are located.

Anambra hired 1,009 cooks, Enugu 1,276 and Oyo 1,372 cooks. Osun has 2, 863 cooks, Ogun 2, 205 and Ebonyi 1, 453 cooks.

In Zamfara state 2,738 cooks were engaged under the programme while Delta hired 908 cooks and Abia 750.

The Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA), has dismissed the alleged planned increase of N5.00 on the pump price of fuel.
This was contained in the statement issued Tuesday in Abuja by the Executive Secretary, Abdukadir Saidu.
The statement read: “PPPRA has observed the growing speculation on a purported imminent increase in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) by N5.00 per litre.

“The Agency hereby wishes to dispel this rumour and assuage the concerns of Nigerians.
“As the agency of government saddled with the responsibility of regulating petroleum products pricing, supply and distribution, we want to assure the Nigerian public that the subsisting pump price cap for PMS remains N145 per litre, across the country and as such, Nigerians should please ignore the speculation on price increase.

“We again wish to assure all Nigerians that pursuant to its mandate, the PPPRA shall not fail in its efforts geared towards ensuring products availability, and at regulated price, for the benefit of all.”

It would be recalled that the National Assembly was alleged of planning the fuel pump price with N5:00.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, on Tuesday night, said that President Muhammadu Buhari contested for president up to four times to care care of the youths

Adesina made the disclosure in Abuja on Tuesday when he received a Golden Leadership Award from the National Youths Advocacy for Good Governance Initiative at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He asked the youth to join other Nigerians in supporting the President in his effort to evolve a new Nigeria for the upcoming generation.



"One of the reasons President Buhari repeatedly contested for the position of the President of Nigeria was to see the country properly take care of young people. He strongly believes there should be a better country for the future generation.

"Tell your colleagues to team up with a government that envisages a better future for this country because Nigerians deserve a better future and that is what the President is aspiring to bequeath," Adesina said.

In his remarks, the National Coordinator of the Youth Group, Comrade Alabi Abiodun, while presenting the award, commended Adesina for his exemplary role and service to the nation.

The Federal University of Technology, Akure, announced on Tuesday that it would on Thursday launch a satellite into space in partnership with other local and international organisations and countries.

The university said the satellite belonged to Japan, Ghana, Mongolia, Nigeria and Bangladesh, and would be launched into Space from Kennedy Space Centre in Florida, USA.

One of the drivers of the popular Nigerian phone retail outlet, Slot Nigeria Limited, has been arrested by the operatives of Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command over the diversion of N5.95 million worth of laptops, mobile phones and its accessories, just as it assisted in the recovery of N4,654,224 worth of goods from the suspect.

The suspect, Olumide Babajide, 42, from Kwara State, was tracked and arrested in Kaduna State, where he diverted the goods to after taking them from the Slot Nigeria Office based in Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos

The driver, who was engaged in March, 2017, by the company, was directed to move the consignment to Slot Outlet in Victoria Island, Lagos in May 2, 2017, when the incident happened.

According to Olumide, a diploma in computer science holder, “I took the good from Slot’s outlet in Ikeja. I was to deliver it to another outlet in Victoria Island, Lagos, but instead I took the goods to Pam-Pam Hotel, Ikeja, while I returned the company’s Hilux car to R & S hotel, where we normally park the company’s vehicles.

This wasn’t the first time I would be moving laptops, mobile phones and their accessories from one outlet to the other. Since I joined the company in March and I was assigned the job of a delivery man, it had been my idea to divert the goods and abscond.”
He continued, “as soon as it was 5:00 p.m. that very day, I took a drop from the hotel with the consignment to Ejigbo, where I boarded a Kaduna bound bus.

Before I got to Kaduna, I already contacted one of the buyers. She bought N1.4 million worth of phones, laptops and phone accessories while I also sold in unit to some other buyers as well.”
Sources disclosed that the suspect at Kaduna dashed out about 10 mobiles to passers-by. He also gave out two phones to a new mistress while he bought a Peugeot 206, 1999 model with new registration number DKA 859 KA from the proceeds of his sales for N912, 000:00.

The father of three was also reported to have procured a 32 inch Samsung LCD for N62, 000:00 while lodging in a hotel abandoning his wife and children in the Kaduna.
